Back for a third time, you'd think we liked this place. Proximity is nice, but for us the place has to perform and Homefire did it again. Rudy was as once again our server and he knocked it out of the park again. The bison meatloaf with mashed potatoes was excellent as was the salad that we also shared. Thankfully the Christmas decor is gone, but Valentine's Day is in full bloom lol. We were in the west end around supper time. We decided to give this another go. It was very busy there for a Monday. The staff was friendly and fairly prompt considering how busy it was. The ambiance is nice and warm. Lots of selections, you can find something for everyone. There is an emphasis on wild game which is something unique. We all decided on pizza. For kiddo Country Ham and Pineapple -black forest ham, smoked bacon, fresh pineapple . For hubby The Carnivore - pepperoni, salami, ham, ground elk and for me MeatHead Bison Sausage- white sauce, bison sausage, peppers, onions, goat cheese, chili oil. It took awhile for the food to come out slowly. But we enjoyed it once it came. Decent size, and good amount of toppings. Nice crust. I could have used more chili oil to cut the richness of the white sauce but they were so busy, it was hard to find someone to give us our bill. In general a pleasant evening. read more

Ate here while on a stopover for business in Edmonton. I unique burger restaurant bar because they also serve Bison burgers. I ordered a seafood chowder soup (soup of the day, sorry no photo) and a Bison Burger for the main course. The Bison burger was a huge portion and very tasty, accompanied by French fries, ketchup and a special dipping sauce. Heard about this place friends that live in Calgary, so we trekked from downtown to try it... and OMG it didn't disappoint one bit! When you walk in you'll see fire places, art and everything tranquilly decorated! I felt transported to a quieter and peaceful state of mind immediately. The food is a Post Modern meets Great Plains days type of fusion with an uptown spin! You will love every bite! I hadn't had Bannock in awhile and this was a cute and healthy version of indigenous Bannock! Everyone loved their dish! The soup was not salty and very flavorful! The elk lasagna was very filling! We came to the Homefire Grill for a large work Christmas lunch. It was my first time here and I was really surprised but pretty much everything! Our server was very attentive, friendly and everything came out in perfect timing. The restaurant has a really cozy feel with a large fireplace. It reminded me of The Keg. We tried the fresh Bannock and Bison Spring Rolls. For the main, I tried the Bison Stew. Everything exceeded my expectations! We couldn't get enough of the bannock with the whipped maple butter and the bison spring rolls were innovative and tasty! The Bison Stew was rich and tender. I was pretty impressed with the Homefire Grill. This cozy restaurant had excellent service. We were there with a bigger group and the waiter was oh so patient as we decided what to order. The Bannok was delicious and warm when it was brought to our table in a basket with whipped butter. And while none of got the steak special that evening it sounded delicious. Instead, I opted for the Elk Lasagne and others for the Bison Meatloaf or Sausage Rose to try some of the more unique dishes on the menu. They were all amazing. I am not really a huge fan of elk meat but I would definitely order it again! The drinks were OK - the strawberry daiquiri ordered by friend was only 1oz in a huge glass of mix so it was like drinking strawberry puree. But the white sangria and the old-fashioned that I had were pretty good. Free parking right out front and they take reservations - even on a Friday night - so that's a win right there! read more

We visited Homefire Grill for the first time this holiday season for a work dinner. Immediately the restaurant gives cozy warm vibes. The menu is a little wild - literally. Lots of Elk and Bison on the menu so if that isn't your style this might not be the restaurant for you but there's lots of other choices too. Our waiter was great and attentive. Staff were standing chatting nearly the entire time. Waiter was very friendly and chatty. He was great at checking in and never let our water reach 50%. Bathroom has many stalls and was clean. Tried the Bannack starter (1 slice). Good portion for price ($2.50). Very soft bread, must be baked as not greasy or fried taste at all. Whipped butter was very smooth and creamy. Very very light maple taste. I got the Indian Summer Salad: Chicken breast sliced on top was fine. Good portion, not too dry. Loved the variety of vegetables and kinds of lettuce used. Would have loved to see more beans and corn. Avocado dressing was great as not too