Cantonese dim sum with a few other American-Chinese and broader Chinese dishes. Ordered for takeout and got a variety of dim-sum and share dishes. Was really craving Xiao Long Bao so ordered the 8 piece. Also got General Tso's, Kung Pao chicken, and pork-friend rice. For dim sum we got the chili stuffed shrimp and sticky rice with sausage. The dim sum options were great! I would recommend if eating here to just stick to the dim sum menu. This is clearly what the restaurant does well. For those who aren't familiar with dim sum it is typically a bunch of small dishes that you share with friends, like tapas or a bunch of appetizers for dinner. I would say 3-4 dim-sum dishes per person then you share with the table, so 5 people 15-20 dim-sum dishes (or more!). Both Kung Pao and General Tso's dishes were very bad though. And most sad of all the Xiao Long Bao soup dumplings had no soup. So wouldn't recommend the non-dim sum dishes. But if you haven't tried dim sum and are looking for a new experience then check this place out! read more

Delicious! We celebrated a birthday here and had a great time. The food and hospitality are top notch. It's becoming a family tradition to go here at least once a year and sometimes more frequently. We love it! read more

For years, Uncle Yip's has been our go to Chinese food restaurant in Cincinnati, for special occasions. Not only has the food been amazing, but service was impeccable. We love that the extensive menu includes both traditional and Amerianized dishes. A something for everyone in our party place. We have fond memories of sharing special occasions with family and friends here. We still talk about the some of those experiences. We started coming to Uncle Yip's right after they changed ownership. Decor was shinny and new. They were putting their best foot forward; decor, food and service. Decor has changed a couple of times as they worked to prefect their desired look. Food is still good, but not the knock your socks off amazing. Service has become inconsistent. Still good, still worth checking out, still a solid choice, but not the 5 stars it once was. read more

I wanted too long to take photos. I was pleasantly surprised by this little restaurant. They have the best fried rice I've ever eaten. We also tried the Taos chicken, shrimp dumplings, egg drop soup, and bao. All delicious. The staff was very attentive & friendly. read more

The pork bun, chicken w garlic sauce, mao po tofu, and yang chao fried rice were delicious. I didn't care for the spring rolls or crab rangoon. The garlic chicken alone would keep me going back. It was the best rendition I have ever had of that particular dish. Loved the fresh vegetables and the perfectly seasoned sauce. The ambiance is lackluster but very kid/family friendly, just take some snacks to occupy the kids while the food is made. read more

I still give this place a 3-3.5. It still is a little disorganized (via phone and in-person) and some really great dishes and some mediocre dishes. I wanted to try some traditional dim sum dishes. It was takeout only but that didn't seem to really affect the quality. The biggest surprise was the chicken feet. I had to close my eyes with the first bite...but it really was flavorful and delicious. Yum. I liked the stuffed eggplant, as I'm an eggplant fan. The lotus leaf was also tasty: it had steamed rice stuffed with meat/sausage. The sausage was a bit gristley. The sui mai was kind of firm as the dough was not so tender on another dumpling I tried as well. The pork bun was standard, slightly sweet and pretty good. All and all, I would love to dine in for dim sum and try other dishes. read more

The service was good. The waiter was shocked that we wanted the food extra hot. It was excellent. My daughter got intestines, they were fixed perfectly. I ordered the pork belly. If you have fixed pork belly yourself, you know how difficult it is to get tender. This was perfect. The restaurant was very clean. I would not hesitate to recommend it again. read more

Arrived for a weekday dim sum lunch. We had clearly missed the lunch rush as most tables had not been cleaned yet. We found a cleaned one and ordered an assortment of dishes from a very friendly staff. Everything we ordered was hot and fresh - all delicious! Will definitely return. read more

*Star rating is only for take out!* I get the same thing every time I come here; shrimp fried rice, chicken w/broccoli and order of egg rolls. Food is great , seriously it is the best Chinese food restaurant in our City........when you eat in. Take out versions of exact same dishes were HORRIBLE. The egg rolls were so greasy they soaked through the little wax bag they came in and the PLASTIC bag that I carried the food home in !! Broccoli in the chicken dish was so over cooked it was mushy and the brown sauce was too thin and a bit watery. Fried rice was just oaky but they scrimped on the shrimp. Usually can make that amount of food last 2-3 meals but I ended up throwing it all away at the cost of almost 50$ plus tip! First time I dis take out but they had JUST opened and weren't busy. Will never order take out again !! read more

I can't say I'm a dim sum expert, but I did really enjoy my meal. Place was a little strange- they were doing construction in part of restaurant so it was loud and tarped off. We had to enter through some sort of shop (which I think is part of Yips). But, everything I tried a was pretty good (and I tried a good variety!). Lotus wrapped sticky rice and egg custard dim sum were my two favs! (Least fav was the peppers stuffed with shrimp- a bit bland actually). read more

