Palomilla Steak Sandwich
Richard N.

If you're looking for your next go-to sandwich shop, look no further! Un Bien was amazing, and I'm already craving another sandwich from them! This was probably the best sandwich I've had in a long time, and I eat sandwiches ALL THE TIME! I had the Palomilla Steak sandwich, which was amazing. It's cooked to perfection, juicy, the right amount of toppings, and had nice toasted, crunchy bread. My wife had their signature sandwich, The Roast, which was pork, and is definitely a must try for your first visit. Glad I got to eat the other half of hers, in addition to mine! The service and ambiance are super casual! The workers are all extremely friendly, helpful and quick! It's a walk-up counter to order, and self-serve seating, all outdoors. Felt like I was eating in the Caribbean with their setup, music and the vibes. Can't wait to go back and encourage everyone to support this amazing place!

I love Un Bien! I've been going here since I was a kid and it was called Paseo's, and I'm still impressed every time. My favorites are the Caribbean roast sandwich, the Caribbean roast dinner, and the corn. For a vegetarian option, my fiancé loves the tofu delight sandwich and dinner. Un Bien has fabulous flavor, generous portions, and friendly staff. The shilshole location has a walk-up window, but they also have a walled-in and heated outdoor area to stay warm in the winter. For the quintessential Un Bien Shilshole experience, go on a sunny day and take your order across the street to the beach for a picnic and swim. There's nothing better than eating an Un Bien sandwich on the sand, while watching the sunset over the waves.

Yum! We've been to 2 of their locations now and it did not disappoint. I got the tofu delight and my husband got the onion obsession. As we could tell they seemed the same, except one of them has tofu. As for atmosphere, it is a small, open air picnic table type seating area, so there is very limited seating and at peak mealtimes it might be difficult to find a seat, but people are usually willing to share a table. The vegetarian selection was limited, but I would definitely get the tofu delight again. I wish they had more vegetarian options, and also think they should add a compost, because it'd be easy to compost most of the material required to wrap the sandwiches. A hand washing station of some sort would be nice as well. I definitely recommend stopping by for a quick, messy, delicious bite!

I'm not exaggerating when I say that their Caribbean roast is the sandwich of my dreams. The original Paseo was my favorite place to grab a bite in Seattle. I was so happy to hear that Un Bien kept all the same recipes when Paseo closed, so I was excited to finally return here on a recent trip after I moved away from the PNW over a decade ago. Getting a sandwich here was literally the first and most important item on my itinerary. The line is understandably long, but the wait isn't too bad. Seating is very limited, so people often get their orders to go. Their sandwiches are messy to eat, but so worth it. The meat is juicy, succulent, and tender. Pair this with the grilled onions, fresh cilantro, garlic aioli, in a perfectly toasted baguette, and you've got an explosion of flavors for your taste buds. Un Bien is a must-visit spot for any foodie visiting Seattle. If they ever decide to open a location in Austin, I will be the first in line.

Good sandwhich shop I visited on a recommendation.. many selections on this region specific menu. Fresh, with tender meat choices. The cashier was great! Personally, polite, and added to the good experience. I do recommend asking for many extra napkins. As the sandwhich is just as messy as it is good. The bright colored locations brings a Florida vibe, and was clean and inviting. Currently have one last location to try.

Caribbean Roast sandwiches and West Caribbean Bowl

First time trying this relative of Paseo's which was the original. The sandwich was delicious and no real discernible difference from Paseo - juicy, full of flavor, and just as messy as I remembered. The West Caribbean bowl was somewhat of a letdown. The chips were soggy and not packed separately like they do at Paseo, and there wasn't an option for the roast pork instead of chicken thigh. Service was fast and there is open air seating and a covered area on the side of the of the order window.