strong. Overall not sure it was worth $21. Boyfriend got the Chicken Cordon Bleu. Was just a well cooked chicken breast with a slice of ham on top with cheese and bread crumbs on the ham (nothing on the chicken). Mushroom gravy was great. Alfredo rigatoni was 10/10 delicious. Cooked vegetables on the side were 10/10 - well seasoned, well cooked, loved the variety. My gluten-sensitive friend got the Bison meatloaf as it was confirmed gluten free (as was the saskatoon sauce). The gravy for the side mashed potatoes is not gluten-free so she opted for yam fries. Yam fries were 10/10 - well cooked and seasoned. Cooked vegetables on the side were 10/10 - loved the variety. She said the meatloaf was 9/10 delicious. Too full for dessert this time but glad to see there are smaller portion desserts available. Overall great atmosphere, great staff, good food. Quite pricey but the portions are quite large. First of all we had exceptional service. Perfectly executed! The bannock and maple butter was delicious. My son had the bison burger with fries and loved everything. I had the steak sandwich. It was well done when I asked for medium and it was dry. The mashed potatoes were ok and the gravy was really tasty. The garlic toast under the steak was the bottom of a grocery store hoagie bun that wasn't toasted and had no butter or garlic. Weird. The side veggies were decent. I enjoyed my meal but it would have been better if my steak was done properly. Our friend's Elk Lasagna looked amazing and tasted great. Well done. They have local craft beer and the wine list is decent. The atmosphere is nice. Love that the kitchen is open. read more

Nice venue with super cute accoutrements like lampshades, door handles & wall art. For an above average price, however, the food is only average at best. I came here with a large group, which was accommodated in a large side room which sadly is not as cozy as the main dining room. I kept sneaking out for peeks at the fireplace. The food reviews from our group were consistently average, especially for the price. An example is $27 for elk lasagna which I found unimpressive, the taste of the ground elk was lost in a heavy layer of ricotta and mozzarella. Many people in our group had the special, seafood with linguini in a marinara sauce. While generous in portion, I heard repeatedly that the mussels were overcooked, and overall the dish was not well received. The bannock was quite similar in texture and size to focaccia - a different take to be sure but it seemed lacking in flavour, a plain carb side. The bison spring rolls were not bad, but not as flavourful as I would have liked. I love that bison and elk are on the menu, but the flavour gets lost a bit in my opinion. I found the dishes a bit heavy and maybe traditional Western, lacking that twist I was hoping for. I don't think I'd go out of my way to come back here at $20+ per entree, but I'd give it another try if invited out here again. read more

Went for a book club meet and eat. We thought of this place because it is known to serve game. Aboriginal inspired dishes and and using local resources, the restaurant focuses on dishes from land and sea cooked in open concept kitchen. Home like feel with fireplace in the Centre lots of local artwork gives it an intimate dining feel. I tried the bison stew and sides included fries and grilled veggies. Unfortunately my stew was small and cold and my veggies were not cooked. Others who ordered the burgers were satisfied with their meals having large portions. Service was ok. Came here for dinner on Boxing Day. Our family of 4 were seated by the center fireplace. Really nice interior. Our waiter was super friendly. My daughter and I ordered the bison burger. It was excellent. My wife had the Irish stew. She liked it but the top pastry was burnt. My son had mac and cheese and he gobbled it up. Great atmosphere. Nice to sit by fireplace. Nice and quiet. We have been to this restaurant many times before and always had a pleasant experience. However, on Saturday I made an online restervation to celebrate our anniversary. We received a confirmation via text.. We arrived 15 minutes before our scheduled time, only to find out on Saturdays our reservation would not be guaranteed and we would have to wait at least an hour. Keep in mind that we are from out of town and made the reservation to be able to confirm there was room. No where did it say that resrvations are not guaranteed. Needless to say this was totally disappointing. We tried to get in several other places to no avail. We ended up going back to out to our hometown and didn't eat until after 8 pm, plus the wasted gas to drive to Edmonton and check out other restaurants, when our scheduled time was 6:30. This ruined our anniversary celebration night