Love this place! I go every 2-4 weeks and get amazing pedicures and Pinterest worthy manicures. They take their time to do a great job but it doesn't take forever either. Consistent staff too - I've been coming here for the 5-6 years and it is same staff, who are all nice and friendly. They are great at picking colors too! I recommend making an Appointment (or at least calling ahead is a good idea) because they are almost always busy. A few times, I have tried a different place, and my nails never last as long or look as good. Here, my manicures usually last 2-3 weeks. My toes last forever. I didn't even end up getting my nails done here. It took SO many calls to get through, then when someone answered and I asked for a full set and pedicure, they just hung up on me. I called back and someone actually spoke with me and was extremely rude and was like "oh yeah come in whenever goodbye" when I responded with "can I make an actual appointment, I am on a time crunch and just don't want to be a walk-in" she was so rude to me so I decided to not book here. I ended up booking an appointment right down the street from them at US Nails and they were so kind and attentive and did an amazing job! I love a place that goes to work on my feet like an auto body shop. Unique does this and it means I'm coming back. Probably soon. As mentioned in another review, they use a callus grater...you don't always find this implement at mani/pedi salons. If it looks like it would get a dent out of a car or a medieval torture device, I want them to use it on my feet! You have to have "special", truly heinous feet like mine for them to bring the grater out from the back. Woo-hoo! Also, as mentioned, Unique is meticulous with all their grooming and at $20 for a pedicure, I appreciate that. I'm so disappointed to have to find a different place. If it were just the price or just the short duration the polish lasted, I might try to work it out with them. But the infection sealed the deal for me. I've been going here exclusively for over a year and have generally been very pleased, but as of late the service has been worse and worse and the prices go up and up. The last time I was there, I had a mani/pedi and had my daughter's nails and her two friends' nails done. The girls wanted alternating blue/green for the Hawks game coming up, and a simple snow flake on the thumb. Total time spent per girl was 10 minutes or less. In the past the cost has been $10 for similar patterns. I was charged $15 each this time. When we started coming, they only charged $5/girl for one color and a simply pattern on one nail. Keep in mind, these are 9 and 10 yo girls, and all sit quietly and are polite. The worst part -- the pedi was excruciatingly painful. As she was clipping around the cuticle, I kept telling her she was hurting me. She was smiling, "oh, sorry," then went right back to it. This was three weeks ago, and just now the pain is finally gone. Three of my toes became infected. I've also noticed that the gel nails (~$35) chip within a few days lately. I don't know if they're thinning the polish too much or filing wrong or what. This time I just got regular nail polish (trying to save a little money after spending $45 to have the girls' nails done in a way *I* could have done them), and was scolded to come back soon to get gels. All four of us had chipped paint the very next day, and for two of the girls the polish was completely gone (without trying) within 3 days. read more

I used to love unique nails. They were my go too nail place. Occasionally my nails would break, no big deal, id just go get them fixed. . Except you pay so much and expect them not to break. My final straw was paying 85 for a fill. Not even two weeks later, three of my nails have broken. There's no point in paying so much for nails that constantly break. read more

Staff was friendly and nice, as always. Paid more for my nails this time than I normally do. $40 instead of $35 for regular acrylic. It's been about 3 days since I've gotten my nails done and my skin around my nails HURT! Multiple times the woman working on my nails filed or clipped my skin with equipment. At one point the tip of the nail super glued on broke off, and instead of replacing the nail, she simply glued back on the broken tip. Worried about possibly infecting at least one of my fingers nails where the skin had been clipped at, dry, cracked and irritated, and spreading downwards. Have attached some pictures, but not all! The ladies are nice but this place is way overpriced. The quality isn't great and every time I go in for a fill, they charge me for full set. In addition they charge 20 for gel paint and another 20 at least if you want a design. My last and only 3 FILLS have cost $90, and my nails arr short. I went here based off a recommendation from a friend. So I tried it and it dipping powder which previously I've never had chip. After 2 days one nail chipped off, so I got it fixed. The next day another one chipped and it kept happening until I've half were broken off. I paid $50 and they told me when I got the chance to go in that it had been over 10 days and it was my fault. Even though I had gone in 2 days after l I got them to fix the first. Waste of my money. Never going back. Went back to my usual salon and paid less for a better job. read more

