I love this bakery! I have been going there since I moved to Edmonton and they always have high quality and delicious products! In my last visit, I had to wait about 20 minutes in the line that shows how popular this bakery is. I went for a couple of items but they had so many amazing items that I could not resist and I ended up coming out with 15 items!!! The bakery looks like an old fashion bakery that gives it even more character! The baked goods are excellent here and you can tell by the lineups. It's a medium sized shop with a variety of higher end quality baked goods. Ambiance is cozy. Strictly take out. The sourdough bread is excellent. They have deluxe cinnamon buns with raisins, brownies with nuts, high end fruit cakes with nuts. I like nuts. Most coffee shops don't serve pastries with nuts. They have icing cakes. You have to take a number and wait. Staff were friendly. There is free parking. They also have canned good like sardines. Who knew! I stopped by this bakery recently to buy some dessert. They follow COVID protocols and have someone at the door to ensure the right amount of people enter the store. The bakery is fairly big and there were a wide variety of items to choose from. I ordered a piece of coffee cake and flourless orange cake. The coffee cake had a very strong coffee flavour and was creamy on the inside. The orange cake was soft and moist. Both tasted great and were not too sweet. I would love to try more of their deserts in the future. The bakery also decided to give me a free sampler of one of their bakery items which was a delightful surprise. Love the bread and the bagels, but one too many times in the last few years I have purchased rather lacklustre treats from Bon Ton. Still-frozen macarons, terrible hard and powdery meringues (they went in the bin they were so bad) and then the chococroissant I bought as a gift were burnt and unedible on the bottom. There is absolutely zero excuse for putting burnt product on the shelf in the first place, then to sell it to people and somehow not notice that the bottoms are scorched as you are bagging them? Yeesh. Stick to the breads and get your bakery treats elsewhere, we have many great bakeries in Edmonton where you can purchase really good quality treats. I've been burned too many times at Bon Ton to hazard it again. Perhaps quality is being replaced by volume, it's a busy wee place, although their service ticket system and increased staffing have gone a long way in dealing with the chaos of customers. read more

This bakery has everything and more, it is not small like most bakeries and sells sauces, jams, specialty salt, chocolate and tons of baked goods. I walked in and was overwhelmed by the amount of products you can purchase. It's located in a strip mall with lots of parking and has been here for the longest time. The cinnamon buns are delicious, cookies are sold in packages of 6 perfect for gift-giving, individually or by the dozen. Bread and buns are behind the counter, cold desserts such as tarts, cakes and cake slices are in the showcase and they all look fresh and yummy. The cakes can be made larger but you need to order at 7-10 days in advance. There were quite a few people shopping after work but there were lots of items so no need to fear of them running out! Lots of staff working too so service was very quick. Take your time to check everything out and you might buy more than you planned! read more

Patrons coming back weekly for the aromatic baked goods along with the bonus of friendly faces! Caramel eclair - $4.75 - - not the best eclair I've had. The coating on the top was really gooey and messy, rather than coating the actual pastry, it basically slipped off entirely once taking a bite. Also expected more filling inside the shell but was sadly disappointment with how sparse and empty it was after my first bite. Macarons - $1.95ea - 4/5 - Expectations for their macarons were a bit low to start with how mixed the reviews were. Thankfully I chose to try them for myself because damn, these were pretty good. Not top tier but definitely satisfied the craving. Flavor wise everything was pretty standard, the shells were so pretty and delicate though which made them that much more appealing. Red Velvet macaron is also to die for. Bon Ton is so close to home and I'm so glad I tried it out, finally. Yeah, I'll probably come back for more of their macarons, and I'm also dying to pick up some tarts and pies to try next time too! read more

