Eugene Pad Thai (no spice) - A gray plate contains Pad Thai noodles garnished with crushed peanuts, bean sprouts, and chopped green onions. Two lime wedges are placed on the side, and a small white bowl of peanut sauce is included. The dish is set on a colorful, painted wooden table, with a glass of water and a bottle of soy sauce visible in the background.

I met some friends at Ubon who'd been wanting to try it out. You order your food and drinks at the front counter, seat yourself at one of their unique tables, and a kind employee brings you your food. The whole place is covered with beautiful wooden and glass wall hangings (many are for sale!) and there's a little section at the front with smaller items for sale. Overall, you feel like you're in your cool boho aunt's house visiting for dinner. Maybe I'm basic, but I always have to try the pad thai at every thai restaurant I eat at. Ubon was no exception to this. Pad thai is really easy to mess up; it can be too spicy, it can be too dry, it can be too oily... you get the idea. Ubon's pad thai was one of the better I've tried. It was moist, flavorful, and, since they allow you to choose your spice level, not spicy at all. The portion was perfect for one person and I ended up full with no leftovers. Overall, I had a lovely night catching up with friends and I look forward to coming back and trying Ubon's various curries and noodle dishes.

Short: The Massaman Curry is where it's at, Ubon Thai! Plus the spiciness! So yummy! A long overdue review for the number of recommendations I got for this thai spot! [Establishment & Service] the location of Ubon Thai which I've heard used to be a food truck, is really great because it is located in the center of Eugene and it's relatively easy to get to. They also sell art from Southeast Asia, most of which are from Bali, Indonesia, from what I saw. Service is practically just you walk in , menu is by the door, a cashier straight ahead of you and place your order. There is a seasonal and drink menu posted on the wall near the register. The area of the restaurant itself is pretty large it's pretty but to note it is self-bus service. [Food] I got the Pad Thai with spice level 4 with spicy pad thai sauce. I thought this was a really interesting Pad Thai. Because to me it didn't look like the noodles had any peanut sauce, since they separated the peanut sauce to put on yourself for you own liking. I thought this was really peculiar. However I truly did find a super flavorful despite this and the spicy level is definitely a Thai 4 (so pretttyy hot). I extremely enjoyed the spicy pad thai sauce. It was really amazing and spicy! Since it was in a separate cup, I had to put it on myself which was fine just it's not a pad thai format that I'm used to, but I definitely want to go back to eat this again! Someone in my party got the Massaman Curry, a mildly spicy Thai curry, which I ate some of. I don't think a lot of people know this about the Massaman Curry, it is actually a Thai "fusion" since it brings 3 ingredigents from the areas of Persia, India, Malaysia, and Indonesia. It was so flavorful and delicious. Presentation was also nice, Just so well made and flavorfully authentic. Since Massaman Curry, sometimes isn't as popular as the other Thai curries, like Green or Red, it can be hard to find the one that hits all the flavor notes. But at Ubon Thai, it is balanced with the spices, especially with the coconut milk, and not overally overwhelming with heat. Overall, if you're wanting a different kind of Curry from the other Thai curry is like red or green, definitely try out Massaman Curry here, so flavorful! [Overall] I definitely see why a lot of people love Ubon Thai, it was recommended to me a lot!! I'm really glad that I visited and ate. I definitely would want to try the Massaman Curry again & Pad Thai. At the Ubon Thai, just was such a tasty visit and so spicy so if you're a lover of spice you got to go here! Can't wait for my next visit!

This is a long overdue review for visits that happened a couple months ago. I've been wanting to try this place for a long time, but I somehow always wind up at the Fisherman's Market across the street. This visit the Thai food craving was strong. This is a fast, casual dining establishment--no table service, other than your food getting served to you. Order and pay at the counter and your food is delivered to your table. The food service was quick Our first visit, we order the mango curry and was really blown away--the flavor, the portion and overall presentation was amazing--my partner could not get enough of the sauce, he enjoyed it thoroughly. My go-to meal whenever I visit new Thai restaurants is always the pumpkin curry, I was not disappointed. The taste was amazing, although I think the pumpkin could have been simmered a little longer; not ever piece was tender. We also ordered the batter fried scallops appetizer. The scallops were medium sized, and appeared to be fried in a panko crumb batter versus a wet batter. The overall result was crispy and not greasy. The plum sauce served with the scallops reminded me more of the May Ploy brand chili sauce. Our overall experience was very good and we were satisfied with our meals. Subsequent visits yielded different results--the mango curry was not a good as our previous experience and it seemed to be flavorless and bland. Both the green curry and chicken teriyaki was unmemorable. This was a completely different experience from our first visit. However, do not let my review prevent you from visiting/supporting this establishment.

