Food is great , seriously it is the best Chinese food restaurant in our City........when you eat in. Take out versions of exact same dishes were HORRIBLE. The egg rolls were so greasy they soaked through the little wax bag they came in and the PLASTIC bag that I carried the food home in !! Broccoli in the chicken dish was so over cooked it was mushy and the brown sauce was too thin and a bit watery. Fried rice was just oaky but they scrimped on the shrimp. Usually can make that amount of food last 2-3 meals but I ended up throwing it all away at the cost of almost 50$ plus tip! First time I dis take out but they had JUST opened and weren't busy. For years, Uncle Yip's has been our go to Chinese food restaurant in Cincinnati, for special occasions. Not only has the food been amazing, but service was impeccable. We love that the extensive menu includes both traditional and Amerianized dishes. A something for everyone in our party place. We have fond memories of sharing special occasions with family and friends here. We still talk about the some of those experiences. We started coming to Uncle Yip's right after they changed ownership. Decor was shinny and new. They were putting their best foot forward; decor, food and service. Decor has changed a couple of times as they worked to prefect their desired look. Food is still good, but not the knock your socks off amazing. Service has become inconsistent. Our first time visiting Uncle Yip's but it's been on our list for awhile now and I couldn't be more thrilled to have gone. The food was better than I expected and really reminded me of authentic dim sum and Chinese we have gotten in New York and other big cities. The staff were all so friendly and helpful and always had a huge smile on their faces. They were also so accommodating. The restaurant itself was set back in a little strip mall area but was very clean. The atmosphere reminded me of being in Chinatown in London or Los Angeles. I still give this place a 3-3.5. It still is a little disorganized (via phone and in-person) and some really great dishes and some mediocre dishes. I wanted to try some traditional dim sum dishes. It was takeout only but that didn't seem to really affect the quality. The biggest surprise was the chicken feet. I had to close my eyes with the first bite...but it really was flavorful and delicious. Yum. I liked the stuffed eggplant, as I'm an eggplant fan. The lotus leaf was also tasty: it had steamed rice stuffed with meat/sausage. The sausage was a bit gristley. The sui mai was kind of firm as the dough was not so tender on another dumpling I tried as well. The pork bun was standard, slightly sweet and pretty good. The food was all nicely packaged and delicious. It was nice that the rice was all packed together in its own container, so it was still nice and fluffy when we started eating. I went in for lunch after I checked menu online. I went in. First, they bring you dinner menu. Which confused me. But I asked, then, they brought the lunch menu. I understand they want to make money, but unless you ask, they would not bring you lunch menu. This gave bad impression of how they run business. With extra $1, the lunch menu will come with soup and a sesame ball which is chinese gooey ball with sesame wrapped rice cake with sweet red bean inside. Soup was hot and sour soup. But Soup had too much starch and it was not soupy at all. I ordered Mapo Tofu for main dish. Rice is sticky, but dry, it was not pleasant to eat. Mapo Tofu, comparing against Sichuan restaurant, it was sub-par to say the least. Inside restaurant, it was OK interior. We had to enter through some sort of shop (which I think is part of Yips). But, everything I tried a was pretty good (and I tried a good variety!). Ordered the seafood fried rice and a chicken and corn soup. The soup tasted different from the last time... didn't even seem like the same recipe. The seafood rice had LOTS of dried hard garlic bits in it that were tough to chew and felt like I was about to break a tooth on it. It was very unpleasant. To make it better I poured part of the soup over the rice and that helped somewhat with the texture but did nothing to calm down the overwhelming amount of garlic taste in the rice. Good Chinese dim sum for a trip to Cincinnati. The service was good for the most part, and the food was good. Took a minute for us to get some chilli oil. The food was served quickly and hot, as the food we ate came around in dim sum carts. The sticky rice, which is my favorite, came out a little too saucy on the inside and the chicken feet was a bit hard on the skin, however everything else was delicious though. The siu mai and har gao were delectable little things and it was a nice little hole in the wall. The dim sum dishes were a bit expensive but the experience and atmosphere inside was extremely nice. It reminds me of Sichuan chili and may be just as good It's dim sum style so expect to sit down and essentially be bombarded with offerings. I love eating anything different and I have no dietary preferences- I will say that for someone like my wife who may be a bit pickier when eating this may not be the restaurant for you. We tried a few things and everything was mediocre. Everything mostly lacked in flavor. We had Chicken Fried Rice, Chicken, General Tso Chicken, Sticky Rice with Chinese Sausage, and Dim Sum. I just wasn't wowed about anything I had. The dim sum was blah and I love dumplings so this was very disappointing. I did not like the sticky rice at all. Uncle Yip's is a great place for authentic (from an Midwest American's perspective) Dim Sum. They have both regular steam table dim sum and you can order specialties from your server. The food was hot and fresh. Beef tendon was perfectly cooked and served with the perfect delicious sauce. They served the best chicken feet I've had in Ohio. Sticky rice was so good, and the desserts were also very tasty. The service was also attentive, my server having suggested some shareables and finding my turnip cake, which few guests requested, apparently. I highly recommend this restaurant for weekend Dim Sum! Don't be fooled by the strip mall exterior, Uncle Yip's is the place to go for Dim Sum in Cincinnati. They have recently remodeled and the interior is clean and nicely decorated, however it is hard to fit your legs under the new tables if you are on the taller side. I started off with hot Chrysanthemum tea, which is served with rock sugar. Dim Sum is served on several different carts, which the staff will bring next to your table and show you each dish, allowing you to select what you would like to order. If you're like me your eyes will be bigger than your stomach! Save room and order several dishes from a few carts rather than fill up from one. They have a steamed dish cart, a dessert cart, examples of larger servings that are made to order, and other fried foods on another cart. We went on a a Saturday night, which obvi wasn't ideal for dim sum but still good food! We had steamed shrimp dumplings (very fresh), house sui mai, steamed bbq pork bun (very fluffy), pan fried leek dumpings (enjoyed these more than I thought I would), spare ribs (a bit disappointing, wish had some sauce). I had dinner here recently on a Saturday night. The food was good and the portions were reasonable, but the service was haphazard. It took quite a while before we even got glasses of water. It took even longer before someone stopped by to take our order. When we were finished eating, we waited a while for someone to come by with a check or to ask if we wanted anything else. We love dim sum on the weekends at Uncle Yip's! They have dim sum carts that come around to each table. We take our two toddlers and they love it - also, food is almost immediately on the table as you sit down, which is key for our kids. No ordering and waiting around.
