    Salted Caramel Creme Brulee

3.5 overall. Enjoyed the dishes it didn't have anything that was crave-able. Willing to go back for a second round. BYOB. Our serve was Hermes. He was friendly and attentive. Totally diner service ran about 2 hours. We were seated outside, per our request, on their covered front patio. A basket of bread was provided. We started off with the beef cheek dumplings and splitting the warm beet salad. I loved the dumplings and the accompanying sauce. The cheek was a similar texture to short rib and flavorful, nestled snuggly in a tender pasta dumpling. My DH thought the sauce was too salty, but it was perfect to me. Next course was blue point oysters and seafood bisque. Oysters were nice and cold. Bisque was not as creamy as we would have liked. The portion was enormous; too much for even the two of us to finish. Entrees came next. We each had one of the weekly specials: monkfish and leg of lamb. DH loved his monkfish. The fish and rice were cooked perfectly. The curry-style sauce had a nice kick. My lamb prepared well; falling off the bone. The accompaniments were hit or miss. I liked the butternut squash. The yogurt sauce was overpowering on the delicious lamb. The cauliflower was sour; I didn't eat it after the first few bites. A few of the crispy chick peas were overdone (sawdust-like consistency) but most of them were fine and they all got eaten. Dessert hit it out of the park. Along with another round of oysters, I had the salted caramel crème brûlée. The caramel flavor was subtle and enhanced the dish. It has a nice, thick sugar crust. DH had the dessert special, whisky bread pudding. The sauce has a gentle whisky flavor along with the delicate pudding. Invisalign score: 1. I didn't end up cleaning my Invisalign trays in the bathroom. I had high hopes because it was a private, single stall bathroom, but there was no ledge for me to use to clean my trays and brush my teeth. Didn't want to risk dropping a tray, so waited until I got home. I'd like to try Acacia again. I want to see how the duck dish is! The lamb and bisque were misses for us, but the service was good. We didn't feel rushed, and there are a few more dishes we'd like to try.

BYOB! Husband and I wanted to venture out of Princeton downtown for a good Italian restaurant that wasn't too far of a drive. Acacia was recommended to us and we decided to make a reservation. I was looking for a good pasta carbonara around the area that wasn't too greasy or eggy. Also, I was looking for gluten-free friendly options which Acacia mentioned in their reviews. Ordered the Strawberry Arugula Salad, Bucatini Carbonara, and Salmon. Everything was delicious. I was also told the pastas are homemade and you can tell by the freshness of it. The carbonara was a little underwhelming at first impression but The pancetta and green peas were hidden underneath the homemade bucatini. Was not expecting much at the first bite but I was wrong. The bucatini was so fresh and the carbonara was well-prepared and seasoned-exactly what I was craving that night. I had a taste of the Salmon and it was prepared and flavored well. Staff checked up on us frequently. We are definitely going back!

Caramel creme brûlée. Had to hold everyone back to get this shot quickly. It was soo good!

I've driven by this place for years and wanted to try it because it looked cute and usually packed. Finally, our family went last night without reservations and were seated right away. The menu looked great and we needed some time to decide. We started with the tomato/eggplant soup that was smooth and creamy texture with a rich flavor. There was a slight bitterness to it but not enough that I wouldn't order again. Also to start, we got the warm beet salad with chicken and it was delicious. The chicken was really great quality and cooked perfectly. I never thought I would be writing about chicken on top of a salad but it was that good. Even the picky teen loved it. The starters ended up being shared since it took took a while to get them so we were hungry. For entrees we got the burger, rigatoni, cacio Pepe spaghetti, beef parpadelle. All the pasta is homemade and we all enjoyed our entrees. The rigatoni was not the usual shape I'm used to and had a tangy and sweet balsamic sauce. (Forgot to take a pic at the restaurant but got one of the leftovers at home) My daughter liked it but the the flavors are on the strong side and little unusual. I think this might be better for sharing. The burger was perfect! Perfect size, great taste and served with hot fresh fries. I enjoyed the cacio/pepe spaghetti with great truffle flavor. It could've used some salt though. The parpadelle was so good with fresh pasta and tender beef! It could've used more sauce since not all the pasta had a good coating. It had gotten late and the restaurant was almost empty after our entrees so we debated if we even wanted dessert but ended up getting the salted caramel creme brûlée. Let's just say my teen wants to come back and just get 4 salads and 4 crème brûlée. It was just that good. Service was slow but think restaurants are struggling with the pandemic. Everyone was friendly and accommodating so no complaints there. There is outdoor seating with heat lamps but we sat indoors. It was cold indoors since the door to the patio kept opening for service. We would absolutely go back. We enjoyed the food, even though some slight adjustments are needed, and friendly service!

