Recently two of my friends who are fluent in Mandarin took us to Sichuan Bistro for dinner. The inside was nice, looked newly painted and decorated. The server was friendly and our food came out pretty quickly all together even though we ordered a lot. Literally the best Chinese in town. And the potstickers are the best I've ever had. They seem to be wrapped in a homemade dough which is a bit thicker than you'd find in most potstickers, but I think that's why I like it. I usually order the garlic chicken when by myself, but it's the authentic menu where it's at. The sizzling beef literally sizzles and is spicy. Order the potato strings with it. I ordered delivery from UberEats and the food was fantastic (service and ambiance will not be addressed). We got the twice-cooked pork belly, dandan noodles and the enoki mushroom salad. The pork belly was thin and delicious with the perfect amount of spice. The dandan noodles were numbing and yummy. The enoki mushroom salad was refreshing and cool (it was a little warm due to traveling with hot food so I popped it in the fridge when it came). We will definitely order here again! read more

This is a very underrated restaurant in the west Chester, OH area. I'll admit it's not as good as Sichuan places had elsewhere in the states and abroad but as far as local restaurants go I was pleasantly surprised. I did a takeout order so I don't have much to say on the service or ambiance but someone picked up my call immediately and my order was ready on time. Red chili chicken: a staple of any Sichuan restaurant I found the chilis to be much larger than usual and the chicken a little salty but overall it's still good. 6.5/10 Mapo tofu: very good flavor and heat I was most surprised by how good this was. I wasn't expecting much but this really satisfied my craving. Tofu was a little flimsy but flavor makes up for it. 8/10 Twice cooked pork: much milder on spice for those who want something more traditional Sichuan but are afraid of the heat from other dishes. Pork was a bit fatty and chewy but veggies were very good. 6.5/10 Singaporean Rice noodles: this was the most underrated dish we ordered. Good curry and cinnamon flavor but not overwhelming and not overly spicy. There's a healthy amount of chicken and shrimp included and it's a rather large portion. Good for sharing or getting two meals out of! 8/10 Dan Dan noodles: delicious soft and chewy noodles served in a tasty and spicy sauce. Slightly above medium on the heat scale but not spicy enough where you can't enjoy the flavors. A good side dish but note this doesn't come with meat. 7/10 Just to show how good of a value this place is, all the food listed came to just under $65 out the door. This all fed a family of 5 with enough for 1-2 servings of leftovers thanks to the generous amount of rice given. In today's restaurant scene eating anywhere for less than $15 a person is an accomplishment and to be able to have something that isn't burgers or pizza for $13 a person is worth checking out! read more

My partner always likes to ask staff for recommendations, and the receptionist is always really helpful in offering suggestions! My favorite Sichuan spot in Cincinnati! A ton of great variety with a lot of unique and authentic dishes. Quick service and the interior looks a lot better after some recent renovations. They also recently added a lunch menu with a pretty good selection. I usually split a couple dishes with family or friends, and I highly recommend trying either the red dry chili shrimp, red dry chili fish, or red dry chili chicken. They are fried dishes that are very crunchy, spicy, and savory. Those are my favorite dishes at the restaurant. Otherwise, I really like the sichuan shrimp. I tried the lunch menu lo mein and it was pretty good but nothing too special. So I'd really recommend going out of your comfort zone and trying one of the aforementioned items or exploring the other more unique selections on their menu. I'm actually surprised by the bad reviews for this restaurant. My guess is that these reviews are over their Americanized dishes. I always go for the authentic Chinese food and the food is always great. My go to orders are: Mala Pork Intestines - 10/10. Give this a try if you don't mind something that's very chewy. Roast Pig's Feet - 9/10. Sometimes this can be a little dry but the flavor is always good. Red Dry Chili Chicken - 9/10. Same as any other Chinese restaurant but it's still good. Everything was coated in a very thick spice that made my mouth dry, not burn. I couldn't even taste the chicken at all. I ordered several dishes from here to get a good idea of what they offer. I got