My hubby and I decided to take a day trip to Chattanooga and Uncle Larry's was first on our list!! The owner and staff are some of the nicest, kindest people you will ever meet!! And the food!! Amazing! I'm the SIPP so I know good fried fish!! They will not disappoint! We tried the greens, fried green tomatoes, and white beans! All were super good! Please come And pay them visit!! You will not be disappointed!

So I recently got a order of food from here. My sister was visiting coming this way from Nashville to so this place is on the way. For the longest my sister said that I should be doing videos about my foodie adventures because I've been doing this for awhile. I started on TripAdvisor and Google platforms also. I saw this place on line a video of the back story of how they got started and I definitely needed to try this delicious looking food! I got myself a 3 piece Perch plate for me and mom. I got my sister s 3 piece whiting fish plate and I got a 10 PC whiting fish only plate. The fish is fried to a crisp and crunchy with hot sauce and tartar sauce on the side. The sauce is boss. One thing about whiting bones will be there more than Perch no bones but whiting is different. The Perch is delicious and crispy how the original Bankhead Seafood used to be. I can't speak on the renovation building because I have not visited. The whiting fish is delicious also and the pieces are big not small at all. I took a picture of my Perch fish plate I put the whiting fish plate in the fridge at the time. I ate from here on 9/11/2025. If you are ever in the area pull up and support them! Man if they had a location down here in the area it would be game over for some places ha lol.

Great food and super friendly service. We tried the cajun style perch and lemon pepper catfish, with a side of coleslaw, hush puppies, Mac and cheese and beans. My dad who lovesss catfish said it was the best he's ever had, which is saying a lot!

Visited the South for the first time and heard great things about this catfish restaurant! I got the fried catfish and my friend got the fried tilapia. The catfish was so soft and buttery!! It is definitely a softer fish than the tilapia. The breading is a little too salty for me but I think that's also a personal preference. I got my fried catfish with a side of fried okra and turnip greens. Fried okra was delicious but the greens were also a little bit salty for my taste. I'd get the baked beans next time. The restaurant has more of a hole-in-the-wall vibes and is causally run. Service was fast and staff were attentive and helpful.

My goodness! What an absolute gem this restaurant is in the city of Chattanooga I enjoyed a catfish sandwich and coleslaw, with a side of greens. The best fried catfish I've had in the city!! The sweet lady and young man that served us were very friendly and had great sense of humor, both of them! The lemonade was delicious. The restaurant is old school, I felt like I was on my great grandmother's porch on a Sunday We can't hardly wait for our next visit!!!

I simply cannot recommend Uncle Larry's more to anyone, by far the best catfish I've ever had. Such a family run small place shelling out some of the best seafood east of the Mississippi. The catfish filets were breaded and Cajun seasoned, the best! I also loved the white bread it came with, simply was a little different than normal white bread unless I'm brainwashed by how good the catfish was. I ended up making a sandwich with the bread and adding a slaw. My wife for a simple meal of chicken tenders, I had her baked beans and she had potato salad which she enjoyed. Service was fast and friendly, couldn't have been any nicer. I hope to be in Chattanooga again one day to have some more of Larry's catfish.

This isn't a huge place but you can dine in comfortably. I placed a to go order to take back to my room. I ordered the 2 piece small whitening plate (Cajun). The plate came with two sides, which I went with white beans and fried okra. I opted for hush puppies instead of white bread. I didn't request fried hard on the fish nor the fried okra, like I normally do. It was a test & they passed!! Everything was so delicious, perfectly fried and well seasoned!! The customer service was personable and the inside of the restaurant has a very inviting vibe.....Felt like the inside of a loving home. I will definitely be back here whenever I'm in Chatt! My only regret was not ordering more food!

I couldn't be more happy that we stumbled upon this place. I spent the rest of my trip trying to get back here. The catfish is something I dream about. I liked the lemon pepper the best, and it was still a little spicy. The okra divine. The mac and cheese was like my momma makes. The person working that night was kind, helpful, and funny.