Great food! We placed a large order for carryout, including: the rock salt pork chop, orange chicken, General Tso's chicken, Ha Moon Mai Fun, Beef With Broccoli, and Beef With Gai Lan. The food was all nicely packaged and delicious. It was nice that the rice was all packed together in its own container, so it was still nice and fluffy when we started eating. The food was very flavorful and much enjoyed. We had plenty to feed our crowd and still have some leftovers for the next day! The staff was friendly and ordering ahead for pick up was easy. read more

Good Chinese dim sum for a trip to Cincinnati. The service was good for the most part, and the food was good. Took a minute for us to get some chilli oil. The food was served quickly and hot, as the food we ate came around in dim sum carts. The sticky rice, which is my favorite, came out a little too saucy on the inside and the chicken feet was a bit hard on the skin, however everything else was delicious though. The siu mai and har gao were delectable little things and it was a nice little hole in the wall. The dim sum dishes were a bit expensive but the experience and atmosphere inside was extremely nice. The chairs and wallpaper are very Chinese themed and clean. read more

The food was very good. The Ha Moon Mai Fun was delicious. The Gai Lan was good too! We liked the Beef Noodle and Wonton Soup. The Dim Sum was amazing! Our first time visiting Uncle Yip's but it's been on our list for awhile now and I couldn't be more thrilled to have gone. The food was better than I expected and really reminded me of authentic dim sum and Chinese we have gotten in New York and other big cities. The staff were all so friendly and helpful and always had a huge smile on their faces. They were also so accommodating. The restaurant itself was set back in a little strip mall area but was very clean. The atmosphere reminded me of being in Chinatown in London or Los Angeles. I would highly recommend going and can't wait to go back. read more

Average food, nothing wow'd me. General Tso's was lacking, white & fried rice were both over cooked. Dim sum steamed buns seemed like they might be frozen. The only thing I enjoyed ish is the beef and broccoli & the crab Rangoons. I'll pass. read more

Hands down the BEST place for Chinese in Cincinnati! The place I went to growing up (Peking Garden) closed and my guy turned me onto Yip's. Took a couple visits but the food is always fresh and delicious. I've found the perfect combos...I judge places with Beef and Broccoli Lo Mein and Spring Rolls. % authentic workers who are caring and amazing. read more

I went in for lunch after I checked menu online. I went in. First, they bring you dinner menu. Which confused me. But I asked, then, they brought the lunch menu. I understand they want to make money, but unless you ask, they would not bring you lunch menu. This gave bad impression of how they run business. With extra $1, the lunch menu will come with soup and a sesame ball which is chinese gooey ball with sesame wrapped rice cake with sweet red bean inside. Soup was hot and sour soup. But Soup had too much starch and it was not soupy at all. I ordered Mapo Tofu for main dish. Rice is sticky, but dry, it was not pleasant to eat. Mapo Tofu, comparing against Sichuan restaurant, it was sub-par to say the least. Inside restaurant, it was OK interior. This review is not to be harsh, but I really did not enjoy their food at all. read more

Dined on a Friday night, not too busy. Food was good, service was fine. Wheelchair accessible, had a very helpful patron hold the doors for us which was much appreciated read more

It is the definition of hole in the wall restaurant you don't want to miss. It reminds me of Sichuan chili and may be just as good It's dim sum style so expect to sit down and essentially be bombarded with offerings. You will have a tab and people circulating dishes, every dish you order gets added to your tab and you basically split the meal evenly with the people you are with. I love eating anything different and I have no dietary preferences- I will say that for someone like my wife who may be a bit pickier when eating this may not be the restaurant for you. Quite frequently I had no idea what I was eating and just enjoying the delicious ride Price is reasonable for 6 adults we ordered virtually the whole menu it seems and paid about 30$ a person with tip read more

Uncle Yips was a disappointment! They were on my to-try list for awhile. I finally got around to trying them and was not impressed! The staff was very nice but they food missed the mark for me. We tried a few things and everything was mediocre. Everything mostly lacked in flavor. We had Chicken Fried Rice, Chicken, General Tso Chicken, Sticky Rice with Chinese Sausage, and Dim Sum. I just wasn't wowed about anything I had. The dim sum was blah and I love dumplings so this was very disappointing. I did not like the sticky rice at all. Maybe that was a flavor and texture preference. Overall, nothing stood out! I won't be back. read more

