Late post. We came here two weeks ago. It was our first time. Overall, we had a good experience. The food came out quick and good portion. We got their combos, and I think it's worth it. Service was good that night. We didn't wait long, and we were done in less than an hour. The place was 3/4 full when we left. It appears a lot of regulars in there. Place was clean and free parking in front of the building. read more

Stepping into Udon Yonpachi feels like finding a warm, inviting spot for a delicious meal. It has a relaxed, neighborhood feel that makes you want to settle in. I ordered a Tanuki udon set, and it was a fantastic choice! The udon noodles were perfectly chewy and served in a flavorful broth, topped with tempura flakes. The set came with a fresh, green salad with a lovely dressing, a side of fluffy white rice sprinkled with furikake, and a couple of delightful small side dishes, braised burdock root (kinpira gobo) and another with pickles. Everything tasted fresh and and well-prepared. The service was attentive and the food arrived promptly. It's clear they put care into their dishes. If you're looking for authentic and satisfying udon in a pleasant setting, Udon Yonpachi is definitely worth a visit. read more

Udon Yonpachi is located in the McCully Moiliili area, where Izakaya Torae Torae used to be. The ambiance is much brighter and open now, which suits the food that is being served. The aesthetic of this place is very pleasing to the eye! [Food] I ordered the kake udon, so I could compare this udon spot to its competitors. Compared to the other udon restaurants on island, the broth is much more complex and nuanced at Udon Yonpachi. Undeniably delicious and made of high quality ingredients. Only complaint is--I wish there were more noodles. Luckily, they offer extra noodles for $2.50! My boyfriend's signature tsuke udon with pork was absolutely the star of the show! I can see why it's Yonpachi's signature. The broth is flavorful, well balanced and addictive! The noodles can really shine in this dish. Of the udon places I've tried, yonpachi offers the chewiest noodles. I love the texture! The tempuras were also fried perfectly--not oily yet crisp! [Customer Service] There was not a single moment my boyfriend and me were not accounted for. As soon as we entered, we were greeted with upbeat energy. The serving staff were thoughtful, hardworking and kind. The food came out at a reasonable pace and the prices are fair. I would love to try their lunch special next! read more

The nikujiru kinoko tsuke udon is cold udon served with a hot dipping broth filled with a delicious mixture of your choice of pork or chicken (I went with chicken) , fried tofu, green onion, shimeji, and shitake mushrooms. The broth is flavorful and the udon is perfectly soft and chewy. We also ordered the udon fries which sounded intriguing but I wasn't a fan of the crispy udon texture and much rather have it served with broth. Worth the try though if you're looking for something different! read more

It was a Saturday afternoon when I started craving udon, so my family and I decided to try Udon Yonpachi for lunch on 9/20/25. As we entered, there were a couple of tables open with two servers serving customers in the small, quaint restaurant space. The staff was very friendly and welcomed us in and even apologized a few times for us having to wait while they wiped down the table before we sat down. They gave us the lunch menu, which had a nice choice of items. Our server noticed our two little boys, so they offered us the dinner menu so we could see the kids' menu items. I ordered the Tanuki udon set (they were out of the shrimp tempura set!), my husband ordered the Nikujiru Tuske udon set, and we ordered each of our boys a kids set. Each lunch set came with a variety of additional items besides the main star of the meal...the udon! The texture of the udon noodle itself was perfectly cooked with a nice bite and springiness to it. The broth was very flavorful and balanced. The kids' set was the best deal - it included a bowl of udon, fried chicken, french fries, edamame, a drink, and a snack! We all enjoyed our meals, and the boys were raving about the noodles! They even told our server, who is the chef's wife, that it was the best udon noodles he has ever eaten and cannot wait to return! So I guess we'll be returning in the future to try out their dinner menu! Overall, the food was delicious. The service was good, and the food came out quick! Happy Eating! read more

Thank you fellow helper for posting about Udon Yonpachi. We are always looking for somewhere new to eat so tonight here's where we went. We were very pleased with the udon, chewiness of the noodles and the Dashi. The shrimp tempura was good chikuwa tempura, just ok. We also had the saba, very good. We were fortunate to get the last parking stall right in front of the restaurant. Then I noticed there's a good size parking lot on the Young Street side so next time I think we will enter an exit through there. Again we were lucky to find some space for us, so we sat at the counter and we quickly served. Everyone is really nice and it sounds like the shifts are well trained, and experts in their craft. Yes! Definitely return but next time we will order extra noodles. read more

