I happened to find them from an ad on YouTube and after getting a quote from them determined that they would be less expensive than other moving companies. I loved the idea of having a professional drive our belongings. We lived in a fairly tight cul-de-sac but the driver was able to drop off our trailer no problem. I love that they give you days to load and unload! I love that they only charge you for what you use! Very impressed with u-pack. We were moving from Washington state to Kansas and I had no desire to drive a moving truck and tow a boat behind it that distance. My u-pack trailer showed up on time and had much more room than a large 26 foot u-haul or equivalent. Once picked up, I was able to track my trailer online to see when it would be delivered. One thing you might check is to call them and ask about a guaranteed delivery date. I was able to pay just a little extra to have my delivery guaranteed within 5 business days of pickup. This ended up getting us our trailer before the holiday weekend and giving us three extra days to unpack. I hope to never have to move across the country again but if I did I would absolutely use u-pack again. read more

The company is a first class company when it comes to business. The company took all the worries that something could likely go wrong totally out of the equation. Every time I contacted the company via the well published number on the receipt, i was always able to speak with a real person and not a voice messaging machine. The professional assistant would take the time to look up my shipment and advise me precisely where the goods were at or when the truck will arrive. The term that picked up the truck were veterans and i had an opportunity to talk soldierly for just a brief spell. The gentleman were quite polite and highly professional. Originally my out of state move seemed like it would be a smooth transition... but of course I gave notice to the Seattle apt and had a move out date I needed to stick to. Then the apt complex I was to move into called to inform me that the tenant occupying my apt has had a delay for living out so the apt would not be turned on time. Sooo thankful I had chosen upack and the relo-cube option for my 1 bedroom apartment so I opted to go the terminal to terminal route because the coordinator had looked at my street in downtown Seattle and I let him know there was just too much construction going on outside that they would not be able to bring the relo cubes to me to load. I chose to contract for two relo cubes just in case 1 was not enough. I suggest if you don't have time to thin out your belongings before the move just have 2 relo cubes because they will only charge you for what you do use. The Kent wa terminal people were professional and really cool. They showed me my cubes and said I could make as many loading trips as necessary during business hours in the 3 day window of load-in. I just had to inform them when I was finished and signed contract and any paperwork for the bill of lading. I did utilize tie down straps to keep the load secure while in transport. I also purchased 30 days storage at the destination terminal in Las Vegas to make sure I had time to sign the new lease. I called the terminal and let them know what day I would be coming to unload and they said they would have my relo cubes ready to be pulled when I arrived. Everyone I dealt with on both sides of the move were kind, informative, and helpful. I already have sent my sister who is also having a long distance move without exactly knowing what house she's going to buy because she excepted an offer and the buyers wanted to close in a couple weeks..(not much time to pack up your life) so I sent her the link to upack and there phone number and gave her low-down for. My moving research that they would bring a larger moving trailer to her house so she could get things moved into it at her time and leisure.. she was so happy to hear that and that they have the option for you to choose the terminal it goes to for storage at a reasonable rate till she can inform there where to deliver it to the new house. So her stress of renting a truck to load and unload into a storage facility is now solved.. she called them that day and made her reservations. My mom also had a Co-worker that was moving from Kingman, Az to South Carolina closing on a house she just found and she said the United van lines quote unseen was a $7000 difference from the upack quote. Needless to say she opted for the door to door route through upack - because who doesn't want to save $7000.oo in an already expensive time in life. I saved so much money using your service (I paid through pay pal and they charged me exactly what was quoted. $400 for the 1st cube a discounted rate for the 2nd cube if I needed to use it of $200(so 1/2 price on the 2nd cube.. and worked a deal of $150 per cube for 30 day's of storage which doesn't start accumulating until the cube arrives at the destination terminal ( I did terminal to terminal and not the door to door. ) so grand total from January 31st to when I picked all my stuff up on February 28th was $900 that was the cheapest way to move. I still had till March 5 they had said because February was a short month. I was glad to have a window of leeway but I didn't need it. The terminals are also only open on weekdays for load/unload but they are open later into the evening. I won't be moving anytime soon but I will use them again and recommend them to anyone. There containers are made of metal/steel not wood and tarp so they are more secure during