Uncle Yip's is a great place for authentic (from an Midwest American's perspective) Dim Sum. They have both regular steam table dim sum and you can order specialties from your server. The food was hot and fresh. Beef tendon was perfectly cooked and served with the perfect delicious sauce. They served the best chicken feet I've had in Ohio. Sticky rice was so good, and the desserts were also very tasty. The service was also attentive, my server having suggested some shareables and finding my turnip cake, which few guests requested, apparently. I highly recommend this restaurant for weekend Dim Sum! I hope to get back to Cincinnati soon to try their dinner menu. read more

This place is solid, I have ordered several items off the menu. Like spicy beef, fried noodles, orange chicken, and chicken fried rice. Always good and well prepared. The consistency of this place is impressive. I have had their dim sum on several occasions as well, very tastey. This place ranks as one of my favorite chinese and dim sum places in Cincinnati. read more

Uncle Yip's Restaurant - Cantonese Roast Duck - Dim Sum Near Me - Cincinnati, Ohio

Ordered the seafood fried rice and a chicken and corn soup. The soup tasted different from the last time... didn't even seem like the same recipe. The seafood rice had LOTS of dried hard garlic bits in it that were tough to chew and felt like I was about to break a tooth on it. It was very unpleasant. To make it better I poured part of the soup over the rice and that helped somewhat with the texture but did nothing to calm down the overwhelming amount of garlic taste in the rice. Very disappointed. read more

Don't be fooled by the strip mall exterior, Uncle Yip's is the place to go for Dim Sum in Cincinnati. They have recently remodeled and the interior is clean and nicely decorated, however it is hard to fit your legs under the new tables if you are on the taller side. I started off with hot Chrysanthemum tea, which is served with rock sugar. Dim Sum is served on several different carts, which the staff will bring next to your table and show you each dish, allowing you to select what you would like to order. If you're like me your eyes will be bigger than your stomach! Save room and order several dishes from a few carts rather than fill up from one. They have a steamed dish cart, a dessert cart, examples of larger servings that are made to order, and other fried foods on another cart. The staff if always polite and I always get the sense that I've stumbled into a friendly family restaurant every time I visit. read more

I'd give this restaurant a solid 3.5. My friend was visiting from out of town and we made the trek from Dayton in search of good dim sum. We went on a a Saturday night, which obvi wasn't ideal for dim sum but still good food! We had steamed shrimp dumplings (very fresh), house sui mai, steamed bbq pork bun (very fluffy), pan fried leek dumpings (enjoyed these more than I thought I would), spare ribs (a bit disappointing, wish had some sauce). Each dim sum dish was $4.95, and I'd recommend 2-3 dishes per person in your party. Overall a good meal, will likely be back. read more

Amidst a plethora of Chinese restaurants in the Cincinnati area, Uncle Yip's is not a standout. Their prices are on the higher side but the flavor, preparation, and quality is pretty average, although the portions are a good size. The inside decor is quite nice. We went on a weekday for lunch, most of the tables were empty and the restaurant had the awkwardly quiet "I don't want to talk too loudly" feeling. read more

an amazing dinner tonight with roasted Cantonese duck and lobster there. The quality of the food is excellent and they have authentic Chinese cooks. Well, we were hoping for a better experience. Maybe they were unprepared for Asian Food week or just short staffed, but the service was awful. There was one person working the whole dining room, running ragged as quickly as she could, but it wan't enough. She was frazzled. We ordered soup, egg rolls, and two entrees. We were served the soup, then one entree (no rice), then the egg rolls, then the last entree (again, no rice). So we had to ask for the rice, soy sauce and drink refills. It somehow took her four trips to bring those items. The food was actually good, but I doubt we'd go out of our way to return. read more

Uncle Yips is in the corner of a little strip mall. It looks, especially at night and unfamiliar as we were with area a little shady, but it's absolutely fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed the great flavors of the food and the welcoming atmosphere. I'll be sure to dine here again!"

We were in Cincy and craving some Chinese food. Thanks to Yelp we ended up at Uncle Yip's and had a superb meal! We started with potstickers and spring rolls, both of which were very good. Then onto spicy chicken and sweet and sour chicken. Both were very good and the spicy chicken was hot hot hot and yummy! We finished our meal with an order of custard buns which were a great creamy sweet finish to our meal. The atmosphere was very quiet and had the feel of a family Asian restaurant, which was very welcoming. Service was exceptional as was our experience. My wife stated "we'd eat more Chinese food if we had one of these back home" and I agree whole heartedly! Do yourself a favor and get some great food at Uncle Yip's. My favorite place to get soup dumplings in the city. The dipping sauce is SO GOOD seriously. I could live on them.

Best Chinese in the area. We make trips from the downtown area every couple months as a treat. Recipes seem like their from scratch and authentic. It always excites whomever we're eating with to try new things and share orders. The service in the restaurant was kind of shotty, but I've never been there in a hurry and they were good-humored about it. read more