If you're a noodle lover, you need to add Udon Yonpachi in McCully to your list. This new spot brings something Honolulu hasn't really seen before --, Saitama-style dipping udon. This Hidden Gem is owned by the nicest Husband and wife team... Chef is from Japan and his wife is a local girl. Chef use to work at Sun noodle for 8 years and after meeting his wife, they decided to open this Amazing Udon Shop together. * Noodles: House-made, firm, and perfectly chewy. Made with Japanese flour from Sun Noodle. * Menu: The dipping udon is a standout, especially the niku kinokojiru tsuke udon. Rich, umami broth on the side so you can dip each bite to your liking. The shrimp tempura udon set and curry udon were also excellent -- hearty and comforting. * Atmosphere: Casual, clean, and welcoming. A great spot for lunch or dinner, whether you're solo or with friends. * Service: Friendly and attentive -- staff took time to explain the different udon styles and recommendations for first-timers. Overall, Udon Yonpachi is a fantastic addition to the McCully dining scene. Whether you're already a udon fan or curious to try something new, this place delivers authentic flavors with thoughtful details. Highly recommended! read more

Service is good Udon has great texture. Most of the selections are served with a "dipping" sauce. I got the Kake with a side of tempura which was delicious -battered just right and not over cooked. The Takoyaki was very flourery - yes i made up my own word- full of flour - The fried skewer was just ok - decor is nice - and the udon is good so give them a try! Oh yeah would be nice if hot tea was offered.... read more

After seeing this new udon place on social media, my friends and I were excited to try it, and I'm so glad we did! Visiting Udon Yonpachi was such a great experience in all aspects. I loved the Zaru Udon and additional Fried Mochi! (Yes, I may have felt a bit bloated after, but that's totally on me for solely ordering carbs. Definitely trying more items next time though!) Both had a perfectly satisfying chew and fresh taste. The fried coating on the mochi was very light, not like their tempura options, which I personally like. The Zaru Udon comes with two sauces, a shoyu one and a sesame one with a bit of chili oil, and both were delicious--flavorful without being too salty! Prices are not bad, and definitely reasonable for the quality of the food. Special shoutout to the staff for their hospitality! Everyone was so friendly, from their enthusiastic greeting, to chatting with my group while patiently helping us split the bill, to kindly seeing us out the door as we left. We're already so excited to return! If you've been curious about this place, I can confirm it's well worth the visit! read more

Chewy, delicious, and delightful! I got the zaru udon and fried mochi. I've had something similar to this in Japan, but I swear Udon Yonpachi's sauces are much more flavorful! I love love love the spicy sesame dipping sauce. The udon noodles were thick and chewy, and the fried mochi (4 pieces) was delicious too. Service is super quick and very friendly! The staff are very attentive and hospitable. There's a few parking stalls in the front of the restaurant. I will definitely be back again! read more

CLOSE ENOUGH, WELCOME BACK JIMBO My quest to find an amazing homemade udon place on Oahu continues and it brought me here to Udon Yonpachi. I got the Zaru Udon, which came with a spicy(ish) goma-dare, tsuyu, and gronion/ginger/seaweed. The udon was the perfect chew and the long noodles were so fun to slurp. I love goma-dare and theirs is incredible, a perfect combo of tangy, umami, and a touch of sweet. The Tsuyu was good as well, I could definitely taste the dashi. I also ordered the kani kama tempura, which was HUGE and super tasty to dip in the dressings. The employees are so kind and hospitable, you could definitely tell the dishes are made with time and care. The restaurant is clean and there's ample parking right in front. I cannot wait to come back to try their signature kinoko dipping udon and their shabushabu salad (although the whole menu looks incredible). I cannot wait to come back! read more

It was my birthday and, since I LOVE, udon, I decided to celebrate with my sister at Yonpachi, which is just down the street from me and where Torae Torae used to be. My sister said the owner was related to her work colleague but didn't know how. The welcome was genuine and in Japanese. A Plus! We ordered drinks to start (beer for my sister and sake for me). Starter was agedashi tofu, which was excellent. My sister ordered her favorite Tanuki Udon, and I ordered my all time favorite, Curry Udon with no meat but replaced with green onion. They make their own udon and it is firm, a bit chewy but great texture and absolutely delish!! We had great conversation with the server, Madako, who is from Japan, and the owner, Tina, who is the daughter of my sister's colleague. The food was good, the ambiance was good, the conversations were good, the drinks were good and, on top of it all, it made my birthday that much better. They are open for lunch and dinner so check this place out so it can stay in business for a long time! I will defintely go back many times. read more

