A great place for lunch. I haven't tried anything else yet. The food is fresh and delicious and the service excellent. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that they put the cold salad in with the hot food so when I got home it was warm and wilted but the next time I went I asked for a separate container and offered to pay but they did it without a charge (so got a better tip ). My wife and I are both retired chefs and we drove for an hour to try the Angkor Cambodian Cafe based on the recommendations found on Yelp. We very much enjoy traveling and trying good food. This is what we experienced during our visit. I ordered the Stuffed Chicken as an appetizer and the Phnom Penn Noodles as the main dish. My wife ordered the Egg Role as a starter and the Cha Eggplant with Tofu as the main dish. The atmosphere is warm and very inviting. The staff are the very definition of hospitality. Now on to the review of the cuisine. The Stuffed Chicken is absolutely wonderful. What an amazing flow of delicate and delicious flavors. The out side is crispy with a center of fresh good quality ingredients that are perfect combined over all purely delicious. The sauce is a very nice compliment to the dish. The Egg Rolls are crispy and very enjoyable. The dipping sauce also compliments the Egg Rolls very nicely. For the main course: The Phnom Penn Noodles are excellent. Right out of the gate you can tell that the broth is hand made and not out of a can or box. Outstanding. The shrimp was perfectly cooked on over done like it sat in a pot all day. The pork and pork ball are amazing. This is a must try dish with a great balance of flavor and texture. Definitely a must try. Cha Eggplant is very good. When I first walked in, I was seated right away as it was not too busy. After looking over the menu, I decided to order the angel wings and beef lok lak. The angel wings were nice and crispy have I liked how it was deboned but I wished it had a little bit more flavor. The beef lok lak was tender and I loved the pickles that came on the side. It was a little bit on the salty side but the sunny side up egg and rice helped balance it out. Overall, I would recommend this place as an introduction to Khmer food. WOW! WOW! WOW! It took me way too long, but I finally made it here. And the food blew my mind. I would describe Cambodian food as a delicious mixture of Thai and Vietnamese. It seems to lack the spicy heat of Thai. Lemongrass seems to be a popular ingredient. I tried 3 dishes -- the garlic chicken wings appetizer, the Machu Khmer soup, and the Cha Krung stir-fry plate with beef. All of these were absolutely incredible and I would happily get all of these again. The wings were absolutely lovely with amazing crunchy texture and flavors from the roasted garlic, lime juice and house seasoning. The slight little tang at the end of every bite just took it to the next level. Do not even think twice about getting these wings. They are a must. The Machu Khmer soup ($11) is described as "sweet and sour soup with pineapple, tomato, lotus root, basil, green onion and garlic". I chose chicken as my protein. This was just magical. There was a little sour, sweet, and some spice. All the ingredients came together in perfect harmony. This honestly might be the best soup-eating experience I've had. The Cha Krung stir-fry plate ($14) was just lovely. I appreciated the generous amount of veggies (carrots, zucchini, celery) which were cooked perfectly, along with the beef. The lemongrass-based sauce tied everything together in the best way. There is also a full bar. Unfortunately they were out of the Cambodian beer but the Singha (Thai) beer was light and crisp and was an excellent pairing with the food. The interior is cozy and casual. We were there at 7pm on a Saturday and there was plenty of room. There is a parking lot in the back. Service was warm and prompt. Honestly I am still in awe over how great everything was. The flavors, textures and overall presentation of all the food left nothing more to be desired. We are very lucky to have a place like this in Eugene and I am so excited to dive into this extensive menu, there is so much good stuff. I think I'll be trying the curries next. I like this place a lot. Their lunch specials are competitively priced and always fresh and delicious! I often will call ahead for a to-go order. All my interactions with the staff in person and via phone call have been positive and professional. Tip: if you get a to go lunch special, it doesn't include a side salad (unless you do sit down service). Ask the employee if they can add it to your to go box, they are very accomodating! My ladyfriend had the Curry off the lunch Special and I had the Eggplant with chicken lunch. I asked the Host and she said they used thigh and not breast meat. Breast meat sucks in stir-fries. We also enjoyed the combo app. The assortment was a good value, and the four elements were all temp hot, but the standout was the coco shrimp. Often imitated, rarely done right. My first visit was great because I've been craving Khmer comfort food badly and was able to overlook a lot of things. Service was phenomenal. But Prahok ktiss was different - put over rice instead of a dip. Also dry rather than oily but tasted good. Had to order a side of steamed veggies because they only included a tiny pile of shredded "salad" - cabbage and iceberg lettuce. Srolaw machu kreung - my favorite khmer stew - was far too sour and meat sank to the bottom while tiny pieces of celery floated on top. I'd only get the prahok ktiss again and that to-go so i can make my own veggies and more rice at home. Second visit would have been good if I wasn't a person who liked some level of spice. Amok trey was a tiny serving for $17 and was ok. I expected more flavor. Angel wings were drumettes instead of wings and though had a good flavor, was not spicy in the slightest. And papaya salad was not spicy at all either. I'll try and see if i can order them with spice added next time. 25/9/23-17:15-This place is a little strange. When we entered there was no one to greet us. So, we grabbed the menus and found a table ourselves. There were only two other parties in the restaurant. I kept getting up and going to the front to find someone and after several attempts, a woman finally appeared from the kitchen. She was VERY nice and accommodating. We ordered the salad rolls which were huge and very tasty. I had the larb guy chicken with sticky rice. Cambodian food is a little different tasting but very good. The sticky rice was a little hard. Service was excellent and dining room and very large. The other strange thing is that there was a separate area for KENO and gambling, and someone was behind the wall playing loud games, so, this might be an issue as the dining room is a bit echoey. We ordered many dishes including beef noodle soup, fish amok, Loat cha (short rice noodles), garlic chicken, to name a few. Put some of the garlic chicken sauce on your rice...you'll be happy you did. The owner came out to personally ask how we liked the food. I'm visiting from Hawaii but will make this a definite stop next time I'm here. They also had a well stocked bar, clean restrooms and restaurant which holds high value for me being from Hawaii.