wontons, hot and sour soup, Kung Pao three ways, and beef and broccoli. The wontons were way too thick with not much meat inside. The hot and sour soup was ok. The sour portion was good but not enough on the spicy side. I added the provided chili sauce to add some heat. The kung pao was pretty good. The downside was the sauce was very thin, and oily. The beef and broccoli the same. I like my Chinese food with a thick sauce instead of being soupy. I have eaten here several times and found the food, on those visits, to be good. The dish I ordered this time (for lunch) was the three-flavored (beef, chicken, shrimp) kung pao. It comes with fried rice and an egg roll. Portions of rice and kung pao were ample. The egg roll was a bit below room temperature. The "chicken" was basically chicken skin as the waitress helpfully pointed out the hair-thin layer of meat nestled within, The shrimp was tough from being overcooked, and there were no peanuts. Although there were plenty of pieces of dried pepper, the dish was only minimally spicy. About 15-20% of the grains of fried rice were plain white, something I have never noticed previously. The other, who is a vegetarian and I don't understand for the life of me his reason to eat here, got the ONLY veggie option, of vegetarian lo mein. Before I talk about the food, I'll quickly mention other things. This place is pretty adequately sized, and I've never seen waiting here even in busy days. However, if you are arriving with a large group, do call in a lil in advance. Now to the food. Here's the thing. The first couple times you eat here, you'd think it's really good. Quickly post that, you'd start noticing the exuberant quantity of oil in the dish. And let's face it, for $10 and the amount of oil, that's not your extra virgin olive oil. It is tasty no doubt, but I couldn't overlook the oil. Price wise- it's pretty reasonable for the quantity. Though sometimes they do get stingy with their meat servings. In the end, they hand you a fortune cookie. And it's rarely a prediction-sometimes, it's just a proverb. I wish I could give them a 3.5 stars. Ordered carryout from them yesterday. Chinese authentic Kungpao chicken and Mapo Tofu. The Mapo tofu was better. , I was glad to taste flower pepper in it - an essential ingredient of realnSichuan dishes. The Kungpao chicken was ok. Chicken tasted a bit fattening and I think it was because they used dark meat. That's a short cut to make stir fried chicken taste tender. The dish was very oily, the chicken was pretty much sitting in oil. I will definitely go back to try more dishes to be able to give them a more fair review. I've read some folks said the dishes from the authentic Chibese menu were better than the ones on the American Chinese menu. I like both so I will try the American Chicken dishes too. read more

Once we entered we we're greeted and was told to sit at a small table since there were only three of us. The seating is very tight. We were waited on pretty quickly. We ordered our food and unfortunately it did not come out all together. My husband order came out first. He ordered the Chicken Lomein ($5.95) and it came with an Veggie Egg roll. It was served very quick and hot. It tasted very good! My order came out serveral minutes later. I ordered General Tso's Chicken ($6.95). It came with your choice White Rice or Veggie Fried Rice and a Veggie Egg roll. Unfortunately, my Veggie Fried Rice was tasteless and lukewarm to cold. Some of the rice was still white and it had very little veggies and egg in it. My Egg roll was tasteless as well. General Tso's Chicken was ok, and served warm not hot, and the chicken was overcooked. Not sure why my dish came out later and was not hot. The outside is pretty misleading, easily missed for yet another american chinese take out. The inside decor is just bland, nothing spectacular. Service The lady was on it. She said to have a seat wherever we like ( we got there a little after 12 when they open). Got our drinks fast. As a Chinese myself, it's not easy to find really good and authentic Chinese food in the United States. I was really surprised to hear about this place in Mason. The flavors are very authentic and much like the Sichuan style food in China. Even the smell in the restaurant was authentic! Average Chinese food in Cincinnati. Came in during lunch time on a Tuesday with 2 colleagues and it took about 15 minutes for the waitress to take our orders. With no one waiting for a table, they spent more time cleaning after the customers tables that just left and getting to-go boxes than getting our orders... Since we didn't have 2 hours for lunch, I decided to order off of the