out. Get your act together. If you can't guarantee a reservation made online, then take it off your website or have a disclaimer.We have used open table at many establishments and have never had an issue. Let's just start with the service. Our server Brett was fantastic, very attentive and funny. To be fair it wasn't insanely busy so he had the time but he was a great server, and our interactions with the other servers were positive as well. I ordered the Bison Burger, with a side of cooked vegetables and coleslaw. The burger was well cooked , and it came with a Saskatoon relish, I personally asked for a little extra on the side because it came a little light for the serving. The relish was absolutely the star of the show, although I don't know if I need it again. It definitely was a fun addition and I appreciate places that try things a little different but it was a little too much on the sweet side. The only downside to the burger was the lack of other sauce since bison is inherently a little bit more lean, so another sauce to accompany the Saskatoon relish would be amazing. Homefire Grill is tucked away behind a hotel, next to a major road. Parking is available all around this place. Edmonton has way too much land. the interior is casual and relaxed for sure but they do make it feel a bit "homey" in a "rustic cabin in the mountains" kind of way. It looks like someone's living room if you use a bit of your imagination. As the name suggests, there actually is a nice decorative fireplace (with flames) in the middle of the restaurant, making the place just a bit cozier. The server was quite friendly and professional, and was able to answer all of our questions. Special items that seemed rather unique were the elk lasagna and bison steak. Poor little guys. Honey garlic ribs - actually one of the better ones out there. The sauce actually tasted like real honey, without overwhelming the wings. 8oz sirloin steak - the meat was quite tasty, without too much fat. The potatoes were actually pretty good, but weren't mashed too well. I had to do a once-over with my fork. The vegetables were a bit curious. There was a piece of bok choy (the Chinese vegetable) as the centrepiece, which raised an eyebrow. But they were satisfactory. Overall it was pretty tasty, and the comfort factor was there. Leading up to my 40th birthday, it became increasingly difficult to find a place to have a nice meal. Thanks god for the Homefire Grill. They had the place sanitized and sat the limited crowd at least 10-12 feet away from one another. The place is a bit of a throw back from a decor standpoint but has a gorgeous fireplace positioned in the middle of the dining room. The cuisine is largely based on indigenous dishes with a fine dining twist. Lots of wild game dishes, steaks, and home style classics. Small but decent wine list and cocktail menu but honestly we were just happy to find a place to eat. We started with the bannock and if you find yourself in this place, you absolutely must order it. Just light fluffy pillows are warmth and comfort. They come with this whipped maple butter that almost gives it a mild French toast flavour. Just wonderful... Main courses were very solid also. I had the back ribs with roasted veg and mash. Veg was a little raw but tasty and the ribs weren't really anything special but I did enjoy them nonetheless. My gf had this wicked salmon bowl with Asian vegetables and all covered in a fantastic sesame glaze. She was more than impressed to say the least. Finished the meal off with a decadent molten lava cake kinda thing topped with homemade vanilla ice cream. Awesome and a perfect was to end the dinner, along with a belt of scotch. Happy Birthday to me! Our server was just a gem, he did the job as best as he possibly could under less than ideal social distancing circumstances. He was knowledgeable and chatty without over doing it, all while keeping an acceptable distance from the table when at all possible. Thank you good sir! We were in town for 3 nights. We went to this place 2 nights in a row because we loved it so much. The 4 meals we had were the House Special pizza, Bison Stew, Salmon Greek Salad (Salad was delicious, not overdressed nor blanketed by feta) and Salmon Bowl. Can't say anything bad about any of them. Both times the salmon was cooked to perfection. Seriously! Pizza was great. Stew was full of meat, delicious and came with mashed potatoes on the side to dip in. Specialty bread that accompanied was unbelievably soft and served with maple butter (!). Side vegetables are fantastic. Fresh and cooked perfectly. Hats off to the kitchen. First night we sat at the bar. Food was good but there is no "bartender". Second night we ate in actual dining area. Samantha made our experience special. Husband and I both had the turkey dinner special ...butter squash soup (delicious), complete turkey dinner with an assortment of vegetables that were perfectly cooked (not mush as is so often the case), and a very good pumpkin pie for dessert. My coworkers mentioned this place, so my wife and I decided to check it out last night. I ordered one of the house specialties- Bison Meatloaf. My wife ordered the Seafood Mornay. We also got a basket of bannock bread. