Under the Pier on Route 13, Tullytown, is located only a few hundred yards from the Delaware River, the manmade Van Sciver Lake and historic Pennsbury Manor, the summer home of William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania. So, while there is no actual nearby pier, this area is very wet and full of earthen dams and dikes, and is a great place for fishing and hunting. This rustic restaurant has been around for decades in the hands of the same family. When we arrived at 6 p.m. the dining room was full but for the recently cleared table which we quickly took. Lori was our server. She was great from start to finish. We started with their small styro bowl of Crab Bisque. It was thick and tasty, and perhaps a tad salty. Liked it. I followed that with English style Fish & Chips, and my friend went with Fried Stuffed Flounder and Breaded Eggplant. I think mine was made with cod. With a splash of Heinz malt vinegar the taste and texture were decent, but not what I devoured visiting England. The coined potato medallions were very good dipped in tartar sauce. The stuffed flounder seemed prefabricated and frozen rather than fresh and made in their kitchen. It was not what we were hoping for. The atmosphere of Under the Pier was actually the better part of the experience. Maybe their oysters and other locally sourced crustaceans are the better way to go to avoid freezer boredom. Under the Pier took me a little by surprise. I was told to come here for great seafood, specifically the oysters. I wasn't sure sure what to expect from the exterior but the recommendation was spot on. First tip, bring cash! CASH ONLY! The oysters are huge. No grit. The homemade cocktail sauce is so good. I really liked the fried clams and fried shrimp, I would ask for everything extra crispy. The clams could have had a few extra minutes in the fryer. My friend said the Bloody Mary wasn't the best but at $6.50 it was quite the deal. This is a very casual spot. If you are looking for fancy this isn't for you. What you will find is paper plates and baskets filled with delicious economically priced seafood. read more

Maybe at some point there was a pier that they were under but it, along with any nearby water, has long disappeared! Its location is on Route 13 in Levittown and the closest water must be a few miles away, but I digress... If you're looking for an old fashioned down the shore feeling seafood restaurant, this is it! (When was the last time you had Oyster Crackers?) The menu is fairly large and we both were in the mood for some fried platters. Both were very large, inexpensive and very good. The Fried Shrimp Plate had 6 large butterflied shrimp with a tasty fried coating along with "sea chips" (fried round cuts of potatoes) and slaw. The Shore Dinner had an assortment of fried flounder, crab cake, clam cake, fried oyster fried shrimp along with the sea chips and slaw. I don't think they take reservations and there was a short wait on a Friday night for a table. They do have cocktails as well as beer ( some on tap) Cash only. Date night location - no. Its cash only, the parking is difficult. The soup is big canned condensed soup, reheated. Every thing comes out of the freezer and not fresh. The lobster tank is gross. We had take out after the Eagles game. We ordered shrimp platters and flounder. It was so moist and flavorful. The chips are crisp on the outside and soft pillowy inside. **CASH ONLY** We were looking for a place not to far off the turnpike. There is a sign along the main road, but the restaurant is so tiny that it can be easily missed. Very tiny, seating for about 20, and honestly, I was sure what to expect. This place is definitely a local spot. Don't expect anything fancy, soup and salad was served in plastic dish ware, but don't let that keep you away. Service was prompt, polite and quick. The crab bisque was full of crab, calamari wasn't over fried and the fish & chips tasted fresh. Also nicely fried and light breading. Not overpriced and good food. Recently ordered for my birthday and was very disappointed. I love the clam cakes, but they are not the same as they used to be not only in size but taste as well. The chips they need to get rid of they always wind up going in the trash because they are soggy. I don't know if they change or what but it was beyond disappointing. Great food my father used to take me there years ago and he was born in the year 1913 and was an excellent cook himself and would not just eat anywhere and I still go there to today the people that work there are very friendly and helpful and the food is always excellent I love the broiled platters they have and everything on there menu is very good never had a bad experience there ever read more

I was in the mood for shrimp and potato fries and we go to UNDER THE PIER in Levittown are best. My husband called and whoever picked up the phone to take our order was the most ignorant man, my husband asked for potato fries and he said they haven't had them in 6 months and we asked him another question and his response was, like I said we don't have them. We still ordered $30.00 worth of food. I went to pick up our food and I am assuming the man who takes orders was leaning against the wall, I was just making conversation and said something about the fries and his response back to me was, like I said to the man on the phone, we haven't had them in 6 months. Again, I was just making conversation not complaining. I got my order and was paying the girl who put everything together. FYI, I gave her a tip, she was very sociable and helpful. So I left and said to myself this will be the last time I order from under from UNDER THE PIER they will never get my money again, if he was the owner or manager maybe he should send himself to a customer service seminar, sorry for my rant but just wanted to let you know if you ordering from them beware of the ignorance of the man on the other side of the phone for taking your orders. This used to be really good and reliable for great seafood. The last 2 times we were there, they were out of everything that I tried to order. The lettuce in my house salad was brown. I will give it one more try but only after I call ahead to make sure they actually have the crab bisque. read more