Un Bien is a Caribbean restaurant where the Seaview location is right next to the Golden Gardens beach, which makes it super busy when it's nice out. We wanted to try the pork shoulder sandwiches but they ran out of pork shoulder even though it was around 6pm, so we opted to try the thighs and steak sandwiches instead. The sandwiches were well-seasoned, though the bread they use is a bit too tough for me, and the steak was a bit tough to chew. We also tried the scallop entree, which comes with a beet salad, rice, and beans. The scallops themselves were rubbery and I personally wouldn't get again, but the red sauce was very flavorful and paired nicely with the rice. Salad and beans were nice additions.

It's street parking just heads up for y'all and it's a block away from the ocean. But the sandwich is honestly something i never knew I was missing in life. Their sauce is something I could bathe in with how well it pairs with their beef. I was as wet as the sandwich when i was done. Def bulk approved shrimp was good but not broke da mouth

Customer service was great, John the owner/manager/leader was dope and explained a lot of what they had to offer. The steak sandwich was really good and the Cuban was good with spice and some jalapeños and some salsa verde. I enjoyed the sandwich. Small restaurant with two benches inside for seating place was clean and inviting and the staff was friendly. Would recommend and definitely come back

Overall: amazing food and flavors. Would definitely come back! Food: 5/5 Cost effective and super yummy Scallops entree had nicely cooked scallops. Very tomato forward and earthy sauces. Nicely cooked rice. Beans came in a well balanced tangy and savory sauce. Caribbean roll came on a firm sourdough, pork shoulder was melt-in-your-mouth with a creamy white sauce to go with it. Ambiance: 4/5 Outdoor, casual, and clean Service: 4/5 Cashier was friendly and helped guide me through the options!

Yeah, there's a reason it's rated the #1 sandwich in Seattle. It's sweet, salty, tangy, spicy, rich, meaty, smoky, fresh, bright, all packed into a single sandwich. Talk about MOUTH WATERING! This sandwich was well worth the 30 minute drive out of downtown Seattle. The bright pink-and-green facade is unmistakable, and parking across the street was plentiful and made it easy to access the restaurant. We ordered the Caribbean roast and Palomilla steak sandwiches -- they were essentially the same (except for the protein), and while the pork is rated #1 I personally had a slight preference for the steak. All the same, we savored every last bite. Be prepared to get messy -- the juices get everywhere -- but it's a positive since you're left with your hands (and clothes if you spill!) smelling like meaty Caribbean goodness the rest of the afternoon. By far the best meal we had during our visit to Seattle. If I had to recommend one thing to eat in the Puget Sound, it's an Un Bien sandwich!!

Un bien has the BEST Caribbean sandwiches in the Seattle area. Yes better than Paseo. Came for a sunny weekday brunch and it was pretty crowded. A bit of a line to order, but nothing crazy. I ordered the signature sandwich which is so good and hits every single time. It's super juicy, flavorful, tender, the jalapeños the perfect amount of spice. 100/10 would order this again and again. The place has outdoor seating which was nice with the sunny weather. The other 90% of the seattle year... good luck LOL

We heard about this place from TikTok and glad we tried it out! The sauce they have in their ties perfectly with the meats and grilled onions. The grilled onions are to die for. I got The Press and Carribean roast, it was a 10/10! Parking could be scary because it's street parking, so keep that in mind. They have really quick service! Very casual ambiance, but make sure that you're ready to get your hands messy because it's really sloppy. Next time I go, I want to try the scallops. Try it out friends!

Delicious sandwiches! So unique in flavor and the onions were incredible! Everyone devoured their whole sandwich despite how large it was.

This is THE spot to come before Mariners games or nearby concerts and nobody can convince me otherwise. I've tried them several times in the past and now have my dad hooked as well. Their signature Caribbean Roast sandwich is absolutely phenomenal and I have the hardest time ordering anything else when I'm here. I have tried the nachos version of it before as well, and that's equally delicious. The key is definitely that succulent roasted pork. I will say that the sandwich version is MESSY so don't wear white, and also just be mindful if you have plans after. This year, my dad decided to order a pre-seasoned and smoked turkey from Paseo and my GODDD it was good! We made a gravy from the drippings as well which turned out so good too. We also get their street corn that was said to serve 4-6 but it was generous and we had leftovers. Absolutely a MUST try, 10/10 no notes. There's a reason they have received so much love over the years - no questions, no notes, JUST GO TRY THEM PLEASE.

