Literally stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant. I ordered the dial oil hand pulled noodles, fried dumplings, kung pao chicken and beef tripe/tendon appetizer. Everything was amazing. Noodles had a very nice bounce, not super starchy like some other people say. Flavors are the most authentic you are going to find here for miles. Not to mention the servers and Uncle Zhou himself! Went to sample a few things after reading a review. Lamb dumplings were excellent and stood on their own (I.e, no sauces needed). Scallion pancakes were similarly satisfying. The lamb hand-drawn noodles were excellent, with a light but tasty broth. The "soggy" texture of the pork kou wan could put some off, but we actually enjoyed it--not to mention the taste was very good. But the dial oil hand-drawn noodles were the true gem. The flavors were amazing, the noodles provided great texture, and the veggies soaked everything up beautifully. Every bite was unbelievable. Our server was quick and very helpful. We'd almost skipped the dial oil noodles, not realizing they were such a draw. Her recommendation sold us easily and proved to be the right call. There was quite a wait, though to be fair we went in on a Friday night. Being adults and more on the hunt for a wonderful meal than a quick seat, we didn't mind waiting. There were a few folks who clearly hadn't expected such a queue, and several left after 15+ minute waits. We might have waited half an hour for a table of two, mid- to late-dinner on Friday. The food at this spot is beyond delicious. As one grew up from China I approve the flavor this restaruant had presented. What brought me attention was there were only ONE PERSON working in the kitchen ( kitchen was open and seeable by the customer) which I believe eho is the owner. he did his job professionally hand crafted every single dish by himself even stretched every noodle. Being a native NY girl I know good Chinese food. Uncle Zhou (Uncle Joe's) is the real deal. They make hand pulled noodles daily. For real, I was transported back to Chinatown in Manhattan while eating. They just opened 2 months before COVID hit so please join me in supporting them. Absolutely horrible experience -- twice in a row!! Experience #1 (sometime in 2020): Overcharged on a takeout order. I didn't think much about it. Happens. Experience #2 (March 2021): Placed order for takeout.. Landed after 20 min to pick up. They kept us waiting for 40 minutes saying the order isn't ready yet. This is actually one of my boyfriend's and I favorite places to get the dial oil hand drawn noodles. This flavor is insane and addicting. We also love the cumin lamb as well because the cumin adds so much with the tender lamb. We are wanting to try almost everything on the menu at some point but we always have get the oil noodles! I wanted to like this place so bad but all the earlier reviews are right.. the service is TERRIBLE and the food is mediocre. For the price you pay, you're better off going somewhere else. To start off their menu is on a cheap tri-fold paper and its jam pack with stuff. If you know what you're ordering great but if you're trying this place out you will be overwhelmed and don't bother asking the waitresses because NONE OF THEM SPEAK ENGLISH! I thought it would be safe to point to a picture of the noodle soup and ask which one it was, since the broth looked a little milky, I asked her "What flavor broth was it?" and she simply replied "Yes" I decided that I would still get it since I am not a picky eater anyways. I ordered the glass noodle soup with beef and my friend got the Kung Pao Chicken and scallion pancake. The KPC came out rather quickly and we were surprised, then the pancakes. 5 minutes later the soup came out and my friend still had no rice to eat with his KPC. I asked the first server for rice and after staring at me for a while she said wait ten minutes because it's not ready. I thought that was weird how they didn't have rice ready during lunch time and that the food would even come out without it. Anyways, I started to eat my soup and although I ordered the glass noodle soup, I got one bite of glass noodle and the rest of the bowl was hand noodles with 2 small pieces of bok choy and literally 3 thin slice of meats.. The servers bustled around us and didn't check on us so after 10 minutes, I grabbed server #2 and he said to wait 2 more minutes because "the rice still wet". We waited again and by the time I was done with my bland soup (even after putting a lot of soy sauce and chili), I asked server #3 for rice and she said okay and disappeared. I looked for her and realized that she just went to the register and didn't even pay attention. I was finally fed up and grab server #4 who seem to know a little more English because she told me that the meal came with no rice and we did not order it. I told her that 1. we were not told it didn't come with rice, 2. they kept telling us to wait for it 3. you don't even have the price of a rice bowl on your menu. This is the very first time I went to a Chinese restaurant and did not receive rice with a meal. PANDA EXPRESS even gives you rice because its a staple in Asian cultures. The service is extremely friendly. We went on opening day and while the infamous hand pulled noodles were not ready the appetizer they give you was very good. We also ordered the scallion pancakes, which were not greasy at all while they might be a little less flaky than we are used to in the area. I love the doughy pancake style that I grew up with in New York and am very happy to find it again here in Plano. The dumplings which were to die for I don't think words can describe them. They remind me of the food back home in New York. For our entrees we got the Kung Pao chicken was super juicy and cooked to perfection and tofu mapu tasted great as well. Perhaps I don't understand the cuisine but our group of four people left our first experience with three saying they will never go back. Perhaps we ordered the wrong things from the menu? Another issue is they only serve beer but would not provide a corkage opportunity for us and our group who prefer wines with their meal. We asked nicely and then more firmly about the chance to enjoy the meal with our own beverages and were told an emphatic no. Went there once in summer, hand pulled noodles were good enough to come back again. But this time, I experienced the VERY POOR customer service this place has apparently (from the previous yelp reviews) had for awhile. The wait stuff had trouble answering any of my questions about the dishes, but trustingly, I went for a shrimp dish that the sever hesitantly claimed was stir-fried. I got the shrimp dish and it was the most foul smelling and tasting food I've ever had; on top of that, it had frozen vegetables mixed in that were still cold and was not stir fried by any definition. The manager came to the table after my remark about the dish, and even after I said that I will still pay for it, kept rudely insisting that's it's my fault for ordering it and that I have to pay for it regardless. I realize some of the food is good and personally, I liked that the hand pulled noodles, but it's best to avoid this place if you'd like to experience something other than terrible service. There is growing number of places with Chinese cuisine in the Dallas area and we should support these small businesses that actually try to provide good service. read more

