I came to eat dinner here 2 weeks ago and was very disappointed. We were seated under the air vent, and the heat was coming out right above our table on a very high mode. It was very hot inside the restaurant because two big large groups were dining at the same time. I asked our server if the heat could be turned off and he denied the heat was on. After asking the server to feel under the vent himself, he admitted the heat was blowing high and would talk to the manager. We were told they were having AC issues and were unable to turn the heat off. We asked if we could move tables because we had started to sweat at this point. They refused to allow us to move tables even though other tables were open and we'd only received water so far. The hostess was very rude and dismissive and refused to consider finding a solution. While that part of our experience was terrible, the food was not much better. I had the pasta, and it was so dry, I had to ask for extra sauce. The sauce didn't come to the table for another 15 minutes. Honestly wouldn't recommend this restaurant unless you are stopping by the bar to get a drink. I had this restaurant in my notes for about a year. I finally had the pleasure of trying. The service with our waitress was very slow and It was not a busy night. The food and cocktails made up for it. My original idea was to order the blackened catfish but the oven was broken. I went with the curry shrimp my second choice. It was soooo amazing. It was a great portion. I love good jamaican food. I ate everything on the plate. The bartender made some good strawberry lemon drops. I saw everyone in the restaurant ordering them. That damn French toast ... toooooo good! Perfectly cooked, perfect amount of sweet. The waffles I'd pass on next time. The chicken... bomb! Perfectly seasoned, fried crispy, but not hard. The Homefries are home fries.... Like the fried potatoes and onions your grandma used to make. Mine did! They were perfect! We needed NOTHING! No salt, no pepper, ketchup. I'm a ketchup girl but didn't need it at all, everything was cooked to perfection. Bottomless mimosas for $25 I believe!! I was skeptical about the mimosas because they were more on the yellow side inside of orange. I ordered anyway and so glad I did. 4 mimosas in 2 hours. I felt great!! I tasted a fork full of rice & peas only to find the peas were undercooked as they were super hard I send it back. Truly a gem in the city. The food here is worth writing about and the staff is really nice. This reminds me of a Lounge always great music playing and it isn't too loud. People sing along and in general everyone is always having a great time. The food is always really good and served hot. Amazing spot for brunch with friends and a go to for dinner. This is a nice chill spot where you can enjoy some great food. They have outside and indoor eating. Hookah for outside if that's your preference. Thursday night is R&B night with a DJ playing some great music. Started off with some honey old bay wings and crab dip and fries with a aioli dipping sauce. One of the best crab dips that I have had in MD. Main course was the Unity pasta. Comes with chopped up salmon with shrimp and a nice tomato cream sauce. Chefs kiss! Unity Bar is a cute spot right across from Mt Vernon Marketplace. My friend and I went for happy hour on a Wednesday night which could have why it was so chill. Either way, I enjoyed the vibe. The inside is quaint and a bit dark but otherwise pretty pleasant. We sat at a high top right across from the kitchen. Our server checked on us frequently and took good care of us. The menu is your typical bar menu, especially the happy hour options. Our food was hot and pretty tasty. No complaints there. I will say I would love to come back and try a few items from the menu. I caught a glance of the chef and I trust that she knows how to appropriately season food to perfection. I would also like to come back and check out the weekend crew. I would recommend for a spot to grab a drink and a quick bite with friends. Not super fancy but has the right idea for the mount Vernon neighborhood. They play decent music too. Stopped in Unity Bar and Restaurant for our Easter Brunch and really enjoyed ourselves. In trying to patronize businesses outside of DC proper, I was pleased with Unity overall and will definitely be back when I'm near Bmore again. We made a reservation the same day for a noon brunch time and I'm glad we did. Although the restaurant wasn't packed when we arrived it quickly filled up. The restaurant is fairly small but it gives a very intimate but elevated neighborhood bar vibe. There didn't seem to be a live DJ as advertised (unless I just didn't see them) but the playlist today