the food is super good!!! there's so many options, and a ton of bread ones which is great. lots of vegetarian options which is great. the prices were very good and so were the serving sizes! we went on a friday afternoon, and it wasn't busy so we got sat super quick. our server was sukhmandeep, and he was great! he was super helpful and polite, our food got out fast and he checked to make sure our order was right and everything was good. because we lack spice tolerance, we ordered everything mild/no spice and he was very accommodating and nonjudgment with that.

House Thali

It has been a while since we visited Chaat Bhavan. Bhel thali used to be a default order on most visits earlier. This time I ordered regular thali. So underwhelmed with the items on the thali. Except for dal and dal makhani, not a single item tasted good. Previously we used to see khadi/chole/paneer dishes on the thali. The rest two curries were aalo stir fry and another aalo curry. There was a halwa and another namesake dessert, seemed like diluted version of rabdi with nothing in there. Completely disappointed with this when I was hoping to eat their nostalgic thali. Samosa chaat too lacked chole. Disproportionally more samosa than chole.

Food, service and ambiance is always great! House Thali is one of my go-tos since u c get little of everything. We are usually the only non-Indian people dining (so u know it's authentic and good)

Heard a lot about chaat Bhavan and decided to give a try. Service was pretty good and servers were attentive and quick. Place was clean, and organized. Now coming to food, ordered dahi batata chaat (very good), hara bhara bhel (average), veg lollypop (pretty good) and a sandwich (average). Overall food was ok but I have had better in the Bay Area.

Chana samosa

I have been here more times than I care to admit. Catered almost 3-4 times as well. Food used to be excellent, this was the gold standard to compare against other restaurants. But over the years the quality has fallen down. I catered for an office event as well and it ended up being disastrous. Our most recent dining experience was literally eye opening to make us realize this place wasn't what it used to be. I have a hunch that their best/star chef keeps moving to their newest location leaving behind the other branches with recipes which the cooks can barely replicate. Anyway, this time we got Chana batura, chole kulcha, Chana samosa and, just for kicks, Hakka noodles. The dishes were bland across the board and the Hakka noodles were floating in oil.

Chole Bhatura

I was craving Chole Bhatura and found this place close by on Uber Eats. I compared the price for the same dish at a couple of other places and this place seemed reasonable. The place is in a small strip mall in Sunnyvale and has ample parking, when I went to pick up the food, it was later in the afternoon and it was not too crowded. This place is vegetarian and has an extensive menu - chaat and regular dishes. You can ask for spicy or not spicy and I picked spicy and boy was it spicy! I got a good size container of chaat and 2 bhaturas. I asked for some mint and tamarind chutney and they gave me 2 small containers without any question. I was prepared to pay but didn't need to. There is only inside seating and the place was not full. The tables are well spaced out and service was prompt. My food was ready when I got there and it was piping hot. The bhatura itself was soft and chewy and the chole was very tasty but watch out if you ask for spicy, it may be too spicy for some people to handle. It was too spicy for me but I still enjoyed the food. Looking forward to exploring their menu more!

Stopped by Chaat Bhavan for dinner and it was popping Saturday night around 8:30 when my friend and I dropped by. We snagged one of the last tables. It's a vegetarian restaurant with a large selection of chaat and snacks as well as curries. Please note that a large number of items on their menu are starred as Jain, which means no onions or garlic, so keep that in mind when you order. My friend and I shared one of our favorites - chana bhatura ($12.99) - as well as one paneer bhurji roll with plain paratha ($13.99). We liked the bhatura, but the chana / chickpea curry tasted like something was missing. We thought it might've been because it was made the Jain way with no onion and garlic. Neither of us liked the paneer bhurji roll. It was super bland, for one, and incredibly oily. Would recommend skipping this.

Vegetable Biryani

Chat bhavan never disappoints on choices and service . Ordered veg biryani to go . Comes with Salan and Raitha . Loved the flavor but was too much potatoes filling the box ..

Masala soda

Decent food. We mainly came here for chaat. They have an extensive selection of food. We got the vada pav, dahi batata sev puri, the sabudana vada and the mixed veg pakoras with masala chai and masala soda. Everything was well-made but we would have liked the sabudana vadas to be bigger. They were more like small patties. The chaat isn't out of the world mind blowing but it is good enough. Their servers need to coordinate or at least look up orders before approaching tables. We were asked twice if we wanted to order something when we already had.

