Trena Ansari at Willow Salon burned my scalp, gave me neon orange hair, and cut my hair extremely choppy and unevenly (three inches shorter from the right side to left, with one chunk 7-8 inches too short it's at ear level). She was also 45 minutes late to our appointment, texting me that she was late just a few minutes before, while I was already parking. When I told her and the salon owner, Jolene Dittmar, that my scalp was burned, neither took responsibility. Trena want to do yet another correction, which of course I refused. I wasn't going to let her hurt me again. Jolene three weeks later after much back and forth, said she would refund my $200. She did not. She also complained to me that Trena was hard to talk to due to her personality, so she couldn't address it with Trena. My scalp burned for four days, I had sores all over it for three weeks, and it finally is mostly healed now four weeks later. I've never written a bad review of a salon, and certainly never complained. I'm 59 years old, a retired school teacher, I have colored my hair all my adult life, and I NEVER had a scalp problem before. I am reporting to the Cosmetology board and to the state Consumer protection department. Here's exactly what happened: * I booked a full cut, color, and style appointment for warm dark blonde - auburn color. My wavy hair was just longer than my shoulders. I did not have bangs or layers. The color was a light ash blond. We had a text consultation in advance. * Trena changed the appointment time at the last minute, when I was finding parking for the appointment. * Made me wait even longer while she took a consult (non paying!) client. In all, she was about 45 minutes late starting my appointment. She then seemed to have forgetten everything about our text consultation. * Trena left the salon for over 30 minutes while the chemicals were processing, instead of staying and checking on it. * Trena overprocessed the coloring because she was not in the salon, and it was bright orange--the color I said multiple times I wanted to avoid at all costs. I wanted a warm dark blond / brown. It's not auburn or copper or caramel. Day glow orange. Trena reacted very nervously and said we could correct it with a second darker color. * Trena tried to tell me I didn't need a cut, but then said she'd trim following the preexisting lines. She then fushed the cut (spent literally two to three minutes on it) and chopped several very short chunks totally unevenly. The right side ended up with chunks 3-4 inches shorter. One area has a chunk that is 6-8 inches shorter (at my ear level). * Trena then told me to style it myself at the end (!). She seems to be rushing me out. (She probably was.) I ended up leaving with my hair still wet, after sitting (mostly alone) in the salon for three hours. * Did not wash out the dye completely. It was 45 minutes while I drove home, plus 15 minutes in the salon. My scalp was burning. * I washed out dye when I got home. It was absolutely dye, not just normal washout from the hair. I scraped dye off my scalp. * My scalp developed a dozen or more sores from the chemical burn. These did not heal until three weeks later. I only used shampoo twice in that time. I did apply Cera Vie every other day to the scalp (dermatologist recommended). Also, the salon is not spa like at all. Normally, I don't care what a place looks like, but their website very much misrepresents the place. Not only do they NOT STAND BEHIND their work, it is an sparse, uncomfortable environment. I'm 5'4" and if you are shorter, your head won't reach the sinks. Jolene later said they adjust, Trena said they did not adjust, but either way, no one bothered to adjust for me and they were both there during my fiasco. I will try to add a few photos. Price $200+ Stylist Trena Hair Master or Hair Wizard Ansari Yelp is not letting me add photos, but I will do so. I am sure they will write a review using character assassination. Trena basically told me I was lying, Jolene told me she'd refund my $200 and did not, and tried to claim it was an allergic reaction even though I've dyed my hair 40 years without ever having a reaction. They refused to take any responsibility. Not even an apology, though there was a check in by Jolene three weeks later. Note, I am a normal 59 year old, who has never written a review like this, a retired teacher, and I only want to keep others from being hurt. It's now four weeks later, and I still have three sores but mostly healed. read more

* Beware, your time is not valued here. What I am hearing in your response is that because the consultation is 15 minutes and complimentary, it is acceptable to change or adjust it as needed. Not one, two, or three times but as your company wants. Got it! My concern is that, regardless of whether the consultation was free, I still secured my appointment as requested with a credit card and set aside my time in good faith. From a client's perspective, a scheduled appointment is still a commitment, and repeated last-minute changes make it feel as though the client's time is less valued. If the situation were reversed and I had made multiple same-day changes or cancellations, I would have been subject to a fee. That difference in expectations is what I found frustrating and ultimately led to my decision to cancel. This is not about the consultation itself, but about mutual respect for time and consistency in how scheduling policies are applied. read more