seemed to be very Biggie heavy, and I'm not mad at that! Our waitress (I'm so bad with names) was so nice and attentive although having several tables to manage. The brunch menu is pretty limited to breakfast leaning dishes but there is something for everyone. I originally wanted to have a handheld egg sandwich listed on the menu but the waitress informed me that she didn't think the kitchen was making sandwiches anymore..weird since it's a menu offering but I opted for the chicken and waffles to keep it simple. I think I made a good choice! The chicken was fried HARD and seasoned really well. It came with 4 wingettes...I just wish they were either full wings or just more. Maybe a breast filet or thighs instead? I like to eat my chicken with my waffles, not separately ya know? So I found myself picking the chicken apart to have a bite with the waffle. Just my preference lol but still a really solid dish! I also wish my waffle was more Belgian style (crispier and golden brown on the outside, soft on the inside) but it was a fluffier waffle, still delicious. It came with fresh berries as well as a compote on the side. My husband ordered the catfish and grits which he really enjoyed. It's a small dish on its own so he ordered a side of eggs and potatoes to go with it. They have a full bar with just about every liquor imaginable in stock. Very impressive. The bottomless mimosas were on the expensive side ($35) IMO to be premade but they definitely hit! All in all it's a solid lowkey brunch spot. I'll be back! read more

I had the pleasure of checking out cozy & quaint Black owned & operated, Unity Bar and restaurant for a Sunday late lunch / early dinner. The inside had some high top tables and some very cute lounge style seats that were closely set, so I recommend making a reservation ahead and checking this place out for date night or perhaps a girls' brunch / girls' night out with 2-3 friends. They are best suited for smaller sized groups. There is street parking and an adjacent pay ahead parking lot. There was really good nineties and early 2000's hits the DJ was playing during my visit with a mix of some of our favorite oldies but goodies. Micah or Michael was the name of the young man that greeted us, took us to our table, and was our server. He was awesome and kept our drinks filled, our plates coming out piping hot, and our questions and concerns addressed with a smile. He went out of his way to make sure the games we wanted to watch were playing and I can't say enough good things about him, but on to the delicious stuff.... The food from Unity was all a hit. I tried the sweet and spicy shrimp appetizer that was perfection and just as described on the menu. I also enjoyed the honey old bay wings that were more honey than old bay, but delicious still. The shrimp fried rice was both perfectly cooked and seasoned and got devoured by our table. The curry shrimp entree was also amazingly flavored and cooked to perfection with a generous enough portion for us to have a little left over that was still delicious when reheated the next day. I don't eat oxtails but I heard they were also very good and the lamb chops and garlic mash did not disappoint. Unfortunately the lamb chops were waaaaaay overcooked BUT, I chalked that up to them being a little thinly sliced and on the bright side of things they remained juicy and tender and didn't lack in flavor which is often not the case for lamb when it's cooked very well done. Shout out to the bartenders that poured some delicious margaritas and strawberry Hennessys for our table. The prices here were comparable to DC's hot spot bar and lounge pricing, so you'll want to bring out your bigger purse or wallet to enjoy the good times and better food at Unity, but rest assured it'll be worth it. The bathrooms were clean and the surfaces weren't sticky which we also loved. read more

The ambiance of Unity is 10/10. They usually have a DJ and the vibes are just amazing a great place to go for a girls night out or grabbing a couple drinks at the bar and mingle! I will also say the drinks are pretty strong so you are bound to have a good time. As far as the food was concerned it unfortunately was very underwhelming. I made reservations for us to come a week in advance and we arrive to the restaurant yesterday 5 minutes before our reservation time which was Sunday, December 22nd at 3:55pm but our reservations were for 4pm. We were stoped at the front door telling us the kitchen is closed until 6pm. So why would they allow us to make a 4pm reservation. We were so looking forward to coming to this establishment and eating after seeing a few tik tok posts. So we had to now go find somewhere else to eat at. The website needs to be updated