I have gone to UEV (Ultimate Eye Care) for close to 10 years. I have never liked their pressure to purchase glasses from them. I have always purchased glasses from Walmart or Costco with absolutely no problems in past 30 years. This past March I went in for an eye exam because I was having trouble seeing on my current prescription. The doctor told me that my prescription had changed but did not say it had gotten better. Due to work and family issues I wasn't able to pick out new glasses until May. Because I work from home I don't get out much I hadn't driven at night, and it seemed like the glasses were working fine. About 2 weeks ago I was driving at night and could not see street signs. When I went to Costco to question if my glasses were the correct prescription, they showed me that the prescription I got from 2 years ago at UEC had improved compared to prescription that was currently on the glass lens. I went into Ultimate Eye Care to explain that I was having trouble seeing and was wearing my old glasses with the stronger prescription. They set up a pair of glasses to the new prescription and asked me if I could see down the hall. I'm not having trouble seeing down the hall I'm having trouble seeing street signs at night! I'm being told there's something wrong with the quality of the glasses at Costco even though I have never had a problem with the last two pairs of glasses that I've gotten there in the past 6 years. Costco checked the level and said that the glass prescription does match what the doctor wrote, And my eyes lined up correctly with it when wearing the glasses. Ultimate eye Care admits that the Costco glasses match what the doctor wrote. I said OK, I want the prescription that I had prior to this prescription because I can see with it. I was then told that there would be a $68 charge to have another eye exam because it had been over 3 months. While I understand that my eyes could change in 3 months, the fact that I'm able to see from my older stronger prescription leads me to believe that I need to have my older prescription back or I need to be re-examined to see if my eyes match the older prescription. For all I know it could have been recorded incorrectly by the doctor or their assistant, I cannot remember if somebody was in there typing things in for the doctor or not after all it's been 3 months. Either way they are both human and these things can happen. Due to their faulty logic of insisting that my eyes improved in March but are now just as bad as they were before I even came in March, I have decided that I am never going back again and I am recommending that the other 5 members of my family no longer come there. I can't see well when driving at night and now I'm out $500 for sunglasses regular daytime glasses and computer glasses by having to pay for a new eyeglass prescription and new glasses that were purchased with this inadequate prescription. Well, I was a customer of their's since they opened. Really, I found them to be personable, efficient, and it was about the location, super close to home. Agree that they chase extra fees, but they'd always been flexible with glasses adjustments, etc. I had been given some daily lenses to try out while travelling a few months ago. I really liked them, but figured I'd stick with what I have, and decide at next exam if I wanted to change. Then, I found I had extra in my health spending account, so decided to pull the trigger on getting dailies. I decided to try out one of those online discount lens brokers, just for the heck of it. So, I got a call from Denise at Ultimate Eye Care, telling me that they were denying my request from the lens broker (800 contacts). I told her I wasn't trying to "betray" them, just thought I'd give this online thing a try. Well, she sure told me. First she told me that not only would they require another exam (who knew you had to have an exam to change lens brands?), she also told me that they would never approve anything more than 6 months of lenses, if that. (funny, since they always sell me a year's worth). Next, Denise told me that she understood that maybe I didn't have the money, and "with the economy and all", so basically, I probably couldn't afford daily wear anyway. I was really pissed off at that. Um, thanks Denise for commenting on my economic status of which you know NOTHING, and I think I already explained that I was trying to use my Health Care spending account balance before the end of the year. I was really amazed that not once did she say, hey, I get that you want to try the online thing, but here's the deal, you have to come in for us to prescribe that lens type, then the Doctor will be happy to work with you for the rest. Nope, she was smug and rude, and not helpful. And so, I have a new eye doctor, a new prescription, and my lenses are on their way from the online retailer. UEC has lost a customer. Business name should be Ultimate Eye Scam. I'm astonished by the unethical business practice I experienced from Ultimate Eyecare!! I will never ever go back here. If you're even considering coming here, don't!!! You will regret it. I had my eye exam for contacts and lenses. Ultimate eye care price gauges you on anything that is not covered by your vision insurance. I have vision insurance but still paid far too much over what my insurance covered. Seventeen days before my prescription expired, I ordered contacts online from an online retailer which cost half the price of what Ultimate Eyecare charges. I have a printed copy of my prescription ---yet still Ultimate Eye Care claimed that my prescription had expired so that the online company could not sell me these contacts!!! Unbelievable, they falsified paperwork to deny an online seller from getting my business!!! Guess what, I have a printed copy of my prescription, emails which prove your falsified paperwork and will take this to the Better Business Bureau and KXAN investigates to expose your unethical business practices!!!!! Ultimate Eyecare wants to monopolize all their customer's purchases by forcing them to buy directly from UE and nowhere else!! UE burned two days blocking the online retailer from selling to me. Well, I still have 15 days with my valid prescription to buy from another optical business locally. You can be sure that there's no way I'm going back to your office!!!! Shame on you UE. read more

