Got DoorDash order tonight and it was awful. The almond chicken had stale almonds. The egg flower soup had no taste. Very disappointed

Well, truly disappointed after reading supposedly rave reviews. I was thinking about using them for catering a big party and thought I'd best try their food first! Ordered tonight the Mongolian Beef and Beef with orange sauce. Even though there was plenty of food, the flavors in both dishes was terribly lacking. Both were supposed to be spicy - nah wasn't happening. Not even sure why I'm giving 3 stars. There is a better option in Lafayette and one in Moraga. Both with chefs that know how to flavor their dishes. One and done with Uncle Yu's. Sadly won't be using them to cater my party. read more

Sadly Uncle Yu's food fails in many ways: Very soggy, nothing crispy huere. if you like crispy Orange beef or chicken you will not find it here.. Flavors are generally lacking. The Mongolian beef looked like slop, a mash of over cooked vegetables and tiny beef pieces, in a gooey corn starch laden sauce. Does not hold a candle to Mongolian from P F Chang where they use beef filet. Even the egg rolls lacked flavor and were filled with stringy veges. The Orange chicken was bad, the breading should be tangy and crunchy, not bland and gooey. Panda Express (down Mt Diablo Blvd) is half the price and the food is much better. The spoiler was when the owner wanted to charge me for a small take out Hoisin Sauce container. Amazing! Avoid the Uncle if you want good food. read more

Really bad food, the Chinese chicken salad we ordered had lettuce cut into chunks, nothing else, with some soggy noodles ( supposed to be crunchy) and sugary thin dressing. Never had such a nasty salad. Went downhill from there, the noodles, were bland, the kung pao chicken no flavor. Other items ordered were just either tasteless or totally bland. On top of all top of nasty food, the receptionist is totally lacking in customer service, no greeting, no acknowledgement of customers presence. Downright rude. Well! not going to ho back ever. Wish we could have given a better review, does not make us feel good doing this, but this establishment needs to do better if they want to succeed. read more

The honey walnut shrimp looked good and we were right. Until it came back up for both of us, the second time was not good at all. Still feeling nauseous and probably won't eat today for a bit. Really bummed as it the taste was fine. It just made us both sick. read more

Westley the Waiter at Uncle Yu's in Lafayette made our visit work. The Peking Duck was good, we did not have it wrapped , and i like that better, we had the tea smoked duck in the Uncle Yu's in Livermore was TERRIBLE, so , we decided to give the one in Lafayette a chance, and my GF is Chinese, and Westley was able to speak with her in Chinese that helped, and he tolerated her not wanting the table they showed us, very nicely, so i would say Westley was very important to us having a good experience. No more lunches, darn that Covid. We've been eating here for years & years. Lunches were such a great value with fresh plentiful ingredients. But no longer. Not only did they do away with lunches, but the quality tanked. Dinner tonight was abysmal. The Garlic shrimp $18 we ordered because of the lengthy vegetable list was pure disappointment: shrimp, frozen mixed vegetables (like the bag you buy at a grocery store, each bit no bigger than a pea) 3 tiny pieces of broccoli, 2 shiitake mushrooms, a huge mound of limp onion, and slicers of garlic. All sitting in a big pool of oil. Awful. And so bland, no flavor. My friends dish looked better, as he ordered his chicken & veggies $17 steamed. Shrimp fried rice $17 was decent. Really good Chinese food. Slightly overpriced but it is reasonable for the area. I love the braised calamari and honey walnut prAwns. Both are delicious. I have been going to this restaurant for years. Last night was a waste of money. We barely sat down and they came over and needed a list of what we had to eat. We asked if we could at least get a cocktail first once they brought the cocktail they wanted to know our order again we said can you give us a minute? It came back replaced our entire order. They brought two of our hors d'oeuvres when the third and fourth one arrived. they were cold. We waited and waited and waited and finally I had to get up and go to the front desk and tell them I wanted our orders now they brought two of our orders when the other two orders came, they were cold we tried to get another glass of wine and another Diet Coke and we couldn't find anybody to give it to us to say the least I did not leave a tip. I am so disappointed in the the service and the food from last night it's gonna be a long time before I ever go back. read more

