Exterior and private parking is available in their shared parking lot

After working out at the gym for nearly two hours, we cleaned up and changed into clean streetwear, then wanted to eat comforting Asian noodles or lighter lunch entrees. My husband suggested having soup noodles at a Chinese restaurant in Kapahulu's Market City. Still, McCully's Udon Yonpachi struck my fancy more because I remembered reading an article written in Honolulu Magazine's October 2025 newsletter, about their silky, slurpy yet chewy udon noodles and lighter izakaya-style dishes. Plus, we could get to Udon Yonpachi faster since it's closer to our gym than Kapahulu. When we arrived, there were several open parking spaces in the private, shared parking lot in front of the restaurant on McCully Street. Upon entering the restaurant, we were surprised to find it wasn't busy at all, and the female server welcomed us with a hearty "irrashaimase!" And motioned to us to sit anywhere in the restaurant. She quickly brought over the menus and asked if we wanted any beverages besides iced water. While she left to bring us glasses of water, more hungry diners entered, and we chuckled about getting our lunch order in quickly as the restaurant filled. Our server was friendly and offered to explain the lunch menu since this was our first visit, but we figured out what we wanted and ordered before the larger groups who had just entered the restaurant could. FOOD: -Niku Kinkorojiru Tsuke Udon Set: I was attracted to this Tsuke udon set because I enjoy eating dipping noodles. I could see from the menu photo that this set would be healthy, delicious, and generously portioned. I chose chicken as my protein source instead of pork to be added to the clear, umami-tasting beef and dashi broth, along with earthy, nutty shimeiji mushrooms, fried tofu (aburaage), and other tasty ingredients. The in-house-made, room-temperature (not icy chilled) udon sat on a bamboo mat (takesudare) within a larger bowl. Side dishes included a tossed green salad, kinpira gobo, asazuke (lighly pickled vegetables), and a scoop of mixed rice. The broth remained steaming hot even as I dipped the noodles into its bowl. $21 -Shrimp Tempura Udon Set: my husband selected this menu item as he was drawn to "tempura shrimp" or deep-fried shrimp. The battered, deep-fried large shrimp were delicate, crisp, and airy, but my husband regretted not asking to have them served separately, since the bottoms of the airy shrimp tempura, which were touching the broth, got soggy. However, the shrimp meat was tender and succulent. The clear, steaming-hot broth was clean-tasting, not overpoweringly seafood-flavored, and umami-rich, yet didn't detract from the delicate shrimp. Of course, the silky yet chewy in-house-made udon was luxurious when slurped from the bowl of hot broth. His lunch set also included a mini salad, kinpira gobo, asazuke (lightly pickled vegetables), and a scoop of mixed rice. $22.50 We were impressed with Udon Yonpachi and would love to return for their izakaya dishes and sake for dinner.

Finally stopped at Udon Yonpachi for lunch and I'm pretty sure I found my new favorite curry udon on the island. I ordered the curry udon as a lunch set and it was dialed in -- the curry was the perfect consistency (not too thick, not too runny) with a bold, comforting flavor that actually hits. My wife got the Nikujiru tsuke with mushrooms and that was also super good -- rich, savory, and really satisfying. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel easy, welcoming & casual. Only heads up: the parking lot is tiny, so plan accordingly. Overall, definitely a repeat spot for me. I'll 100% be back.

The nikujiru kinoko tsuke udon is cold udon served with a hot dipping broth filled with a delicious mixture of your choice of pork or chicken (I went with chicken) , fried tofu, green onion, shimeji, and shitake mushrooms. The broth is flavorful and the udon is perfectly soft and chewy. We also ordered the udon fries which sounded intriguing but I wasn't a fan of the crispy udon texture and much rather have it served with broth. Worth the try though if you're looking for something different!