This place is fast - for everything. I called in as a new patient and they were able to get me in later that afternoon. I started to complete my paperwork in the lobby, and my name was already called. She told me I could just take the paperwork with me and continue filling it out as I waited on the doctor. I completed preliminary tests and then went to a patient room. The doctor was very thorough - still quick. I will return to Ultimate Eye Care for all things vision. My insurance pays for my vision care, so I cannot speak to the affordability. read more

This a review for the Mopac/Parmer location. Stay away, stay far far away. There are plenty of options in the Austin area that you are bound to find some other place far better than this establishment. I went in in mid April 2018 to make use of employer provided eye insurance. The exam went fine and I opted to get new lenses for my glasses. I have been wearing glasses since I was 8 years old. They have always taken somewhere between 1.5 to 2 weeks. My new lenses from Ultimate Eye care took over a month. And the kicker - until I called 2 weeks later to check on the status of my glasses, I honestly do not believe that any one in the office would have called to inform me about the delay. And on top of it all, they informed me: "Oh, this and that was not covered by your insurance so if you want it, it will be extra." Seriously, how do you not have access to what the insurance company will and will not cover?! And when I finally wore my glasses one of the lenses fell out! I took it to another lens lab and they fixed it for free. Ultimate Eye Care took over a month with my lenses and could not even set them correctly in the frame. I have rarely written reviews because I choose to vote first and foremost with my wallet, but my experience with the shoddy service at Ultimate Eye care is well deserving of some keyboard time. That being stated, the filters on Yelp will probably relegate me to the depths of hidden reviews because the filters are arbitrary to the nth degree. read more

The doctors and team are highly trained and skilled. Ultimate Eye Care goes so much further. Your experience is personal. The doctors and staff go out of their way to make sure you are cared for and cared about. I specifically see Dr. Vaughn Brinegar and can't say enough good things about the level of care she provides. My interactions with Dr. Jerry Brinegar and Dr. Victoria DeFeo suggest they both offer the same high level of personal care. I suffer from late onset keratoconus and been amazed at the level of knowledge and expertise Dr. Brinegar has and commitment to learning about constant advancements and how they can benefit her patients. Noticing my eyesight is not what it was, I scheduled an appointment with Dr DeFeo. Prior to my arrival, I was able to fill out patient history and medical forms online. Once at the office, I was quickly taken to the examination area where the outgoing and personable staff performed several tests to measure my current eye strength. After my examination, I was promptly seen by Dr DeFeo where she took a personal approach to interacting and explaining technical/medical terms in an easy to understand manner. Finally, Daren was patient and listened to my general thoughts to help find a pair of frames that fit both my face and my personality. This place is a rip off (Avery Ranch location). I spent so much money on glasses/exam/contacts because my insurance according to them didn't cover anything. I was told that my vision insurance coverage wouldn't apply because it only covered a certain tier and this office only used the best (a whole other tier). What kind of crap is that? Sounds like an excuse not to use patients' insurance. Their frames are cheap too. After six months of usage, my frames fell apart twice. They told me the manufacturer can't tell how a pair of frames is going to come out. What a lame excuse. I guess I got a bad pair, right? This business is unethical and shameful! They scammed me. My husband was examined by Dr. DeFeo on two separate occasions. She prescribed glasses and we chose to have the prescription filled else where, thankfully! After trying to adjust to this new prescription, we took them to Ultimate Eye Care and they checked to make sure they were the correct prescription, they said they were. He continued to wear them and could not see, so we returned them to where we bought them and were refunded our money. On top of all this were informed that our insurance did not cover all the charges to Ultimate Eye Care, after sitting in their offices on two different occasions, waiting for our insurance to be verified! Dr. Jerry Brinegar is simply AMAZING! He is thorough, professional and informative. Every question I had, he had an answer for. He also taught me what to look out for with symptoms. The tests were gentle and he checked out my entire eye including the eyelids to ensure I didn't have any cysts, etc. He makes me feel like he genuinely cares about my eyes and their health. We explored several different contact brands too which is really helpful since I have very high astigmatism and dry eyes. He is also very responsive to any messages I leave him and doesn't leave me wondering for days or feeling like I am being ignored (which is what I experience with so many other doctors but NOT with Dr. Brinegar). read more