lunch menu (Sichuan chicken with fried rice and veggie egg role) so that they could cook it in batch. I wish I didn't. Was looking for a restaurant in the area late last night and thankfully this place was open. Ordered a number of dishes and the waitress warned us that everything we ordered was spicy, some really spicy...but that didn't scare us. Yes, most of the things we ordered were spicy, but it wasn't overwhelming - the spice added to the flavor, not detract from it. Here are the things we ordered (names may not match the menu): - twice cooked pork: my favorite dish that we ordered. Thin slices of pork belly that we're salty and spicy, just how it should be. Perfectly complemented by rice. - dry chili chicken: really small breaded nuggets of chicken covered in chilis. Flavor was good but my complaint here was the chicken was too small. Would prefer larger pieces to improve the meat to breading ratio. - green beans (Chinese name is 干煸四季豆): a Sichuan classic, this dish is often too salty but (possibly for the first time ever) this one was perfect (still salty enough to be delicious). - mapo tofu: I was a little worried when this dish came out and I could see what looked like a sprinkling of ground up mala peppercorns but it turned out to be really mild. Yes spicy but not numbing at all. Sauce for mapo tofu varies in viscosity/thickness - this one was oily, spicy and amazing. - cumin lamb: also covered in chilis, this was solid but I've had better. Usually cumin lamb has a really nice savory flavor but it didn't come through in this dish - the chilis took over most of the flavor. Will also say our waitress was really nice (helped us with ordering), restaurant was spacious and clean, and a solid number of people were dining there past 9pm. Glad we were able to find a delicious, non-chain restaurant near Great Wolf Lodge! The restaurant is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking and seating. We were a bit confused when first walking in because no one greeted us. We had to find someone to ask. The food was delicious! The menu had a variety of classics plus various Chinese selections that don't have the American touch. We ordered scallion pancakes from that menu and were not disappointed! We also ordered pot stickers, two chicken entrees and some lo mein which was plenty for the five of us. We had plenty of leftovers! I've had good experiences with Sichuan Bistro in the past and normally I'd say a five star rating should be reserved for fine dining establishments, but tonight Sichuan Bistro was truly great on a level that is hard to find in Greater Cincinnati. Instead of experimenting with some of their more exotic dishes -- because, well, they're one of the few places in this region that offers jellyfish, tripe, pig's ear, etc. -- I went with some of the most popular authentic items. Specifically, the Red Dry Chili Chicken and the Pork with Chive Flowers. I ordered these carryout and even after the 15+ minute car ride they were still among the best dishes I've eaten in months. To be fair, I'll admit that I can't say what authentic Sichuan cuisine tastes like as I'm of European descent and I've never even been to Asia... *but* I have tasted various Chinese cuisine touted as authentic from San Fransisco to to New York to Los Angeles, etc. over the last 20 years and what Sichuan Bistro prepared tonight easily ranks in my personal top 5. Why? The ingredients were both well-proportioned and well-prepared and there was clearly someone in the kitchen that knew how to cook all of this properly. Both dishes were very flavorful, impressively consistent and almost without comparison to what's available elsewhere in Greater Cincinnati. This addresses quality, but what about quantity? OMG. I made myself an embarrassingly large half-and-half plate of both the chicken and pork and... I still have *two* meals worth of leftovers in the carryout containers! In my experience, Chinese-American restaurants typically provide large servings, but what Sichuan Bistro has been providing is something that redefines "large". In short, I definitely recommend trying this place at least once if you haven't already. General Tao's chicken was 90% gummy breading, 10% rubbery chicken and and very lightly coated in the most bland, tasteless sauce I have ever had. It was not spicy at all. I have ordered several dishes and they all end up making me feel like I pulled whatever I ordered out of a bottle of oil that is in desperate need of changing. And, if you are told your to go order will be ready in 15 minutes, give them 40. They are so slow and seemingly incapable of giving an accurate completion time for orders.