Open for takeout during COVID. This review is entirely based on how they arranged the boy choy and shitake mushroom dish so beautifully, like tiled shingles, and when I opened the takeout container at home, it was so lovely, just like dining in from before all this mess. OPEN DURING COVID - Shelter in Place Quality Asian fare with fresh ingredients and perfectly seasoned.. my favorites are their hot and sour soup... honey walnut prawns.. egg rolls.. YUM They're offering SUPER easy pickup from the back of their entrance with ample close parking. Worth the drive to Pleasanton for me.. they also deliver. My first time here. Lasting Impressions are a very clean classy traditional Chinese Mandarin style restaurant I'm having the lunch special. Lemon chicken with veggies soup and the chow main noodles. basically, this is the best Chinese food on that side of the tub, really, no question about it absolutely fantastic. My family has been coming to this restaurant for got almost 25 years and it is the best. The staff are friendly. The food is good, it's quick, and it's always high-quality. The hours could be better but there's still pretending we're in the middle of the pandemic which is fine. Hopefully they'll open up a little bit more great place for lunch. read more

We went on a trek to find the best Chinese food and can't believe the reviews below that are so negative. Does someone have a grudge or what? We chose, in advance, what dishes we would try at each; Hot and Sour soup, Walnut Prawns, Mongolian Beef, Barbecued Pork Fried Rice, and Spicy Sauteed String Beans. Uncle Yu's in Lafayette won on so many fronts. The parking is simple, the place is incredibly clean(cleaner by far than the others) the servers are knowledgeable and attentive but not intrusive, the cocktails we had were way superior (Lemon Drops), the tea perfect, and the food the best EVER! Especially the Walnut Prawns, OUTSTANDING! All the others began with messy dirty entry mats, and rancid oil flavor for frying anything is probably against some law somewhere. To be fair, the others were all lower priced, but we would rather have superior food and hang the price! Uncle Yu's isn't just "better", it's the BEST. And we are going there tonight , again! Yummy we havnt been out for Chinese in about 3 years and man let me tell you we are so Impressed with the quality of food and service. We got the family style where each person can pick a entire which comes with rice and everyone gets soup and some appetizers. We had 6 in our group and we had so many left overs. I hate to give them a poor review but it's been twice now that I've been disappointed. The staff are great ! Had take out wonton soup and they kindly added noodles however the noodles and veggies were cooked like a chow Mein and being take out broth is in separate container. However given that my noodles and veggies were already prepared like a chow mein. I didn't want to add the broth. The wonton soup should not have same flavors or prepared like a chow mein:( In addition the won ton wrapper coming off so not a good prep. In addition although not bad if they added other flavors or textures the wonton may be better. Sorry coming from back ground with parents owning a Chinese restaurant. I love love love Uncle Yu's. Their food is something I actually yearn for if I don't get it once a month! The service is always spot-on, we always ask for Wesley - as he's so friendly and even brings us our drinks before we ask for them. What do the hubby and I order? You guessed it, a cosmo from the full service bar. Everything here is good, and the menu is expanded from your usual chinese choices. Their food is fresh, and prepared quickly. There are a few items that are my favorites: - potstickers (the best I've had anywhere) - honey walnut prawns (light, crispy & never fishy) - hot and spicy chef's prawns - crab meat puffs - assorted dim-sum apps - chicken salad - light and delish, easy split for 2 My kids love the spare ribs, and the meat sticks, as they come with their own little hibachi burner. Parking is ample, service is impeccable. Really, there is nothing to not like here. I do miss their cherries jubilee with was prepared table-side and a lot of fun to watch. If you like peking duck, order it ahead for a nice treat. They also have a killer variety of moo-shoo. And there is always enough left over to enjoy for several lunches - which is a nice plus for me!
