I wish I remember the gal that did my brows name, she did a fabulous job. She double checked with the owner (who was absolutely lovely) on her work. The establishment has nice vibe, but a couple things bothered me. The lady waxing occurs on a table with a hard plastic sheet and no pillow or head cushion. While on the table you are forced to stare into very bright ceiling lights. Lastly, there was no hand sanitizer or soap to wash your hands after you clean yourself. I went here in 2021 and saw Hana. This was my first waxing experience and I've never ever forgotten about it. She made me SO uncomfortable and insecure that I think about what she said and how she said it EVERYTIME I've gotten a wax anywhere else since. I've had my brows done in salons, waxing studios, nail places, and a beauty-school-friend's living room. I've watched a million online tutorials, spent a lot of good money on brow kits and stencils that come with instructions. I didn't really know how to put it all together until I saw Amanda at X Wax. The studio is small but well-appointed and arranged. Just a heads up - you can park in front of the building, just try to do so in an orderly manner to leave room for other folks. When I arrived, time was taken to look at my brows as-is, ask how I usually handle them at home, ask when the last time I had them waxed, plucked, or otherwise altered was, and if I had any concerns. Care was taken to explain to me how the shape for my brows was being chosen, how to make the arch look great at home and how to fill the scar that runs through mine, as well as some other sparseness issues. I was offered the chance to schedule my next appointment on the spot or call back to schedule (of course, I scheduled on the spot - my brows looked better than they ever had after an appointment.) I was given tips on where my brows should probably fill in from previous waxers butchering my natural brows and when I should come in next to keep them whipped into shape. Highly recommended, just give yourself a few extra minutes to find parking, it can be difficult right around that intersection. read more

I was in the shop today and witnessed the employer grab one of their fairly new employee's hand rough in frustration , and even hip bumped her out the way, in front of the client. The employee was Hispanic and the employer made a racist remark. Asking her if she needed to explain it to her in Spanish, and by the looks of her employer you can tell she didn't know Spanish. This was so unprofessional, disgusting and made my blood boil at this racist remark since I myself am Hispanic . I feel so bad for that young lady. I hope this isn't something that's happening to their employees. read more

I can't believe I've not posted a review for this place yet. I've gone to a number of places for brows. My very first experience, YEARS ago left me looking like Spock. I'm not kidding. My brows were completely straight and slanted up. It was horrid. Somehow I soldiered on and found other places to get my brows waxed, with mixed results. I've had OK brows and great brows from the many different places I've been to. When I moved to Tacoma I was worried about finding a new place that had actual experience doing good brow work. That's what you find at XWAX. Kristian (sp?), the owner, is not only great at her job, but she is also super fun to talk to. On several occasions, she has managed to squeeze in another service I've wanted or managed to put several appointments together so I didn't have to wait. I've recommended XWAX to at least one friend and now she drives a half hour to get there due to the excellent service and consistently great results. Everyone in Tacoma knows this is where you go for your waxing and brows. Now you know too. Also, opt for the nostril service... I know, gross right? But you'll love yourself for it. No one wants to look like that gross old dude with nostril hair. We all have it. We don't have to keep it. read more

I come from bremerton and it's worth every minute of the drive! When I walked in the very first time a few months ago in need of help for my eyebrows, I was handed off to a very nice girl named Rylee. She mapped out my eyebrows and basically made a plan for my eyebrow growth. I thought it was kinda silly at first... I went in for a wax.. not a growth plan? Little did I know a month later my eyebrows started to look better than ever. Rylee has done wonders for my eyebrows with tinting and waxing. Now 3 visits later and my eyebrows have never looked better my whole life! I would recommend Rylee and the XWAX group to anybody anytime :) PS I just received a call today saying rylee is no longer a member there. :( read more

I've always had my eyebrows done at a nail shop or threaded at the mall. This studio is beautiful and professional. My gal was super informative and gave me hope my eyebrows will fill out over time. Now I just need to leave them alone and let the pro's handle them from here. I love how they look now. I hate to have to update my review to less than great. The girl I was seeing was no longer working when I was ready for my next appointment. The first time with a new girl was great, she was personable and seemed confident in what she was doing. My second visit with her was much different. She seemed surprised I asked about her daughter, like how I knew she had one (We talked about our kids at the last appointment). She looked at my eyebrows and asked "So what are you trying to do here?" and then something like I don't know what to tell you about your brows. They grow different on both sides, I've never seen anything like this before, have you considered microblading. Now I really don't have issue with what she said it was how she said it. I felt like maybe it was more than she wanted to deal with, she seemed a little put off this day and I felt like an inconvenience. Did not return. read more

