Martina and all of her staff are fantastic. The salon is clean but also welcoming. All of the instruments they use are sterilized and everything is very hygienic. While getting your pedicure you may end up with Martina's little pup Chai on your lap (with consent, of course) -- always a bonus for me! read more

The nail service I received was standard, but overall I didn't feel very welcomed. The vibe felt a bit off, and my nail technician came across as cold, so I have never returned since. I initially didn't plan to write a review since this appointment was over two years ago, but the experience stuck with me. I remember leaving feeling uncomfortable and not welcomed, which says a lot given how many nail salons I've been to. I felt it was important to share and I hope this was just a singular customer experience and off day for the salon. Update: Thank you for your response! I truly appreciated it and I completely understand your perspective. I know it's been some time, but the experience stayed with me, which is why I felt comfortable sharing it now. My intention wasn't to reflect your current team, and I truly hope things have continued to grow and improve since then. Wishing you and your staff all the best. read more

I chose the Lulu non-toxic manicure that is supposed to last up to two weeks. It is less than 24 hours later, and it's starting to peel from the bottom and sides on several nails. I was also told that my pedicure was dry and ready to go. When I got home, my left big toe was damaged. I could not go back to have it repaired, because they were closed for the day and I was leaving to go out of town. Very expensive and I will not go back. read more

Shout out to the staff at Charme. I scheduled this past Saturday for a badly needed pedicure. I have a back injury that prevents me from bending and it sometimes keeps me from my nail care. I also have a condition that causes extra nails to grow and in the past, technicians have either clipped them off completely or ripped them out causing me to bleed. Its made me wary of going to nail salons but I really do need help sometimes. The staff here greeted me warmly, they were very gentle, nonjudgmental, and understanding. Everything was very clean and I'm pleased to find a place that has waterless pedicures. I will definitely be back. read more

TL:DR - This place charges premium prices WITHOUT the premium services. Owner is not focused on the customer experience and bullies dissatisfied customers. Treats disabled/elderly people very poorly. Was not upfront about all fees/charges. If you are considering using this business, I urge you to read the owner's responses to negative customer reviews; you'll find an insecure person who gives little thought to her customers (probably because she's too busy writing nasty, snarky, mean responses to customer complaints). Welcome to the longest review I've ever written; however, as the owner said to my mother - I'm not going to let false claims go unchecked. My BFF only booked this place because it was the only one with availability for our group of 5 - and we quickly found out why they had openings after our appointment. It was very underwhelming and one of the most expensive mani/pedi I have ever gotten. This would be fine, but you pay premium dollar without the kind of customer experience I would expect when I'm paying this kind of money. What we received was really an overpriced express service. On top of the roughly $800 for 5 mani/pedi (this includes tip), plus $75 clean-up fee, she also charged us an extra $50 a person ($250) which was not communicated at all ahead of time, nor is it advertised on her website. It was a special day, so my BFF just paid it and didn't say anything. My mom was especially disappointed, and made it known in 3 sentences on Yelp. The owner responded very unkindly to my elderly, disabled mother, and ended her nasty reply with that she wished her "a better attention span." My mom is in her 70s and is disabled, you'll tell her something multiple times in a 20-minute period and she just doesn't remember (having brain lesions tends to do that to someone). She literally can't "have a better attention span." That's what disabled is. Keep this in mind this as this is how the owner treats senior people with disabilities. She also claimed to my mom, "Your daughter had a great time, and we went out of our way to make her feel cared for." That was me, and I didn't feel you went out of the way at all. I sat on the side and was barely acknowledged for quite awhile, and was not even offered something to drink while I waited for my turn. I actually felt the opposite of cared for. Offering even some water at the start of an appointment really sets the tone; this is a pretty low bar to set, and this salon couldn't even meet that. She also told my mom we were 30 min late...the first person showed up 9:55am, and the last person (me) showed up at 10:14am. I know because my phone records my location and date/time. I will own up to the lateness, but it was NOT 30 min late. She sent a nasty email to my BFF, who had nothing to do with the review my mom wrote. I find this to be HIGHLY unprofessional behavior. It would have probably been better to ask, "I see someone in your party was unhappy, what could we have done differently/better?" Had she reached out kindly, we probably could have resolved everything; however, using her own words - if she spent half as much energy listening to her customers as she does writing snarky replies to negative reviews, we wouldn't be here. You'll find going through her responses to others, she doesn't take customer inputs/criticism at all and insecurely spends an inordinate amount of time responding in a very defensive manner. She will tell you "We have been in business for 10 years so we must be doing something right!" It's a unique business model that should be thriving in the greater Seattle area - if after 10 years it's still a struggling small business having to justify every dollar you charge someone and not growing, you are NOT doing something right. read more

