The reps at U-Stor-It have always been phenomenal anytime I visit. The inside units are climate control, and the space always has available dolly's. Since I'm moving, I had to get a larger unit for my move they made it seamless. It took less than 15 minutes to transfer for a new account which was time efficient. The facility is open until 10 pm which is great for people who work late hours and sometimes can't go during normal business hours. The rates are good and it's why I've stuck with them for the past few years. read more

I've been a customer at the Beverly location in Chicago for over 15 years. I carry a large corporate certificate of insurance that the U Stor It Beverly location is well aware of. The certificate of insurance copy was due by the end of September. I brought it in on 9/30/24 and they charged me a $32 late fee. I asked the site manager to give me the number of someone I can talk with at U- Stor- It about this issue and she refused. She basically told me to "move out if you're not happy". I have a number of issues with this location from excessive rate increases, special surcharges and fluid leaking from a open pipe onto my belongings. This may be the end of the line with U-Stor-It for me. Renting a storage locker shouldn't be this difficult, but these folks seem to be "trying" to be difficult with no idea what customer service is. THE WORST SERVICE!!! This is a scam facility. I specifically asked about 24 hour access before storing my car there and the manager called mike assured me it was 24/7. I paid on advance two months to leave my car there for the winter since I needed to travel to the west coast. When I arrived there at night the gate won't open showed "access denied" had to leave my car in a different place. I asked for a refund and they denied it claiming it was a "software technology glitch" as per Their deceiving contract. They did not refund. Came back to the Midwest in November 26th within the two months I paid on advanced (to end Dic 14h and tried to access again, and again, access denied and the code was not even recognized. FRAUD. STOLE MY MONEY. They cover behind software glitches to avoid responsibility. PUBLIC STORAGE IS BETTER don't use this u-stor-it facility. I sent a complain to BBB and will proceed legally. I rented a unit in this facility for around 3 months. I have no issues with the facility whatsoever, it's clean and nice. However, they have shared my information with outside vendors. I moved out at the end of August, and just received a phone call from Angies List. The gal at Angies List (I am a member) said that U-Stor-It in Lisle was getting onto their site and gave them my information to get some feedback. What the hell??? Seriously? U-Stor-it felt that it was OK to hand over my name, address, and phone number to a website totally unrelated to their primary business. I asked the girl at Angies List how in the world this connection was made. She said flat out that U-Stor-It Lisle provided the information to them. I said well I guess my otherwise positive feedback has now turned to extremely negative. I never provided permission, implicit or otherwise, to sell or otherwise use my personal information. I looked over my rental agreement with U-Stor-It and there are no documents related to sharing information with a 3rd party. Because why would there be? This is a storage locker facility right? why would they give ut your info? Great questions, but it just happened. read more

I wanted to write some more about this place. I recently had to upgrade my unit to a larger one since I am selling my home and am in the process of staging. The manager, Phillip, was incredibly helpful. He helped me make the transitions I needed in a quick, easy, and polite manner. The prices are reasonable and they allow for auto-pay. It's great to not have to remember to make the payment every month. The facility is clean and I can tell that the staff cares about the appearance and the functionality of everything. I will continue to give this facility my business as long as I remain in the area. read more

I am so sad to say that we will be getting all of our stuff out of U-Stor-It this weekend because of all the ridiculous price increases on their storage spaces. When we first rented our facility in June 2012 it was $70. And now, as a thanks for being a loyal customer, they have raised our unit to $99 a month. for a 10x5 storage unit!! And for what? Paying for one guy to meander around the place and make sure it stays clean? Even the lights aren't on all the time. Regardless of the facility, your rent should not increase that much without a valid reason. I am severely disappointed in their service. read more

