Tried this place for the first time, hoping to be adventurous and try a new restaurant while we were extremely hungry. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a disappointing experience. The portion sizes of the curries in the thali were ridiculously small. There were also numerous flies around our table, which made the dining experience quite unpleasant. To make matters worse, our second thali order was mistakenly delivered to another table, and no one bothered to apologize for the delay or acknowledge the mistake. I've driven past this place so many times and was excited to finally try. I didn't know what all the dishes were that were listed only in the menu inside as it changes daily from what I understood. I had read about the thali but it seems they were out so I ended up getting the masala puri. It came out piping hot and was tasty. Lots of flavor albeit on the spicer side, even as someone with a medium high spice tolerance. I think the price was a bit on the higher side compared to the portion. Masala Vadas were freshly made and excellent, for curry they took an order for tindora curry but gave us gavar (cluster beans curry that dis not look/taste very fresh.. i only checked after i got home), daal was undercooked not well done .. although spiced well and preparation was tasty. North Indian biryani again was tasty as it was spiced well... but hardly any veggies in it, just spiced colored rice! Overall decent food but consistency and giving customers what they order will make it a much better experience. read more

Amazing Food, Agonizing Delivery The food itself? Five stars, no question. It's incredible. The problem is the absolute pain of getting it delivered. For months now, whether I use Doordash or Uber Eats, the delivery times are just excessive. I remember when they first started offering delivery, it was pretty reasonable. Now, it seems like they can't handle the orders. Delivery drivers themselves complain about major delays and long waits at this specific store. It's a shame because the kitchen is clearly putting out great stuff, but the delivery side is a letdown. They really need to sort out their service if they're going to continue offering delivery, as it's becoming too unreliable. read more

Suggi Oota operates as a ghost kitchen, as are a bunch of others in this location. This is a nice upgrade in the before-times where you had to place orders 2+ days ahead of time. Thankfully not nearly as bad as it was then, but Suggi Oota's take out process wasn't the smoothest either. That said, food was received well and everything was neatly packed and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Light on the stomach, yet well balanced in flavors (though it does skew more towards more subtle tastes). Though their operation is based in the same takeout kitchen space as several other restaurants, they don't seem to be operating on the same system. This means they don't use the lockers and you actually have to call Suggi Oota directly to bring your order out. This is actually posted there, but you have to notice or you'll be just left waiting...so definite caution. I'm quite the novice to North Karnataka cuisine, but my humble opinion was that the food itself was pretty good, with everything being generally fresh and flavorful, though on the less seasoned side for some dishes. I can't exactly name the dishes too well, but very fresh and 'healthy' (minimal salt and grease). If you can't handle spicy as well... you'll probably miss out on a lot of the flavor as the spicy paste was remarkably potent and added a nice complexity to the dishes. I also probably didn't eat them 'correctly', but hey it was a pleasant meal. That said, you may need to stir up some of the soup containers for full flavor due to settling, as the lentil soup (?) certainly needed it. Delayed order. Poor communication. Have tried them twice: Food is quite homely and tastes good. I'm not sure if it's Value for money for the quantity. Food could be proportionately better to make it a complete meal. Replaced Masale Bath with Jeera Rice, as they were out of stock; but there was not enough side to eat the excess jeera rice with. Suggioota is one of the few restaurants I truly feel comfortable ordering from -- their food is healthy, light on the stomach, and always satisfying. I recently tried their North Karnataka meal, and every item was absolutely delicious and packed with authentic flavors. We also regularly order their dosa and idly batter, which is freshly prepared and free from preservatives. It's become a staple in our kitchen. We order from here regularly. It's home made, Karnataka food - they have north Indian option also. The quantity is a little less but food is not overly spicy and oily like restaurants. The take out place is a run down location in San Jose. My daughter said the food feels like I have come to a friend's house for dinner. That's a great compliment. We regularly order food from Suggi oota and have also tasted their catered meals at private parties in the bay area. Karnataka food isn't the easiest to find around here, but Suggi oota is hands down the best I've had. True to the name, the food is absolutely festive. The rice item + chapathi-sabji menu on weekdays are delicious and have a home cooked taste. Special mention to their spicing that hits all the right notes on my palette. There's good variety in the weekly menu, the portion sizes are great and the pricing seems fair (esp in the post-covid era). The only (non) complaint I have is I wish they had a sit down place to complete the sense of nostalgia and cultural immersion. I hope they open one soon! :) The food is all vegetarian, but I would gladly recommend it even to my non-vegetarian friends! read more