Goodbye to 2025, this will probably be my last review unless I try something new tomorrow. I don't see any place for reservations so got here before 11am and stood in line like the old fashioned way. Parking is limited and shared between Territorial Savings and another Japanese takeout next door. It seems like dinner time maybe more ideal for parking since Territorial Savings is closed. I got the dipping in Udon with pork/mushroom flavor since that's what this place is known for. I kind of wish it was in soup instead of dipping. Flavor was good though. It was a set lunch with some rice. Not sure why we need more starch when Udon is a starch. But I did like the Gobo, salad, and some Ume flavored pickled veggies. Excellent service and lively vibe. I hope to return and try their regular Udon.

Udon is the slurps... I've been wanting to give this newbie a visit though giving it some time to settle is nice so the the newness can settle with that I still feel the newness of this place and you can find them right on one of the busiest spot McCully Street can be stressful as the parking is right front of the restaurant getting out can be hard during the busy traffic time. We arrived just at opening in fact was worried about parking and arrive early to grab a stall and found it nice inside with lots of holiday decor along with some Japanese decor which felt quite cluttered giving it more of an izakaya vibe the staff is nice and friendly greeting us and getting us started but seem a little unsure with some of the items. I did get something that I normally don't see is "Spicy Niku Kinoko Jiru Tsuke Udon) ya that's it but it's spicy with beef and mushrooms and tsuke is to dip so my noodles was plain and the sauce had all the goodies in them along with the spicy seasoning right on top...mixing mix mix and dip it was a nice chewy bite like sanuki udon a thick and mochi texture bite as dipping just one noodle at a time was a sufficient bite. Kitchen is fast and efficient and the staff was nice and kept our water coming as this cozy spot was nice and I do love udon so you know I will be back. Thank you!

Late post. We came here two weeks ago. It was our first time. Overall, we had a good experience. The food came out quick and good portion. We got their combos, and I think it's worth it. Service was good that night. We didn't wait long, and we were done in less than an hour. The place was 3/4 full when we left. It appears a lot of regulars in there. Place was clean and free parking in front of the building.

Bouncy delicious house-made udon! What's not to love? We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday before noon and the restaurant was already almost full. Fantastic set lunch menu with multiple options to customize your bowl. I had the pork and mushroom bowl. My dining partner in crime had the chicken and mushroom bowl. The broth is deep and rich with umami and a hint of sweetness. Service is efficient and friendly! The interior will make you feel like you are in Japan. Udon Yonpachi will definitely be a frequent stop for us. I'm excited to try some of their other items.

Dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii... Located on the busy main street of McCully, one can't help but notice this new restaurant that used to be an izakaya. Udon Yonpachi has about five parking stalls right in front. After hours, feel free to park in the stalls that belong to the bank., We arrived a little before the 5pm dinner hours, so we beat the rush. We didn't have a reservation on a Tuesday evening. Service was efficient, polite, and attentive. Our water glasses were filled several times without needing to ask. I ordered the Curry Udon... it was perfect! The meat was thinly sliced, the noodles were chewy, and the curry wasn't spicy, but very flavorful! I would go back again! This cozy place was bright, clean, and nicely decorated!

Thanks auntie Nadine .C for recommending this restaurant located corner of Young St. and Mccully. Very tasty and reasonable I ordered their curry Udon set . Comes with chicken or pork Curry Udon along with a toss salad and a small bowl of rice with some Japanese radishes. Service was friendly and efficient ordered and our meals and it came out pretty quick. Next time I probably ordered their shrimp tempura udon my sister ordered it and it looked delicious. They also have a Izakaya dinner menu as well looked delicious with all kinds of sides appetizers. Will definitely be back . Support local