We love the vibe here!! Food was super good and spicy. People working were also super friendly. We loved sitting outside and can't wait to come back!

Aah.. Ubon Thai! This is some of the best Thai food I have ever had, and yea, I've had Thai in Bangkok, this stuff is good! I opted for the Pad Thai with shrimp and the spice level at 1.5. I mixed in the nuts and bean sprouts and poured the sauce over it all. The noodles were timed perfectly, the bean sprouts were extremely fresh and crispy. The shrimp tails were easy to remove and the peanut sauce had a perfect amount of heat for me with the flavor combination being spot on! We also had a calamari appetizer along with some potstickers. The calamari was breaded and cooked very well, it wasn't rubbery or chewy. The potstickers were crispy, hot and packed full of veggies.

    30. Yellow Curry - A plastic cup containing Thai iced tea with a lid and a bowl of cooked white rice with a metal spoon are placed on a table. The background includes a plastic bag, a black appliance, and a blender, indicating a casual dining or kitchen environment.

Where's my food?? Curious where the rest of my food went? Literally just got home to eat, and this is what I have.

    60. Salad Rolls - Four Vietnamese spring rolls wrapped in translucent rice paper, containing visible ingredients such as lettuce, carrots, and shrimp. They are arranged in a plastic container alongside a small cup of dipping sauce, likely peanut or hoisin. The rolls are neatly packed, showcasing fresh ingredients typical of Vietnamese cuisine.

I had the Eugene pad Thai with the salad rolls. Food was delicious!! The food also comes fast which is nice!

My first encounter with Ubon Thai was when they were a food truck and I was so happy when they opened a brick and mortar. This is an especially nice spot on nice days where you can sit in their garden. It could be kept up a little more, but who doesn't love eating outside? The menu is rather large but organized well so it doesn't get overwhelming. Their spice levels run hot- I usually do a 1.5 and call it good. Their flavors are on point, and the veggies are fresh and cooked well. They have service at the counter with some cocktail options, once you order up front they bring it to your table.

I went in expecting a quick bite and left wondering if I should cancel my flight and commit to a long-term relationship with their menu. The service was the kind that makes you feel like a regular even if it's your first visit: attentive without hovering, friendly without forcing it. You know, the sweet spot most places miss by a mile. The ambiance strikes that rare balance: polished enough to feel like you made a good decision, but relaxed enough that no one's judging you for aggressively enjoying your curry. Now, the portions. Let's just say I arrived hungry and quickly realized I had made a tactical error by also having a flight to catch. The plates are generous. Borderline ambitious. Under different circumstances I would've happily taken half of it home. And the price? Genuinely refreshing. You get high-quality food, generous portions, and excellent service without that subtle sting of regret when the bill arrives. It feels almost suspiciously reasonable. I walked in trying to kill time before a flight and walked out wondering if I should start scheduling layovers in Eugene on purpose.

I came here on a Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was bustling. We got seated right away at a booth with a window view. My waitress was an older Asian lady. She was very nice, not too talkative, but she was on top of her things. I was craving soup and decided on the highly recommended tom kha with tofu. To start, we had thai tea, thai coffee and the shrimp triangle. For our entrees, we decided on the pad see eu (they spell it pad se eu here), panang curry. The shrimp triangles were very yummy. Definitely get those. The thai tea and coffee was good, but just a little watered. I expected the taste to last in my mouth for a little bit. But it didn't. For the soup, I was excited to taste the soup! It smelled really good and it was boiling hot. My thought after my first sip of Tom Kha was, ok, this is good, they got it, but it just wasn't quite there. I couldn't pinpoint what was missing. Then I figured out that they didn't use full coconut milk. It was just a little bit and it was the lighter version. How disappointing! I wanted the robust tang, spice and coconut like how I have at home. The entrees made me sad. I really, really wanted to love it. The panang curry should be rich, thick and creamy. Instead it was soupy. I was really expecting and wanting the curry to stick to my rice, but instead it made soupy curry rice. My daughter pointed out that the curry and the tom kha soup was the same color and consistency. I didn't want to believe, but I think they used the same base and added the appropriate toppingss and seasonings to make a soup and a curry. My saddest dish was my last one that came out. It was the pad se eu. The wide rice noodles was wet and in broken pieces. I'm Asian and I'm from Vegas via Hawaii which means we have a lot of Asian cuisines, we know our food and have friends who work in high end Thai restaurants. (Think Lotus of Siam) When rice noodles break into smaller pieces, it means the noodles are probably not fresh and got hard. To soften, the cook used extra water and the heat was not high enough to cook, so it stuck to pan, making the cook mix it around more...broken wet noodles that doesn't brown. Overall, I really wanted to love this place. It has potential. Maybe it was an off day but on that day I went, it didn't give me the wow I expected. Most of the items has the taste on point. Please don't water down the curry or use lower fat coconut cream. I'm not used to having regular brocolli in thai food either, but I guess this is what Eugene likes or what we can get. And people, share your food! Thai food is family style! Share it! Put it in the middle of the table and let the other person have some! I was people watching around my table and my table was the only one that didn't have our own entree per person. lol

