Spinach and artichoke dip. You can taste the goodness!

Always busy and therefore always fresh. Have you tried the new dips! They are awesome. The artichoke spinach dip is chock full of spinach and artichoke. Have tried all the hummus varieties and they are all winners.

I stopped by this bakery recently to buy some dessert. They follow COVID protocols and have someone at the door to ensure the right amount of people enter the store. The bakery is fairly big and there were a wide variety of items to choose from. I ordered a piece of coffee cake and flourless orange cake. The coffee cake had a very strong coffee flavour and was creamy on the inside. The orange cake was soft and moist. Both tasted great and were not too sweet. I would love to try more of their deserts in the future. The bakery also decided to give me a free sampler of one of their bakery items which was a delightful surprise. Overall my visit here was quite pleasant and service was friendly!

Stand Back!!! Flavour explosions happen here regularly. Everything here is so good and you can find most of your favourites. If you want to impress guests this holiday season just do what I do order what you want to serve and replate to take credit for it. In the end I did come clean and let them know about this hidden gem!

Reg cheese bagels, mini sesame bagels, meringues & heritage rye bread

Love the bread and the bagels, but one too many times in the last few years I have purchased rather lacklustre treats from Bon Ton. Still-frozen macarons, terrible hard and powdery meringues (they went in the bin they were so bad) and then the chococroissant I bought as a gift were burnt and unedible on the bottom. There is absolutely zero excuse for putting burnt product on the shelf in the first place, then to sell it to people and somehow not notice that the bottoms are scorched as you are bagging them? Yeesh. Stick to the breads and get your bakery treats elsewhere, we have many great bakeries in Edmonton where you can purchase really good quality treats. I've been burned too many times at Bon Ton to hazard it again. Perhaps quality is being replaced by volume, it's a busy wee place, although their service ticket system and increased staffing have gone a long way in dealing with the chaos of customers.

This bakery has everything and more, it is not small like most bakeries and sells sauces, jams, specialty salt, chocolate and tons of baked goods. I walked in and was overwhelmed by the amount of products you can purchase. It's located in a strip mall with lots of parking and has been here for the longest time. The cinnamon buns are delicious, cookies are sold in packages of 6 perfect for gift-giving, individually or by the dozen. Bread and buns are behind the counter, cold desserts such as tarts, cakes and cake slices are in the showcase and they all look fresh and yummy. The cakes can be made larger but you need to order at 7-10 days in advance. There were quite a few people shopping after work but there were lots of items so no need to fear of them running out! Lots of staff working too so service was very quick. Take your time to check everything out and you might buy more than you planned!

Black forest cake for our office Christmas lunch
    Maya D.

Our office loves their cakes- the carrot cake and the black forest cake are two of our favourites and they are to die for. They are loaded with fresh ingredients in generous amounts. They are using cream cheese and butter, and less sugar so you can enjoy a full piece after lunch guilt free especially with Christmas around the corner. Great bakery and accommodating staff.

The sense of community revolving Bon Ton is astounding. The relationship this little bakery has with the locals show to hold strong and genuine. Patrons coming back weekly for the aromatic baked goods along with the bonus of friendly faces! Caramel eclair - $4.75 - - not the best eclair I've had. The coating on the top was really gooey and messy, rather than coating the actual pastry, it basically slipped off entirely once taking a bite. Also expected more filling inside the shell but was sadly disappointment with how sparse and empty it was after my first bite. Macarons - $1.95ea - 4/5 - Expectations for their macarons were a bit low to start with how mixed the reviews were. Thankfully I chose to try them for myself because damn, these were pretty good. Not top tier but definitely satisfied the craving. Flavor wise everything was pretty standard, the shells were so pretty and delicate though which made them that much more appealing. Red Velvet macaron is also to die for. Bon Ton is so close to home and I'm so glad I tried it out, finally. Yeah, I'll probably come back for more of their macarons, and I'm also dying to pick up some tarts and pies to try next time too!

Wow, this place is packed with delicious looking bread and baked treats! We stopped here on an random Saturday evening just before they were closing. My initial plan was just to get coffee here, but they had already shut down their machine unfortunately. After looking around for a bit, I decided I had to try a blackberry crostata and a carrot cake as they both looked super delicious. I also really like the ticket system that they use as it ensures everyone gets served when it gets busy. The carrot cake was absolutely amazing! It was not too sweet and has just the right amount of frosting. The blackberry crostata was incredible as well and the sweet and tart flavours were well balanced. I wish now that I had bought some macarons and some sourdough bread as well! Oh well, I'll just have to go back :)

Best lil' Bakery this side of the city. West end delights !! BonTon added a Sandwich & Coffee Bar last year. This was a welcome addition to those of us looking to grab our weekly treats & a fan-freaking tastic speciality drink in one stop. You'll be given a tasty little cookie with each coffee purchase. I've been shopping here bi-weekly for 12 years. TIP: Order your Paska in time for Easter / other seasonal favourites available as the seasons change. TIP: TAKE A NUMBER TIP: PIES LIKE SASKATOON BERRY are seasonal & in high demand. They are also my favourite hostess gift! The fruit combinations are so good! I also love their classic oatmeal raisin monster cookies & shortbread (available all season) in-fact, i purchase a few hostess / other gifts here every few months. Artisanal, home made style jelly, jams, preserves, sauces & so so much more. It's a great place to come browse, shop, nibble samples! BonTon supports local. Stocking items from our city friends like Pinocchio ice cream.