What a great new spot! My friend and I were in the mood for udon and stumbled up this place, and I'm glad that we did. Udon Yonpachi is a very welcoming environment and the food is delicious. The parking lot is a little bit strangely built, however, when you get past that and enter the restaurant, you are greeted warmly by the entire staff. Also know that the door gets a little sticky so if the sign says open, they are open. You just have to put a little muscle into the door. Anyway, the menu had a lot of options, but since it was our first time, I ended up asking the people that were sitting at the table next to us what they ordered. We started out with tempura vegetables and shrimp as well as fried udon noodles, which were so good. I've never had those before and I'm glad I tried it because they were a delight. We ended up ordering the Niku Kinoko Jiru Tsuke Udon (17.25) which was very delicious. The noodles were absolute perfection. They are made daily in house and were long and chewy and so flavorful. The dipping broth is also so good and flavorful. The restaurant is dine in only for now because they just recently opened. They just also added a few days of lunch service to their hours. This place should be visited if you are an udon fan and if you're not an udon fan, I think this place will make you one. read more

Udon Yonpachi is a new udon shop in town! We were happily surprised to see a new sign occupying the old space left by Torae Torae and stopped in for a quick dinner. The inside is definitely reminiscent of the previous tenants: several tables are available for groups and there is a bartop seating facing a semi-open kitchen. The udon noodles were thick and chewy - we were told they're made in-house. The nikujiru tsuke udon was served as a dipped udon - I can't say I've had udon like this before, but the style is similar to tsukemen (as the name might suggest). The dipping broth was packed with flavor - salty and rich balanced with a good amount of acid and just a touch of sweetness. The flavors of this dipping broth are very concentrated and I don't think you're intended to drink it as you might a ramen soup, but once my noodles ran out I wasn't ready to just waste such delicious broth. They have a sherbet dessert on the menu (not made in house, it's prepackaged) - we tried the hojicha flavor - personally, I'd be ok with skipping this next time. The hojicha flavor was there but I found the texture a bit strange and hard to get over. Service was super friendly and attentive! There is a very limited parking lot available and once it's full, street parking in the area can be pretty tough. read more

I'm not an udon guy. I'm not even a ramen guy. So take this for what it's worth. I ended up at Udon Yonpachi because of the yelp rating, and I'll be going back. The best way to describe this place is simple. Well executed. The broth was deeply flavorful without being heavy, and the noodles had that perfect snap. Exactly what you want but rarely get. I also ordered the tendon, and it was preseasoned to perfection. No need to fix anything at the table, which says a lot. The menu is very limited, but that's clearly intentional. They focus on a small number of items and do them right. Everything we tried hit. The appetizers are ideal if you're just there to have a couple beers or some sake. Simple, clean, and done properly. Prices are reasonable, especially for the quality. Also worth noting, the staff is all Japanese and speaking Japanese. That usually tells you everything you need to know about the standard they're holding. Again, I do not like udon, and I still feel compelled to come back here soon. If you haven't tried it, it's absolutely worth checking out. read more

Tried the new Udon Yonpachi in McCully and while I loved their fresh handmade noodles, I'm not sure it blew me away enough to come back. The highlight was definitely the noodles,... they make them in-house and you can really taste the freshness. The shabu meat salad was super tasty, and the udon fries were a fun and unique twist on French fries basically chewy fries made from tempura udon noodles. My husband and I both got the pork and chicken signature cold noodle with hot dipping sauce. It was flavorful, a little salty, and we felt like the portion size didn't quite match the price. My husband left a little hungry. Service was just okay and not super welcoming. Staff weren't very attentive, and it was hard to get extra utensils when needed. I had a hard time flagging them down since we weren't checked on often. Be aware, Parking is rough... only a handful of spots out front, and we ended up on a side street a few blocks away. My advice: wait it out for a space in their lot if you can. Overall, the food is yummy and I love me a spot that makes their noodles fresh, but the service and parking definitely take away from the experience. read more

Came here for quick dinner before heading out to Hawaiian Brian's. Everyone's first time and over great experience. Udon Yonpachi occupies the old Torae Torae space on McCully, and the interior still feels compact, simple, and slightly inherited rather than designed around udon. Nothing is wrong with it. It is just a small, functional room that keeps most of the attention on the bowls We tried the dipping udon, which is their specialty, and the curry udon. Both had essentially the same problem: the liquid was too thin. The curry ate more like soup than curry, so very little stayed on the noodles. The dipping broth behaved similarly. It slid off before delivering much flavor. In both cases, the practical solution was to eat a bite of noodles, then drink some broth. That works, but it also defeats much of the point of the format Service was good, though not especially attentive. Our bowls were about $18 each, which is reasonable in isolation. The comparison becomes less flattering when Marugame is closer to $12 and, at least for me, serves a better bowl. Honolulu has enough strong udon options that execution matters, especially when the sauce is supposed to do most of the work read more