***READ THIS B4 SCHEDULING! BEWARE DO NOT BOOK ANY APPOINTMENTS ONLINE!*** I read thru past history comments & there's a common theme associated w/CHARME - crap customer service. I regret not doing my homework before scheduling. It was an $85 mistake---but shout out to AMEX---TY for investigating my dispute. AMEX- don't leave home w/o it. Enjoy the review---------------------- **WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE** ***AWFUL FINANCIAL POLICY*** They rob their customers. Owner/Management lacks empathy and they are unwavering with there cancelation policy. If an appointment is BOOKED ONLINE and you cancel within 24 hours, THE FULL AMOUNT OF THE SERVICE is charged to your credit card. In my case, this was $85!!! What happened---I booked an appointment on 9 MAY at 2:15pm for a 4:15pm appointment. My son had a DDA case manager appointment at the house at 3pm and it went longer than expected. I called the salon at 4:15pm to ask if I can reschedule. I was offered another appointment, but was told that I would still need to PAY THE $85 cancellation fee. MY JAW DROPPED! They said the owner would call me to discuss other options. When the DDA case manager left my house at about 5:30pm, I hadn't receive a call, so I drove over to the salon to speak with the manager/owner. Well that was useless. Interaction was brief and Martina was clearly put off that I was there to discuss the $85 as if I was the CRAZY ONE. No, I am not!!! There was no room for negotiating down the $85, first time offense, repeat client appreciation. Customer service is a dying element within business industries. I would pay double for a pedicure, if it was accompanied by amazing customer service, which is why I shop at Nordstrom and Patagonia. They are amazing. Having said this, clearly this company is MORE INTERESTED IN THEIR REVENUE and NOT THEIR CLIENTS. I am happy to spend a small portion of my big pay checks at other businesses that treat their customers with respect. Charme stays in business by taking advantage of their clients. Personally, I think the whole no water thing is a gimmick...not having to pay money for water & electricity to run salon chairs saves Martina LOTS OF MONEY, but their prices are among the highest in Tacoma. Life is unpredictable and full of surprises and if a business owner can't empathize with that, then I don't want DO SPEND MONEY on a business THAT DOESN'T put people first. (Sounds like our current president). Read her reply which reads like an AI assisted response or perhaps it's was cut and pasted from her previous Yelp replies to dissatisfied customers. I foresee Charme being out of business in the next three years, they won't survive the current economy. read more

Not worth it. Wouldn't recommend. Paid $128 with 18% tip for a mani with polish, and pedi with clear polish. Spent almost 2hrs there. I recognize I was a walk-in and they're appointment only. After 10min into my manicure, I changed my mind to only get a manicure and they said there's a 24hr cancellation policy so I was locked into also getting a pedicure (but I just walked in?). I'm mainly upset that my nails look stubby, short, and dry. Both the manicure and pedicure did not involve water (dry pedicure) and there's no added benefit ie lotion, massage, water/tea, etc. They did have a wine/cocktail/beverage bar, but I wasn't offered anything. Basically, I could have bought the supplies and given myself the same results at home. Update: I just got home, took off my shoes, and talking about the experience is making me more upset. No hot towels, lotion, scrub, wash, or massage. They literally took a spray bottle to my feet and didn't even clean under my nails. How can they justify this price for the experience?? read more