Trena is so amazing at what she does. I'm so happy I found her! She is not only very knowledgeable but her attention to detail shows that she really cares to take her time with her clients. I came to her earlier this summer after looking for a new stylist. She was very honest on what to expect and how we can achieve it. Not only did she customize my color but also explained each step during the process. My hair is naturally very thick and I have a lot of it. During the haircut she explained the trick to layering my hair due to these factors and was able to blend my previous layers which weren't done well by a previous stylist. For my first visit she was able to take out all of the brassy color and lighten it. She customized the toner color and it came out beautiful. This most recent visit she was able to implement some bleaching on the ends to help tackle the slight brassy color from what I had left (from previous coloring with someone else). That along with a partial balayage has revived my hair :) Not only is she great at her work but her personality is amazing as well. The hours we spent during my appointment flew by. Trena is a magical hair wizard, an 11 out of 10. She is nothing short of amazing. Trena took my damaged over processed home done lavender mop that embarrassingly hadn't seen a pro since before Covid hit, and turned it into something that I thought was a goal picture I sent her. I honestly didn't even recognize my own hair, she is that good. I'm super picky on stylists and she did things I've never seen before. Trena was so careful with the damaged portions of my hair, honest and up front about what could be done, and she took genuine pride in her work. With the power of Yelp, I was able to find a salon and spa that does it all with friendly and down to earth folks! I moved to the Tacoma area a year prior during this crazy pandemic, and have been itching to do something with my hair. I read their mission statements and looked through their services and photos, and FINALLY made a move to make a reservation. They were about two and a half weeks booked at that moment, but they offer standby slots if you want to put yourself on the waiting list. You simply select the date and time range. If there's a cancellation, you'll be notified via text message or phone call. I thought that was pretty cool. The day of my appointment, I parked in the back where there's a parking lot. You can also park in the street if there is availability. I walked in and was immediately greeted by Jolene, who was also the gal doing my hair. Coffee, water, or tea is offered as well. I came in for a full balayage, a cut, and get my roots touched up. Jolene graciously went over my options after I showed her a photo of what I wanted. She also answered any questions I had concerning the process, and it went smooth sailing from there. A good mix of music was playing throughout the salon, there wasn't much of a dull moment as there was plenty to talk about, and everything was clean and organized. At least from what I noticed after being there for a few hours. Prices are decently fair considering what you will be getting done. You can easily make a reservation online or over the phone. I'd recommend trying to reserve a slot maybe 3 weeks in advance at the minimum. Don't forget the waiting list option if you are flexible. Over all, I can't complain about Willow. The folks that came in seemed like they've been coming for years and have become loyal customers. Kudos to Jolene for doing wonders for my hair and bringing it back to life. I have not actually been here. As a first time client, I was really looking forward to coming here and getting my hair cut and eyebrows done. I moved from Seattle in April and was paying $200 for hair service (cut and color) and close to $100 for waxing. I was excited about the breadth of services and reasonable prices. I waited over two weeks for my appointment, and then... I woke up this morning with a horrible cold and called the Salon first thing after I woke up feeling like poo (around 6am) I took a nap this afternoon to see that I'd missed a call from the salon letting me know that they're charging me anyway for missing the appointment even though they are aware I'm sick. It would appear that the preference would have been that I keep my appointment because I hadn't called to cancel within their 12 hour time period, sick or not. So, they're losing what could have been a long term client over $42.50. I spend about $6500 a year on spa and salon services. I'll do that this year, too, as long as things remain open. I just won't spend it at Willow. Now I'm going back to bed. read more

