Tiny little Chinese restaurant in downtown Blue Ash completely run by the owner. He takes orders, cooks it fresh, and serves. I don't know how he does it but he could run circles around other Chinese restaurants. My go to at Chinese restaurants is always pork fried rice and his is the absolute best around! The lunch special is HUGE and comes with a mini egg roll. The fried rice has pork, egg, carrots, peas, and a sprinkle of green onion (wish it had more!) The man who run this establishment is a nasty person with a terrible attitude. I tried placing an order on November 14th by phone and they did not respond. This establishment was closed when it did not state that nowhere online. I placed an order Online went back and the restaurant was still closed! Today I went to place an order and he was very nasty to me! Held no accountability for the fact they were closed and excepting orders online still when you were no where to be found lol. 12/31/24 Lunch takeout: Schezuan chicken and pork eggroll. Served with sticky rice instead of normal rice!(?) Overall taste was sour! Not served in a normal sauce but a pure floating liquid. Ordered at 6:30 and got my food at 7:20. Very small place only for takeout. Hardly any chicken in my bowl and the sweet and sour bowl was pretty bad too. The fried rice was decent, but it's pretty hard to get that wrong. read more

To keep all Chinese restaurants on a level playing field, I usually order Beef Lo Mein. The order came out reasonably fast, but there really wasn't much flavor. It smelled good, but taste...eh. I had started going to Silver Wok in 1996 while working at a local business. The "lunch" menu was very reasonably priced and the food was good. After changing jobs and moving to northern Kentucky, I would still order lunch take-out on the way home from a business meeting nearby over the course of many subsequent years up to 2012. Recently, I had an opportunity to stop through Blue Ash on my way home and picked up two Lunch orders. I had noticed that the price per entree had increased a one dollar yet seemed understandable with inflation. Upon my arrival home I reviewed my entrees and found there was no Shrimp within the Shrimp Low Mein Entree. I proceeded to call them to resolve and they indicated I would need to bring it back...a half-hour away. That was not an option for me and there seemed to be no sympathy on their end. I was just out of luck! I then decided to eat as is and noticed there wasn't much a a taste. Subsequently, we found the other chicken entree had limited taste as well. I might have just gone thru some bad luck (after 20+ years) yet it seems the food has degraded somewhat. Silver Wok is a very nice place to go for Chinese. The staff is really nice and is always happy to answer questions or just chat. Unfortunately I find their food to be a little bland. It just doesn't do it for me. Some people might prefer their General Tso chicken less flavorful, but not this guy. Their fried rice in particular is boring. However, none of it is actually bad. And I have a friend who prefers it to any other Chinese place in the area. So there you go, just my two cents. read more

I hate giving negative reviews, especially to a small business BUT this was probably the worst Chinese place I have ever dined at. I had a late afternoon appointment down in Cincinnati. On our way home we decided to get something to eat. All our go to spots in Hyde Park don't open until 5pm so we made our way north through Blue Ash. Found Silver Wok via Yelp. 3 stars, 2 reviews. Figured what the hey, how can you screw up standard American Chinese. Well, boy were we wrong. First thing walking in on a cold Thursday was that the place was freezing. No problem, not so busy that time of the day. We were then greeted by a nice lady and seated. There are only a handful of tables, and the one we sat at was right against a wall - a dirty, filthy wall. Ok - first strike I guess, not the cleanest place. I've eaten at total dives. I've dined along the streets of Saigon, VN, where health inspectors are the things of Fairy Tales, so while this was a bit of a turn off we soldiered on. Menu was your standard fare. Wife chose chicken w/ snow peas and asked for a brown sauce and a level 5 (out of 10 heat). I chose the szechuan shrimp as a complete dinner with soup, eggroll and fried rice. Decided to go with the hot and sour soup, which my wife exclaimed was what hot and sour soup should taste like (both a bit spicy and sour) Thumbs up. Eggroll wasn't anything special, but was passable. Now here is where things really go down hill. The second strike was my wifes chicken with snow peas. While the sauce was darker in color than the standard white sauce it had absolutely not flavor. None, zilch, nada. The chicken in the dish was the same, almost like boiled chicken breast, no flavor at all. She ended up just eating the snow peas. My szechuan was ok, nothing to call home about - think Mall food court quality. BUT the third strike was the fried