Awesome service and worth the price you pay. The establishment is clean and everyone friendly. I see some reviews about having to pay for a missed session but they do not have walk in services only scheduled - so if you don't reschedule to give them enough time to fill the slot that is unearned time. It is in their agreement that you will have to pay for the slot you missed. Make sure you plan ahead for contingency childcare if you must. I recommend any of the team. I tried this place out and it was truly the worst mani pedi I've ever had. Expensive but shoddy. My polish was running low so she added in thinner and I ended up with nails that were bubbly and uneven. Several of my nails still had little nail shards at the end, making them sharp and uneven looking. No real trimming of the cuticles or dry skin. I overhead some of the other nail techs making fun of a previous customer. I asked for a french tip and was told, oh we only do art with gel (fair enough) but also there isn't time for gel so, actually, just no. Never had a nail place just refuse to do something so basic. Bad vibes all around. I came home and took the polish off and fixed it myself. I will not be back. Updated with a picture of the bad texture. Per response from owner, okay, I misunderstood your somewhat complicated website and set of rules! That doesn't change the fact that the basic service I ended up getting wasn't good. What a relief that my bad time was apparently all my fault! read more

I left a review on Google and they tried to gaslight me writing back that I didn't get this infection after their salon when I said I got it in January. I meant I got three infections after that place right away I didn't touch my nails whatsoever. It has gotten so bad first of all the person that was supposed to do my nails that I booked with wasn't even there and the receptionist started doing my nails And she started filing them right away and then asked me if I like them short like I had a option at that point, the reply from the owner to my review on Google was very rude compared to the other bad reviews that she replied to this business is not gonna go anywhere I've never had this from anyone doing my nails I didn't touch them or pick at them right after and right after I started getting these infections. read more

My family has been going to Charme for the last year and love Martina and her people. Charme is a waterless salon and focuses on your health and well-being while working on your nails. The staff is always friendly, appointments are handled promptly, and Chai, the shop dog, stays out of everyone's way. Charme isn't a drop in salon - you will need reservations! The employee in charge of booking could use some staff development in customer service. I booked an appointment on Nov 17 for service on Dec 5th. On Nov 28th I received a text that their system glitched and I would need to reschedule. I was pretty bummed and asked if the other customer had been asked about rescheduling. She let me know that it was a group booking who booked in October. Understandable. I let her know I wasn't trying to be difficult and could reschedule to the week before but also asked if this was typical. I felt like her response of "as we stated it was a glitch" was a snarky "as per my last email". I let them know that I understood the glitch but that didn't acknowledge whether or not it is common and thanked her for reaching out. She responded with "Specifying it was a glitch should suffice. But you seem super concerned so I went ahead and cancelled your appointment". All for small business and the owner's model seems great but a simple "sorry for the inconvenience this doesn't typically happen" would have "sufficed." Darn. Was looking forward to trying this place but I'll just stick with La Bella (also in Proctor). Edit: Updated with the full text exchange. I originally gave a 3 star review because I thought the exchange was not the friendliest but figured it was an employee not the owner and probably caught her on a bad day. Then a friend let me know that this "professional" business has a "days since last Karen" countdown and the owner was polling her social media followers on this exchange while not being honest about her responses. Decided to try a "dry pedicure" for the first time. Website states how much better of a pedicure you get when your feet don't soak up water. Direct quote from their website "A better pedicure in which the nail tech can address problem areas (such as calluses and rough skin) as they will be visible when feet aren't saturated" As you can see from the picture the amount of scrubbing they do on your feet is a joke. She did not remove any of the dead skin or calluses. I get pedicures religiously and my last pedicure was 13 days ago, so there was not a large build up dead skin. I paid for the top pedicure. To walk out with my feet looking and feeling horrible for $75 is a joke. read more