storage. If you have expensive stuff make sure your rental insurance covers your stuff during transit (most do and cover more than just the weight of an item). I just had a move from Seattle to Florida and I'm on about a tight a budget as you can get. It actually got down to whether i was just going to have to leave everything and start over.. or if I could find an alternative. I did a ton of research.. I bounced from one solution to the next.. at one point I found vans I could rent.. looked at Uhaul, budget vans, pods, etc. So I thought the upack price was great for the distance of the move - but I thought the cube would possibly be too small. I checked it out on youtube, and it didnt look like i could fit all my stuff in. I was wrong! I ended up just going with upack and now i am SO glad I did. Everything went like clock work, super automated and smooth. They just called me on the morning of drop off and said where would you like us to leave it.. The guy was super courteous and helpful. I was worried they wouldnt be able to leave the cube where I wanted it, but he had a small bob cat and maneuvered it into an alley for me, then he showed me how to open/close it and he left. It's actually way bigger than it looks on youtube. It took me a day to pack it with some friends, but we managed to tetris nearly all my stuff into 1 pod. It's a pretty tall pod, so I had not considered height on the pod - but you can stack a lot of boxes high. I got my king size bed, then all my flat stuff in along the sides. The pod is loaded with holes for bungees. Once i got flat stuff in along the sides I went with boxes and managed to cram a ton in. Once I was done loading, I called them to tell them to pick it up. No one hasto be there, so they just came the next day and it was gone. Very easy to track on the website. You dont get updates, but it updates real time on the website and you can see it change through the stages, then it said "in transit from City to City" and the next day it changes to the next city. They called me in the morning and said Hi your pod is here, when would you like us to deliver it and asked where to drop it off. So I was actually in Seattle still and I asked if they could drop it off without me there. I emailed them a pic of where to drop it off and it was dropped off that day. Had someone empty the pod, called and told them it was ready and they picked it up the next day. Everything was 100% smooth like clock work. None of my stuff was damaged. Everyone was very polite at the company and it was an extremely affordable move. I paid $1500 to get all of my belongings from Seattle, to the other side of the Country, about as far as you can get. It took about 11 days. No complaints - i am very glad I went with them after shifting back and forth on options and they are 100% legit. If your a person who needs a lot of contact with people throughout your move, and hand holding - this is more of an automated move process. Your doing most of your scheduling, monitoring of progress, and things like that through the web (I prefer that), but I did have to call them a couple times and they always answered and were very polite. This review is for the U PACK Rochester location and the one in Seattle, WA location (Kent to be exact). I am throughly pleased with the whole process of U-PACK. When I was preparing for my cross country move I had contacted several moving companies and all gave me quotes of $2,000-4,000 range, hefty sum if you ask me. I also contacted u-Haul, Penski, Budget Rental, they were also in the mid 2,000s range and that was not even including insurance, gas money, and lodging money I had to shell out of my own pocket! If you are willing to do the self-moving yourself, then U-PACK is the way to go. U-PACK's final price was well below any of the competitors and I could not even be more thrilled. They even give you a "grace period" of so many days to load/unload you cube that stores all your things. And it's not like it's going to sit there, as soon as your cube is loaded and locked, they ship it right away, and give you a tracking number so you know where your cube is at all times. Me and my wife moved from Seattle to Minneapolis and ran into Upack after quoting many other moving companies. We're giving 5 stars because at least in our situation it worked out really well (no delays, no extra fees, affordable, good customer service). I was always checking the status of the shipment and calling in advance to schedule delivery or pick up, they were flexible enough to ship the cube without a final address, since I didn't have it at the moment, once I gave the address (within Minneapolis) there was no extra fee. We used only one relocube and no help to load or unload (ABF does not provide this service, it must be a third party). The only two things I was not aware of when hiring Upack (which to me are not serious things) are: - You have to buy two locks to secure each relocube - They can deliver or pick up the relocube at anytime between 8am 5pm (you don't necessarily have to be there as long as the cube is not blocked by another car or something) read more