Disclaimer. I didn't order the food nor pay for it. I attended an event where Suggi Oota catered food. It was Karnataka cuisine which I don't see a lot of in the Bay Area. An extra star just for that. What was good. Mango Chitranna, Dal vada especially with dill leaves ( very good), holige (a little oily), rasam, moong dal + raw mango salad( kosambari, it was the best) and simple homemade pickle. What was not so great - some eggplant curry which the kids found too spicy and I thought lacked flavor. Would I order from them personally - most likely not till they fix the issues with the website. It needs a lot of effort and navigation to order. Picked up the Holige Oota thali for Friday's dinner. This was my first time diving into food from North Karnataka. It all sounded great while scrolling through their online menu. My friend and I each ordered one thali for our Friday dinner. Once picked up and brought home, we immediately opened our meals. My friend especially from North Karnataka was very excited to find his home food. Our thali consisted of lemon rice, white rice, one chapati, one holige, kattina saru (rasam), one ambode, pickle, and shikarne (mango ras). We were extremely disappointed to find no majjige (buttermilk) with our thalis especially, after that 30 minute drive to the restaurant for pickup. The thali was around $20 and I sure did not expect it to have a missing item. To dive in deeper, the quantity of white rice was significant in comparison to the rest of the items. The picture on their website for Friday's dinner is extremely deceiving as it shows a greater quantity of pickle, looks to be ghee on the side, 4 baby papads, and majjige (buttermilk). They really need to work on updating their picture for Holige Oota Friday's dinner on their website and their Facebook page. My friend and I had to make something close to majjige to fulfill that buttermilk craving that was incomplete in this meal as unfortunately, it was not provided. Hopefully, they improve on this and we may be able to give it a second chance. For now, I would not recommend a visit for that price point. read more

I ordered meals from suggioota on my recent visit to Bay Area. I didn't want to miss it at any cost after seeing those divine looking food posts on Instagram. I was thrilled to know that the folks are from my hometown Davangere and wanted to show support and solidarity in my own little way by ordering food for my friends too. The food reminded me of HEALTHY (CLEAN) HOME COOKED FOOD and made me appreciate the simplicity of North/ Central Karnataka food. SIMPLICITY IS TRULY UNDERRATED! I am a huge fan on suggi oota food. Have been catering from here from all our events at home. The north Karnataka food is the best in the area. But, the reason for my rating is they are wayyy overpriced for the kind of service they offer. They have missed several items from my order every time I have ordered. Majige which is part of the thali I have never received. The pickles was missed once. The papad was missed once. Usually most caterers often a lot of food. If I order for 15 people I can easily Serve upto 16-18 people. With suggi oota an order of 15 doesn't even serve 15 people well. Not just that, the owner forgot my order the day of the event. I called her to check for my order the morning of the event, and she acted like she's never heard of me before! We had 30 people waiting on food while the lady figured out some on the spot menu for the event. Sooo not cool! I will not be ordering from them if they don't offer value for the price. I am okay paying $25 a plate if it is what I ordered, if it includes all the items and it's delivered and packaged well. They have to get their service or order processing together for me to consider them again. I don't recommend catering from them. Maybe try their meal if u r really craving some Karnataka food. Ordered the bele holige festive thali and it was indeed a festive spread which had everything your mom would make back home on a festival. Did not feel bloated which usually happens when you eat food from outside. Ranjini was extremely easy to communicate with and went above and beyond to ensure everything goes well. Would highly recommend them for ordering in bulk or even in regular quantities. It's a good change than the otherwise usual roti curries. I ordered the jolad rotti oota and it surely lived up to my expectation. I discovered Suggi Oota one day when I was craving jolad rotti. It's a shame they don't always make it! They have a weekly rotating special meals menu I believe. The jolad rotti oota came with ennegai (brinjal curry), payasa (rice kheer), sambar, rice pulav, raita and kosambari (salad). Food is great . Very authentic & tastes homemade. The quantity is sufficient too. The best part is there is no floating oil or cream base , it's very much fresh & like homemade . The dessert options are authentic South Indian too. When you feel like eating homemade food, it's a good option, unlike the obvious curries & stuff. Their health sanitation score is 100. Which is awesome. This grade is given to restaurants by respective county officials after health sanitation inspections. Better grade, cleaner & safe to eat food. Suggestions : - Most of the food items are really really spicy & inedible for kids, sometimes adults too. I am from Davangere and very well know Sharabeshwara restaurant food back home and it's authenticity. Ranjini is daughter of the restaurant owner and I would say she did not disappoint on my expectations. We ordered 15 holige thali for my sister in law's birthday and truly everybody loved the food. There are some great food critic among us and they loved it. Nothing better than making your sister in law happy Each item was freshly packed and reminded food back home. I loved perfect puliyogre, holige saaru, majjige, palya and ambode. Full stomach meal. Just couple of things I noticed which can be taken as improvements, holige had great softness but was little bit on sweeter side than what I am used to.