Wow, this place is packed with delicious looking bread and baked treats! We stopped here on an random Saturday evening just before they were closing. My initial plan was just to get coffee here, but they had already shut down their machine unfortunately. After looking around for a bit, I decided I had to try a blackberry crostata and a carrot cake as they both looked super delicious. I also really like the ticket system that they use as it ensures everyone gets served when it gets busy. The carrot cake was absolutely amazing! It was not too sweet and has just the right amount of frosting. The blackberry crostata was incredible as well and the sweet and tart flavours were well balanced. There is always a line up whenever i drop by, even on weekdays. Also, their products do not last on the shelves so make sure to go there before noon for more options. When i went there once after 3pm, only a few items left. If you wanted to ensure on getting a specific item, order online for pick up the next day. In addition, all the staff were very accommodating and friendly and won't rush you on ordering. Memories of Bon Ton include my dad getting pastries here for an occasional treat and they looked and tasted delicious. Fast forward more than 20 years and I find myself in the bakery on a Saturday morning. It's a bustle of activity with close to 20 people inside. They have a ticket system which is easy and not chaotic. While waiting for my number to be called, I wandered the store. There were samples including bread with oils and hummus, and a few different sweet treats to choose from. It was only a few minutes and my number was called. The line moved quickly with about 4-5 people assisting customers. I ordered a few mini cinnamon buns (75 cents each), and a pretzel ($1.25), and bought a bag of the 600g granola ($10.95). There was more savoury and sweet treats (cakes, and flans if you are looking for dessert for an occasion) but I will save those for my next visit. It's wonderful this bakery is still operating and so busy! I can create my own Bon Ton memories now! read more

An amazing bakery full of a large variety of baked goods. We went on a Saturday and it was quite busy but the staff were very friendly. We purchased 4 slices of cake and some macarons.The raspberry passion slice was described as "the best piece of cake I have ever had in Canada" by my daughter. The mille feuille was amazing as well. The macarons were also very good, the pistachio one I tried was perfect. We will definitely be back in the future to try out some of there other backed goods. This is the "destination bakery" in Edmonton. There used to be another destination bakery in Old Strathcona but it closed years ago. Bon Ton is big, and they have a lot of bread types plus others that are only made on certain days. I think that they even sell white bread from the bottom shelf but why go to a bakery for white bread? There are long rows of pastries under the counter and recently they started a sandwich bar but there are no tables here. I haven't tried the sandwich bar yet. You must take a number from the ticket dispenser upon arriving but even then it's usually quite busy so you'll have to wait a bit to be served. I've brought breads and pastries here for years and have always been satisfied with the product. It's certainly not the cheapest place in the city but for sheer variety Bon Ton has no equal. There is parking and it's usually busy and yet I've always found a spot near the bakery. Service is helpful and polite. Depending on your tastes you may find a better product elsewhere but, more likely than not, Bon Ton's breads are as good as the best Edmonton has to offer. I can honestly say that after coming here for years I am sure that I've never been the only customer in the store. That says a lot about their product. read more

I love the sausage rolls that Bon Ton makes. A friend recommended them several years ago and I've never forgotten. Sadly I didn't see any today. It's really neat that if you look at the door handles, they're rolling pins! I really enjoyed the fresh bakery smell - today was cinnamon. It's usually somewhat busy due to their awesome reputation. I purchased chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies and a pumpkin pie. The cookies were rock hard and tasteless. Too much cheap filler. Bon Ton is a classic! I grew up eating Bon Ton and make it back most times I come back home. It was always a good Saturday to wake up and someone had already brought raspberry turnovers back. It's still going strong. The croissants are above average and the danishes are good (especially cheese, and poppy) although they could have a crisper crust. The bread is good too, especially the cheese bread, although nothing terribly special. Try to grab the end piece if you get the cinnamon bread. However, this time I tried the flourless chocolate truffle cake for my husband's birthday and it was definitely a hit.The flourless cake is a great option if you have someone in your party that may be celiac or wheat allergy, and it seems like they have some other gluten free treats as well! The almond sponge was not overly dry, as some gluten free desserts sometimes tend to be. The chocolate ganache was rich but not overly sweet.