Also, it gives highlight to an delicious food scene, which otherwise can be overlooked because of the area of town that Chinatown is located in. I really believe in the area, and even if it is not Chinatown Dining Week, I still go there often because the food is amazing (at numerous places on 96th street), and the families who have food establishments are really friendly, and care about they do. The staff here are friendly and care about what they do, (as all of the other locations on the street), but english is not their first language, so be patient! The women here running the bakery were fantastic, but we needed to do some charades to get what we wanted. Our fruit cocktail cake was only 20 bucks (for downtown dining week, it is slightly higher regularly), which is cheaper than many Costco cakes. It was so delicious. Light and fluffy, full of fruit and delectable whipped cream. I am not a super sweet fan, but I had three pieces of cake the first night. So lovely. They also have a tonne of other baked goods that are worth checking out. You should. Check out Chinatown. Check out the food. And check out the people that are in this resilient community.

I don't think I have had something here that I didn't think was ok to good. My issue the last time was that they add the prices in their head and didn't issue a receipt. They usually use a calculator but I don't recall if they ever give a receipt from the til. This time they didn't use and charged almost $30 for baked goods, which I think was a few dollars off. My suggestion is if you go, add up the items beforehand or ask for a receipt to ensure the price charged is what it should be.

It's the first time I went there, as we usually go somewhere else like Hotel Macdonald, and I can tell you right off the bat that the one offered by The Art of Cake is much MUCH better! Their shabby chic decor is absolutely adorable and tasteful! The tables were decently spaced and lighting warm and bright. The staff were also super sweet when chatting and checking in on us during the course of our tea party. The menu was mouthwatering. Other tea parties, while sticking to bite sized portions, also stuck with scant fillings/toppings and little variety that always left me feeling like I should go for a burger run after. The Art of Cake's was not only as generous as they can be with the fillings in the bite sized portions, they were also varied and left my palette (and stomach) leaving well satisfied. Their plating and food presentation was fantastic and pleasing to the eye. It left me feeling reluctant to bite into some of the pieces because they were too cute and perfect! Would definitely recommend, and would go again!

I didn't quite know what to expect walking in, if it was more of a takeout bakery style or a sit down and enjoy sandwich and chicken eatery? Well, we got to try it out and 100% more of a take out shop than anything else. Similar setup to Handy with breads and desserts displayed on the center glass counter display with a few shelves on the side acting as a mini market, the backboard had a few food food items but nothing special. The space is roomier with plenty of seating, but with a feeling of more of a concrete room as opposed to being more welcoming as Handy. We left with a few Portuguese tarts and they were cold? She didn't offer to warm them up or anything either, so my cold tarts were pretty disappointing. Though the filling did taste really good. Maybe we need to visit again on a busier peak time for some better service? Not in a rush to try this place again though.

Popular Bakery is many things - including living up to its name. It is a bakery, grocery store,…read moresandwich shop, cafe, and hang out, all in one. Located on Alberta Avenue, Popular Bakery fits well into the multicultural atmosphere of the area as a Portuguese bakery and restaurant. One of the few places where one can sit with a cup of coffee and enjoy conversation with friends (except when community coffeehouse The Carrot is open), Portuguese Bakery sells fresh baked goods, sandwiches made to order, and a few hot entree items such as Portuguese flame-grilled chicken and pork. A cooler contains a variety of beverages, both domestic and imported from Portugal, and there are a few short aisles of groceries, again, mostly Portuguese. Despite being large and spacious, tables are precious few. I can imagine this place getting very full at lunch time, and doing a mostly take-out business. I was there around four in the afternoon, and the tables were around half full, mostly with older Portuguese men and women sitting around enjoying coffee and pastries, speaking in their mother tongue. My server was Portuguese, and I really felt like I had stepped into another culture - which is exactly what I want when I am visiting an ethnic establishment. I ordered a quarter chicken meal with french fries (my other choice was rice) and a salad (which comes with the meal). I was asked if I wanted my food served regular or spicy and I opted for regular. My food was brought out to me a few minutes later, and consisted of a large plate almost overflowing with chicken, fries, and salad. The salad was a mix of vegetables in a light, almost Italian style vinagrette with a bit of a salty kick to it. The fries were average, but crispy. I thought perhaps they might make their own here, but I was wrong. The chicken, however, was the star of the show. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, the meat was infused with a tangy season mix in oil, accented with salt and garlic. The grilled flavour of the chicken came through as well. Instead of giving me an entire dark or white quarter, I had a wing, a chunk of thigh, and two chunks of white meat. I enjoyed the variety, and it also made the meal easier to eat. For dessert, I decided to try one of the many tempting treats in the bakery's showcase. An egg tart is a standard Portuguese favourite of mine and they were here, but looked rather burned. Some of the other items, such as danishes, eclairs, and other pastries looked delicious, but a bit too much to follow the meal I had. I opted for what looked like a smaller dessert - a slice of caramel pudding. As soon as my server handed me the plate, I thought my arm would drop. It was heavy for such a small slice! I also had a cup of coffee to accompany my dessert and keep me occupied as I finished reading a book. The pudding reminded me of the filling of an egg tart, very firm in texture. The caramel part was probably the light syrup at the bottom of the slice, which tasted more like a lightly burned sugar than caramel. It was good, though, and it took me a while to fork my way through it. The big disappointment of the afternoon was the coffee. It was very, very average. However, it was also inexpensive. The price for a meal is in the $7-$10 range. The sandwiches are on fresh bread or rolls and include a variety of meats. There is also soup. I plan to come here again to have more chicken and try the rice. Portuguese Bakery closes daily at 6:00 p.m. and is closed on Sundays.