I was a little on edge finding a new lash tech since my last one moved states; I mean anyone would because it's glue near your eyeballs. But let me tell you, it's great, quality work. Omg! I'm in love with Ashley! She truly is magical. I came to her after having a very bad experience at another salon. Not only did she make me feel super at easy about things from the very beginning, but she was soooo sweet. She made sure I was comfortable the entire time, walk me through every step of the way, actually listen to what I wanted and provided me with that service and gave me a amazing final result that I'm 100% happy with. The reviews looked good so I thought this would be a safe place to go before my vacation. Three salons later and spending $380 for a fix to an initial $130 balayage ($500+ w/ tips), my hair is just starting to get back to some normalcy. First off, I liked the stylist as a person (Mandy?) and the owner quickly responded to my unhappiness the following day by asking if I wanted it fixed for free, which I did and gave me the choice to see somebody else (I should have but felt like the stylist deserved a second chance). I am so mad at myself. I couldn't find the words to say how disappointed and upset I felt, especially after the second time. But I was leaving the same day for my vacation in NZ so I sucked it up. I haven't written a review in awhile and now, I feel obligated to in case I can save anybody else the problems that I had. I RARELY dye my hair and usually go to White Lodge up in Seattle every other year to Richard or when I get my cuts from Todd. My hair was so healthy and now it's a total mess. I was leaving for a trip out of the country and wore it up in a ponytail until the last week because it looked awful. 2 weeks later, I went to Vivo salon in Queenstown and spent about 5 hours to dye the roots back to my natural color (I got 1990's chunky random colors up to my part). It was lighter on one side than the other and was a mixture of blonde, orange and brassy so she tried to fix as much of the individual strands as possible. I finally went to see Grace at Mod's Salon in Christchurch to finalize the color, especially all the color in front around my face to actually caramel. Because of the different colors, toner made the front strand dull. Grace was able to fix most of the color so here I am! Finally at home wishing that I had never spent the initial $130 and ruined my healthy hair and had to dye it 3x in 1 month. read more

I got my hair dyed here last September and, it being my first experience coloring my hair, I didn't know what to expect. So... NINE bleaches later, an empty salon, and the sunset long gone, I was naively compliant. I walked out with a head that looked like Grape Kool-aid, absolutely unlike the lavender I showed the stylist. She told me it would fade into the color I wanted, and that is just how fashion colors go, so I didn't think to complain. I just went home and stressed out over how I'd pull bright purple off at work the next morning... I obviously have never returned. When I went to another stylist to please help fix the big yellow spot on the back of my head a week later, she educated me about how it's SUPPOSED to go. Her jaw dropped when I told her how many bleaches my hair had endured in one evening (over 4 hours), the contrast between what my hair WAS and the picture of what I had ASKED for, and we went through a long process over months of carefully getting my hair the way I wanted it. Some pros: I was offered coffee and tea many times during my appointment, as well as a variety of magazines. Also, the staff were very friendly. I have no complaints about customer service. TLDR: Do not get fashion colors done here! It is NOT a specialty of theirs. read more

I saw a level one stylist as she was the only available appointment during the day I wanted to get in. I had pictures of myself with a previous hair cut I loved, communicated that I didn't generally use product and let my hair air dry. I said I didn't need it dried and styled with waves, I really do prefer to see how it's going to be looking on a normal day, but she did it. It looked nice and bouncy, so although it wasn't as short as I'd asked for in the back, figured it looked good how it was styled, and I'd work to get it closer to what I wanted next time. I got home, took a closer look and saw some serious unevenness. I took out the wave she'd put in and found that instead of a nice clean angle from back to front, it looked like somebody took a big bite out of my hair a few inches back, as well as shortening the front when I'd asked for it to stay the same length. I'm pretty unhappy with the results. _________________________________________________________ Update: Jolene, the owner had me come in to take a look. She spent her time asking what I wanted and gave me a fantastic cut. Because I had to lose a bit more of the front it's less punk/more classy than I wanted, but I think I'll try again once it grows out. read more