The noodles are SO chewy & hard, it's like chewing on a cross of gummy and what I'd imagine an old leather belt would taste like. What should be a simple salty flavored pork dish had a weird sweetness to it and portion was TINY. You have to pay extra for rice and it's 1.50 per small bowl. This place is the real deal. The owner is from New York where he ran a similar popular restaurant. He moved his family to TX right before the Pandemic and we were worried he might close shop as the food is always great and always comes out piping hot. The food seems Tai'an style and uses a lot of peppercorn (although you can ask for milder versions as well as there is plenty food on the menu that is not spicy). We have been to Uncle Zhou's at least twenty times in the last three years and alway get consistently great food. The prices have come up but what hasn't these days. The food is worth the price for the quality. Also, the service is a bit slow since the Pandemic restrictions ended but totally worth the wait. read more

The noodles were ok but mixing it with a few pieces of glass noodles made it worst. Tried to improvise the taste of the soup with the pepper and soy sauce they had on the table didn't work. -Buddha delight. It has different veggies and a few pieces of meat so It's a mix of everything and few pieces of glass noodles is a joke. Soup is bland. If Buddha can speak to them definitely he wouldn't be delighted to be honest. -Fried dumplings. It's ok! However, I would rather buy the Ling Ling dumplings at Costco and cook it myself. It's 8 X better! Definitely would not recommend to my family and friends. But I'm not saying y'all shouldn't try it. There's also a language barrier which is ok. As a matter of fact if you want to experience some out of this world noodles go to Wu Wei Din in Plano. Ok let's finish this review. Table comes with the typical accompaniments (vinegar, soy sauce, chili paste) I needed so much just to doctor up the meal. The lamb has a good flavor but was left with a huge bowl of noodles after I ate my 4 pieces of lamb. SO GOOD! I am so glad we tried out this place. So many authentic Chinese flavors and they were all delicious. We tried the roasted & braised chicken, dragon eggplant, dial oil noodles, & beef noodle soup. The portions were so large for SUCH a great price! The chicken was moist and flavorful and the scallion pancake was cooked to a perfect crisp and not too oily. The noodles were the best hand pulled noodles we've had. However, the dragon eggplant truly stole the show! It was paired with a delicious sauce that balances the fried eggplant. I am not a big fan of eggplant, but I absolutely loved this dish. We ordered a few items and the Hand-Drawn Noodles was a standout dish. The dish itself appeared to be simple; however, the texture was quite good. Hot & Sour Soup had a distinctive white pepper flavor. The only issue we encountered was the server did not include a ladle for serving purposes, and when we asked for one, we got a big spoon instead. Moo Shu Pork was also pretty good, though it did not come with a serving spoon. We managed it by using chopsticks and forks. One thing worth noting: This dish did not include a bowl of rice like many Chinese restaurants do in the area. As other reviewers had noticed, service is not quite up to par yet. Plastic spoons for soup are not exactly the way to go for a sit-down place like Uncle Zhou. The bill included suggested tip amount of 15%, 18%, and 20%. Staff members were friendly and tried to answer questions in English. I hope the service will improve as the staff get more acquainted with menu and workflow. read more

Absolutely deserving of their Michelin recognition! Uncle Zhou's features a lot of items that you might not be familiar with, so the menu might be a little bit intimidating for some. We recommend steering clear of any standard American Chinese favorites like General Tso's or Orange chicken, because that's not what you come here for. While I'm certain they do those items great, if you stick to the Henan dishes they specialize in, your taste buds will thank you. We decided to order what we believed to be some of their greatest hits. That included the Shredded Pork w. Spicy Garlic Sauce, Dragon Eggplant, the Pork Belly w. Preserved Veges, and the Baked Noodle & Fish in Sweet & Sour Sauce. All of these were absolutely amazing, but if you're coming here and can only order one thing, for the love of God, let that be the Dial Oil Hand-Drawn Wide Noodle. These springy wide noodles come in a vinegary/garlicky/slightly spicy sauce that is absolutely to die for. Make sure to stir! All of their noodles are fresh made and hand-pulled in house. The Chinese Hamburger (available in pork, lamb, and beef options) is excellent, as are the Shanghai Garlic Cabbage, Henan Pork Belly, and crispy Cumin Fried Lamb dishes. Such a pleasant surprise to find delicious and authentic Xian food in Plano! We ordered takeout today and had a great experience. We ordered the dial oil hand-drawn noodles, pork kou wan, moo shu pork, and rou jia mo (Chinese hamburger--went with the beef). Everything was pretty solid, but the noodles were a standout. Flavor was perfect and the texture was amazing; they were the perfect, chewy hand-pulled noodles.