The staff: The younger woman and the doctor are nice. The younger woman went above and beyond to workout my complicated insurance. The lady at the front who doesn't where glasses is rude to customers, doesn't greet people and talks down to the other girl in front of customers, which is uncomfortable. The guy who helps with glasses, Dan, is incredibly rude and makes sure you are aware you are inconveniencing him. He should not be dealing with people. My experience: The first time I went in asking to get new lens for my glasses, instead they tried to up sell me on a $600 lens. Then I had to go back because we never even talked about the lens for my glasses. Then once I ordered contacts they gave the wrong power as one eye was very blurry- either the doctor wrote it down wrong or the wrong power was ordered. Unfortunately, on the phone I got Dan who seemed to enjoy telling me everything he can't do for me before I could even finish my sentence. He said even though I just ordered contacts, my exam was 4 months ago so they won't take them back and if I want to have the doctor confirm my prescription I have to pay for another exam and they'll get me an appointment in 2 weeks. I called Cedar Park Vision, got in same day and those doctors confirmed I was given the wrong prescription and now I can see. It would be nice to get a refund for the 90 day pack in my right eye that is not my prescription!!! read more

I've waited a long time to write this review, because I wanted to allow myself some emotional distance from the experience to hopefully write a less biased review. Several years ago, I visited Ultimate Eye Care and had an appointment with Dr. DeFeo. I told her about my history of vision problems and childhood eye surgery for strabismus and asked her if she thought my case would be better served by an ophthalmologist. She said no, that she could take care of everything I needed. She changed my brand of contacts, updated my prescription, and put me in a trial pair. After several days of wear, I reported that the contacts were painful, didn't feel like they fit correctly, and were causing me to have lots of redness and eye discharge. She told me the problem was the contact solution I was using and switched me to a different (much more expensive) kind of solution. After several more days of painful wear, she tried switching the contacts again and told me to give it a few weeks for me to "get used to them." Still more painful wear, discharge, etc. and the only time they could get me back in was *conveniently* more than 30 days from my initial appointment, so I had to pay a whole new fitting fee. At this visit she told me that my symptoms were because of "seasonal allergies." I do not have any seasonal allergies. I resigned myself to the fact that contacts just weren't working for me, and decided to just get glasses. When I requested that they print out a copy of my glasses prescription so that I could go buy glasses elsewhere, they were extremely rude. Fast forward two years, and I have now been diagnosed with strabismus (what my childhood surgeries were for) and keratoconus (a degenerative eye disease). Within 15 minutes of my first appointment with my new optometrist, he said, "You have several advanced issues that are outside my scope of expertise. I will need to refer you to an ophthalmologist." The reason the contacts that Dr. DeFeo had given me didn't work was because the shape of my eye is cone-like and does not work with conventional soft contact lenses. It was not "seasonal allergies." When I told him that Dr. DeFeo hadn't mentioned anything about these issues to me, he said there was no way that someone who performed the exam properly and took the time to really look at my eyes could have missed the signs of these issues. In my opinion, Ultimate Eye Care cares much more about profit than they do about eye health. I cannot in good conscience recommend Ultimate Eye Care or Dr. DeFeo to anyone. If I had sought a second opinion after my first negative experience at Ultimate, I would have been able to receive appropriate treatment earlier. read more

I hate it when places nickel and dime you, and this place does just that. The optometrist wanted me to take all of these extra 'precautionary' tests, but when I talked to my previous ophthalmologist, he didn't think it was necessary for me to do that. I'm sure if my insurance covered these 'precautionary' tests, then they surely wouldn't recommend me to take them. I also get annoyed when I have to call THEM to follow-up and see whether or not my contacts have come in yet. This is my first, and last time, I will be going to this place. read more

I was a long time client and would have hoped that this office would have worked with me, but instead they are unwilling to accept insurance from patients if you have had a late payment. Be warned, they called the day before my kids appt to tell me I had to pay in full, and get reimbursed by insurance! If that was the policy I should have been informed when they were payed, and when I set the appt, not the day before the appt. Now my kids start school without glasses because I can't get them in anywhere else. I just can't recommend them at all, unless you pay in cash for all of your dr visits, then I'm sure they will be very accommodating. read more

Our family has been going to them for about 4 years. I never have really liked the office atmoshphere or the people working behind the desk. Always a hassle when they are checking the insurance. Every appointment they check our insurance that has been invalid since 2010. Not sure why they even keep that information in the file. Also they are really pushy about getting glasses with them. I do not like their selection, and when you tell them you are going somewhere else for glasses, they flat out argue with you. read more

Complete incompetence by the front office staff. I scheduled my appointment about two weeks ago and was told their had been a change to their ability to accept Superior Vision, but they were working on it an would book my appointment then call to confirm everything was set. Well my appointment day came so I showed up at the appropriate time only to be told they tried to call patients with Superior, but did not get to it. They proceeded to ask (in a matter of fact tone) if I still wanted to see the Doctor by paying for it without insurance. A simple call before my appointment telling me they had not yet set up Superior would have completely fixed the problem. Instead they completely spit on the value of my time and I am now faced with an end of the year crunch to spend my FSA. Never again! read more

