Robert is STELLAR!!! In a matter of a few weeks, he saved me (and my MacBook Pro) TWICE. Emergency situations, both, and he came through. There are other folks in the Bay Area who work on Apples, but Upgrade Repair's downtown Walnut Creek location and -- mostly -- Robert's EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE are stand-out. First: My "T" key started malfunctioning. Several other shops said, "You need to replace the computer." Not "replace the keyboard;" the entire laptop. Wow. One guy explained that Apple has riveted keyboards to the top of the laptop body, which makes it too much work (i.e., too expensive) to replace them. Robert knows better (I won't spoil his secret), and he fixed mine in a matter of days and for a small fraction of what a new computer would cost. Second: My logic controller died. Computer just blinked off. BLINK! "Not now!" I'm thinking. I've got taxes due to the IRS in a few days; all of my records are on the hard drive. Robert takes my diagnostic appointment that day & confirms the problem in minutes. In just a few days, he's got the part installed & tested, and I'm ready to go. Because he'd just replaced the keyboard, he wanted to waive his labor fee for fixing the controller. I wouldn't let him do that -- "Did I ask you to test or replace the controller when you had the back off? Did you break it? Should you have thought it was ready to fail?" -- but he still wouldn't let me carry the whole freight. Wow. Great guy! While I'm dealing with him, he's friendly, conversational, helpful, funny. I like him; he's the kind of guy I'd enjoy a beer with. He's got great signs in his office that support his philosophy that planned obsolescence is harmful all the way around -- to the manufacturer, the customer, the economy, the environment. Because of that, he's focused on the important things: doing a good job while providing excellent customer service at a fair price. Excellent repair service. Apple expert and excellent prices. Lots of integrity with the pricing - I needed both a hard drive and the screen replaced on my iMac. In order to replace the hard drive, one must remove the screen. Robert did not charge for the screen replacement labor as he had to remove and re-install anyway. Many of his competitors would have charged labor for this which is a ridiculous rip-off. read more

He pointed me to a place that offers affordable solid state drives that are faster than the drives that come with newer macbooks. He quickly diagnosed my problem, fixed it, installed a whole new operating system, got my wifi back on track and did some other little tune ups which has my old computer working like new.