Anyway we ordered through a delivery app on a Thursday evening. We ordered pad se ew with pork, medium spice level, pad kee mao with chicken, medium spice level, the OMG and pot stickers, and a Thai Iced tea. The iced tea was warm, I'm not sure there was ever ice in it, however, that did mean I got more actual drink that I would normally get. The two apps were in open-topped baskets and stacked on top of each other in the bag. Both were bland. The sweet & sour type sauce that came with the OMG really made it edible. Between the two main dishes we ordered, I honestly could not tell which was which. What I believe was supposed to be my kee mao with chicken, might have been beef but even after trying a few pieces I'm not certain it was beef. The other dish didn't look like any kind of pad se ew or kee mao I'd ever seen and the meat might have been pork or chicken, honestly I don't know. Neither dish was even close to spicy or a flavor we enjoyed. I doused the unconfirmed kee mao with sriracha and ate it, because at that point I was pretty hungry and what am I going to do? Call and return it? Unfortunately, this was our first experience with Sweet Basil and probably will be our last.

We were the only ones in the dining room with two waitstaff. After we ordered, we hear someone from the kitchen yell, "oh shit!". We never learned why that was said but i can tell you that the dining experience was not pleasant. We started with an order of Spring Rolls, which were okay but extremely cold in the center - maybe they had been made far in advance and left in a very cold refrigerator for too long? Two sauces were served, but failed to provide spoons to use for those rolls - and we had to ask for serving utensils AND napkins. Then the extremely bland Tom Kha soup, served in a large bowl but then failed to provide individual bowls or spoons to eat it (come on servers, have you never eaten soup and know you need spoons and bowls for soup?!). UNtasty Thai Kitchen's take on phad thai was pretty terrible as well. And their larb (which they spell as laarp) was gritty and really unpleasant. We did not eat much of this meal and simply asked for boxes to take home... Upon leaving, I asked their staff if they recently had a change in the kitchen staff and they said no,.it was the same chef. If so,it certainly did not seem as it was a few months prior. You've lost three customers for this was a pretty awful experience. Happy to discuss this further, if you wish to reach out. UPDATE: Talked with their manager, Griffin, and he was very apologetic about the experience and offered either a credit or refund back to my account. I notice that their menu is huge, with a ton of specials. Great for those who want variety every time they come. 5 stars for friendliness and fast service. The guy who works there is as nice as can be. 1 star for salad rolls. It says "fresh vegetables" but the roll had one miniscule piece of tofu (1/2 inch wide?) and the rest is pure lettuce. I think there were a couple mint leaves in there. No carrots, cuke, cilantro, or any other kind of vegetable you can imagine, and barely any tofu. Peanut sauce was delicious and worth adding to the order, as the chili sauce it comes with is ok but syrupy sweet. Adding in the peanut sauce for $2, that came to $10 for lettuce. Inflation is hitting us all hard... restaurants included. But tofu and carrots are not that expensive, right? And if they ran out of ingredients, they should just say so. Yelping about petty things is not a nice thing to do. This review reflects my frustration about a broader pattern that goes beyond this one restaurant (which is why I don't include this in the star rating). Eugene restaurants often do not try to keep up basic standards because there's insufficient competition, and they get away with things that wouldn't fly in a big city. I wish more restaurants, including food trucks, took pride in what they put on the plate.
