Upon entering for my appointment the two gals that I engaged with were very welcoming. I believe the gal that checked me in was Megan and the other gal I forget her name but she has red hair with cute bangs in a ponytail who was letting me know not to worry about the hour parking in front of the salon. My advice to those new to the salon is to get there early as parking is limited in the front and the ample parking would be across the street or in the residential area. Now let me get to my stylist who wow'ed me. This was my second time around with this stylist. Backstory I met Shawn Babauta at JCPenny as I went in to get a haircut and she mentioned she was moving to Dolce Salon which was the best decision she made as well as for Dolce Salon to add an amazing stylist to their team. Shawn is so talented and the thing I love about Shawn when I first met her was she listened to what my concerns were and what my inspiration was. Also Shawn gives good feedback on styles that compliment your face and how much work a certain style would be for example bangs. That's a plus for me because not many stylists listen or give you that type of feedback. When it comes to a long term stylist I feel that not only are their talents a plus but also vibing with them is important. Shawn I'm so happy my husband found you on social media because moving here due to a military move is always a bit rough. Not one, two, or three times but as your company wants. Got it! My concern is that, regardless of whether the consultation was free, I still secured my appointment as requested with a credit card and set aside my time in good faith. From a client's perspective, a scheduled appointment is still a commitment, and repeated last-minute changes make it feel as though the client's time is less valued. If the situation were reversed and I had made multiple same-day changes or cancellations, I would have been subject to a fee. That difference in expectations is what I found frustrating and ultimately led to my decision to cancel. This is not about the consultation itself, but about mutual respect for time and consistency in how scheduling policies are applied.

Sharon has been cutting my hair for the past 3 or 4 years. Till she moved back to the states (we are still overseas, while all you CONUS folks get her back!!!) I have never, ever had a wash, cut and style that turned out better. I didn't even have to take in a picture, she looked at me, listened to me and an hour later, BAM! I was transformed from NO style to a PERFECT style. If you are lucky enough to get in with her, take the opportunity. You will not be disappointed. I love this place! We go to Sharon, she works on sundays. Place is nicely decorated, modern and clean. When WE went on a sunday there were no other stylists there, but it was nice, quiet and relaxing. Perfect for her. I also have issues with my hair reacting to humidity (frizzling out, etc) but Kim gave me a glaze which has made such a difference with how my hair handles the constantly changing PNW humidity levels. I trust Kim to take my loose description of what I am looking for as an end result (even though I know nothing about the terminology of hair styling) and translate it into reality. Kim is also super cool and fun to talk to, which just adds to her charm! I'm excited to go see her again in a few weeks to maintain the short hairstyle she gave me, which is still getting complements weeks after she cut it.

When I tried to ask for a full/partial refund she refused because she claimed she used up a lot of her time and product but hey get this, she asks to fix it. So... you won't give me my refund but offer to fix my hair which will use up more time and product when you can give me my refund and it'll SAVE BOTH our time and more of your damn product-- which wasn't even that much considering I only literally had like 4 blonde pieces in my hair. You offering to fix my hair is not enough because what makes you think I will trust you to touch my hair again after the first time around? I let her know literally the same week that I don't like my hair so she offered to fix it. She never hits me up to schedule me, instead she posts her last minute availability on IG instead of asking me first if I was available to come in to fix my hair. There was NO effort whatsoever to try to fix my hair. I asked about that availability and she says it's been filled so I tell her to just lmk her soonest. I get NO reply for going on TWO WEEKS and at that point I would rather find someone else who knows what they're doing and could do what I ask for so that's why I asked for my damn refund. After a little heated conversation, she just stops replying-- how professional right? She should've gotten it right the first time or at least close to it. I've been blonde before so I know how my hair is but unfortunately it is obvious you don't what you're doing and also possess THE WORST customer service from any hair dresser I've ever received so I will definitely not be coming back or recommending anyone to her.

I gave her these inspiration photos and it came out nothing like I wanted. I'm a bit upset because she said the $50 deposit for the appointment to be booked would go into my total but she still charged me 250 (paid 300 total) and my hair is TWO different colors (I wanted blonde highlights at the tips but it came out two different shades of red/dark orange. I just want to warn anyone else because I had no idea from the good reviews! Please be aware!! Response to Reply: She told me about my hair not lifting to blonde after she already bleached my whole hair. I believe there should've been a patch test before going through with the style. After my hair didn't lift she tried bleaching again with still not the right result. She never told me to come back for another session to get my final result but said to come back if the copper fades after a while. The reason I left saying it looked nice is because it was styled and harder to see (because it was curled) and only found out when I went out to dinner that night and someone pointed out the difference in color. She also had company over during purchase which made it intimidating to say anything about not getting what I wanted because I was alone. After this review was posted she responded to my message of giving back my 50 dollar deposit but says she will not refund me (not even partial for not liking the style she did on my hair) and will only do another appointment. In the end, my hair costed $250 for a style that is not what I wanted. I did have red hair before but have not had it redone for a long time (so it was fading). Update: Never got my appointment reservation money back.