EDITED TO ADD: The owner's response says all you need to know about this place. RUN! This is a cute studio, but it's not for everybody. I've been here several times for manicures, as I was looking for natural nail care for my damaged post dip powder nails. The services that are offered here are pretty good, especially if you're looking to strengthen your nails. I was happy with the outcome of my first few manis. The last manicure I had included a more sheer polish, and it came out pretty uneven and lumpy. Since structural gel nail polish was used on my nails first, it limited the number of coats of color I could use. I wasn't told this. They only used one coat of the color I wanted. When I contacted the owner/manager, she immediately defended the lumpy and uneven polish application (saying that's what happens with sheer polish ) and then offered to put on another coat of the sheer polish. I asked if I could just do a similar opaque coat instead. Silence...she just books me for a nail repair for the next day. I come in the next day and I don't get that cheerful "Hi Brittany!" That I got every other time. LOL. My tech asked her if she could do an opaque color over my sheer nails and instead of answering directly or explaining, she just went and got the same sheer color and painted my nail. It was weird and passive aggressive. The nail tech was super sweet! I am very sensitive to changes in energy and the manager/owner's energy was cold after a simple request for a color fix. I don't know why service providers can't accept that something went wrong. She could've easily kept me as a customer if she approached the problem even slightly different. She could've offered to just do my color completely over. I guess we all have a lot to learn. read more

I've been going to Charme for years with my husband and our daughters. Martina and her staff are absolutely amazing! I initially looked into Charme because of the waterless services and appreciated how hygienic everything is. No matter which staff member I see, I always end up happy with my results. I also know that if for any reason I wasn't happy, all I would have to do is talk to Martina about it and she would take care of it. But, several years in and that hasn't happened yet! The staff really seems like a family and as a small business owner myself, I appreciate how protective Martina is of her staff. Over the years I've seen people complain about having to pay for their missed session, but we have to enter our credit card when we book the appointment and check off that we agree to that stipulation. There shouldn't be any surprises there unless you failed to read what you agreed to. but it's the no-shows to appointments that would understandably cause issues when they are by appointment only. Things happen, They are well worth the money spent! Her staff always remembers us, our names, what's going on in our lives---I can't recommend Charme enough and won't go anywhere else in Tacoma! read more

I'm new to the area and saw this place and thought I would check it out given the 4.5 star rating. Unfortunately, it was probably one of the worst manicures I have received. I treated myself to the Charme mani and pedi and it was less than charming. While the treatments were fine, the actual polish and shaping was done incredibly poorly. After 1 day, I had layers of gel polish peeling up, the edges were not shaped well and every nail has uneven polish and bumps. Even my husband said something, and I'm lucky if he notices when I get my hair done lol. I reached out to the salon directly about a refund and never heard back so I figured the least I can do is warn others. I spent $186 and have the worst mani pedi to show for it. read more

I am a newer customer of Charme - have been in twice for a mani and/or pedi and twice for training sessions. Every time I have left more than satisfied with the services I've had done. I was skeptical of the whole waterless pedi - would it be as good or relaxing as a "typical" pedi at another salon? I'm here to tell you - yes, yes it is. Had one yesterday and was so relaxed that I almost fell asleep in the chair - win, since relaxing is definitely what I needed! I can't stop looking at my mani either - I had a newer technician but she took her time to make sure everything was perfect. The vibe in the salon is super chill, the music is always good and Martina (owner) is always very attentive to anything going on and is ready to help her staff if they need it. Every time I've had a service, she personally came over to take a look so I am 1000% certain that if there was an issue, she would have made it right then and there if asked. I also love the more natural approach that Charme does in terms of its products. read more