This U Store It in Lisle has terrible customer service! We were 5 days late, and on the 5th day, June 9th, (the bill was due June 4th) they applied a 20% late fee. It came to $50.00 When we called, and explained to them that we were acting in good faith, and paying by the 5th day, they said, "Oh sorry the first day started on June 4th, so we will not be waiveing the late fee." This place doesn't care about the customer at all!!! When they say things like, "In the contract..... you signed..... " Seriously, we are still in a pandemic and are paying within the window of time. Don't use this place as a storage facility, go anywhere else, and I mean Anywhere, and you will get better customer service than this place! The facility is clean, there are cameras so I know it's secure, and the managers are very capable. Do not use this storage facility! Management is rude and VERY uncooperative. The manager was supposed to give me 24 hour access. When he forgot I WAS LOCKED IN THE YARD for over a half hour at 10:30pm until police came. His response was "sometimes this happens" with NO APOLOGY. Rate adjustment every 3 months. WTF? First time it happened I spoke with someone who said that 'periodically, we adjust the rates based on demand and market price (ie compare to other storage places). OK, fine. I can buy that. But every 3 months? Had another rate increase and was really irritated. The whole point of getting a storage unit is to store stuff and forget about it. Set my account to auto pay and leave it alone. Why the rate increase? You already have my business. This time it happened, I looked at what local competitors are charging, and their rates are lower! I've tried calling a number of times, and never had the actual location to answer the phone. Kept getting passed along to the general answering group, who can't tell me anything because the local office manages the accounts. Left a message with the general answering group to make sure the local manager gets in touch with me. No response. Emailed the next day requesting a copy of my contract thinking this would be a good way to really get an understanding of how they could possibly increase the rates based on what I interpret to be BS explanation. (I forwarded the email THEY sent me telling me that my account was charged for this month to the location, so I am waiting to get a response saying they cant send out that information via email, or some other excuse). No response. Time to move my business elsewhere. By the way, I have no problem paying X amount for the storage unit, whether it is expensive or cheap- I just want to pay the price, and lock it in (or at least CLEARLY define in the contract when the rates will go up). If you are going to increase every three months automatically, regardless of whatever the competition is doing, THEN JUST PUT THAT INTO YOUR CONTRACTS. WHY ARE YOU BEING SHADY ABOUT IT? RESPONSE TO U-STOR-IT COMMENT BELOW ON APRIL 14, 2015 You'll notice my original review was posted in July of 2014, I stayed until April 4th because I had no where else to take my belongings and eventually accepted the outrageous expense, but after seeing that the pattern of rate increases was coming LESS THAN 12 MONTHS from the first one I realized I needed to abandon what I could and shove the rest of my belongings into my small apartment until I move to a house in 2016 so I wouldn't be giving you one more dollar. Here is what you provided me for my $70, then $89, and now $99 dollars a month (between April 2014 and April 2015) so others can make up their own mind. 1. 1 indoor 10x5 closet. 2. No response to the e-mail I sent to lisle@u-storit.com on June 3, 2014 3. 2-3 week delayed phone reply from the area general manager after I came in the office asking to speak with her multiple times. 4. Saturday office employee on April 4, 2015 who would not fully complete my unit vacate since it was a few minutes before closing time. 5. Other office employees that sit on Facebook during the day. 6. Harassment through comments on yelp by other U-Stor-It associates that post bogus reviews to bump up your average recently. Sounds like a great value, I should really change my review to 5 stars, what am I thinking? You can hide behind your comment below claiming that you are staying competitive however when you mail out your Rate Increase Notices, it says NOTHING about that, instead it says you are raising to provide great customer service and high standards (see all of my great customer service return above). Really you are just running a business on the ethics of greed. Why don't you respond to my actual claims on your poor customer service? UPDATE ON APRIL 1, 2015: Lisle U-Stor It raises the rent 10 more dollars so they can keep providing me with the great customer service I deserve. PREVIOUS REVIEW: I have been a customer of the U-Stor-It Lisle location for 2 years but felt I should warn customers of other U-Stor-It locations. When I began renting my 10x5 storage unit the cost was $70 a month - a bit steep in my opinion but the storage unit is indoors which was fine. On May 29, 2014 I received a "Rate Change Notice" in the mail stating that "In order to maintain our high standards and provide you with the customer service you deserve, we find it necessary to increase your monthly rental rate effective June 28, 2014. For any questions about your notice please call your U-Stor-It Clybourn facility manager at (312) 255-9900." The rate change went from $70 to $89 a month!! 27% or $228 more a year for a 10x5 storage unit over the course of a year, out of the blue. First I called the Clybourn number provided. Whoever answered the phone there acted as they knew nothing about it and said I needed to contact the Lisle manager and said they would forward my number to them, I waited, a little over a week, no response from Lisle. I then emailed my dissatisfaction to the lisle@ustorit.com email address, again, almost a week, no response. Next I went into the office and talked to the manager Duane, he gave me the song and dance about cost of living increases, yada yada, I pushed more and said your bills have gone up 27% in 2 years? He fumbled around and said, "well we are trying to stay competitive with the other storage facilities" and proceeded to tell me how much more my unit would cost down the street. I thought staying competitive was keeping your costs low and I asked him, "so basically this is a cash grab, your competitors are charging more than you so you want more money too?" He said "yes." I explained my displeasure, said they are lying to their customers about providing better customer service since I couldn't even get a phone call back or an email, and demanded to talk to an owner or a manager. Long story short after another phone call, and two more visits, one in which I made Duane call the regional manager in front of me, where he pushed back from the desk so I couldn't hear what she was saying, I heard him leave a phony VM message while I hear her in the background saying "HELLO? HELLO?" and I called him out on that saying this was BS, she was on the phone, he told me thats how her voicemail message sounds. Finally a week later she calls me back saying she was out of the country, mildly apologized for my displeasure but basically said the same thing, we want more money because others are getting it. I'll be moving my stuff out promptly but wanted to share my plight with other potential customers of this company and ALL of its other locations. Lies and not returning calls and e-mails for weeks is not how you treat customers. Honesty, good customer service, and fair pricing increases are how you should run a business. read more