If you…read morehave time to read, here is my long winded review (go to the last paragraph to skip the back story leading up to my appointment): I have been wearing my hair colored since 1996. I am of mixed ethnicities - my mother is Vietnamese and my father is Black. My natural hair color is jet black (blue-black in the sun) and I have type 3b curly hair. I am very particular about my hair and I don't trust just anyone to color my hair. As a matter of fact, in the 24 years that it's been colored, only 3 people have colored it. The original guy in Detroit who first colored it, my prior stylist here in Washington, and then my current stylist in California (I moved to Cali in 2006). I usually get my roots touched up every 6-8 weeks and I get blonde highlights in the spring and summer months. Due to COVID-19, salons in Cali still have not been able to open for coloring (only for outdoor haircuts) and it's been 6 months since my last appointment. My hair is so dark and needs 40 volume to be lifted, so it has to be done professionally. I was desperately waiting for my stylist to get approval to open. I had about 4.5 inches of root growth and it was driving me crazy! I ended up having to go to Seattle with my sister for a quick weekend to take care of some business up there. Since Washington salons were open, I had the great idea of going back to my prior stylist in Gig Harbor. I was so happy about the option to go back to her, but it turns out she was on vacation on the dates I was coming to town. I was so bummed and complained to my other sister who lives in Tacoma and owns a hot yoga studio there. She knows that I was apprehensive about letting someone new color my hair. I told her that I might take a chance and try Gene Juarez and asked her opinion about that. She told me that one of her yoga students owned a salon and suggested I go to her instead. That student was Amy, owner of Virde Salon. My sis checked with Amy, but she was booked solid on my dates (which was only 2.5 weeks away) and she referred me to Chelsea. Amy assured my sis that Chelsea was good and would take good care of me. Thankfully, I was able to book a spot on Chelsea's calendar for Friday, 8/14, and then I reached out to her via text, after checking out her work on her IG page, to inquire about a phone consultation before coming in. She had replied that she preferred to communicate via text, but she could do a phone call if I preferred. I was thankful that she was willing to do a call because I really needed to discuss my hair needs and my nervousness about going to someone new. I was fine going to text communication after the initial call. On the phone call, she was very pleasant and seemed very knowledgeable about her craft so I felt more at ease about coming in. The day of my appointment, I arrived at the salon, excited and nervous at the same time. I immediately felt comfortable with Chelsea. We hit it off with conversation like she had been my stylist for years. She made me feel at ease by explaining what she was doing throughout my appointment. I learned some stuff I didn't even know about color that day! Chelsea colored my roots, put in highlights, and trimmed my ends. I explained to her that at home, I usually left the salon with wet hair and let my curls dry naturally. She asked if she could diffuse my hair so that she could make sure that the color match was correct (and so she could make any needed corrections immediately), because if I left with wet hair, I wouldn't see the true color until the next day after it dried and she didn't want the color to be off. I had a bad experience with diffusion before and I didn't want that. She then offered to blow dry and flat iron my hair. I was so excited about this option because my current stylist doesn't blow dry/flat iron my hair. I think it's because I have so much hair, and it's thick. Honestly, it's been over 14 years now so I don't even know the full reason any more, she just doesn't do it. I haven't had my hair flat ironed professionally in probably 25 years! Chelsea said that it was important to her that the client has the full salon experience, which includes walking out the salon feeling transformed. Well, let me tell you, I got the full experience that day! My color was absolutely gorgeous and Chelsea got my hair so straight and it was stunning! I got soooo many compliments from friends and family and strangers all week! I felt so beautiful leaving the salon. I couldn't have asked for a better experience! Chelsea did some sort of magic in my hair, because it stayed perfectly straight for a full week, and I only need to lightly run a flat iron over it 2 times in that week. I am so glad to have found Chelsea, and if California salons don't open up for a while longer and I happen to need to go up to Seattle, I'm definitely going to see her again.