I booked an appointed for 5 last saturday fory sisters bachelorette party. They said it be no problem to do 5 girls. And it wasn't though they only had 4 nail stations. Now I had never booked a nail appt before nor had I gotten my nails done so I was very glad when they graciously allowed us to do nail art without saying that in our booking. Though my sister said one said to her " next time tell us cause now we are backed up" I can understand letting us know that but it was obvious she was the bride (giant bride hat on) so it should have been brought up with one of us other girls. Do not go here if there are more than 2 customers. They need your business but the RUSHED service is not worth it! Especially if your pedi person has a nail appt waiting. We walked in for 2 Pedi's @same time on 11/7 @11:45. Three ladies were working & 1 man, but he sat on his rump in a corner and did nothing but watch his lil hens work. My pedi lasted 20 minutes, start to finish (including polish), barely any foot or leg rubbing & I was more than 1/2 way done when they finally started on my spouse. Stop in to get a pedicure since my normal spot was booked and I needed one asap for a wedding. I've looked at their reviews before when I needed a back up and since they are so close to the house figured it would be a good one. Walked in and I was the only customer which only lasted for a little bit. I was acknowledged upon entering and directed to a pedicure chair. The chair didn't want to move forward which is needed since I'm like super tall, NOT, lol! We made it work since she already filled up the bowl and I didn't want to be wasteful. Overall the pedicure was ok/good, nothing out of this world. She did take care of my ingrowns but I did have to ask and she was a little heavy handed but I can take it since I deal with them. When I paid and went to tip she asked if I had cash instead which luckily I did, which is rare or else she would have be goose egged. I will keep this place as a back-up. read more

I had acrylic nails applied. They looked really nice, but I ended up with a FUNGUS under my thumbnail. I have never had this happen at any other slain. This means they DON'T CLEAN THEIR INSTRUMENTS!!! I WILL NOT RETURN!!! After reading the comment of the owner below. I am appalled. First of all, the infection happened before 2 weeks time. Second of all, how dare you accuse me of causing the fungus. I am a nurse. My hands are always clean. You sir are a poor businessman. I had such a fabulous time here! My classmates and I had just finished a grueling week with three exams and decided to do a little pampering to reward ourselves for a job well-done. I've never had a mani/pedi before so I turned to Yelp for some help. We found Unique Nails and headed right over after our last test. Around 1pm, there weren't very many customers in the salon yet so we were seated right away with no reservations. We got to sit back, relax, and allowed the awesome people at Unique Nails to massage our legs and feet, pamper us with scrubs, clay, and wax...all while letting the back massager run the entire time. They finished us off by working on our nails and I couldn't be happier with the results. My fingers and toes look great! The women working were super friendly, did great work, and my friends and I had an awesome experience. I never understood why girls spent money to get their nails and toes painted, but now I do; it's less about the nail painting and much more about the relaxation. Now I wish I could do this on a weekly basis. read more

My wife and I spent some vacation days in Seattle area and had to stop in Tacoma for a coffee break at Cutters Point Coffee Shop. When we got out of there, my wife was attracted by this very good looking nail salon and we both decided that it might be a good time to refresh our nails and hands :-) The place is clean and every tool and instrument looked well maintained. My wife had acrylic nails and both of us had a pedicure. My wife loved her nails design. She usually do her nails in Soho in the heart of Manhattan (close to her workplace) and she told me she couldn't see the difference except she paid half of what she is used to in NYC. One of my favorite go-to places to get a pedicure. Unique Nails is clean, spacious, and there is plenty of parking. For $20, you get - a detailed nail trim and cleaning - sloughing of dead skin with an instrument like a cheese grater - massage of calves with lotion and exfoliant - hot towels - nail polish I especially like how detail-oriented the beauticians are here with both the cleaning and the polish. I'm not sure what universe you live in but your nail designs are not worth $20. I will not be returning to you ever again. It seems a bit ridiculous to me considering every other nail place charges $10-$15 but you would charge $20 plus just for a nail design on my nails. As soon as she told me that I was immediately out. You guys are good but you definitely don't weren't spending that much on top of the other things that you overpriced. I decided to come to this salon because my normal salon (US Nails) was slammed. There were a few pros, but some cons as well. Overall, It wasn't bad, but I won't be switching salons based on my experience today. Pros: they do fantastic nail art, the technicians are kind and friendly, and the facility is clean and very appealing. Cons: they were very busy today (not a con- as that's not their fault), but I felt a little misled on how long the wait would be. At my normal salon, they give me a time estimate. Here, she told me to have a seat and pick out my shellac color, so I'm thinking this won't be too bad- well I waited almost an hour. Yes, I know I could have gotten up at any time, however I had invested the time in already, and I really wanted my nails done. My nails look great, however the tips are rough and have been snagging on my clothes and blankets all day. I don't want to spend $40 on a shellac manicure just to have it chip off because it wasn't filed correctly. Finally, my normal salon massages my hands (and feet when doing a pedicure) at least twice as long as what I experienced today; no matter how busy. read more