However, I should have known better because she did not show me how my hair looked after coloring and cut, like usually stylist do before they style it! My hair looks choppy cut on my left front and if I would want to do a half pony tail up, I wouldn't be able cause my hair on the bottom half looks pitty. And Im heart broken cause I spend money and time thinking I would have chosen the right place. Again, $220 bayalage should look qualitywise different! She made me feel validated and important even though it was more work for her. She cares deeply about the client-stylist relationship and that absolutely shines through in her work; as does her vast knowledge in her profession. She was personable, understanding and accommodating in every way. She definitely gained a client for life! The salon is beautifully kept and so clean! They were very organized and I felt welcome as soon as I walked in. Pricing is reasonable, especially with the amount of talented stylists the salon offers: You know you're getting what you pay for! Okay so it's a bit of a story. Long story short GO HERE! Specifically, Mandy. Backstory, I have done my hair for years and damaged it so much. It's broken in half dozens of times. I know the whole drill, and I live in Los Angeles. So my expectations were not fair, but I also was used to completely different client treatment when I'm in LA. (Tend to be judgey) I went here for my first time a few days ago, after getting my hair done at a Salon in Seattle. The stylist at the other salon, had cut my hair pretty short and choppy as well as giving me a very harsh foil line with extreme stripes! Attached are some reference photos I showed both stylists. Any hair colour from the other salon, is captioned that it's from a diff salon. Any other photo is after Mandy did her magic. She was so sweet and firm with me. I signed an agreement that I knew I would lose length and I could have hair breakage. She advised me to use Olaplex, which I've used previously and always loved it. The extra treatment was only $25 add on. She was super respectful and understanding of my budget. I told her my budget and she didn't push any products on me or bat an eye. She was super kind and gentle w my ego because as anyone knows, getting your hair messed up SUCKS. And sometimes it's so scary and anxiety inducing to walk into a nice salon with a trash head and ask them for help. She sat me down and explained exactly what she had planned to fix the debacle my previous stylist created. She told me after, "dont colour your hair for 6months! Okay?!" And made me pinky swear her. So you could say, she's the sweetest stylist I've ever had. She was basically a therapist! We had very chill conversations about life and the different cities, and I was anxious at all during the whole time. And she didn't talk my head off at the same time which was a relief! Mandy was amazing and so sweet, very patient and talented. I was truly shocked when she swivelled my chair around at the end of the day. Going in I thought I'd have to have half of it chopped and pay 300 bucks. I was so grateful, the full foil was about 169 I believe and then the 25 for the Olaplex. I could only tip her $19 and I feel so bad bc she saved my life, I was so upset and depressed to go into a new decade feeling like shit about myself. 10/10 would recommend, she kept refilling my tea without judging either haha!! read more

I haven't gotten my hair cut in over two years. My hair grew a ton and it's hard for me to trust stylists due to that one bad stylist we all had years ago that chopped it off the way they wanted. I found this sweet spot on yelp. I called and made with an appointment with the best stylist, and I got blessed with Brie. The neighborhood is cute, the salon was very welcoming, comfortable, and the experience was uplifting. 3 years ago my hair was butchered by a moron in Portland. I asked for a bang trim, she buzzed my sides and gave me a tail. It was horrific and until I met Kayla I thought it was the worst cut of my life. I was wrong. I babied my hair until it was finally grown out enough to chop off the last two inches of tail and have normal hair again! A friend recommended Kayla. My friend has the same naturally curly, fine,thick hair I do so I thought this would work out, especially when Kayla claims that she has over 12 years doing hair. I accept the blame here as I failed to ask exactly WHAT she was doing to it. Please refer to the photo I uploaded, as a picture paints this nightmare far more brilliantly than mere words. I needed a small shaping to my now long, ombre red hair, and a color touch-up as it was fading. Here is what this means on Kayla's planet: 1. She took thinning shears to the back of my head, literally thinning out the weight - for no reason as I CLEARLY do not layer the back of my head. 2. She over-thinned my sides from the ears forward until they are 1 inch short in spots. Also, they are not even and there is a large chunk missing off the right side that I get to hide now. 3. I'm so very happy I came back for a second chance because Karena was absolutely wonderful and understood the assignment to a capital T. My first experience here unfortunately wasn't the greatest. Jolene cut my hair beautifully, but due to some miscommunication ended up dying my hair in a style I was not at all satisfied or happy with. After hearing about how unhappy I left, Jolene reached out very quickly and found a time to have someone else dye my hair in the style I was looking for. Within a week I was back in the chair with Karena and had the most wonderful experience. After showing her pictures of what I was wanting to achieve with a few modifications I was looking for, she got to work quickly and the results were so so so beautiful. Shame on me, I came in off of the Yelp app and was sorely disappointed! I sprung for more money that was supposed to equal more experience. Ha! Karena gave me the worst hair cut I have ever had in my 54 years!!