Dr, Bringegar and his staff were very friendly. I originally gave them a high review on Zoc Doc, until I realized my eye exam had been hastily performed and my vision isn't "the same" as he said it was. I walked out of his office feeling slightly disappointed when he said my vision was the same because I felt like it could be much better. 3 months later, I went to a different eye doctor, and without mentioning my concern, he upped my Rx significantly to where I can see clearly now. Dr. Brinegar wasted my time and $. Despite having good bed-side manner, my experience was ruined by his lack of thoroughness and attention to my vision. read more

I love this place! Dr Brinegar is awesome. She diagnosed me with an eye condition that none of my previous optometrists had noticed (lattice degeneration, using their optomap camera). The staff is always kind and friendly. I have never had a problem getting an appointment. A few weeks ago I had some disturbing vision symptoms... Dr Brinegar saw me right away, and spent more time than was necessary doing a full exam and talking with me about all the results. I have been using Ultimate Eye Care for three years, and would not go anywhere else. They also helped a friend of mine get new frames when his broke - at a ridiculously low cost! I tried several different contacts before I found the right ones. I called and gave the strength for both eyes and paid for them. When I received my contacts...the right eye was the wrong strength. I ordered a 4.0 and got a 3.75. Then when I brought it to their attention Jim said he would overnight it and I would get it on a Wed... I didn't get them until that Friday. I won't be back! I left this same review on their Facebook page but apparently they didn't like the negative review so they shut their Facebook page down. read more

I would definitely recommend Ultimate Eye Care. We usually go as a family to the one on Mopac. I've never felt rushed there like some places. I know I've kept them late more then once since I was the last patient and yet they have always been polite and courteous. We usually spend around 250ish there on our glasses. The manager was very rude. He lacks empathy and communication skills. I have never had to deal with a manager who showed no regard for the client. This isn't the first time I have experienced his unprofessionalism. It's unfortunate because the doctors are great. This manager felt the need to imply he was firing me as a client by saying we were not a good fit. I'm hoping the owner doesn't condone this kind of unprofessionalism as I would hope that a business would not be firing a client upon the managers discussion. read more

If I could give NEGATIVE stars I would. This business engages in deceptive billing practices and unethical behavior. Specifically, I used VSP insurance for a routine exam. Dr. Vaughn Brinegar discovered something that required additonal testing. Upon additional testing, I was given the terrifying diagnosis that I needed to come back ASAP because I could very likely end up with a detached retina! At check out, the staff initially tried to tell me my medical insurance was going to cover this visit instead of VSP - first I'd heard. When I questioned this, Dr. Brinegar was standing right there and said "No, just use the VSP. But your next visit will go to your medical insurance." Upon reflection and advice from my spouse, I cancelled my followup appoint with Dr. Brinegar (who is only an Optometrist) and made one with an Retinologist/Opthamologist (the kind who attend actual medical school and with a specialty of the retina). So imagine my shock to receive a HUGE bill from Ultimate Eye Care. Seems they didn't like that, after being terrorized into believing a detached retina was likely imminent, I went with a prominent local specialist. So, they changed their mind about their billing just to screw me, their patient. In future, I had every intention for routine visits to return, just not for this serious issue. After then calling to work something out, they very nastily agreed to waive my portion of the medical claim they'd submitted, told me to find a new doctor, and I thought that was the end of it. But no. Imagine my further surprise to learn: (1) Dr. Brinegar's diagnosis was completely incorrect and she'd terrified me for no reason and (2) Ultimate Eye Care went ahead and submitted an additional claim to VSP, too (so they double-dipped to obtain money from both insurance companies). Incompetent and greedy, unethical behavior and deceptive billing. Tell me, does this sound like a practice you'd trust your eyes to?? read more

After some initial confusion with a few phone calls, this was a great experience. The new patient forms were available on-line and they were able to accommodate a new patient appointment in the same week. My husband was the patient and stated that it was the most thorough appointment he had ever had. I unfortunately had already had an exam with my previous doctor (left because of insurance change and their incompetent front desk person), however Ultimate Eye Care was so kind as to use the remainder of my insurance benefits to purchase lenses through them with my previous doctor's script. They even had the lenses in stock. They also are quite competitively priced as they told me their fee for an exam for an uninsured person was $65 less than my previous doctor and that was with my 20% discount from them. Wow! I will give them a try when I'm due for another exam. read more

Our family has been going to Ultimate Eye Care for quite some time for our yearly eye exams. What I really like about this place is that it the doctors are very approachable and knowledgeable. Plus they are "local" so we can see each other on a grocery run and they know who I am The staff is great, the place is clean. The equipment seems to keep getting better. The only slight downside is that their selection of frames is a little low compared to a Lens Crafters. However you can always buy from Lens Crafters/Warby Parker and they can do the lens.
