We're regulars who came to celebrate our anniversary and left disappointed. The seafood is still the highlight; the black cod is excellent and the kitchen clearly knows what it's doing. But the service was frankly poor. We waited endlessly for a takeout box and had to track down a different server to get one. The ice bucket arrived barely filled. The dessert looked like an afterthought, nothing close to what you'd expect at this price point. The only thing that came fast was the check. At $152 (before tip) for two entrees, a salad, an app, and one forgettable dessert, the value just isn't there when the service is this slack. This little BYOB is the jewel in the crown in Princeton. The simple preparations of the freshest fish was a sheer delight. The selection of oysters was very impressive. I had the mixed grill which was a delicious Thresher shark and steelhead trout in a simple beurre blanc with capers. The menu changes daily depending on what looks good and fresh that day. I was surprised to see paper tablecloths, and the tables are set very close together, which took away from the fine-dining atmosphere they seem to be aiming for. The food was hit or miss. The calamari was the standout, fresh, well-prepared, and genuinely enjoyable. Unfortunately, the risotto wasn't anything memorable, and the black cod, while decent overall, was a bit greasy and not something I'd rave about, especially considering the price point. Service was generally good and attentive, though I did ask for a drink refill that never arrived. One definite plus was the small parking lot in the back for patrons, I was able to get a spot, which made the visit much less stressful. They have options that I don't regularly see at other restaurants such as monkfish, swordfish, corvina, and Arctic char. They still have your basics like salmon, lobster tail, shrimp, and oysters. Each entree also includes a side of your choice. We ordered... *Grilled Calamari $16 - I'm a fried calamari girly, so I didn't expect to love the grilled version as much as I did. This appetizer was 5 stars alone! The texture was firm and chewy. Miss me with that rubbery nonsense. *Bronzini Francaise with side of french fries $42 - This entree was a Mediterranean seabass with citrus mustard cream sauce. The meat was tender, flaky, and semi-sweet which paired well with the sauce. The fries were nice and crispy! *Florida Red Snapper with side of garlic mashed potatoes $49 - This was highly recommended by our server and I can see why! The red snapper was perfectly seasoned and had a mild, but sweet taste. You can tell how fresh it was. The garlic mashed potatoes were delishhhhhhh! *Key Lime Pie $11 - Perfect flavor profile that combined tartness and sweetness. Not only was the entire meal amazing from start to finish, but so was the service. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and made excellent recommendations. Came here for restaurant week and they had a prefix menu so you got to pick from a lot of different options-- had the seafood ciopinno, jalepeno lime shrimp and tiramisu for dessert. Everything was very fresh. ALL of the seafood. I just prefer spicy food so I do wish the jalepeno shrimp was more spicy than sweet but regardless it was still good. The service is fast and they were really nice to seat me last minute. I hear the oysters are great-- didn't get to try. read more

The Blue Point Grill was an extraordinary experience. Street parking could be tricky so, make sure that you pull into their parking lot, adjacent to the building. The restaurant is nicely decorated, the tables are comfortably spaced apart, and I was impressed with the warm covered outdoor seating. There were plenty of customers enjoying this seating. I have to start by mentioning how awesome our server, Gustavo, treated us. He gave great recommendations, answered our questions in detail, and made the meal comfortable and memorable. We started with one of my favorite appetizers, Grilled Calamari. The calamari was absolutely delicious, the firmness was optimal, and the lemony sauce added to the perfect selection for a starter. Since this is a "seafood" restaurant, we chose two seafood entrees. The first was the Florida Red Snapper, with garlic mashed potatoes ($49.00). The second was the Bronzini Filet Francaise, with fries ($42.00). I cannot commend both of these dishes, enough. Both were succulent, flaky, perfectly seasoned, and delicious. Both are highly recommended. For dessert, we shared the Sweet Mama's Key Lime Pie ($11.00) and, once again, it was a wonderful choice. It was adorned with a blackberry and two dollops of whipped cream. Another highly recommended item. I capped off the meal with my favorite, Double Espresso ($6.00), with a side of cold milk. The pesto crusted wolffish with fava beans is a good and unique creation - the texture and flavors working well together. The blackened seabass had the right amount of kick and crispiness. Fries were thin, yet crunchy on the outside and soft inside. 