It has a more modern, contemporary feel that emphasizes customization choices and friendly customer service. You walk in and order at the counter, where there's a clearly displayed menu with all the choices above the register area. The prices are pretty typical, but they do have chef specials that are discounted and rotate. The day we went, it was the roasted chicken that was the chef special, so we tried that. They make a point of bringing the food to you, which is nice, and they make sure you have everything you need. The food was well prepared and tasty - it felt like effort was taken to make it delicious home-cooked feeing type of meal. The Brussel sprouts were very good, as was the chicken. Portion sizes were fine, though not what I'd call generous. The garlic bread was a little lacking - just not really toasted enough, and perhaps as a healthier restaurant, they didn't butter and salt it up too much, which is fine. Had the Moroccan Chicken and Salmon. Moroccan chicken came with basmati rice and toast. The sauce had cumin flavor, like peppery cilantro mix. The salmon was good and well seasoned. Not fishy at all. The salad itself was pretty unexciting, too, with just mixed greens and coconut roasted cashews. That was partly my fault because I had them hold the mango salsa and jicama. I added red onions and avocado from my own kitchen and that helped liven it up. I also discovered if I dipped the steak in the salad dressing it tasted better. This was my first time at this particular urban plates at Santana Road. I've been to the one in Sunnyvale a handful of time. All I really wanted was hummingbird cake and some coffee but I knew I needed something more substantial for lunch. Lol so I got the Aji seared tuna and had it well done. My friend said the roasted barramundi seabass is good but the rainbow carrots and golden beets side dish is greasy. It's pretty pricey for the portion size. For adding a side of protein to a salad (that doesn't come with any protein) such as grilled chicken, it's another $10 that is expensive. I chose to order from the table since I was waiting for the rest of the party. The website is straightforward and easy to use, and note there is a subscription available for frequent diners to purchase that enables them to order menu items with a noticeable discount. We tried the grassfed steak (with fries and caesar salad (extra $1 for that option) and the pork ribs (half rack). The steak was ok but I felt it needed some additional seasoning (chimichurri is $1 extra, and can be ordered either as an add-on or through the separate menu option of chimichurri grassfed steak). Keep in mind that grassfed beef will usually taste different from beef raised or finished on grains. I don't think I would order the steak again. The pork ribs though earned a high rating for the restaurant. Note that this is listed as a seasonal item but I hope they make it a permanent part of the menu, as I would return for it. The meat is very tender, you can say it falls off the bone. The sauce is all right and rather sweet; I actually think the ribs didn't need as much sauce on them, and the sauce on the side was more than enough. The two sides a friend ordered for his pork ribs plate were brussel sprouts w/balsamic dressing and carrots and beets, and he liked both. The pork ribs can be ordered by themselves as a protein side; if you order the pork ribs plate with an extra side of ribs, that's about a full rack and comparable to a full rack plate that you would get at the bbq places around here, and the ribs at Urban Plates are comparable in taste, if not better. A friend's ice tea order was a bit late but eventually brought to the table, but only after we had already asked the young lady who brought our food the table about it and she had brought one to the table for us. Great customer service and attentiveness from her. (The staff taking orders at the front counter take care of drink orders.) Came here with my daughter for lunch this past Sunday. We walked right in as there was no line at 11:45am. I ordered the grilled sea bass with sides of chili corn and broccolini. The corn tasted great, the sea bass was pretty good but the broccolini was over cooked and pale green colored. My daughter ordered the child's steak with the side of macaroni. Came to pick up our pre-ordered Turkey Family Meal yesterday. We got it once the year before from a different location and liked it a lot. While I enjoyed cooking for my family last Thanksgiving, I missed how much more relaxed it was when someone else did the cooking and I could spend more time with my family doing other things. We had ordered Thanksgiving meals from a number of other places over the years, but they would all require re-heating. It's a no-brainer to order from Urban Plates again this year as their meal was hot and ready to eat and it would be just for 3 adults. Price of the family meal had only increased slightly compared to 2 years ago (about $118 after surcharge and tax). I placed a separate order for two slices of pie to be picked up at the same time, too. Street parking was easy a little before 6:30pm. There was no line for pickup and the food (one big bag for the family meal, and one small bag for the pie slices) were already on a table near the back inside the restaurant. The bags were clearly marked with my name. The food smelled really good in the car, and was still warm when we got home. The turkey breast was moist, the Brussel sprouts were really tasty, and not bitter at all. The mashed potato was not bad. The bread and the stuffing were a little brand, though. Adding gravy to them did help, fortunately. We had enough leftover for another person as the meal was supposed to serve 4. We warmed up the apple pie slice, and shared it with ice cream. A perfect sweet ending to our meal. We're too full to even try the pumpkin pie slice, and had to save it for another day. They do have outdoor seating, but the sun was hitting that area pretty hard, so I chose to sit inside. They have an area for self serve drinks and silverware. I filled up my iced tea and got my utensils and waited for my food. My food came out fast. The young man who brought my food was very kind and attentive. He also got me a to go cup to fill up when I left, which I thought was so nice. They have the best customer service. My food was excellent. There were times where they would check on orders but then leave the register empty so customers coming in just stood there until they came back. I got a text that my order was getting bagged but it just never came out and no one was there to check. Everyone was just in the back bagging up orders and seemed like patrons dining in were a bit ignored as well as I saw multiple people have to go back and ask for their food or other items. First time trying out Urban after being a long time Tender Greens fan. It's great!! I went with my classic Ahi tuna plate with mashed potatoes and the portions are actually huge. The tuna itself was meaty and I could taste the sear on it. Mash potatoes were soft with an herby gravy on the side. I'm a bit sad they didn't have any arugula on the menu but got the beet salad instead. I love beets and they had a solid soft chew to it. Stephanie was super fun at the counter. Casual spot for healthy food where you order first - reminds me of Tender Greens in Palo Alto but with a larger menu. Plenty of seating inside and they serve craft sodas. I got the chimichurri steak plate with balsamic glazed brussels and marble potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly although the chimichurri could've been optional - it was very raw onion tasting. The Brussels were roasted great albeit on the more oily side but I love balsamic so the glaze really balanced it out. The marble potatoes were delicious with crispy skin and a consistent bite.
