Visiting on a day when the Gujarati Thali was featured turned out to be a great food decision. The restaurant itself is simple, with plenty of seating and convenient parking options. The Gujarati Thali came loaded with a variety of components, and every single item was solid. A few dishes stood out more than others, but nothing was a disappointment. The shrikhand, Gujarati thepla, dal, and sabzis were all fresh, well-flavored, and nicely balanced, not overly oily or excessively spicy. The pricing felt entirely fair for the quality and amount of food offered. The mango shrikhand and puris were also ordered separately and were a hit, though the mango lassi was surprisingly heavy on cardamom. Unfortunately, as good as the food was, the service was a major letdown. Reservations are not accepted, which is fine, but despite several empty tables being visible upon arrival, there was still a 5- to 10-minute wait. Things went downhill from there. The thalis took an exceptionally long time to arrive after ordering. Later on, a steward completely forgot an additional order, requiring a reminder before it was finally brought out. Had lunch here with my husband for the first time. When we first walked in the place was empty and we almost went to Komala Villas instead. After stopping by Komala my husband said let's just try this spot and I am glad we did. A few minutes after we started eating the restaurant got busy and soon there was even a line at the door. It's a smaller spot compared to Komala but it feels more like a restaurant than a cafeteria. We went for the all you can eat thali which came with an appetizer, a yogurt drink and three desserts. Everything was tasty. The staff was super attentive and kept coming around with more food so you never had to flag anyone down. Our bill was a little over fifty before tip which comes out to about twenty six each. I've been here a few times for lunch and it's good if you like variety in thali. It's always crowded but there's lots of tables inside so I haven't had to wait much. The service is pretty good and the servers check to see what you need very often. The pani puri that was there the recent time I went was a nice addition and tasted great too. We have been looking for a place with a good dinner thali since our place closed a few years ago. On our first visit this place is filling the bill pretty well. The night of our visit it was the Gujarati thali. A good variety of dishes as you can see from the pictures. They also bring you a glass of cumin, infused buttermilk, and a selection of bread: Roti, Poori, paratha. Indian vegetarian has become fabulously expensive considering the cost of ingredients, but this place has a bucket brigade to keep your plates full until you are full. Amazing food! For a thali I think the roti matters a lot and this place makes the best! The accompanying curries and all the sides have distinct flavors so it's enjoyable throughout the meal. I like that the portions they serve are moderate so food waste can be limited. They are generous with refills so if you want something more you can get it. I also like that they rotate the menu so any day you come there is most likely something new to try. I can vouch for their rajbhog and marathi thali. The manager here was as dumb as it could get. After finishing up lunch, I asked her if my partner had paid the bill for my table. She said she wasn't aware but I could go out and check with my partner since I didn't have my phone. So I went out and as my partner was telling me that the bill was paid, the manager woman came running out saying we didn't pay the bill causing a scene. My partner had to go inside and show the transaction on her phone to prove she paid. This is the worst customer experience I've had at a restaurant. Had dinner at Rajbhog Thali in Sunnyvale today with friends (group of 7). We were there around 7:30 pm and did not have to wait to get seated. Water and chaas (buttermilk) were served immediately. Our thalis came within 10 minutes. Today's menu was Rajbhog thali. See attached pictures. The food was very delicious. It did not feel very heavy, or oily, or very spicy. The phulkas and pooris very nice and soft. All the curries were very delicious. Desserts ( sooji halwa, gulab jamun with rabdi) were good too. Only thing I felt different was that rabdi did not feel like rabdi, felt more like custard or butter cream. Service was very prompt and courteous. The staff were very polite and nice. I visited this restaurant on a Sunday for lunch and had their Punjabi thali. The restaurant was packed with people and there were a few tables left unoccupied. Excellent food! I hope it's not just a flash in the pan as with most of the Indian restaurants these days and they maintain this quality. We went on a Sunday when they had Punjabi thali. The thali variety changes based on the day of the week. It costed us around ~$20 for adults and ~$10 for kids. The restaurant was packed, this is always a good sign! It took more than 10 minutes to get our thali after being seated. They served tiny sampling quantities of each variety on the thali. This is a great move as it avoids food wastage. We can always request more of anything we like as it's unlimited. Appetizers: 5/5- chole tikki and bread pakora. Pakoda was surprisingly delectable and not too heavy or oily, it was still pretty large though and I did not complete mine. Chole tikki was amazing, easily comparable to some of the other popular chaat restaurants in the bayarea. Special- 5/5- Makki di roti and sarson ka saag. This was one of the best dishes on the thali, the sarson ka saag was greasy but very delicious. Almost everyone at our table got a double serving of this. Other veggies- 5/5- kurkure bhindi was essentially okra fritters. A teeny bit salty but very crispy and delicious. Dessert-5/5- carrot halwa and shahi tukda. The shahi tukda was too sweet for my liking but the carrot halwa was another story. I never eat dessert, I sample it when someone tells me it's good. But, I finished this one clean. Rest at my table got a double serving as well. It was the best carrot halwa I had! Not too sweet, perfect balance of all elements. Rest of the stuff- we also got paneer curry, kaddu, dal, kadhi, plain rice, vegetable biryani, raita, salad, puri, roti etc. Biryani was a bit overdosed with spices but the rest were all decent. The service was great as well, they did multiple rounds for all the dishes including desserts as well. No reservations are needed and they are quick in their service as well. Came here tonight after hearing good stuff about this place. Pros: clean, serving staff courteous and kind. 1) Bajri rotlo was good. Cons: too many to count but for the 1st part. 1) The gentleman who calls himself the manager helped seat us, kept repeating asking how many kids vs adults and we were all present for him to count. It's not as if food was instantly to going to appear on the table as soon as we sat down. 2) the food came out extremely late (20-25 mins after we sat down). There were multiple tables including ours with small kids and multiple tables had crying or irritable kids who were super hungry. The least they could've done is start with papad to calm the kids during the wait. 3) Plates for Adults came out before the kids plate. wtf! There is no difference in the plates unless you have an infant. Our plates came out a good 10 mins before kids and it was a mess. A pretty lady behind the counter saw my hubby looking a bit short tempered came over, and said oh yes let me get the kids plate. Wtf happened to counting the # of adults vs kids. 4) Food was cold. 5) All bowls were less than 1/2 to 1/4 filled, they literally gave 1 tablespoon of rice on the plate. 6) The gentleman who was the manager came to ask for feedback on food. Urgh bad timing ... feed back was this place is lousy. Unorganized, many people walking around with nothing to do, the staff serving food also looked like they were scared or frightened. 7) Ideally just set up all the tables with plates and bowl then seat people and send out serving staff to fill the plates. This would be much more organized and people wouldn't be waiting around so much for some "half full tray of food." 8) They are extremely stingy in serving jaggery...they used the smallest spoon from a toy kitchen set to service it. Very disappointing experience at Rajpook Thali. We visited on a Thursday (weekday price $19.95), but were charged the weekend price $22.95. I have the receipt as proof. When we told that Undhiyu was spoiled, they sad sorry and stop serving to us and others acknowledging that is was spoiled. We went on a Thursday noon for lunch - it was the Rajbhog Thali on the menu that day. Were greeted warmly by the staff and seated, they gave us the Chaas immediately and water. Within 10 mins were served our thalis, it had - palak dal, kadhi, kurma, paneer sabji, aloo baingan, papad, salad, kabab , pakora, kheer and gulab jamun. They serve Roti, puri separately. Good portions, kept asking in regular frequency and the ambiance was also good. For the price - it is definitely a deal. The service staff were cordial and quick service.