From the booking to the pickup at our final destination, they were amazing to work with. My biggest fear was our move to a neighborhood with a strict HOA, where we would have issues with the pickup, but the driver arrived early and told us if we could offload in a couple hours, he would pickup the trailer the same day. We moved to Hawaii from Washington state. U-Pack was a workable solution to save some cost. We hired recommended loaders from Moving Staffers. The pods arrived in Hawaii a week before the expected delivery date and all goods were intact. The reasons we haven't given a 5-star rating is that it would have been much better if their pods were larger. They only have 1 size that can be shipped overseas. Unfortunately, we had to leave some things that wouldn't fit. Also, we tried to order more pods as our estimate left us short. RE: Upack ABF Claim Number 5387300-008, ProNumber 146192589 During a temporary move abroad, our household items were stored in Upack containers. After 20 months, I returned to the USA and our containers were shipped to us. One of two containers showed evidence of long term moisture and mold damage. One reason I chose Upack was their claim that the Relocube containers are weatherproof. A king size latex mattress and antique leather chair were not salvageable. All other items had to be laundered/sanded/reupholstered/cleaned. Upack openly admitted to negligence but offered only $28 to pay the claim. This is the letter that I was sent after trying to claim damages: "Dear Customer: ABF FreightSM is in receipt of your claim for damages in the amount of $1,050.00. After review, it is clear the damage was a result of ABF negligence. However, according to Section 4 of the U-Pack contract, coverage is limited to $0.10 per pound per piece. In light of this information, we will need you to amend your claim to reflect $28.10, or 281 pounds times $0.10 per pound. Once we receive your correspondence, we will be able to further evaluate this file. " Upack calculated a value of $28 for my claim according to their standard coverage, 10 cents per pound. This type of "per pound" coverage is based on a federal interstate tariff law whereby shipping companies must offer basic liability coverage of no more than 60 cents per pound. While Upack's standard coverage is in line with federal laws for shipping, our damage was not incurred during shipping, rather in storage. Applying interstate shipping coverage to items damaged in storage is not appropriate. Also of note, several of Upack's competitors offer the full 60 cents per pound that the law allows. In our case, Upack's product (Relocube) failed to meet their claims. How a company handles these cases is a strong indicator of the company's business ethics and commitment to customer service. By misapplying federally mandated shipping coverage to their storage services, Upack has created the lowest possible liability for themselves. There is no incentive for the company to offer good customer service after the sale or to fix the failing container. According to a contractor's estimate of goods and time, the weatherproofing repair would cost $200-250. This is 8-9X the cost of our $28 claim. Do you think Upack will fix this unit before offering it another individual? Also, requesting that I alter my claim to reflect a value of $28 when my losses are actually valued at $1050 is an insult to injury. I will not devalue my losses to match Upack's inappropriate coverage policy. The moving container business has grown quickly with many competitors in this market space. I recently hired U-Pack for a move from Denver to Seattle. My experience with them has been awful. After a lot of waiting and dissatisfaction, I can safely say I will not be using them again or recommending their services to anyone I know. When my cube was picked up in Denver I was told I could expect a delivery on Monday the 6th. This didn't happen. I found out when I arrived in Seattle that I shouldn't have been given this estimation and my cube was still in a nearby neighboring city and wouldn't be delivered until Wednesday the 8th. This was incredibly frustrating and inconvenient, but customer service compensated me for the mistake and I made arrangements to stay somewhere and wait for a delayed moving day. Today, Wednesday the 8th, I called the warehouse in my area and was told "Oh, looks like the cube is still in Portland. It'll definitely be delivered by tomorrow though." I was shocked, but I tried to stay polite and understanding. When I started to question if there was anything that could possibly be done to have my items delivered earlier, Phil in Mt Vernon cut me off and said "I can't pull a rabbit out of a hat. It's on a truck, it'll be here by tomorrow." Excuse me? YOU can't pull a rabbit out of a hat? Well then neither can I, Phil! I won't just cheerfully book a hotel room, order some take out, and let it go. I've been sitting in Seattle since *Sunday night* while U-Pack is holding all my belongings hostage in Portland. I'm not going to accept your casual answer of "Well, wait yet another day I guess" without questioning it. Moving across the country is not a super flexible process. I'm not in a position to just chuckle and happily wait another day for the contents of my entire house to be delivered, as if this is a totally normal circumstance. I'm not an unreasonable person. I don't expect miracles to happen. But I do expect courtesy and empathy when I speak with a company whose entire business is to move people from Point A to Point B in an allotted time frame. I expect to be offered apologies when that doesn't happen, at the very least, and not a terse and rude reaction to my justified frustration and questions. Do you have a bed to sleep in tonight, Phil? Because I don't. Ta-da! There's your hat trick. So I called customer service, and after some back and forth, my cube was put on an earlier truck, although it still probably won't be delivered today. I was offered some money back and some sincere apologies. (Thank you to Matt for at least trying to problem solve with me, instead of acting like I had an attitude problem for daring to question the almighty shipping schedule.) As it turns out, there was no good reason for the delay. My cube was simply overlooked and not loaded and shipped when it was supposed to be. I understand that mistakes happen, and I appreciate that U-Pack did eventually try to make it right, but the bottom line is that a small refund doesn't change my experience. It doesn't get my stuff delivered on time, it doesn't un-spend the thousands of dollars I gave you instead of a different company, and it doesn't leave me happy that I chose this one. read more

