    Fried flounder

Open for take out during quarantine. Huge portions and the seafood does not disappoint. The fried flounder pieces are HUGE and lightly breaded. Butterfly shrimp was also very good. None of the food felt too greasy when you're eating. Service is fast and workers are nice. Plenty of parking so easy place to grab lunch.

Cha's Seafood sits in on Pennington Avenue, Trenton, NJ, in a small "L" shaped shopping plaza where an old factory used to be. It is very clean inside, with a large selection of breaded fillets and semi prepared shellfish, crabs and king crab legs in various sauces for purchase by the pound or in platters to take out. The space is large enough for a few tables, but that is not their business model. I stopped in for lunch this week around 1:30 pm, and I was just about the only customer there. I ordered a whiting lunch (3 fillets, fries, 2 slices of whole wheat, small cup of macaroni salad and a bottle of water for about $7.50, including tax. The price was definitely right. The fish was sliced thin and breaded in corn meal before bathing in the deep fryer. I could only eat two of the fillets made into a sandwich, and left most of the fries behind. They were okay, but far to many to eat in a balanced meal. Strangely, they did not offer any mayo, tarter sauce, nor even ketchup with the take away lunch. Any of those would have added to the flavor of the fish and taters, which was sort of plain as it was. Next time, I will be sure to ask for those accessories. Overall, just a decent, but unexciting monochromatic lunch. Those pre-seasoned crabs and other shellfish did look pretty good. Octavia did a good job taking care of me. She was friendly and informative.

I found Cha's Seafood Restaurant when I couldn't find the Crab Shack. The place was super busy. I ordered the 3-Dungeness Crabs and an order of fried large shrimp. This is not an eat in establishment. Carry out only. They were very nice and treated me with respect. They brought my food to my vehicle because I was not upto coming inside the place. The crab meal came with 2-corn on the cobs, potatoes and broccoli. My food was hot and well seasoned. I loved everything about it. The vegetables were seasoned perfectly. The crab was juicy. I wasn't crazy about the fried shrimp. It was average. But the crab meal was superb. I couldn't eat all of it, so I made 2-meals out of 1. I enjoyed this restaurant. I will visit it again the next time I am in Princeton NJ.

Came here for a half pound steamed shrimp platter which came with potatoes, two corn on cobs, and broccoli. The garlic butter sauce that they cook with is so good. First time eating here and the place was very clean on the inside. I will be getting food here again and I recommend anyone grabbing food here if they have a taste for seafood.

The attentive service and elegant ambience created the perfect setting for a special celebration. A truly memorable dining experience.

People love this place ... I say that because we were there late afternoon during the week and it was busy ... and it kept getting busier. I do understand why folks love it tho, because there's no other real seafood "shack" in the area specifically where folks can get their blue claw crabs. It truly does look and feel like a seafood shack because the wooden walls, brown paper on the table, paper towels on the table and overall decor scream "We are at the beach in a small southern town in the middle of nowhere where" lol Our server was great! She was very attentive and made recommendations... she was also very patient with us given that this was our first time here and we're a bit undecided on what we wanted to order. Now on to the food - this is honestly where I was underwhelmed. The broiled seafood had a whisper of flavor, the crab cake left a lot to be desired and the garlic buffalo shrimp were overwhelmingly buffalo sauce on top of fried shrimp. Now the clam chowder I had was amazing and I even ordered some to go. My friend enjoyed her crab legs meal overall and perhaps if we visit again that's the route I'll go. Oh and it's also a BYOB , so, be sure to grab your favorite bottle and bring it on in.

Much to my surprise I noticed that within the same mall strip that there was a restaurant by the name of "Crab Du Jour". This sign couldn't have been much more misleading. Upon entering, it gave dark and dated vibes but there were patrons inside so I opted to give them the benefit of the doubt. The host greeted us and asked what beverage we wanted and then sat us in one of the booth tables. The place is pretty large but dark. There are typical buffet stations separating both dining sides. Once we were ready to explore the stations, I was taken aback by the lack of food in the trays. I again took it as ok I'm sure they are in the middle of replenishing the food soon so I will at least get it fresh out of the kitchen. After trying out the hibachi station and being underwhelmed, I decided to glance at the "newer" selections of food that surely were replenished by now. Again, I was surprised that the same food stayed. In particular, the one item that lured me in was the "Crab..." in the restaurant name had never been refilled since I initially looked upon arrival. I asked several employees about the lack of replenishment and they looked around bewildered. It was at that moment, I was officially done. If you are in the area, steer very clear away from this spot. It was by far the worst experience of the year, sadly to say. I rated it 1 star for the ample strip mall parking.
