Chana bhatura
Pranathi B.

This kept popping up on my Yelp over the past few days and I had to try it. I love the original ulavacharu restaurant as well just down the road. Anyway, we stopped by to try some of the snacks and sweets. Got bhelpuri, chana batura and pav bhaji. Bhelpuri: very mediocre. It's dry and has excessive crushed puri pieces in it. There are no elements to amp it up further like cucumber, green mango or green moong lentils. Pav bhaji: thankfully the pav was not soaked in butter but I didn't appreciate the use of food color in the bhaji. The bhaji felt a little bland and tomatoey as well. Chana batura: this was the best dish. The batura were beautifully fluffed up and not oily. The Chana was delicious. They served everything in paper utensils (thankfully not plastic). They have a lot of sweets for purchase as well. My kids got the cashew burfi and reported that it was mediocre. Overall 3.5 but rounding upto 4 as they are still new.

Bhel puri 5/5

10/10 loved the food, ambiance and the service. Despite this being a new place and having not many reviews, there was quite the crowd that trickled in on Sunday evening at ~5.30 PM. The food appeared to be prepared fresh and was the right temperature for most dishes. What we tried: 1. Bhel puri - the mamra/kurmura was still crunch with cold chutneys, boiled potatoes , onions, tomatoes and crush puris for crunch. 5/5 2. Aloo samosa - piping hot! The stuffing inside was so well spiced and tasty. Loved the sweet tamarind chutney it was served with. I didn't like the green chutney personally. The cover of the samosa was crispy but had some cracks which makes me think they freeze their samosa and fry on demand. 4/5 3. Bombay sandwich- grilled sandwich with standard Bombay sandwich vegetables including beet root. Some light grated Amul cheese on top really makes this sandwich very close to grill sandwiches from Mumbai. Best so far compared to other Bay Area places doing sandwiches. 5/5 4. Their newly opened live pani puri station- the puri was crispy and fresh. Ragda was not as hot as expected though, next time I will ask them to heat it up even more. The puri was filled with ragda and green/spicy pani and the sweet chutney was optional which you could add on your own. There is also an option to add chopped red onions and grated carrot to pani puri which is not a thing for Mumbai pani puri but I guess other places in India eat it this way. 4/5 Overall a great new addition to Bay Area and the UlavacharU brand. I am impressed with their diversification strategy on how their original restaurant has the best paneer biryani and a decent buffet, their tiffins restaurant variation has good idli, dosa and uttapam along with good sweets and now this place excels in chaat, other snacks and sweets. I can't wait to come back to try other items on the menu next time.

Eggless Butterscotch Cake
Ashish S.

Ordered a custom eggless butterscotch cake. It looked exactly like the picture I shared and was divine in taste! Everyone in the party asked for the bakery details. Best part - Sethuraman the polite and kind Chef - who spent the time on each detail and made the perfect cake. Every party in my home will have his cake from this day. Highly recommend!

Recently we ordered 5 different cakes from this place. All of them are beautifully done and very tasty. The Baker, Sethuraman really made them to my instructions and had them ready for the time we wanted. amazing cakes and Service. so please ask for Sethuraman if you plan to order cakes here.

We got a birthday cake . Sethuraman was very helpful in getting the order just like how we wanted.

I walked in confused, expecting a cake and snack place. Instead I was greeted with a smile. Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate!!! Amazingly, surprised and shocked of the floral flavors. LUCKY ME! The lady that made the chocolate was in the store talking to me!!!!! She hand made all of them. All of them! Wow! If you are chocolate lover, you gotta try all of them! The mango yogurt drink was yummy delicious too. As for the appetizer, Vada PAV!!!!!!! OMG!!!! so good, flavorful, and filling.