I used this company to move from Seattle to Phoenix. The price was what got me in the door, and there really is not a better deal out there if what you're looking for is ONLY to save money. Unfortunately, their post-moving customer service and damage insurance stinks like a turd in a wedding punch-bowl. Their "insurance" pays - get this - $0.20 per pound for any damage or breakage. Really, this is insulting. Twenty cents? Puh-leeze. My pod arrived before me, and was stored at their Phoenix facility until I called to have it delivered. When it arrived, I opened the doors to the pod to find everything in it in disarray, and tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage/breakage to my possessions. Let's say you packed a $1,000 antique vase so well it could have been tossed on a football field and not broken. It weighed 7 pounds. When you received it at your new location, you found it destroyed beyond repair and with no good reason for it. Their repayment would be $1.40 to reimburse your loss. They ruined an antique Chippendale chest of drawers, broke my vase, nearly all my dishes, two chairs worth over $3000 and a solid bronze Bhudist Ganesha statue was nearly bent in half. It looked as if the pod had been dropped off the truck on a freeway between Seattle and Phoenix, and it was dented on one corner and the top. All in all, you get what you pay for. Discount prices equal discount service. I recommend you take anything valuable in a rental truck, tow your car behind it, and only use a company like this one for unbreakable, or easily replaced possessions that won't fit in your U-Haul or Penske rental truck. read more

We were moving from Suffolk to the Seattle area and I was looking to reduce our moving costs since relo wasn't part of the new job. Full service movers came in about 11k. Doing a rental truck and driving it ourselves was another option but Upack ended up being about $1k more and then we weren't driving a heavy truck across the country, so worth the money. We went over our estimated space and ended up at $5100 for a cross country move. You rent the truck space...no weight limits. It's a super tall truck and they have online estimates for the space you will need. Had I sold that darn treadmill I would have been almost on my estimated length. No big deal in the grand scheme of things. The phone call to the national number was excellent every time. I only waited once over many calls to speak to someone. You reserve a date and can change it anytime or multiple times. If you cancel there is a fee if too close to the move date. So we were in a condo community but the driver arrived on time and parked it so it wasn't an issue. The ramp is 12 feet long and super grippy. You have to pack high to the top to avoid damage AND you need a ton of furniture pads and tie down rope. It's not their fault furniture rubs and gets damaged. Invest a little money in the packing materials. Don't get cheap boxes...they cave in. Get good quality moving boxes. We got a lot for free at Uhaul store nearby that are left after other moves and I bought boxes for what else I needed. Our damage was minimal b/c we put some money into our moving supplies. Once loaded I called for pickup and they were able to squeeze me in the same day. The driver was courteous and helpful. I couldn't get the bulkhead door bottom bar to fit and he brought wood to put across for support. The diver on the other end removed that before drop off so we didn't have to deal with it. He also set up the ramp for me and moved the truck twice to make sure we had clearance walking off toward the house. We have moved a lot in the 15 years. If I could have afforded the full service move I would have. The damage we did incur was due to running out of furniture pads and being at the end of the space...figuring out how to deal with the last minute weird awkward stuff. Only other damage was stupid packing I didn't oversee when it was loaded. Friends are helpful but in this case I should have been watching the upper levels myself. I wouldn't have packed some things the way they did. So be diligent. Keep heavy stuff to the bottom, boxes in the back, and then furniture. Upack is a great alternative for long distance moving and is a fair price. We used a trailer that was dropped off at our place and driven to our new destination and my review is for that service. We had an excellent experience on both ends and I highly recommend this process if you can not afford the full service companies. read more