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The bannock bread was extremely good. We ate the whole thing. The entrees, however... The meatloaf was dry and a bit overcooked. The saskatoon berry barbecue sauce was tasteless and didn't help the meat at all. Even the mashed potatoes were bland and dry- they desperately needed some butter or cream. My wife's seafood mornay was decent, if also bland. The mornay sauce was supposed to be cheesy, but it seemed to be just a cream sauce. We both got the side vegetables, which weren't bad... except for the brussels sprouts, which were too bitter to eat. We were very disappointed, and won't be back. read more

The food was amazing from the starting bannock, through the delicious meals, and finishing with a trio of desserts. If your hungry, worry not. The portions here are hefty. My family had a great meal here! I was looking for somewhere to take an American visitor for a Thanksgiving meal and suddenly remembered Homefire Grill. I had been there once years before and remembered a lot of great things on the menu, such as Bannock, Elk and Bison. So I made the reservation about a month in advance. That was a mistake, because it changed a few times before the date actually arrived. The manager I was dealing with was very accommodating though. Even the day of the reservation, we had to call them to add 2 more guests on. Then, by the time we actually arrived, We were down by 3 (yay for constantly changing plans!). They didn't get annoyed or frustrated with us. They just went with the flow. Service was fantastic. The server made great suggestions and she took our 6 person order (with lots of modifications) without writing anything down - and it all came out quickly and correctly! I ordered the Chicken Forestiere, which was delicious, but the gruyere cheese was very light and I didn't even taste it. The potatoes and veggies were also delicious and they accommodated my mom's zucchini allergy very well. I do wish they had better Elk options though. Elk is my favourite and it seems wasted in a lasagna or tortellini dish. And Elk steak would have gone over really well at my table. Though, if you're new to Elk, I suppose this would be a good way to experience it. Overall, I think this is a great place to bring visitors from out of town. Though, I will say that the bannock didn't seem overly authentic (more like a biscuit), and the maple butter was just butter. read more

My fiance and I came to Homefire Grill because it is a top rated local restaurant that we haven't tried before. We really liked the decor on the door handles and the overall atmosphere around the restaurant. Our server Casy provided us with very quick and friendly service. I opted for a Caesar, and my husband had a coffee. Both of our beverages were tasty. The special was a 6oz steak, with creole sauce, mashed potatoes and vegetables. Sounded great! Husband and I each ordered it, plus spinach artichoke dip to start. The dip came out, with triangles of flatbread. The dip itself was warm, and not mouth-destroying hot like some other places I've been to. It was seasoned well, and absolutely delicious. Was a fine choice as a starter for our meal. Out came the steaks. Everything looked beautiful and we couldn't wait to take our first bites. The vegetables were done perfectly (squash, zucchini, and broccolini) the mashed potatoes were velvety smooth, and the steak was on point. I asked for rare, husband asked for medium rare, and they were both perfectly cooked. The steaks were tender, juicy, and melt in your mouth. Soooo delicious! After our meal, that we raved about to the server, we were offered a dessert menu, to which we declined. Oh so full! I would have liked to see what was on it though. Went to the home fire grill for lunch and ordered the rotisserie chicken with in-house herb rub, mashed potatoes and vegetables. Chicken was well spiced and tender, however was a little on the cold side. Gravy was excellent and the vegetables were nicely seasoned too. The coffee was sub-par in taste and a little on the cold side too. Nice service and warm inviting atmosphere. Excellent selection of meat dishes such as a bison and Elk. I was not wowed by my experience; just content. I think I would like to give this place another chance, and try one of their more unique dishes. read more