rice. We were brought a cereal size bowl of fried rice to share. I took a spoonful and upon putting in my mouth it smelled odd, shrugged it off. My wife then tried it and she didn't say anything so I thought it was just me. Then upon her second spoonful she declared it was sour. Sure enough the rice smelled sour/spoiled. Never in my life have I had fried rice smell like that,or any rice for that matter. Waitress noticed we hadn't really touched the fried rice and that I wanted a box for my shrimp dish. When she came back with my box, she asked us if we liked it, we said no, we thought the rice was spoiled - she smelled it and said, no it was the same fried rice from lunch, smelled ok to her. THEN she asked us if we were Asian - my wife is full blood Vietnamese, born and raised there. I'm half Korean - we are both obviously Asian. The waitress then tells us well, American people like fried rice - Asian people eat white rice it is 'more fresh tasting' we should have ordered that. Crazy - I was stunned, spoiled food is, well spoiled food. So there it is. Three strikes - filthy walls, flavorless dishes and spoiled fried rice. Not being familiar with the area, this restaurant was hard to find but I was determined to get some rice. It's just a small store front in the corner of a shopping center with a little sign. After looking over the meager lunch menu I decided to play it safe with sweet n sour chicken. Came with a cream cheese wonton (no crab ragoons here!), I ordered white rice but you could get fried rice and 5-6 pieces of breaded white chicken and the normal red sauce. Nothing special. I ate it and it wasn't bad but definitely lacking. I checked out other plates of food. The General Tso chicken seemed pretty popular but nothing special there either. We were really disappointed with the carryout food we got. We ordered old school: egg foo young, sweet and sour pork, and moo goo gai pan. The egg foo young was fine. There were three large pieces that came with a sweet soy ginger sauce. The sweet and sour pork came with minimal vegetables, but the breading tasted like they accidentally dumped a tablespoon of salt into it. My husband ate most because he didn't have anything else but said it was horrible. My moo goo gai pan was so salty it was inedible and I had to throw it out. If you have not been there since they changed ownership, give it another try. They have new table and chairs and they got rid of the nasty dirty carpet and dead bugs in the windows. This new ownership is a blessing. They have clean wood floors now and the food is really good. They have expanded their menu for the weekends. They are very friendly, fast, and I don't think you can beat the quality for the price. I work locally and eat there often. But, the food is good enough that occasionally I drive there with the family. You wouldn't think it, but it is damn hard to get good asian food here in Cincinnati. Awful quality. Will never eat there again. I ordered the Singapore noodles. They were covered in clumps curry power, so greasy, and the lowest quality meat you can find for human consumption. Nothing we had tasted bad but on the other hand to me it didn't taste like much of anything. We had basic Chinese fare but nothing stood out as really good for the $32 we spent. Ordering online was fast and easy and the order was ready at the time I specified. The staff was friendly and efficient. We each ordered pan fried pork dumplings and in my opinion they didn't travel well, they were rubbery after the ride home. Their dipping sauce for the dumplings was flavorless. I would recommend not giving this place your business. When I ordered $25 worth of food I asked if I would be getting broccoli with two of my three lunch orders. I asked for all of my orders to be a 9 spicy. I ordered two hot an sour soups. An app of fried dumplings as well. When I came home, ( 20 minutes later) I had no spring rolls, missing a soup, no broccoli on anything, and not spicy, bland Chinese food. My Mongolian Beef has four small slivers of beef and a lot of onions. I called to see if I could come back and fix this.... They told me they were busy and had to let me go. I traveled back to the restaurant and the owner told me he would give me the spring rolls and soup, no broccoli! When I asked if I could have a appetizer for my trouble he said he would give me an egg roll.....A extra 40 minutes drive for me and I couldn't get broccoli that should have been on my order to begin with! I bought a half pound on broccoli at Kroger for less than a dollar. Told the owner he can keep the spring rolls and soup and left mentioning I would write a review. How cheap and with eye rolls to boot! I have worked in restaurants most my life. The Silver Wok is a hidden gem. I love this restaurant for take out. Everything is delicious and the veggies are really fresh. I've had Kung Pao pork, Szechuan Tofu, Curry Chicken, and Pad Thai with tofu. All incredible. Don't be fooled by the look of the place....it really is amazing!