My girlfriend & I just moved from Massachusetts to Seattle through U-Pack and we were told that it would take 6-8 business days for our cube to arrive in Seattle. After a 12-day road trip across the country, we called for our cube to be dropped off at our new apartment. We were told that the company literally had NO idea where our cube was. This was Friday, and OF COURSE, they're not open on weekends. We called them on Monday and they still didn't know where it was. We called them on Tuesday and they still didn't know where it was. Finally, later that day, a woman from the company called us and told us the cube had been sitting in Dayton, OH since the first day of its shipment. (Just to make things worse, we drove to Dayton the first day of our road trip.) We were told that the cube wouldn't arrive until the next Monday, 21 days after it had been originally picked up, a full 14 business days from when it was supposed to arrive. Not only did we not have furniture in our new apartment for 2 weeks (including our bed--at least our floors are comfortable to sleep on), we didn't have anything to cook with, so we were forced to buy things out of pocket which we had already packed in the cube, and the woman told us that we would not be compensated for those out of pocket expenses. Nor would we be compensated for the extra storage we purchased because we thought the cube would beat us by a whole week, which it clearly did not, and we clearly had no use for. We also lost our moving help because we had friends in the area the day we planned to move in on. We were told that they would not be offerring us complementary moving help. They offered us less than 25% of what we paid for the move, which was well over $2000, not even enough to cover HALF of a month's rent. All in all, I have felt 0% satisfaction from this company even though they boast a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee. If you DO plan on moving with this company, I sincerely hope you choose U-Pack Guaranteed which we were told would have given us a full refund, however, we weren't even offered this feature to begin with. So let's say you're moving out of state, and you want to get your stuff there safely, but you don't want to pay thousands of dollars for professional movers. Let's also say that the idea of driving a heavy, hard-to-handle U-Haul trailer for days on end doesn't excite you. You might just want to try moving your crap with ABF U-Pack instead. ABF is a big commercial freight company, and the u-pack thing is just a small part of their business. They offer a couple of different options for your move: you can either rent Relocubes, or rent space in a trailer. You've probably seen the cubes if you live in a city - they're large wooden crates designed to fit in a parking space, so you don't have to hassle with a big truck. They're good for smaller moves like a studio or one-bedroom without a lot of furniture, but I had more junk than that, so I opted for the partial trailer. With this method, you rent as much space in a freight trailer as you want. The trailer is eight feet wide by nine feet high, and the base rate is six linear feet deep, for $621. Each linear foot after that is an extra $47, if you go over. When you've packed your stuff in, they place a wooden bulkhead and mark how much space you've taken, and that's how they charge you. And that really is the total price - you won't get to the other end to find hundreds of dollars in hidden fees on your bill, with them holding your stuff hostage until you cough up the cash. You can either arrange a door-to-door move (where the trailer comes to your house at both ends of the move), or a terminal-to-terminal (where you take your stuff to the terminal and load up the trailer, then unload the trailer at the destination terminal and take it to your new house). Terminal-to-terminal is substantially cheaper, so that's what I did, even though it's a pain in the ass to move your stuff twice. However, if you don't have access to a friend's truck that you can use for the in-town move, you'll also have to rent a truck for that, so don't forget to factor in those costs too. This is a freight trailer, not an air-ride truck, so you will want to pack your things VERY carefully, especially fragile items. It's worth it to spend $100-200 on boxes and bubble wrap - you'll still be saving money vs. U-Haul or professional movers. Things will shift around in transit, so pack as tightly as you can and use lots of blankets to pad fragile items. When we unloaded the trailer, a lot of boxes had jumped around and some were partially crushed, but there wasn't one single casualty when everything got unpacked, even my glass vases and dishware. However, I've heard that these trucks normally carry loads of ink toner, and there's definitely some black powdery residue inside the truck. Even if you sweep it out and seal your boxes tightly, you'll still need to wash all your dishes once you get to your destination. The ABF people are extremely friendly, courteous, and helpful. They have a generous cancellation policy and are very clear about their fee rates. The website is easy to make reservations on, and once your trailer is packed, you get a tracking number so you can follow your stuff as it moves across the country. My stuff got here much sooner than anticipated (sooner than my apartment was available), and ABF was really nice about letting it sit in their terminal until the day I was able to come pick it up, without an extra fee. This isn't a full-service moving company, and you will end up doing a lot more of the work yourself, but I can't think of another way that I could have moved my stuff this cheaply, with tracking and good customer service. Even with renting a U-Haul to go pick up my stuff in Kent, the total cost of the move was well under $1,000, which is pretty great for an interstate move. For a budget-friendly move that lets you relax and take a road trip or a quick flight to your new home, ABF is an excellent choice. read more