This was so so good! The food was amazing and crazy fresh and the service was wonderful. Everyone was so kind and made sure we were well taken care of. Wow! Great food and service. I'm not even a fish guy, but the catfish is great and their smash sauce is good too. My wife saw all the great reviews and she picked a gem. All the great reviews are spot on. The food really is very good. True Southern cooking at its best. We also got a pork chop sandwich, which was very good also, nice and tender. You can't get food like this in California! read more

Very friendly family that care about their business and customers. We do take out and dine in regularly and never disappointed. Their catfish is some of the best we've ever had and the turnip greens are always great. Excellent place for home cooking and family vibe. read more

As someone born and raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast--and with years spent traveling through the Delta, where catfish farming is a way of life--I've had my fair share of fried catfish. That said, Larry's Catfish was hands down the best I've ever had. The breading was perfectly seasoned and crisp, and what really stood out was how clean and light it tasted--little to no grease, just pure flavor. The service was just as impressive: warm, welcoming, and attentive. It reminded me of home in all the best ways. I'll absolutely be back anytime I'm feeling homesick. This place is a true gem. read more

Today we continued trying new restaurants for our 30th anniversary week. Our trek today took us to Uncle Larry's on East Brainerd. Been wanting to try this one for a while and now I'm wishing we had visited sooner. We got the variety platter so we could try all of the fish. Everything from the fish to the sides were awesome. We got Black Forest and coconut cake to go. They were delicious. The service was top notch. This will not be our last visit. read more

I got Smacked by the Catfish at Uncle Larry's and it was so good!! The staff were so friendly and accommodating. They explained everything on the menu. I got Catfish nuggets, fried okra and the white beans. Everything was delicious and the catfish was seasoned and fried perfectly. The next time I come to Chattanooga I will be back to Uncle Larry's. read more

Catfish catfish catfish!!!!! White beans are the best side. Family environment, great service. Dine in service ends 30 minutes before closing time. So the last 30 minutes of business is take out only. This place stays busy everyday of the week. Make sure you get yourself the catfish and white beans. You won't be disappointed. So happy this location has opened up. Tons of parking available and over flow parking in next lot over. I look forward to my next visit read more

When I tell you the food here was good! We even tried to come back before heading home on Sunday to find out they are closed. We ordered a whiting plate with white beans and slaw and a separate catfish sandwich. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious! If I'm ever back in town, will definitely stop in again! read more

The jambalaya was a great pick, the shrimp po'boy was pretty good, the bread was amazing, the shrimp were juicy and fresh. I added hot sauce for some zing. We were full but pre ordered beignets so I had to take one for the team and eat one. The best I've had outside of NO. The chef brought my friends an extra lil treat. Cherry bread puddling. I'll be honest I'm not a fan and did not want to try it. (It's a texture issue for me) However these were different. We were presented with 4 golden brown hush puppy looking delights in a cast iron skillet covered in a rum sauce. I took a small bite, the outside was crispy and the inside was moist chewy and delicious. It was an unexpected surprise. We completely loved the experience and the staff. From the moment we arrived, everyone was incredibly welcoming. Several servers stopped by to say hello, compliment me on my excellent restaurant manners, and generally make me feel like an honored guest. The food was excellent, and my humans enjoyed their meal while I was treated to a side of chicken that disappeared surprisingly fast. The service was attentive, friendly, and genuinely warm throughout our visit. The restaurant itself has a comfortable atmosphere with plenty of character. One of my favorite features was the giant cow mural, which provided excellent entertainment while I waited for my chicken to arrive. I spent several minutes making sure none of the cows planned to leave the wall. What stood out most was how accommodating the staff was. They didn't just tolerate a dog--they made us feel welcome. Whether you live in Chattanooga or traveling through. You gotta experience Uncle Larry's ....the fish and pork chops were delicious...seasoned and breaded just right and cooked to perfection.