No pier anywhere near, but no fear, here, dear. Delicious fishes! Popped in on a whim, quickly over the menu my eyes did skim. Then, again, our sweet natured server didn't dilly dally or dither, rather she made sure to point out the lunch specials. Heck yes they're special!! We sipped tasty fresh (not sweet) black ice tea and nibbled (ok more like crunch crunched!) old school stule oyster crackers (round and hard as marbles) while waiting for our broiled cod plates. When they came out, the plates were dangerously, blissfully piping searing hot as can be. The fish was a good size piece, about the size of my size 6 hand. Garnish was a 3 oz cup of dreamy, white n creamy coleslaw. Heavenly side is the house chips. Wow what are these, who dreamed them up, fabricated, created them is a friar saint. They must be cooked apart from the fried fish cause they had no nasty fishy taste. They were perfection, hot, thin, crispy heaven. Our server was a sweetpea. The restroom is tiny and clean, and most of all - lunch for two with a hefty tip was just $20 (Cash Only!) Oh and you can take away, cooked or not yet so (fresh prepped) Come back? Heck yes! We were here years ago. It's not stellar, but the place is small, clean, and does what is says it does. It offers shell fish (oysters, lobster tails, clams, no shell crab), fish and seafood platters, either breaded and fried or broiled. Another reviewer complained there are no specialties, like blackened or healthy choices. Well, this ain't the place. It's not gourmet. It's your basic dinner-type, mom and pop Americana seafood place with reasonable prices and really sweet waitpersons. Snobs need not apply. What I did notice is it didn't smell fishy or "funky" like some other low priced places. They also sell cocktails and wine, very reasonable. People seemed to enjoy themselves and we did, too. Hubby had a cup of clam chowder and fried clams as appies. And given he scrapped the bottom of his bowl, I'll say that was two thumbs up. The clams were golden and fresh but could have used more seasoning. We both had fried platters. Both included their crabby fries. Which I thought would be potato chips with Old Bay, but were little mini sliced fried potatoes. Actually, pretty good. Mine included a lobster tail, fried oysters, two fried butterfly shrimp and two cakes - crab and oyster for $19.95. Hubby's was the same sans a lobster tail. We filled up on too much breading. Next time we'll do broiled instead. I had two glasses of Merlot (no Chardonnay!),and one Tom Collins ($6.50) because I've never had one before. It was pretty good. I also ordered oyster soup to go. Cash only. They sell gift coupons, which I actually bought for Hubby's upcoming birthday ($20). They serve cocktails (2 shots they emphasize on the menu), wine (for some reason not listed on the menu), and beer. My recommendation is bring some Old Bay hidden in your purse and stick with broiled as the breading is heavy. As usual Mark and I split an entree. He had the crab bisque and I had the oyster stew to start and then we had the soft shelled crab. My stew was great. Six plump oysters in a buttery broth. What's not to love? I thought the bisque could have used some salt but Mark thought it was great. He did add a dollop of their amazing horseradish. The soft shelled crab was good, but I thought their batter overwhelmed it. (There was a lot of batter.) Well priced and good food. And yes, it's a dive, but a good one. read more

Unfortunately the best part was the sea salt chips and the douchbag cook knew the scallops were over done because the waitress/hostess/bartender/IDK where he went asked me if the scallops were overdone..me being nice, lied as I tried not to choke or throw up these damn things. I came here because the reviews on Google seemed really good. However, I should've checked Yelp first. Didn't like the food and won't be coming back. Ordered fried scallops with chips and slaw. The scallops were overdone, almost burnt. The guy cooking them knew this because it seems that he asked the host to ask us if they were too overdone. My friend lied and said no because we just wanted to get out of there! If I knew the price of the food, I would've told her to tell the truth - $22 for some of the worst seafood I've ever had. The scallops were rubbery and overcooked from the inside out and weren't drained properly... grease soaked up the plate completely. They really just tasted God awful. Like old, dirty oil was used to fry frozen scallops. I actually started looking for a new place to eat as I was sitting in there, and found a place in Burlington, NJ that I went to after this. The best part of the meal was the "sea chips," which were just fries in the circular shape of potato chips. They weren't seasoned at all, but that was an easy fix. They were delicious. "Good Stuff...This is Bucks County...Levittown..no doubt. aint montauk, aint new england...but the best you going to get round here....And worthy of putting on rotation if you are a local." Hence, Under the Pier will be on our rotation as finding a good seafood in landlocked PA (a as in not along the Atlantic) has proven to be a challenge unless your in Philly or hit an expensive restaurant that will disguise seafood in sauces and melted cheese. Under the Pier serves it up the way it was meant to be enjoyed. Following an afternoon at the Roebeling Factory (Roebeling NJ) for the museum tour and car show we decided to try this place with mid-level expectations. Glad we did. First off we don't eat fried foods, so this review is about non-fried foods. That said, we did start with one deviation, the fried eggplant which, while fried, was not greasy or oily. With their horseradish sauce was actually quite tasty. Unfortunately due to lack of demand, Under the Pier, has stopped buying lobster; so no lobster on the menu. Instead my wife had the stuffed broiled stuffed shrimp (5 piece) with crab stuffing, was really good. Very light and tasty. I ordered the 1lb. Dungeness crab, was prepared just right. The meat was full of flavor and plentiful. Dipped in the drawn butter and enjoyed some of their sea chips (lightly fried, but surprisingly not greasy or oily. Cole slaw was a nice side complement to the crab. Easy to open and pull the meat right out. They prepare then quarter the crab for easy of digging in. We had been going here for a little while now because when I was young, my parents took us here over 30 years ago. Boy has it changed, the same waitress we had last time is a chronic complainer. Every time we go she cries about being the only one there, and tells everyone constantly how stressed out she is. my husband asked for his lobster tail to be broiled instead of steamed, she had to ask the cook who is also the owner. There were only 6 tables of people and NOT busy and the owner said no he can't. What is that? u broiled the rest of the platter but can't that!!!! Won't be going back there. read more