Just visited the newly opened Udon Yonpachi! I was easily convinced to check it out after seeing a reel on Instagram :). Udon Yonpachi reminded me of this one udon I got in Tokyo Station...so good! The udon was thick and perfectly cooked/chewy. I also highly recommend getting the chikuwa tempura on the side (available during dinner) and dipping it into the udon broth. If I were to skip one thing it would maybe be the agedashi tofu...but that's me being really picky. Everything about our experience was a 10/10--especially the friendly service, despite being newly opened. While we miss the former space, Izakaya Torae Torae, I definitely won't be complaining about having a new udon spot. I think the restaurant is walk-in, no reservations, but it wasn't hard to get a table on a Tuesday night. Excited to have a new restaurant to add to our dining out rotation! read more

My friend and I had tried to have lunch at Udon Yonpachi last month, but after circling the area and failing to find parking, we gave up and ate elsewhere. When we made plans for our next lunch, we decided to try again--and this time, luck was on our side. I snagged a spot right out front, and my friend found street parking just around the corner. Inside, the restaurant was only about half full, which we suspect has everything to do with the limited parking situation. We both ordered the set featuring their signature dish: dip-style udon noodles served with a hot, mushroom-filled broth and a choice of pork or chicken, along with a mini salad, kinpira gobo, and mixed rice made with hijiki seaweed. The star of the meal was definitely the noodles. Long, firm, and wonderfully slippery, they had that unmistakable homemade texture that's hard to beat. Everything was flavorful and thoughtfully prepared, and the service was warm and friendly throughout our visit. If there's one downside, it's the parking. Be sure to read the signs carefully--about half of the stalls are reserved for Territorial Savings Bank customers during the day. Still, if you can manage to find a spot, Udon Yonpachi is absolutely worth the effort. read more

Oishii ! For a person that puts udon noodles on the lower side when it comes to noodles. Oishii ( delicious ) is the only way to express my Curry Udon set. Mild Curry flavor broth and soft noodles. Udon Yonpachi is great for a casual udon meal with an izakaya vibe. We went right at 5pm opening on a Friday and got seated immediately. Interior is very similar to the previous tenant, Torae Torae. To start, we got the udon fries and the pork shabu salad. The udon fries are such a novel idea and I loved it! It reminds me of a slightly undercooked french fry that's crispy on the outside and slightly chewy inside. Not to mention the seasoning salt and furikake on the fries was addictive. The salad had a generous portion of pork and yummy onion dressing. I decided on their hot dipping udon with pork and mushrooms. It comes with a plate of cold udon and a super umami broth with a touch of sweetness, packed with pork and mushrooms. The broth comes out piping hot, but since the bowl is so small, it does cool down over time. Also, the broth does not cling to the noodles much, so I found myself sipping some with a spoon with each bite. This dish was so comforting on a rainy day. I'll happily add this place to the rotation of pau hana dinner spots. read more

We checked out Udon Yonpachi, a newer udon spot 7-10 min off the Waikiki strip! It seemed that they are known for their signature dipping udon and pupus so I ordered the niku kinoko jiru tsuke udon with pork, fried tofu, green onions, shiitake mushroom, Shimeji, chili oil, along with a side of agedashi tofu. The wheat noodles were nice and chewy, and the broth was light but full of umami. Tofu was freshly fried and so silky! The service was also super nice - we called ahead with a party of 7 and walked in with no wait at dinner time. Looking forward to coming back next time! read more

Curry Cravings and Saba Dreams at Udon Yonpachi. I kept driving past Udon Yonpachi and finally had to check them out. We came for dinner around 7:30 PM on a Thursday and were seated right away. I noticed most of the other diners were local Japanese, which I took as a very good sign. We started with the Torched Marinated Saba, and it was a delightful appetizer. The marinade had such an addictive flavor, I found myself chasing the last piece before I knew it. Definitely get the Curry Udon, served hot. This umami flavor bomb had me ready to lick the bowl clean. The udon noodles were perfectly chewy with super long strands. I am a messy eater by nature, and with curry broth involved, my shorts got to enjoy some too. Nothing a little Dawn dish soap cannot fix. My partner ordered the Spicy Niku Kinoko Jiru Tsuke Udon, a cold udon with hot dipping broth that featured mushrooms and pork (you pick pork or chicken). The broth had serious heat, about Thai medium level. A little too spicy for me to handle the full bowl, but the flavor was great. Udon Yonpachi delivers cozy flavors, nostalgic ambiance, and a curry broth worth staining your shorts for. Bring an appetite and maybe a bib. read more

