This review is mainly for what I consider the star of Upper Crust bakery... their AMAZING cinnamon rolls (and this is coming from someone who is not even a fan of cinnamon rolls) Honestly my favorite go to item on their menu. It isn't like a traditional cinnamon roll. These a crispy in some areas, soft in others and have many layers of sweet and caramel hints. Simply magnificent. 5/5 Pro tip... order the cinnamon rolls online ahead of time, I've been there a few times when they completely ran out. On my last visit there, I also ventured outside of the cinnamon rolls and tried their sausage rolls and spinach/mushroom quiche. While the sausage rolls were pretty tasty with a substantial sausage on the center, they probably taste even better fresh out of the oven. The quiche in my opinion was bland and didn't have enough salt for my tastes. Overall, Upper Crust Bakery is a must try. Especially their cinnamon rolls, you won't be disappointed! read more

Coming from the Northeast where bakeries and bagels dominate, I guess you could say I'm a stickler for this kind of stuff. Walked with my wife over to Upper Crust and it was worth it! Nice old school bakery vibe that felt like home. Please was buzzing with ample tables to sit down and eat. It was honestly sooo good and I probably will go back tomorrow for another one. Its moist, chewy, but also crunchy on the outside and perfectly balanced with cinnamon - UGH so good. Their cheese danish was also pretty good but just not as good compared to the cinnamon roll. Same with the red velvet cupcake. Both really good but the cinnamon roll was my favorite! Parking here is kinda difficult as its located at a busy intersection, but its worth struggling to park for those cinnamon rolls. TLDR: Excellent all-around bakery, though beware of the parking situation! Upper Crust has excellent sandwiches, superb pastry, and friendly service. They do get busy in the mornings but the line moves and there's plenty of seating. Love their croissants and their strawberry/rhubarb tarts, too! Parking is limited and can be hazardous when pulling out if you're right in front of the shop. Be careful, this is a treat worth the risk! Post covid they have closed inside for customers, they have a window with a glass separations in between, you place order there and they bring your order out, they have couple of tables out though. There was a elderly person taking order and he had a bit of earring problem, so how much ever loud I was talking, he had a bit of a problem but he was a sweet, and he added couple of items which I dint ask for and charged god it. But as soon they bought out I noticed it. We ordered jalapeño cream cheese croissant, cinnamon rolls and brownie, but he had added elephant ears(2) and charged for it. So instead of elephant ear I asked either crossaint or cinnamon roll and told if there's a difference, I m happy to pay for it, but he was just nodding and gave cream cheese Danish and dry fruits Danish, I m keep on saying, we dint want those but he was not able to hear me properly then I gave up. Cinnamon rolls & jalapeño cream cheese croissant : 5stars Brownie: stars Dry fruits Danish: 1star, it was overly sweet. Cream cheese danish: 0 stars, cream cheese was so sour, had to spit it out, and dint eat it. I placed an order online and within 15 minutes my food and coffee were ready. Curbside pickup was super easy, too. I ordered a chai latte with soy milk, which came out just the way I like it, not too sweet. The cookies were good and chewy. The ham and cheese croissant was good, though not enough ham in my opinion. The blueberry muffin was good, too. Overall a great neighborhood bakery that has very reasonable prices. They are also known to have unique cinnamon rolls, so delicious and I don't usually like cinnamon rolls! I don't usually get the same thing at the places I visit, but I'll always get the ham and jalapeño quiche here because it's so tasty! The vibe is casual and has lots of natural lighting! There are clearly lots of regulars that go here. I recently tried the tortilla soup and goat cheese, apple, pecan salad. The salad was $6 and delicious!! I didn't love the soup, but I'm not a big soup gal, so that's on me. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend checking this place out. That being said I thought Upper Crust was a charming bakery that friendly staff and quick service. there is ample seating and you'll bus your own dishes and cup to a large bin. In terms of the cakes, I tried both the carrot and the italian cream cake. Cake was on the drier side and frosting was a little too sweet for me. Maybe they kept the cake drier to give it structure. I don't know. but the carrot cake which is usually a very moist cake didn't do it for me. Overall, I wish I liked it better. 2 stars I wish I liked it better. read more

I was in charge of my boss's retirement cake and I wanted to hit a home run so I chose Upper Crust. A home run it was not. When I called a couple weeks ago to place the order for the Gateau Marisa, I explained that she loves strawberry cake and as long as it doesn't have chocolate, it'll be perfect! I asked questions about prices (round vs rectangular) and ended up deciding on the latter since it would be easier to cut. No one bothered to tell me that the rectangular version only included FOUR strawberries (one in each corner). When we picked it up, disappointed was an understatement. My colleague that picked it up, sent me a picture and I called immediately and said it looks nothing like the picture. Only then was I informed that a full border of strawberries is on the round cake as doing it on the rectangular cake would "cost too much." Um, a pound of strawberries is a less than $5. How much money is Upper Crust really saving by not including a full border of strawberries? And if cost really is the issue as I was told by the guy that answered said, why not give your customers the option to pay for the full border? Or at the VERY least, have a disclosure on the description that a full border is on the round. We were displeased with the writing too, and they offered to redo it, but really, if the rest of the cake looked as plainly as it did, perfect handwriting wouldn't have made much of a difference. As far as taste, it was amazing. Would I order again from Upper Crust? Probably not for something special, but just something everyday, maybe. read more

I ordered an Italian Cream Cake online from this bakery. The website looked nice, and ordering was easy. I didn't get any kind of response to know if my cake order went through so I called them a few days before the cake was to be ready. Staff was incredibly nice and confirmed all the details of my order. I expected a professional bakery that looked professional. The restaurant gives off the "same management for 150 years" vibes. Two male staff members were pleasant, but my order wasn't quite ready at the appointed time (I ordered a full week in advance) so I had to wait. The place is anything but professional. It looks like they might have gone for a shabby chic X homeless look complete with tables with varnish peeled off and just a general dirty look. I will say that I got exactly what I ordered. An uninspiring little cake with words messily scrawled in red icing. For the price, I expected the icing on the cake to at least be professionally smoothed and not have bubbles in it. To be fair, the dessert cases did look quite immaculate, and the product was neatly displayed. Nothing special about any pastries contained therein. As the staff member went to the back, I was lucky enough to see part of the kitchen, and it did look clean. To me, it wasn't worth driving from Pflugerville all the way to Austin for this cake. My son is a professional chef, and it was for his birthday cake, but I could do better in my own kitchen. I think this place could improve its style and ask that employees don't wear t-shirts that look like they rested in the dirty laundry basket for a few days. Next year, I will bake the cake myself or order from a beautiful Wal-Mart or HEB dessert case. read more
