The rare wood fired Thai beef salad
Martin C.

I had the rare wood fired Thai beef salad, it was amazing! I also had the Apple Manhattan, and it was delicious also. Nice ambiance, with a lot of locals and foot traffic from the street. Great service as well.

I swear this place gets better every time I go. It makes me so happy to have this level of quality Thai food, and our town. Quite simply, they are crushing it. We went recently and had yummy cocktails, good wine, and lots of excellent food. I highly recommend the Thai lemonade cocktail. We ordered the coconut shrimp, which normally I wouldn't get, but these were pretty darn good. And these pan fried dumplings that were super crispy and filled with pork and shrimp. We got the crispy rice salad, which was mine blowing delicious. One of the specials of the night that was a crispy duck curry. Outstanding! And a pork and noodle dish that was beautifully seasoned. I've also had their green papaya salad before, and it is a generous portion, and very refreshing The service was excellent, and despite how crowded it was, the noise level was perfectly reasonable. So the acoustics are good. This place is great for takeout.

My first visit since they relocated from Wildcraft Brewery. This location is so much bigger and spacious--it definitely has a more upscale vibe compared to the brewery. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. I love the new location, it's bright and cheerful. The menu is for the most part the same, but they added a Wood-fired section with Thai inspired pizza. They also have seasonal specialties--my personal favorite is their Duck & Pineapple curry. Also new to the menu (for me) is the alcohol/cocktails selection, as well as mocktails for the non-alcohol drinkers. The food was amazing! The braised lamb shank was falling off the bone delicious and mildly spicy, the chicken wing were so crispy (& still tasty as next day leftovers), the duck was tender and curry really flavorful--good portion of duck, the crab fried rice had chunks of crab and was very tasty. The dessert was a recommendation by our server and it was amazing--baked bananas, a hint of sweetness and the ice cream was so refreshing, bite for bite; reminded me of a bananas foster, but this was much better! Our server was very attentive and checked on us periodically. Our visit was a special evening, celebrating my son's 21st birthday, so he comped us dessert.

The massaman curry at Krob Krua is probably my all time favorite massaman curry, it is a MUST ORDER!! You get a lot of curry for the price too, definitely enough to share or have leftovers. I love the eggplant also, but wish it was a bit more garlicky. Both dishes are great with the purple sticky rice. Service was good, but I wish that you were able to get seated first before ordering.

Off the charts! This food was very delicious! I was excited to get the Sautéed "Garlic Eggplant Basil" dish. I love eggplant when prepared like this. I chose Tofu as my protein and brown rice as the base, and the proportions were very generous as well. Which I was very thrilled about, I wasn't able to eat all of my dinner, but I'm looking forward to lunch tomorrow. I also got their Golden Milk Tea, although it wasn't how I make it at home, it was tasty and had a very nice presentation. I loved the whole ambiance of the place, and the staff were very friendly and efficient. This place is amazing and I can't recommend it enough!

Garlic Eggplant Basil.. beautiful but tasteless
Ilona S.

I so wish to have really liked this Thai food place since I heard good things about it. But it was a rather disappointing meal for us. The vegetable spring rolls were spot on: hot and crispy and a sweet chili dipping sauce. This was the highlight of the meal. The Pad See Yew (wide rice noodles) were ok but we had it with chicken on the side since there was a vegetarian in the group... that chicken was tasteless, rubbery and very unappetizing, even when I stirred it thru my pad See Yew sauce and noodles on my plate. The garlic eggplant Basil was so incredibly bland, no taste of garlic at all. Some pieces of the eggplant were undercooked and too tough to eat, others were snotty overcooked. But the whole dish had absolutely no taste to it. We ordered it mild since "moderate" is supposed to have the spice level of Habaneros, pretty spicy. Too bad that "mild" meant totally flavorless. The decor is nice , front room better than the back room: this back one looks tru a glass door and glass wall to a space with fermentation vats which apparently now is used for storage. Not appealing and so easy to take care of with a curtain or blinds or window-cling. No points for decorating on that part of the restaurant. The entrance is nice and well laid out. Parking for about 20 cars or so and otherwise street parking. Service was good.

Food was hot and fresh. We did a group lunch order today and everyone loved their choices!

Krob Krua isn't bad, but I think there are better Thai places in Eugene for the price. I was generally underwhelmed by the flavors here and the portion sizes. Usually at Thai restaurants you can get at least 2 meals from leftovers. Here we had nearly none. In my opinion, you get better flavor and more food at Ta Ra Rin.

We got seated right away at a booth with a window view. My waitress was an older Asian lady. She was very nice, not too talkative, but she was on top of her things. I was craving soup and decided on the highly recommended tom kha with tofu. To start, we had thai tea, thai coffee and the shrimp triangle. For our entrees, we decided on the pad see eu (they spell it pad se eu here), panang curry. The shrimp triangles were very yummy. Definitely get those. The thai tea and coffee was good, but just a little watered. I expected the taste to last in my mouth for a little bit. But it didn't. For the soup, I was excited to taste the soup! It smelled really good and it was boiling hot. My thought after my first sip of Tom Kha was, ok, this is good, they got it, but it just wasn't quite there. I couldn't pinpoint what was missing. Then I figured out that they didn't use full coconut milk. It was just a little bit and it was the lighter version. How disappointing! I wanted the robust tang, spice and coconut like how I have at home. The entrees made me sad. I really, really wanted to love it. The panang curry should be rich, thick and creamy. Instead it was soupy. I was really expecting and wanting the curry to stick to my rice, but instead it made soupy curry rice. My daughter pointed out that the curry and the tom kha soup was the same color and consistency. I didn't want to believe, but I think they used the same base and added the appropriate toppingss and seasonings to make a soup and a curry. My saddest dish was my last one that came out. It was the pad se eu. The wide rice noodles was wet and in broken pieces. I'm Asian and I'm from Vegas via Hawaii which means we have a lot of Asian cuisines, we know our food and have friends who work in high end Thai restaurants. (Think Lotus of Siam) When rice noodles break into smaller pieces, it means the noodles are probably not fresh and got hard. To soften, the cook used extra water and the heat was not high enough to cook, so it stuck to pan, making the cook mix it around more...broken wet noodles that doesn't brown. Overall, I really wanted to love this place. It has potential. Maybe it was an off day but on that day I went, it didn't give me the wow I expected. Most of the items has the taste on point. Please don't water down the curry or use lower fat coconut cream. I'm not used to having regular brocolli in thai food either, but I guess this is what Eugene likes or what we can get. And people, share your food! Thai food is family style! Share it! Put it in the middle of the table and let the other person have some! I was people watching around my table and my table was the only one that didn't have our own entree per person. lol