I started going for acrylics in October of 2016 because I had seen people who had great looking nails who said they went here. I had removed my acrylic nails that a former shop had done (to let my nails rest) and my nails were very healthy and strong. I got a full set of acrylics and a pedicure for my birthday and I was pleased on that day. I've had acrylics nails on and off since the 90s and one thing that has never happened was for me to get fungus or any other type of infection from going to a nail shop. Where here, at Unique Nails in Tacoma, as of yesterday, March 3, 2017, I discovered that I have FUNGUS on my right thumb nail! Observersations and Timeline of Events: The staff is very nice and friendly. I loved that. The shop appears to be kept very clean. Jenny and Lee are excellent at doing nails. I did notice that there was a continuing problem with the sides of my nails lifting from the acrylic. I alerted them about the lifting. Some used glue to stop this. Some used too little glue or the glue didn't work. One used enough glue for it to work (Lee). One time after one or two days of just getting my nails done most of my nails had lifted from the acrylic. I came back to the shop on the next day or two and the owner glued them down. By my next fill time some had lifted again. The person that I seen that day attempted to clean the nails and make sure they were sealed. The last two times prior to the fungus discovery that I got a fill, I noticed they were very careful to put glue on my tips...one even gushed glue in between the nail and the acrylic. I should have been alarmed with the fact that that there was that much space. I didn't notice any dirt in the nails or discoloration, however. So I thought I was okay. When Jenny did it, she took special care to try to clean the nails. Yesterday, March 3rd, I went in for a fill. It had been 3 weeks since my last. I go every 2 to three weeks (usually 2). I hadn't noticed any unusual lifting this time except a minor one on my ring finger on my left hand. When the tech removed the nail polish. I could see that my right thumb nail was extremely dark underneath the acrylic. However. She didn't say anything. I pointed out to the tech that the nail looks bad. She then tapped another tech and showed her my dark, acrylic covered nail. The tech told me that it looks like water got under there and it needed to be taken off, cleaned and she would put on a new tip. The tech was removing the nail and there was thick, brown stuff on top of my nail. I stated that it was disgusting and I had never had anything like this happen before. She told me not to look as she kept trying to remove the acrylic. I told her I'm going to keep looking because something is wrong. When she got the acrylic off, she took the drill and tried to drill the dark brown and green fungus off. The thickness came off but the nail still showed infection (I face a picture). She asked me what I wanted to do or did I want her to put a tip on. I told her that I was going to go to the doctor and get treated and I didn't want a nail put back on. She kept saying to me, "When I do nails, I use glue to make sure this doesn't happen and I clean them." I assured her that this was true of her but obviously not everyone follows that protocol. I contemplated whether I wanted them to take all the nails off. I was very angry at this point and trying to remain calm and figure out how to handle this. Then the owner beeezes by and looks at my nail and tells me that water got in between my nails and the acrylic and that I should have came in like I did the one time and got them glued down and that I can just keep my nail clipped and in a couple of weeks the fungus would grow out and I can get a nail put back on! That threw me over the edge. I hadn't seen a problem anymore in between or otherwise I would have come in like I did before. Did she really just blame me for the fungus they gave me? Did she really just try to brush it off and say just let it grow out and not suggest treatment?! One of the techs tried to tell me to go to another booth so they could do whatever they thought they were going to do. However. I got up and stormed out! One of the things I can respect is when people take ownership. When that doesn't happen, I'm done. I've seen others who have shared that they have gotten fungus from this shop and I've seen the shop use the same reasoning and blame game. If this has not happened to people before (and in my case over 20 years of getting my nails done) and then it happens at your shop for the first time, there is a problem with protocol! I hate giving out negative reviews and it's actually embarrassing to have to admit that I have fungus but I think it is important so that future clients can just be aware and cautious. read more