Update to my update: Martina are you not familiar with Yelp? People come here to give honest feedback on business's, food, services, etc. Not a single thing on my review was aimed at accusing you or your techs of anything, it is honest feedback, proven with photos. In fact, I even stated in my first review that I was not even sure if I can blame your salon/products for the reaction, I just simply stated that maybe those with sensitive skin should steer clear given that I had what felt like a burn all over my legs. I have been getting regular manicures and pedicures for over 20 years, I have rarely had polish applied this poorly, and have never ever ever had a skin reaction like this...For $138 I should not have to point out crappy polish application, you should take notice of the work you are doing and fix it. This is not hard to see. I also should not have to return to a salon again to have it fixed. I tipped 20% because I am not a jerk and this very kind woman spent time on my service. But it is silly to think ANYONE would leave a positive review on the polish application or skin reaction. I am really sorry this review upset you as badly as it seems to have, that was not my intention. I am glad that you can see that your service was not up to par, I appreciate the acknowledgment of that. Take good care, neighbor. Update: Since the owner of this salon took the time to shame me for my nails being damaged I am following up with pictures of the manicure which clearly show just plain ol' crappy application. No amount of damage would result in top coat and polish application like this. With regard to the price, girl, I'm HAPPY to spend all the money in the world to treat myself, I do it often, but the service should match the amount of money I spend. Looking back at many of the negative reviews on here you can see similar polish application. And why on earth would I lie about an allergic reaction?! I was simply posting for people who have sensitive skin is all... though reading your replies on every single other negative review, it doesn't shock me that you replied this way. What a shame. Ugh so torn about writing this review because the gal that did my nails was so so so nice, the space is cute and CLEAN, shop dog is adorable, music is great but for the amount of money I paid today for a non-gel mani/pedi ($138!) my manicure is pretty bad. Nail polish is uneven, and the top coat is not applied over the full nail leaving a weird uneven outline in all fingernails. None of my nails are fully painted - edges are all wonky and unevenly painted. My cuticles are dry and rough to the touch and while this is not their fault per se, I think I should warn people with sensitive skin, I have a rash up to my knees from my pedicure today. I have been getting pedis for many many many years and haven't ever had this happen- again- I don't think I can really fault the salon for this, but one would hope that they were using hypoallergenic stuff? Idk maybe they are but my skin did not agree and is very painful to the touch, just took two Benedryl and placed a cold towel on my legs to calm the stinging, redness and swelling. I really wanted to love this place. I love the idea of a waterless pedi and mani - and they are a very nice group of women. But my god, I've NEVER paid this much for a mani/pedi and had the result look this bad. I'm all about paying for great service, and love that they pay their employees a livable wage, but if I am paying this much for a mani/pedi- I want it to be the best darn mani/pedi I've ever had. Just is not the case, I won't be back :( read more

I am incredibly disappointed that the owner is inferring in her response that I changed my story when I spoke to them to reschedule and when they contacted me to say I'd be charged in full 4 hours after the fact. My parents - who is my son's grandparents - is my child care - had COVID. I provided the same explanation for my reschedule but it appears the staff were not actively listening or simply can't remember after a week, which I will not fault them for that as I am sure they are quite busy. However, instead of taking responsibility for your staff not being educated on your policies you are choosing to lay blame on the customer. It is no fault but the owners to train their staff and ensure they communicate effectively to your customers, especially if you do not have a formal receptionist. This confusion and clarity could have been provided when I first called, not 4-5 hours after the fact. Your inflexibility for your staff's miscommunication should not make the client suffer. And for that I am disappointed in this place of business and hopefully my experience will educate others on your strictly enforced cancel and reschedule policy. read more

She was cool- easy to talk with, she reminded me to stop picking at my nails when stressed and was down to earth. Just what I needed. I'm reading some of the reviews and can validate that the service and the quality of work are disappointing/terrible. So far, I've had a gel manicure & pedicure, eyebrows, and lashes done here. I swear, I'm gonna end up working so I have the cash to keep going back. I absolutley hate the atmosphere in standard nail salons. Charme is the total opposite. I think they have a total of 3 or 4 spots for mani/pedis. That in itself says a ton to me. I'm not a fan of pedicures -- having someone at my feet is really weird for me. Having a waterless pedicure done, where the chair reclined and I didn't feel like I was looking down at someone was great. I went to Martina a few times back when she used to work for La Bella and always liked her work there, but once she left I stopped going all together because the quality really went downhill. I was so excited even I realized this was her salon. She didn't personally do my nails this time but I was still happy because the salon was beautiful and clean and the work was detail oriented just like her. No matter how great the work, it doesn't matter if I see dust everywhere and there is nothing more disgusting than seeing a tech finish a pedicure on someone and then try to use the same tools on you. I have seen that happen time and time again everywhere else. Everything here is autoclaved and opened right in front of you and they even give you the file and buffer they used to take home giving me peace of mind that I'm not going to walk away with an infection. All in all my manicure took nearly two hours but that was ok for me because the tech was so detail oriented and careful unlike a lot of other salons that rush through. I have been cut so many times before elsewhere because the techs were so rushed! The color selection here was something else with over 400 colors to choose from! Can't wait for my next visit for a mani, pedi, and puppy therapy!! Will always rather spend my money at businesses like these read more
