I've been to Un Bien 15th Ave NW location (OG location) but this time I went to another location. I've gotten the #1 (their best seller) which is always delicious, so this time I decided to venture toward their seafood options. The pricing is pretty good for rice bowls (probably an underrated order, though slightly smaller portions to the sandwich). I got the seafood in red sauce and got the scallops, which was priced at $10.75 for a satisfying meal - not too big but not too small. Hard to find seafood dishes at this price point so I appreciate it being fairly accessible in price. The red sauce is like a Cajun like sauce but not spicy - it is very flavorful. The pickled cabbage adds a bit of tang to the dish to accentuate the flavors of the other ingredients. I tried a bite of my friend's fish of the day (Mahi mahi) sandwich which has similar fixings to the Caribbean pork sandwich - always love their garlic aioli and caramelized onions. As typical, their sandwiches are very juicy so definitely get your hands messy or try your best eating it with utensils. As someone that enjoys to not get my hands dirty, I'd still recommend using your hands to savor all the flavors evenly in the sandwich! Vary well may be the best sandwiches in Seattle. We dont eat much meat so my take may be off but if they can make a veggie sandwich this good then I have to imagine there other ones are great as well. We got the tofu delight and it was amazing. The mixture of caramelized onion, fried tofu, fresh bread, and sweet sauce was a perfect combo. The only bad thing is how messy it is which just means its not a first date place but if you can get passed that then it is 100% worth it. The line can get pretty long but it goes pretty quickly so the wait is never too bad. They have two benches for seating that could probably fit 12 people each so sometimes it gets full but they are easy to take on the go and with golden gardens right there it is a good spot to grab on the way. The atmosphere is nice as well. The color and lighting gives the tropical feel it was going for especially at night. The only thing I wish was a little different is the seating which would be super nice if it was a bit more open and had a verity of seating but its a small gripe for a great place. Parking is pretty reasonable since north of it doesnt fill up too quickly but its still seattle so im sure that depends on the day. read more

As we could tell they seemed the same, except one of them has tofu. As for atmosphere, it is a small, open air picnic table type seating area, so there is very limited seating and at peak mealtimes it might be difficult to find a seat, but people are usually willing to share a table. The vegetarian selection was limited, but I would definitely get the tofu delight again. I wish they had more vegetarian options, and also think they should add a compost, because it'd be easy to compost most of the material required to wrap the sandwiches. First time trying this relative of Paseo's which was the original. The sandwich was delicious and no real discernible difference from Paseo - juicy, full of flavor, and just as messy as I remembered. The West Caribbean bowl was somewhat of a letdown. The chips were soggy and not packed separately like they do at Paseo, and there wasn't an option for the roast pork instead of chicken thigh. We ordered the Caribbean roast and Palomilla steak sandwiches -- they were essentially the same (except for the protein), and while the pork is rated #1 I personally had a slight preference for the steak. All the same, we savored every last bite. You could honestly go to Un Bien, get nothing but rice and beans, and be perfectly content. They don't know how to miss. It's all hits and no flops. All slaps and no slops. I've tried just about everything on the menu at this point and I make no exaggeration. They focus heavily on the sandwiches, and my personal favorite is the chicken breast, but you can't go wrong with the popular Caribbean roast (pulled pork), classic press, or my second favorite, the steak. The prawns are also amahhzing, and they do NOT mess around on the spice (you choose the heat level). Per the theme here, the entrees are good too. They come with more meat than the sandwiches, rice, a superb salad, and their incomprehensibly good black beans...but you miss out on the orgasmic caramelized onions and perfect Macrina baguette that you get with the sandwich. Now, that's a painful choice and I don't envy you, but the good news is you'll have no regrets either way. When you're extra hungry, get a side of rice (and beans if you're feeling frisky) with your sandwich, then hold the sandwich over the rice as you eat. Now play a fun little game I like to call "keep stuff in the sandwich," which you will inevitably and repeatedly lose. Then when you finish the sandwich...you win! Because all of those beautiful drippings and droppings (plus them beans) have now assembled as a rice bowl, your second meal. Look at you! Also, the corn is a MUST if it's in season.