Udon Yonpachi **** RECOMMENDED **** Food: **** Value: **** Menu: **** Ambiance: **** Service: **** Parking: ***** free in front & on side ***** 5-star scale Dining at Udon Yonpachi felt like dining in Japan, but with a little more space. It has a nice Japanese design, they play Japanese pop music and most the staff speaks Japanese. The udon is made fresh daily and is slightly undercooked, so it's a little chewy (similar to some restaurants in Japan). My wife liked the dashi broth, but I would prefer more flavor. They have a have a nice selection of dishes and combos to choose from. If you are in the mood for udon, but you do not want to deal with the line at Marukame in Waikiki, Udon Yonpachi is a nice peaceful alternative. I ordered the udon tsukemen and agedashi tofu, and both were excellent. The udon noodles were thick, chewy, and perfectly cooked -- exactly the texture you want for tsukemen. The dipping broth was rich and savory without being overly salty, and it paired beautifully with the noodles. Every bite felt satisfying and comforting. The agedashi tofu was a standout as well. Lightly crispy on the outside, soft and silky on the inside, and soaked in a delicate, flavorful broth. You can tell it was fried just right -- not greasy at all. Simple, clean flavors done really well. Overall, the dishes felt thoughtfully prepared and authentic. If you're into udon or appreciate well-executed Japanese comfort food, this is definitely worth ordering again.

It was my birthday and, since I LOVE, udon, I decided to celebrate with my sister at Yonpachi, which is just down the street from me and where Torae Torae used to be. My sister said the owner was related to her work colleague but didn't know how. The welcome was genuine and in Japanese. A Plus! We ordered drinks to start (beer for my sister and sake for me). Starter was agedashi tofu, which was excellent. My sister ordered her favorite Tanuki Udon, and I ordered my all time favorite, Curry Udon with no meat but replaced with green onion. They make their own udon and it is firm, a bit chewy but great texture and absolutely delish!! We had great conversation with the server, Madako, who is from Japan, and the owner, Tina, who is the daughter of my sister's colleague. The food was good, the ambiance was good, the conversations were good, the drinks were good and, on top of it all, it made my birthday that much better. They are open for lunch and dinner so check this place out so it can stay in business for a long time! I will defintely go back many times.

It's loud and energetic. Mostly because it's a small little place down a side street on Beach Walk. The staff is super friendly, and the food is even better. I had the pork and shrimp katsu set, and my husband had fancy pork katsu set. We also had edamame to start. Everything came out sizzling hot and to perfection. I should also mention, this place is clean. The staff was constantly cleaning tables and menus. I'm giving Ginza only 4 stars because no one ever came to refill our drinks. I know it's such a small thing, but I accidentally ate some of the spicy mustard that was buried on my plate under the salad. My mouth was ON FIRE! I drank all my Diet Coke and my husband had already finished his drink too. So ya, I was dying...lol! Overall though, I would 100% eat at Ginza again

Very random one morning after stopping by kona purveyors in Waikiki, I went to the restroom and while my husband was waiting for me he decided to randomly check if they had any reservations available and we were able to get one for the next day! Getting a reservation is definitely the way to go, I've seen people wait in standby however seating is not guaranteed since they prioritize those who have a reservation. The service was amazing! They are constantly checking up on you to see if you need anything else. I like how they offer different kinds of miso soup. I personally had limitations due to my shellfish allergy, but it was amazing! The katsu we ordered was one of the biggest one that they offer. It's crazy how big the katsu was and surprisingly it was super crispy, light, and even juicy in the inside! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to try katsu in hawaii!

We finally got seated and the people right after us on the list got seated at the same time (they put their name 15 min after us). I would not recommend the waitlist, since it's not consistent. The food itself is always delicious. The new space was nice (and larger). Our server was very nice also. We both got tonkatsu. I got the mizore and my partner got the sizzling one. I appreciate the choices of rice and miso soup. I really enjoyed my Shiso rice and the white miso soup. All the fish were from Japan and yes you can taste the difference. The fatty tuna was obviously my favorite but even the regular tuna and the hamachi was so buttery, it just melts in your mouth. Plus, it comes with real wasabi. Not horseradish, real wasabi. For the cooked dishes we got the hokkaido crab tempura with a side of matcha salt. One of the best tempuras I've ever had.