Terrible experience! I had some random person use my loyalty account and redeem $14 on my account and I haven't been to this place in 2+ years !!! I wasted 45 minutes of my life trying to get this fixed and the manager was unapologetic and basically said stuff like this happens - there is no way of checking and my point was -- don't you check on the name of the person you are redeeming the points for -- they put the loyalty points back in my account like they were doing me a favor. Very disappointed with this place

Merit Vegan Restaurant - #30 BBQ Vermicelli - very good

Clear broth, comes with an assortment of vegan proteins, and it's been consistent every single time over the years. Best had in cold weather. The spicy noodle soup is solid too but it doesn't hit the same way. The SP4 gourmet deluxe is my other staple and I order it like an appetizer. The protein comes out fried with a crispy shell and soft inside. The sauce leans hard on lemongrass and citrus but it's savory throughout, not sweet. Haven't had anything like it anywhere else. Orange nuggets are chewy with a citrusy and sweet glaze. Good enough that I skip the actual appetizers for these. The Szechuan Pineapple is spicy, salty, and savory with chewy gluten and a citrus undertone running through it. Green papaya salad is strictly sour and tangy. Fresh, nothing heavy about it. Sweet potato curry is definitely underrated. Potato goes soft all the way through and the whole thing tastes hearty without being heavy. Basil eggplant tofu skews sweet and the eggplant goes silky and it's a family favorite. Eggplant claypot has the same idea but the sauce is better and it comes out in the claypot which makes it feel like a proper dish. Jalapeno BBQ seitan was a miss. The BBQ sauce tastes flat. Staff is friendly and food comes out fast.

Had the BBQ Vermicelli bowl and was thoroughly satisfied. It's a big portion, hits all the marks for veggie varieties, and tasted super fresh (even for takeout). I only came to get takeout but would for sure come back to dine in. The staff I interacted with were very friendly and the vibe was good.

Nice little vegetarian lunch spot that I keep forgetting is out there! I came with my veg coworker…read moreand we both enjoyed what we got. I got their ja jang mien, and I really liked it--especially the thick, chewy noodles! My coworker got General Tso's, and we also got some veggie dumplings to share. The dumplings were a bit on the bland side, but otherwise good. Service was relatively quick. The interior is clean and well kept (I guess more than you'd think looking at the little strip it is part of), and the wait staff are friendly. The parking lot for the strip mall this is in is on the small side, though, and may be tough to find parking during the lunch rush if you don't arrive early (and I would highly suggest carpooling). Tasty and friendly, I need to remember to suggest this place for lunch more often over the closer places we tend to think of first! I will definitely be back!

I was running some errands nearby, so I decided to grab takeout. I went with General's Chicken and…read moreBlack Pepper Chicken Chow Mein. When I arrived, there were plenty of parking spots, and the restaurant was empty. The parking lot is a bit small, so I imagine it can be tricky to find a spot when it's busy. I can't say much about the ambiance or service because it was a quick in-and-out experience. When I got to my car, I immediately vented the General's Chicken container and left the plastic bag open because I wanted to make sure it was still crispy when I got home. Note to the restaurant: I really appreciate when restaurants cut holes in the corners of containers for crispy/fried foods to keep them from getting too soggy. Having some venting for the steam to escape really helps. General's Chicken was my go-to before I went vegan, so I was really excited to find a vegan version. When I ordered on DoorDash, the General's Chicken had three spice levels: Medium, Mild, and Spicy. I went with Spicy, but the sauce didn't taste spicy to me at all. It was also super gingery, which I'm not used to. The sauce wasn't bad, but it didn't remind me of the typical General Tso sauce I'm used to. That said, I did enjoy the crispy texture, broccoli, and bell peppers. I'd rate this a 3.5/5. Yelp AI mentioned that the Black Pepper Chicken was the highest-rated item, so I decided to try the Black Pepper Chicken Chow Mein. At first bite, I was unsure of it, but as I kept eating, I enjoyed it more and more. I love that they include so many veggies, it really adds to the dish. I would give this a 4/5. Overall, I thought the food was good. I can definitely see myself ordering other items from here next time I get a craving for Chinese takeout.

So definitely no complaints. The venue itself is great, surprisingly kids friendly (lots of games and things to do), food (primarily Mexican) is excellent, beer and alcohol selection superb, probably a really good place to watch San Jose Sharks games and the Caddy Shack photos in the bathroom was a nice touch.