and the booking system also needs to be updated because if you close for a few hours due to the ending of brunch this needs to be said. It's a small restaurant so I'm not sure if I would recommend making reservations because it was a Saturday night and not really packed. It's straight forward when you walk in. The setting is dark but very classy. There was a dj but you could barely see him. The staff is really nice all greeted me when I walked in. I didn't order anything to drink other than water with lemons and limes. I wanted to try the fried rice with chicken and shrimp but I asked the waitress about the catfish and she convinced to try it. There was also crab and shrimp pasta, I was scared that would be too big so I just stuck with the catfish. It was actually really good! A little over seasoned but it balanced out the rice. The Cajun creamy sauce was topped perfectly. My date had the honey old bay wings with Mac n cheese. That Mac n cheese was so rich and cheesy!!!! However, I am not please with ordering a cocktail and asking for a double and my check is $45.00 including a service charge and tax. I don't mind spending money, but if I spend $45 on a drink, atleast ensure that it's a good STRONG one. I could have bought a bottle of tequila for $45. Please be advised, the service charge is included at this restaurant. When restaurants include the service charge, I don't leave an additional gratuity. I will probably give Unity another try but only during happy hour or for food ONLY. And probably will drink before I dine with them since the drinks are weak. read more

The ambiance is great. Plays array of R&B, afrobeats, and classic hip hop. The bartenders we attentive and friendly. My spicy margarita was soooo yummy & I don't even like spicy drinks. Then after dinner which everything entree was overly salty (you know black folks love salt - not) our host had a plate of cookies. No, just no. I've had Unity on my list for a minute. So me and a friend attempted to dine in last night (Sunday) for dinner. Upon entry, we attempted to sit at the bar. We were told by a security guard that there was no bartender but someone would still be able to make straight drinks for us. Red flag. After he spoke with us, we attempted to sit down just for another young lady to tell us that we had to sit at a table since there was no bartender. Mind you, there were two other patrons sitting on the other side of the bar. I guess they knew somebody... The young lady (who wasn't very personable) sat us at a high top table which was placed awkwardly. After being seated, we were forgotten. We sat for about twenty minutes before deciding to leave. The young lady, security guard and other employees were all standing by the front door. None of them even looked our way as we were exiting lol smh. I know this spot is popular for Sunday brunch, and maybe they were exhausted from that? Even though that's no excuse. I want to support Unity but they really need to do better..... read more

Wow! I visited Unity Bar for the first time for a friends birthday. There was 5 of us. It was nicely designed and the music mix was good. Unfortunately I don't have any photos because we dug right in. 3 of us ordered the jerk chicken with cabbage and rive and peas. I ordered a side of fried plantains. Portion size was very generous! The chicken was tender and juicy coming right off the bone. Everything was so flavorful and well seasoned. The plantains were a relatively small portion, but were little bites of caramelized heaven that were truly melt in your mouth good. My husband and I nearly shouted at the first bite. 1 friend got the curry shrimp with rice and pease and cabbage. She really enjoyed her meal as well but wished she had more cabbage and less spice. She had to order a piece of garlic bread and water to calm the spice! 1 friend ordered the lab chops, mashed potatoes and asparagus. They looked seasoned to perfection and juicy. She really enjoyed the meal and finished her plate as well. We all finished off with a slice of cheesecake that was so so good. Our waitress was very attentive and kind. We wanted to dine at a Black owned establishment in Baltimore so when we found Unity, we were eager to go for brunch! Here's the run down: Waited over an hour after being quoted 40 min Friendly atmosphere & good DJ (hence the 2 stars) Waited over an hour for 2 entrees & a side that never came out from a limited menu Inattentive server & management was more concerned with profit than the lack of service we had Lackadaisical owner who dismissed us Maybe dinner is different? I hope so because I truly do want to see Black businesses thrive but there's lots of need for improvement here. I won't be back. read more