Came out for dinner for the first time since COVID had shut everything down and Acacia was amazing! The food is so fresh and SO good. The calamari is to die for, we also got the oysters. Home made pasta was excellent. All the food is so so fresh. It was great. Also BYOB. Not to mention the wait staff is very attentive and helpful. There was social distancing too. Definitely make a reservation for the time being as they fill up quickly and seating is limited. Can't wait to come back!

Went for brunch on Sunday for restaurant week.Service is very pleasant. The kitchen seemed a little slow. I had an excellent cauliflower soup . That doesn't sound very promising but it was very good. I also had huevos rancheros and chocolate mouse. Everything was good. The room is little noisy. But the three of us found it a good experience and would definitely return.

This is a super easy review to write because everything was simply wonderful! Great hostess & waiter, the sweet decor and .... the food!!! Vince & I split a really delicious Brussel sprout salad to start and then all had the cracker board. I only truly liked one of the four cheeses and the good flatbread. I loved the truffle honey. The pickled vegetables weren't my thing but everyone else enjoyed them. The seafood lasagna special I had was really really good! It boasted crab, shrimp & scallops atop spinach & with a perfect light white sauce. Vince had the Griggstown chicken dish and the others had scallops & raviolis. We were all extremely happy with our meals! To cap everything off was dessert! The chocolate dome was rich and tremendously good plus was accompanied by homemade chocolate ice-cream! My best dessert of the year to date!

Also loved the smash burger -- delicious and no pretentious frills -- but the fries were the standout; homemade, hearty and crispy. The pumpkin and pretzel casarecce pasta was very tasty as well, and the small-sized portion was plenty. Clearly the chef is talented and takes their work seriously. Given that they don't sell liquor & you can bring your own, the prices are fantastic. Cheapest dinner I've had since the early 2000s lol. They do have some N/A wines, beers and cocktails for those who don't care about booze. I could see this place being perfect for breakfast or lunch because it has beautiful views of the river. We came for dinner, and within 20-30 minutes, it was pitch black outside so we didn't get to enjoy the view. The lighting in the restaurant for dinner is too bright, which takes away from the atmosphere and makes it seem more like a takeout restaurant than upscale dining. Our server was great but the food took way too long to come out. It was about 30 minutes to get a salad. Not sure if they were short-staffed or that's just how it is but because the food was good enough, we will definitely come back to find out!

They said that the portion sizes were not smaller because of the $65 price fix option. If you ordered the salads à la carte they arranged from $19-$22 I believe. Had I did the à la cart and received that portion for that much money I would be disappointed to say the least; my wife and I often share a salad before entrées and generally speaking they are big enough to share but their portion wasn't enough for me alone. Presentation was beautiful and service was great, as well as the ambience, and we have been there several times. We are raying a 3 because of the positives, but I did consider making it a 2. I hope the restaurant takes note and addresses the piints I made. Note that the entrée portions were good.