3 stars primarily for the price & shrimp. While understand seafood is expensive and in Princeton prime location prices would be higher, the sea bass preparation, which was more like street food was priced at $52 and the Wolf Fish came out as a sophisticated dish was priced at $38. Extraordinarily disappointing dinner tonight ... our go-to for celebrating and entertaining family and out-of-town guests ... what a horrible surprise to be served this dinner ... a mixed grill at $53 on a plate with two lemon slices and two equally similar, indistinguishable small filets ... supposed to be sea bass and swordfish which are easy to discern ... not only were we dismayed, disappointed and frustrated but we were sad because tonight my husband and I were celebrating our 39th wedding anniversary and more importantly the incredibly happy news of his cancer remission/cure. Unfriendly staff The waiter brought me my appetizer of oysters which were definitely not the best I've had, and didn't bring my husband's appetizer. After waiting 10 minutes he came back and then decided to tell us he couldn't order the app until we gave him our entree order. If he had told us that when we ordered the oysters we would have done that. So I had fair oysters, and my husband had no app and the waiter kept saying he told us about this earlier. Loud and raucously noisy at times. Great Fresh Fish simple prepared, but they clearly use a lot of seed oil which they spray on the fish and the pan. I've watch the cooks do this from the Oyster Bar many times. Oysters are always wonderfully fresh and expensive. We travel out to Princeton at least twice a year to eat at Blue Point Grill and that is saying a lot because we are about 50 minutes away! We have been coming here for several years without disappointment, exactly what you want in a seafood restaurant - quality and consistency! Staff is always fast and friendly. We LOVE Blue Point! We've been making it a point to come every summer (at least once) for the past seven years. I always get the Shrimp Scampi Pasta, or most recently, the lemon sole. I can't get ot anywhere else since nothing else compares! Everything on the menu is great, we try new appetizers every time, although the calamari has been my favorite. The only thing we have not been big fans of, is the lobster bisque (too buttery, tastes almost like a dessert) and the surf and turf (why order the steak at a seafood restaurant? Our mistake) Indoors is quaint and beautiful, the rooftop seating gets better every year, and the sidewalk/outdoor dining is so cute when there arent cicadas! I've been to this restaurant a few times over the years and was excited to learn about Restaurant Week and decided to visit again. Sorry to say that the Baramundi dish was just awful. The fish coating had a weird taste and the risotto was soggy and not tasteful. It was a party of 2 and we ordered the same dish and surprisingly no one came to our table to ask was something wrong with the dish because neither uf us really touched the dish when it left our table. The brownie dessert was not good sorry to say and I LOVE dessert. Didn't eat that as well. If I made the same meal at home and it came out like that, I would have thrown it away which is basically what happened tonight and it was not a cheap meal. This is one of our favorite stops for dinner. The food was as always well prepared, delicious and quite expensive. We had a 6pm reservation and were seated promptly. We had asked in the reservation and upon arrival for a four top booth in the area we prefer near the bar. We were declined and offered a two top instead which we took. I noticed shortly after we were seated that two couples were then seated at the two open four top booths. I said nothing but took note. Prices here are high, very high. Our hostesses were very welcoming from the moment we walked in. We sat outside in an enclosed patio, they also have seating upstairs that is outside. The patio has heaters so the temperature was nice for dinner. I will definitely be coming back when it gets warmer. Our waitress was so nice and very knowledgeable. We were between a few options for dinner and asked for suggestions. She answered all of our questions and was super friendly. I would love to have her again. Now for the food. They brought us bread and butter to start. For my entree, I was between five different options that all sounded amazing. I ended up ordering the corvina fish that had a lemon caper sauce on top of it with a baked potato. My dinner was a good portion and it was absolutely delicious. It was nice to try a different type of fish from what you normally see on a menu. There are so many options for seafood lovers here! Came here on a Wednesday night with a few friends and this place was surprisingly packed! We were still able to get a reservation and had a nice spot outside. Ambiance: - chill, relaxed, inviting - comfortable Service: - quick service - attentive waiters Food: - plenty of bread and oyster crackers to start! We got a second basket too - fried calamari- wonderfully crisp and had a fresh flavor. It went so well with a generous squeeze of lemon and the marinara sauce dip - Grilled Octopus- tender, and had a good chew. Seasoned well and the squeeze of lemon enhanced the fresh octopus flavor - Barnegat bluefish- perfectly seasoned and the capers added a burst of briny flavor to the fish. The fish was quite hearty and had a mild but distinct flavor. The coleslaw paired well with the fish and was delightfully crunchy, sweet and tangy. The sweet potato was pretty standard and well baked I will definitely come back to this spot!