The indoor space is really cute, but I was confused as to why everything was blocked off and restricted to takeout only. I ordered the famous Caribbean Roast sandwich and a side of rice and beans, which came to a little less than $30. While it's a good sandwich, it felt a bit heavy; I really found myself looking for more acid to cut through the fat and grease. I'm glad I was sharing with Jenny because it's quite a lot for one person. I also noticed toward the end that the bread was burnt. Overall, it's a solid sandwich, but between the stomach issues and the char, I'm not sure I'd go back.

It wasn't quite incredibly tender, but the marinade added an absolute ton of flavor. more importantly, it was present plentifully throughout the sandwich, so practically every bite came filled with pork I also have to mention how packed together the ingredients are between the buns. when you start eating, it's inevitable that a quarter of the ingredients will fall onto the wrap below, leaving a nice secondary meal to finish off after the sandwich is done. the sandwich is packed incredibly tight during the wrapping process, but it unravels a bit while eating. for me, the major highlights of this meal was the onions and the aioli Starting with the onions, these may be the best I've ever had on a sandwich. They're caramelized amazingly, placed onto the sandwich in astoundingly large pieces, are crunchy, and there's just a lot of them. They're just wonderful both texturally and taste-wise. This sandwich is absolutely lathered with aioli - practically dripping with it. This boosted the overall flavor so much, especially because this aioli was addictingly good. In my experience, the amount of sauce has been directly proportional to how much I enjoyed a sandwich, and when the sauce is this good - it's even on the top of the bun! - i absolutely loved it Somehow the lettuce stayed crunchy despite all the otherwise wetness going on in the sandwich. Props for that The jalapenos were great as well for that extra bit of spicy - I would've loved to have more of them while the bread was toasted well, the one downside was i thought it was pretty hard and tough, which made chewing kind of difficult. I found my jaw to be pretty tired at the end after eating this. I would've much preferred a softer roll that's easier to bite into I've had similar sandwiches from Paseo and Bongos, and in my opinion this does edge out both of those Comparing to Paseo, the sandwich there has way more oil, making it more sloppy and I do like the bread there a lot better, but the pork feels richer and better marinated here (although less fatty), and the onions are definitely caramelized better here as well. Bongos has a pretty similar level of pork with more, but onions are definitely a step down What moves this place above those two for me is the amount of aioli used here far exceeds those other places, which just makes the overall eating experience better For the price (about 14 dollars) this is a really filling meal

The Pollo al Carbon was not good at all. The chicken was smoked (dry) and the sauce underneath it taste like nothing. The veggies and potatoes were good though! The Hushpuppies tasted more like cinnamon and were simply not good. The Coco Greens tasted like kelp and coconut milk. Service was also decent! Our server was kind and friendly despite us returning the first thing that came out, the Hushpuppies. The drinks were made and sat for about 5mins after the bartender made them while our server was stocking silverware. I'll start with the beef, as it was the primary component of the dish. Despite it being flank steak, it was clearly simmered for a long time - and displayed none of the traditionally chewy or dry properties associated with the tougher cut. The sauce also helped - it was very well spiced, and had a slight tomato-like flavor. Mixing this with the yellow rice yielded something that was really satisfying to eat. The combination of sauce, beef, and rice was quite enjoyable, even with mixing the vegetables in for some extra crunch. The portion size of beef was crazy. When combined with the rice, the total amount of food here was solidly enough for two full meals. It is around 20 dollars for the dish, but I would classify that as a good value when you consider how much food you get. On the opposite side, I swapped the maduros out for fries. These...were not good. The fries tasted stale, hard, and not appealing at all. While the portion size was high, the appeal was not. The sauce that came with these was interesting at least. Overall, I think this is a very strong core dish at an impressive portion. Would recommend sticking with the plantains as a side though. 8.5/10