I have to say after being a customer for over a year. I'm deeply unhappy with my last experience. i know the holidays are crazy and they did their best to fit me in however, I never felt more than un-relaxed for a facial and a horribly messy wax..... I am unimpressed with having left Xwax with tons of wax all over me...having the wax "expertise" wax over and over in so many of the same places. This left me extremely sore and looking awful....I have been waxing for over 10 years. I had long enough hair there was truly no excuse besides her not being experienced enough. and My facial was so rushed and in a hurry my dermaplaning felt dry and uncomfortable on my skin... overall for how much money I've invested on skin care at this place and even with all the waxing and facials I am never returning. Im also really sad Josie is gone! I had my brows microbladed here 18 months ago. I needed a standard touch up for fading. I was not given instructions for blading prep and had trouble with bleeding at my appt. I paid $275. When I left, Kristin instructed the receptionist that I would need a standard touch up 6 weeks later. I had unsatisfactory results with splotching instead of individual strokes and uneven color of ink. When I called to schedule I was told I would need to pay another $275. I'm upset to have to change my rating but my recent communication experience with them has left me wanting to go elsewhere. The studio recently unveiled online booking, which I used (and received a confirmation of my appointment) but when I arrived to the studio no one was there. I called them to schedule thinking maybe it was an issue with the online booking system but when I called to make an appointment I never got a call back. Its a bummer because I have only had amazing experiences at X-wax and I love my brows whenever they do them. Kristen is all fabulousness and fun, and all business all at once. My brows look better than they have ever looked! For 20 years, they were shortened, thinned, over-plucked, and generally abused. They were a full quarter-inch higher than they were supposed to be! It took about nine months for Kristen to find and save them (it turns out they don't grow back quickly), but she did and now they're fabulous. This will now be my go to waxing place in Tacoma. My biggest issue with waxing is that I'm red afterwards and you don't exactly want to be out in the world with a red mustache. I did not have that after getting waxed here. So I'm coming back for that alone. Other positives, the place is adorable and reasonably priced. Do not go here... my brows looked amazing initially, and they're naturally very full but unruly so I thought I would try lamination. The process itself was expensive but I was happy. A little two weeks later (present day) I am full on BALDING. I did all the aftercare and I have never had issues before so I know they must have over processed. I attempted to reach out to the business to see if they could do anything or AT LEAST give me a refund. I didn't get a response for a couple days and then was contacted by the manager saying she was on medical and that if I had an issue I needed to call sooner. I tried to explain that initially I had to problems but now they're balding at a really fast rate. She reluctantly agreed to look at photos and said she would follow and never did, tried to contact the salon again and no response. I would happily give 0 stars if I could. I had another esthetician take a look and she said it was done wrong and that my brows were WAY over processed. She also said this could result in permanent hair loss. Sounds fun right?? When I made the decision to leave the state I became accustomed to I thought about how I would have to leave my amazing hair stylist and brow artist. lol With that being said, when I finally moved here I made a bad decision. That bad decision was to go to the Tacoma Mall "Brow Art" studio to get my eye brows done for about 4-5 months. Long story short my once perfect eye brows became a hot mess in a short amount of time. In contrast, I began searching the internet for a talented brow artist, because let's be honest ladies- brows make your whole look. I came upon Kristen and Amanda's amazing reviews on Yelp and Facebook. After I seen the before and after pictures I was sold! I promise you this studio will not let you down; Kristen's work is consistent. In addition it is evident that she is extremely passionate about not only her work but her customers. At my first appointment there was a client waiting for the owner. The girl that was doing my brows was trying to reach her and couldn't get ahold of her, and her appointment was waiting. Around the end of my appointment she called and said she had over slept. The client waited 30 min for her and then had to leave without getting her service done. Another day I was there to get my brows done. The owner was complaining to me and the girl doing my brows about how someone had scheduled her during her lunch and she said "why don't I get a lunch?!" in a crazy, whiny tone. Another day- I had a 10am appointment scheduled. I was awakened by the owner calling me at 7 or 8 am to tell me that she has hurt her back and wants to know if I can push my appointment out so that the girl doing my brows can help her with her clients. I was totally taken aback by how she sounded on the phone and it was not very professional. I told her it was no problem and I could do that, but when I arrived at XWAX she hadn't even told the girl that I had my appointment with any of this. I couldn't enjoy my experience and almost every single time I came to this place the owner acted totally unprofessional and it makes me not want to return. read more

It seems not a big deal, but even the eyebrow shape has cultural differences in terms of shapes, so I'm very glad I finally have my eyebrows shapes back. I recently moved to Tacoma, walked by this place a month or so ago & finally got there for a much needed brow, lip & chin wax today. Lovely & hip environment. Sheena was fab! I have spent the better part of 25 years getting my face wax work done at the nail salon, convenience. Not anymore. XWAX is my new spot. I'm updating this review to share my experience with XWax's new Eyelash Extension Services, XLash! Last month I got a full set by Kileigh, and just last week I went in for my first fill. I am SO beyond content with the results. The service can take up to 2 hours, but its definitely worth it. Waking up with lashes and not having to go through the mascara routine is a true life changer! Definitely recommend XWax to anyone thinking about Eyelash Extensions.