And yet he performed a yeoman's job, moving from table to table with the calm bravery of someone who has accepted his fate and decided to try his best to do right by strangers anyway. The room itself was lovely, still dressed up for the holidays like a house that refuses to admit the season has moved on. It was pleasant to sit there and feel briefly insulated from the outside world, which was surely still doing whatever it does to people who skip lunch. I ordered the Wild Mushroom Risotto. It was delicious, earthy and comforting, the sort of dish that suggests someone in the kitchen cares. The portion, however, was modest for the price, leaving me fed but contemplative. My companions ordered a Caesar salad with salmon and a wedge salad with chicken, and both appeared content, which is often the highest praise one can expect at midday. With tip, the bill came to about one hundred dollars for three people at lunch, which felt a bit steep for what landed on the table. There is no crime in that, but it does linger in the mind afterward. So here we are. A good meal, a kind and overworked server, a pleasant room, and food that was enjoyable but not generous. Given the abundance of good eating options nearby, it will probably be a while before I return. I do not regret going. I am simply aware that time, money, and lunches are all finite things. It has a rustic farmhouse feel (wood floors with wide boards, multiple fireplaces) but still comes across as more upscale than your typical tavern. The dining room has a warm atmosphere without being too loud, so you can actually have a conversation without shouting. We started with the seasonal pickle plate (beets, carrots, cauliflower, cucumber, fennel, olives) and the bread plate (three different breads with two different butters and olive oil). Both were a good way to kick things off. The pickled vegetables had a nice variety and the bread was fresh and paired well with the accompaniments. For our entrees, my wife went with the homemade pasta while I chose the Wagyu NY strip steak cooked medium rare with bourbon maple glazed root vegetables. The steak was cooked exactly as requested and had great flavor. The root vegetables added a nice sweetness that complemented the dish well. My wife really enjoyed her pasta and had enough to take some home. To finish the night, we had the mozzarella gelato (yes, you read that right - mozzarella), along with tea for my wife and coffee and Sambuca for me. The gelato was a unique dessert and a nice way to wrap up the meal. Our waitress Jemma was very friendly and attentive throughout the night without being overbearing. Overall, everything was very good. This is definitely a place we would return to, especially for a nice dinner out.

The service was very friendly, and the food came out promptly. They also provided complimentary champagne for our celebration. For appetizers, the duck bacon and vegetable fritters ($16) and hand-made potato and cheese pierogies ($19) were ordered. The fritters consisted of house cured and smoked duck breast with a whipped lemon ricotta. There were two present and each were fried perfectly. The lemon ricotta was definitely needed to pair with the salty fritter. It was a great compliment. The pierogies were of the squash variety and they came with caramelized onions and sauteed greens. There were about five or six substantial size pierogies and each sized appropriately. The squash layer really made them airy and the filling was tasty. The onions were a little too soft as there was some type of broth present. The greens were ideal though. For an entrée, I had the signature tavern burger ($38). It was a cold smoked grass-fed ground beef patty with caramelized onion, bone marrow, bacon jam, and potato wedges. I also had the gruyere and bacon added to the burger for no extra fee. When I initially ordered, I thought the bone marrow was just going to be on the burger, but I was wrong. Right next to the burger was one of bigger bone marrows I have seen. It was very good with the onions and bacon pieces. The marrow itself paired nicely with the bacon and onions. For the burger itself, I opted for it to be medium rare, and it came out perfect. There was an ideal ratio of bread to filling. The bacon jam was not too overpowerful, and the meat was seasoned well. The potato wedges which I believe were cooked in tallow were also large. They were crispy and seasoned nicely too. It was a well put together meal. I also tried the lamb being offered that night which I believe came with a lamb sausage and a shallot tzatziki. This was solid as well, but there were a number of fatty pieces I was surprised to see. For dessert, the mozzarella gelato ($12) was ordered. Yes, this had to be ordered to give it a try, and it was well received. There was not an overpowerful flavor of cheese, which I was afraid of. It did taste like mozzarella, but not overwhelming. The actual gelato was very creamy too, which I am sure helped. Will I go back? I would.

Sadly, our weekday meal was a disappointment. My friend and I were only one of two parties dining in the restaurant. The menu overall feels old and dated. It features Just the classics, which is fine if executed well, but the execution was seriously lacking. The little gem salad featured pickled cucumbers in a very sharp vinegar sitting next to overdressed, lettuce and kale. It also had very large round carrots, which I think were completely unnecessary. The complimentary bread was brought to the table, warm and featured little mini salads on the side, which was a thoughtful touch. My entree of duck was a substitute for the more exciting braised short ribs mentioned initially. The breast was tough and chewy and the bread crumb on the leg was mushy and not crisp. Desert was our last hope but the flourless cake proved to be a hard, tough dome. Shout out for the kind and thoughtful wait staff! Overall, however, a let down. What a shame! There are too many excellent restaurants in the Princeton area and a clientele that definitely have a global palate so I worry this place might not last.