Update: We ultimately closed our unit due to the price increase. I would have definitely kept the unit had the price not increased without us being informed. I couldn't get over that bad experience. We checked out other facilities and while they weren't as clean as U-Stor-It, they were less expensive and provided better service. --- Original post with edits: My experiences with U-Stor-It were generally positive, but overall, i wouldn't recommend them. The facility was always clean and well kept. We occasionally found cigarette butts in our unit but you cant count that against the management because it was probably some other tenant walking around throwing them, and it isn't like they could walk in our unit to clean it. The staff was very nice and overall it is just a great facility. The one bad experience I had with then resulting in my leaving. I was going through my monthly bills and found a significant increase in my U-Stor-It bill. I compared the invoices from the previous months and was surprised to find a price increase. It was a 20% increase in rent and about a 15% increase of my total bill. I called them to inquire and the rep said it was a rental increase (she referred to it with a specific type of increase that I can't recall) and that we were informed by mail. I told her we never received anything in the mail and that we had only had the unit for four months. She responded by just repeating herself. I asked her why they hadn't given us a call or emailed us as that is how they previously communicated with us. After repeating herself another time, I realized she wasn't going to help so I just got off the phone. Almost exactly 4 weeks later.. we received something in the mail informing us of the price increase. It is really difficult to give a rating, because I'd generally this place is overall a 5 star. However, the good experiences are overshadowed by that negative experience. I wasn't willing to pay the price increase, but the cost of relocating it would have far outweighed the price increase, so they pretty much had me in a bind. read more

Terrible experience. Quoted a price that included the "1st Month Free". Offered a " discounted price" because the unit we selected had two poles in the middle of the space. Between the time I expressed and interest in the space and the time I returned to pay for it, the employee notified me she had made a mistake and could not offer the free month because it was the last unit. When I pointed out the large sign outside the building offering the free month, I was told by the employee and the manager that it did not apply to every situation. Bad business model and glad I walked. Fortunately their competitor provided me with a solution over the phone, $1 for the first month and the employees could not have been more accommodating. read more

What a complete scam this place is. I saw the bad reviews, but thought, that won't happen to me! I'm on top of things! But that doesn't matter. After canceling 2 weeks prior to the next billing, MIKE, the manager kept charging my card. After calling, he said he saw that I canceled in the proper time, but there was nothing he could do. No refunds. But he said he would look in to it and try. Fast forward to the next month. I get another invoice! He did nothing. Nothing at all. I reserved a unit online to move things in the next day. A few minutes later I called and confirmed that I could stop in the next day to complete the in-person pieces of the process and begin moving things in. Upon arriving the next day, they told me that the price changed so they would need to call the Pricing Manager. After waiting about 20 minutes, I asked them if they could call again and I got ignored. We asked again and got a snippy "I'm working on it" reply. A little while later I asked if it was going to take much longer and they proceeded to tell me they could show me the unit but they didn't know how long it would take. They should've been able to honor the quoted price and I should not have had to wait nor get treated with a bad attitude. The girl also made comments about another customer stating that she didn't care if she caused a customer to become irritated and she only cared what the manager thought. On that note, I left and went to the other storage across the street, where I had a much better customer service experience. read more