Stumbled upon this cozy friendly restaurant. Few pkg stalls out front. Saw that pkg stalls were open but in the time it took to get there from the lane we were in, 3 stalls filled up and just 1 left for us! Yay! Warm greeting upon arrival and seated promptly. Sorry no food pics (forgot) was just enjoying the atmosphere and food! Trust me presentation is nice and the food is great! Fresh udon noodles with that yummy chew texture! No soggy noodles here! Food is served promptly upon being prepared. Perfection! I tried the mushroom set. Plate of Udon noodles are served with bowl of delicious shiitake & shimeiji mushroom filled broth to dip noodles in ( select chicken or pork broth) I chose pork broth and mild spice. Its thinly sliced and tender. Broth was so flavorful! Others ordered pork udon bowl with a side order of tempura soft cooked egg. Thats different! Another combo was a good sized katsudon with small udon included in the set. Im having that next time as I love katsudon! I had a taste..yummy! Everyone enjoyed their meals. My only regret not trying the special appetizer. I was facing the sign so I inquired about it. Chicken skin gyoza (the skin is the wrapper) How brilliant! No carb wrapper! Will try the gyoza the next time I see that special. I also saw an order of takoyaki (at table next to me) which looked delish as well. Must go back! Excellent friendly service, tasty food! The place is Cute and VERY clean! (Side note...it was VERY CLEAN without the off putting & unappetizing smell of disinfectant sprays I seem to find everywhere! Even at places you can visibly see its still NOT clean just smells like chemicals)! They physically clean well so all you see & smell is delicious food being prepared and served! How a restaurant should be Thank you! PS I occasionally react to some MSG. I was a little concerned after we got home because everything was SO tasty, later wondered if food had MSG? That night and next day...I had NO reaction, no headache, Nothing! Just a thought to write this review and plan a return for another delicious meal! read more

Newly opened Udon Yonpachi has been creating such a buzz on social media that I had to try it out for myself. And boy, am I glad I did. You could close your eyes and feel as though you just stepped off the Yamanote train line in Tokyo. I opted for the Niku Kinokojiru set lunch special. Tender, stewed, pork with assorted mushrooms and aburaage in a rich Bonito broth that is both savory and sweet. It paired nicely with the homemade noodles made with Sun Noodles flour. The meal also comes with a green salad, Kimpura Gobo, Asazuke(Japanese pickles) and a small bowl of rice. It's a great deal for just $21. Parking can be a bit challenging as it is a very small parking lot. I'd say about five stalls total in the front. The back lot is mostly reserved for the bank. My pro tip would be go early like 11 o'clock as soon as they open or after the lunch rush. I need to come back for dinner wanted to eat and try it much more things on their menu like their tempura ajitama egg and udon fries. read more

Came for dinner on a Friday night for a party of 8 and were seated immediately. Very friendly staff, cozy ambiance, and superb service--really felt like we were back in Japan! Aunty was so sweet and gave us a sample of the udon fries while we waited for the rest of our group and we loved it :) We ordered the karaage to share and that was very yummy. Most of our group ordered the Nikujuru Kinoko Tsuke Udon and we all enjoyed it. However, if you don't like a strong mushroom essence, I'd recommend getting it without the shrooms. Two people ordered the Pork Shabu Cold Udon and really liked it, and tbh I'd get that one next time as I enjoyed it a tad more than the tsuke one. Service was lovely - friendly, plenty of water, immediate acknowledgement. The ambience feels authentic with old school Japanese music and ad posters hanging along with traditional calligraphy and paintings. You can sit at the counter which is low top so very comfortable or tables. They have two bathrooms in the back. The parking situation is a bit rough - if you're going for dinner park on the side where it's bank parking during the day. Easier to get out. I poorly chose to park in a spot by their entrance and had to back out onto McCully and then make a bunch of u-turns to get where I was going. But at least I got a spot. The food was fine. They have a dipping style of udon so the noodles are on a basket like soba and you dip in a warm broth. I got the spicy one with mushrooms and chicken. I was surprised at the level of spice and my mouth was burning in a good way at the end. The noodles didn't have the toothsome chewy bite that I prefer - a bit soft for me. About $18 for the noodles. Then veggie tempura assortment $11 plus one egg tempura. Total bill for two people for two noodle dishes, veg tempura and egg tempura was $60+. I get that food costs are expensive these days. I guess altogether especially with the rough parking, the soft noodles, and price point maybe I wouldn't necessarily seek to come back hence the 3. Nothing bad it was an ok experience. read more

The servers and kitchen staff were very very busy. Polite service. Seating accommodates singles, couples and families. Since this restaurant has just opened, there are crowds/foodies.
