I know people love Champys around here but we love hot chicken and this place does it best. No frills, simple restaurant with 10 or so tables. You walk in and you choose your table and a nice waitress will bring your menus. We like the chicken strip basket which comes with two sides. Of our favorites are the fries, the collard greens, green beans, and mac and cheese. The chicken strips are very crispy, the meat is just a little dry but the flavor is great with even the mild level heat having nice heat. We also got the catfish which has a perfect crust and perfectly cooked inside. The baskets come with sauce and you get two per order. Probably more than you'll need. You get great food for an affordable price. Good Southern service. Just all around one of our faves. read more

There were definitely some highlights especially the catfish and the service. The ambience has a real throwback feel. It isn't fancy or modern, but that's part of its character. It reminded me of an old-school neighborhood Southern restaurant, and I actually appreciated the nostalgia. Between the decor, the food, and a cup of Kool-Aid, there were moments that genuinely took me back. The service was one of the strongest parts of the experience. Janet was a 10/10--friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout our visit. The kitchen staff was also very efficient, and our food came out hot and fresh. Missy, who rang us up, was hilarious and brought even more personality to the experience. The staff definitely made us feel welcome. Now, the food: Fried Catfish -- 10/10. Hands down the star of the meal. The catfish was fried perfectly, crispy on the outside, tender inside, and seasoned extremely well. This is what I would come back for. If you're visiting for the first time, I recommend starting with the catfish. Fried Chicken -- 7/10. Good, straightforward fried chicken. It was crispy and enjoyable, but nothing that completely separated it from other good fried chicken I've had. Still, I would order it again. Macaroni & Cheese -- 5/10. Not bad, just average for me. It worked as a side, but it didn't stand out compared with the catfish. The potato salad reminded me of Sam's Club potato salad, which actually isn't a bad thing because I like Sam's Club potato salad. It had that familiar, simple flavor. And the Kool-Aid mix deserves a mention. That took me straight back to childhood. Something about Kool-Aid alongside fried catfish and chicken just fit the throwback atmosphere perfectly. Overall, 3.75/5. The sides could be stronger, but the catfish was excellent, the service was outstanding, and the nostalgic atmosphere gave the restaurant its own personality. Janet and Missy helped make the visit memorable as well. If I find myself back in Chattanooga, I'd definitely stop by again. I also recommend giving The Flaming Rooster a try if you're in the area. This was a cool neighborhood spot near downtown that we stopped at the first night we were in town. Nice Blues/soul music played on the speakers. We were told to seat ourselves and our menus would be brought to us. After a short wait, the bartender/server came to take our drink order and food order. We both ordered the mild heat chicken tender special (3 tenders and fries for $7). We also added a veggie plate so we could try the Mac and cheese and greens. Our food arrived after a few minutes. The tenders were cooked fresh and were piping hot when they arrived. The chicken was dusted with mild heat seasoning. Outside of that seasoning, they weren't seasoned with anything else. We both remarked that we've had better Nashville hot tenders and better tenders in general. The Mac and cheese was just okay but the greens were the star of the meal. They were flavorful, meaty and had just enough kick to keep things interesting. Good meal overall. I recommend that you try them out. We will return to try other menu items. read more

Fish also didn't seem to have much seasonings, just heat. I ordered the mild but I can handle heat. There just wasn't much flavor. The fries were mostly limp but some were hard and lacked flavor. I'd love to review the food, but I can't. I placed an order at 6:20 for a 7:05 pickup. Take-out orders can sometimes take a bit, so I arrived at 7:20. When I walk in the gentleman at the front counter asks what I am there for, and I tell him a mobile order with my name. He looks at the counter, sees nothing and proceeds to tell me, 'they'll take care of it when they get over here' and continues counting money. After sitting for about 20 minutes, someone comes over for an order for another person and asks if it is mine. I say no, provide my name, and she heads off. Another 10 minutes later another woman comes and tells me they have no order under my name and I'll have to cancel it with door dash. My issue isn't the Door Dash mixup, that happens. My issue is, it took over 30 minutes for someone to actually tell me I had no order. If y'all close at 8pm, and I walk in 40 minutes before that, can't y'all let me know and make some food for me? The complete dismissal when I arrived and the lack the attitude like it was my fault really got to me. I hate to write bad reviews, and I was excited to try this place, and I know Door Dash has some blame here too, but this could've been handled a whole lot better. Smaller place. Everyone was very friendly. My husband and I both ordered chicken breast sandwich and I ordered a side of Mac and cheese. I am a wimp so I ordered no spice while he ordered medium. They checked with the kitchen and advised it would be about 15 mins as it would be fresh. We agreed and ordered sweet teas. It was no joke fresh and super hot temperature wise. I went after a meeting and hearing about this spot. The staff was really nice. Parking is available on the street. There are other businesses over there. I did a to go order although it was a nice atmosphere. People seem to be enjoying I did the chicken with Mac and cheese, with their pound cake, and a drink which was the fruit punch and tea mixed (sugar rush). I enjoyed the meal. Tuesdays special was three tenders and I had them with green beans and collard greens. And let me warn you - "medium" is hot. I went through every last bit of the blue cheese dressing in that little pot in an attempt to cool my taste buds. Don't get me wrong - it was DELICIOUS! The tenders were big pieces and they were cooked perfectly. Nicely topped with the hot spiciness. So many places lose the meal with the sides. Not here. The green beans were delicious. This place is pretty cool and has a spectrum of heat you can choose from for your chicken and fried catfish! Trying to get to this place for a while, finally made it there for lunch. Overall I was a tad bit disappointed, after calling multiple times to try and place a order before arriving I just drove over cause I had my heart set on chicken, I even got through at one point only to be put on hold by a worker and never returned to. Once I arrived, I was greeted and my order was taken, I got the medium wing plate with mac and cheese and collard greens. It did the roughly 20 mins to get my order. Overall the wings had a good crispy skin and flavor, again a little disappointed with the smaller sized of each since the plate comes with only 4. The star of the show was definitely the collard greens, great flavor and texture.