BEWARE! These guys are thieves. After 6 months renting here the raised my rent by 80% without notice, which is illegal-they said they sent a notification but it never showed up in my mailbox until I complained. They never responded to emails regarding wind damage to my unit. When I recently terminated my account they refused to refund my early payment for the next month which had never even started. Do not, for ANY reason store your belongings here. This place advertises one price, and springs hidden fees on you at the last minute. I had asked for my bililng date to be moved from the 1st of the month to the 30th due to a tragic death in the family, and was assured that this was not a problem. Come the 30th, I find that no one there notated on my account that the billing date was changed, though they had the record of the call, so I was charged a $50 late fee plus an additonal $100 fee that NOT ONE PERSON mentioned the 4 times I had to remind them that I was approved for a payment date change. Phillip, the manager handled the situation in THE MOST unprofesisonal manner I have ever expeienced. When I explained the situation he was rude, abrasive, and loud to the point of brining me to tears. I have never witnessed such unprofessionalisim in life, and if not for the fact that my belongings were stored there I would have terminated my business right then and there. There are plenty of storage units in the Chicagoland area, so I urge you to AVOID this one no matter what! The employees are incompetent and the manager shouldn't be allowed to deal with the public in any capacity what so ever....there's a reason they don't have 5 or even 4 stars, don't be fooled by their charm, they just want your money and will get it any way they can and once you're locked in with them, you turn into just a dollar sign! read more

We've been renting a 10 x 20 since July and our price supposedly has jumped up from $155 to $229 a month! That's a $74 increase! They're crazy to think that's ok. We understand that the pricing comes down from corporate. However, we've done a little investigating and realized that they're attempting to charge us for a climate control unit...we have a drive up, outdoor unit! According to them, when we called asking for a quote, pretending we were a new customer interested in possibly renting a unit, they told us a drive up was $199, climate control was $229. We called back later asking to speak to a manager and told him what we had found out, hoping that the manager would see the mistake and correct it. Instead, he seemed confused, took our contact information and said he would call back. And he never did! The manager didn't call us back!! Someone with a long retail and customer service background, such as myself, is very upset that even the manager can't handle a customer complaint properly! So...here I sit writing a review instead, when they should've handled this by just returning my phone call. Not to mention, we received the bill stating the increase without receiving a notice first. When we called first in regards to that, the person said he noticed that for some reason we didn't get a notice, was going to call the manager and see what he could do. He didn't call us back! Instead, they sent out the notice two days later! Oh...and wait! There's more...we can go across the street at another storage facility and pay $169 a month for a drive up.. That's right! We can go right across the street and pay $169 a month! For a savings of $60 a month(that's $720 a year, folks) I'll take my stuff across the street! read more

I submitted an online reservation at the end of january 2015 to move into a 5x10 storage unit on 2/28/15. I arrived on 2/28 and U Stor It had no idea of my reservation. I pulled out the email confirmation I had printed and showed them that I was supposed to move in on 2/28 at a starting rate of $55, and then it would jump to 69.00 after the first month. The manager behind the desk said that because he didn't have my reservation, he could only charge me the full 69.00 to move in. I told him it was unacceptable and that I would only pay the $55 i was promised from my email. So the manager called another manager at another store to no avail, so the manager called the district manager. The district manager apparently told the manager in front of me that there was nothing they could do. After i expressed my complete disapproval of the company, the manager said the reservation I had from online was only good for 2 weeks from the date of the reservation. so i told the manager that he could charge me the $55 i was owed and they could eat the additional money to make it 69, or i was going to take my business directly across the street to a public storage unit. the manager said he couldn't eat the extra money so I told him that the company was bullshit, and I walked out the door. As i left, the manager said absolutely nothing. It was clear that they really didn't care about getting business. I'd warn anybody looking for a storage unit to NEVER use this company!!! read more