The place was situated in a quiet plaza just outside of Lawrence Expressway. There's ample parking but it doesn't feel like the location is suitable for a cafe where you can picture sitting inside looking through some big windows facing a busy pedestrian walkway. However, once I stepped inside, I was surprised at how zen and peaceful the decorations were and how fitting it was for a cozy and quiet cafe hangout. The cake shelf was surprisingly busy. And this is where I took one star out because the lines were confusing and the staff skipped me to talk to the group behind me while I was clearly the next to be helped. Luckily another staff member came out from the back kitchen and jumped in to help. The staff spoke fluent mandarin. I was interested in their box cakes. A few of the yelpers raved about their soy milk cake and luckily they had one out for sampling. It was covered with lots of cream and the cake layer was soft and moist, but it was still slightly too sweet for me and I felt that it lacked the tofu kind of soy flavor. Then, I spotted on their menu that they have a black sesame matcha box cake, and black sesame is always my favorite, so I asked for it. They had the last one left! The staff said she had never tried it so she couldn't tell me if it is less sweet than the soy milk cake. Since it was the last one available and I already sampled the soy cake, I decided to give it a try. I am happy that I did. The cake was filled with matcha mousse and tasted light and aromatic with the jasmine kind of matcha flavor. It is definitely less sweet. Unfortunately, it doesn't have as much black sesame as I'd like. But overall, the cake flavor is the kind that I like, subtle, moist, and not too sweet. $38 for a box cake of 4x4 is a bit pricey, but I'm glad that I gave it a try. The cakes were freshly made and tasted best the same day of purchase. They also recommend refrigerating the cake and consuming it within a day or two.

I kept seeing posts about whaT's More cake's persimmon cakes, so I decided to give them a try. I preordered the persimmon molten cake and the persimmon crepe cake through their website. The online ordering process was smooth, and both cakes were ready right on time for pickup. Unfortunately, the persimmon molten cake was disappointing. While I appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet, it was very mild in flavor. It tasted more like a simple sponge cake with a persimmon filling in the center, and overall, it felt quite underwhelming. In contrast, the persimmon crepe cake was much better. Each layer had persimmon cream and jam, which gave it a stronger and more pronounced persimmon flavor without being overly sweet. Overall, it's a cute cake shop worth checking out if you're looking for unique flavors in the South Bay. Parking: Plenty of parking available in the lot.

I wished it had more toppings or something inside that was sweeter, but mostly it just tasted like chalky cocoa powder. Not very sweet and not in a good way. I usually wouldn't get this flavor and would get fruit so maybe that makes the difference. Was it the worst? No. The shave ice part was delicate and the portion was what you would expect. But I wouldn't attempt any chocolate ones again if I did come back here. It's lacking something. As for the inside, it's a spacious place with plenty of seating which is nice, although the music feels a little loud. The service is pretty straight forward here as you can order from a kiosk or up front, and there are screens that show which order number is finished around the restaurant. The bathroom was clean. Overall, wouldn't say it's bad but I'm not sure if I can recommend.

The store doesn't have the most comfortable ambiance: fluorescent light, hard furniture, and it gets pretty loud. However, the dessert is so worth it. I highly recommend the mango chewy ball dessert. Is Izumi matcha worth the hype?…read more I have been to Izumi matcha over ten times at this point and remember first trying it in their original location in the silver creek area of San Jose before the matcha boom. Prior this place was unique and delicious, and really hit a spot. I believe that now with the various matcha spots around, it may not have as much as of unique selling point. Their tornado matcha is good and sweet, and is a great dessert however in my personal opinion, their traditional drinks are not standouts. Last week I went with a friend and ordered a matcha oat latte with a double shot, and while I tasted the matcha, it was grainy and didn't really have any depth. I wouldn't say I would avoid going here, for a matcha option and to get caffeinated for the day. It is still an option but I feel like it wouldn't be fair to say it's worth driving over 30+ minutes here. As a note too, this location can get extremely busy in terms of parking! The plaza is popping with heavy hitters. Service was fine as they do the self service kiosk with pick up being less than 5 minutes (no big lines), and the store itself is small with no seating outside but plenty of plaza seating outside.