The trucks huge and there is no weight limit. Take advantage if the High ceilings they are higher than any self moving company. think pack vertically. Trick is to load all boxes first as high to the ceiling as you can and then strap it all in. Put furniture in last. They also offer long term storage of your cargo freight container which came out to be cheaper than a self storage unit. I moved from central CA to seattle and had my container in storage until I found a house and closed escrow. It ended up being cheaper than any self moving company like Uhaul or Budget. So thankful this company offers a reliable service for a reasonable price. If it wasn't for ABF we wouldn't have been able to afford to move so far. :) read more

We had a 26 foot trailer brought to us in WA thinking we would only need about 15 feet but we filled it up to 24 feet! We hired some helpers to load as we are in our early 70's and they did the whole thing in about 3 hours. We bought lots of straps and had old blankets to wrap furniture which I would recommend to do. U -pack was there right on time to remove the trailer and they even made it to AZ earlier than expected- all we had to do was call them when we were ready and they brought the trailer to us again to unload. I used a ReloCube from ABF to move from Washington, DC to Seattle in the summer of 2010 and couldn't have been more pleased with my experience. The price for a cross-country move and two months of storage in Seattle was competitive with other comparable services. The office staff was extremely courteous and helpful, answering all my questions. Billing was timely and there were no hidden fees - all very straightforward. Best of all, the ReloCube was delivered punctually both in DC and in Seattle. In DC, the delivery guy actually arrived a few minutes BEFORE my scheduled time window and waited for me at my building. In Seattle, my loaded ReloCube was dropped off right in the middle of my delivery period (morning) and picked up a few hours later, only an hour or so after I called to say I was finished unloading it. All my stuff arrived in good shape, the only damage being some heat stress on a couple of my old Rubbermaid containers - probably from being trucked across the country in June! I will specify that things were well packaged, and we used professionals to load the Cube, who were careful to wedge everything in tightly so it wouldn't shift during transport. This no doubt helped ensure that my furniture and boxed belongings made it to Seattle intact. The cube was just the right size to fit my full-length couch on its end, with lots of space leftover for boxes (at 7'8'' long, my couch fit in a ReloCube with just a few inches of clearance - it would have been too big for a Door-To-Door cube! Don't forget to measure your furniture if you're going the ReloCube/PODS/box route!!). I ended up leaving my double bed in DC, after realizing it wouldn't fit in the ReloCube with my couch, a number of boxes, and some collapsed furniture in there. It would be tough to fit a full-size couch and a bed larger than a twin into one ReloCube, so if you're moving anything more substantial, you might consider ABF's U-Pack freight service (or double up on ReloCubes, but that might cost more). The whole move was so easy and stress-free, I couldn't believe it when all my stuff was sitting in my place in Seattle looking like it never moved. We used UPack to move from Seattle to Denver this summer. We timed our departure with the vacation trip, so we did not care much how long it will take to deliver the cubes. In fact, we paid for several months to hold them while we were shopping for a new house at destination. The process went well from booking, pickup and delivery. By the time we needed the cubes we already had more than half of our stuff in storage so we had a pretty good idea that we need 2 cubes to fit everything. We also got lucky with the 4th of July long weekend, which gave us more time to pack (normally it is 3 business days but weekends/holidays don't count). What can I say. Read the documents on UPack the site about packing, use boxes as much as possible and not plastic tubs, use blankets/covers for furniture and straps to hold things together in the end. We had some boxes fallen around a bit but only because we didn't have enough straps, and the top areas were hard to reach in the end. We also used big flat TV box to hold boxes a bit (strap around it). We had cubes placed on our driveways both in Seattle and Denver. Despite small incline in Seattle and bigger incline in Denver (UPack documents say the surface has to be flat for the cubes, no incline), the drivers were ok putting the cubes there. But don't gamble - we called ahead in both locations to confirm, in Seattle the guy on the phone actually used Google Street view to eyeball the incline. We were assured that the driver will be able to make it work either way. We didn't use permits because we used driveways. At our destination (Lakewood) cubes are not allowed on the street at all - the city does not give permits at all. So we were relieved that the driveway worked and we didn't have to take a chance of being fined by the city. The drivers who placed/picked up the cubes were professional and nice. The only minor damage we had was due to us stupidly putting a child mattress at the very end without any protection before closing the door so that it got some dirt and moisture (water?) since it was pressed in the middle against the doors. Don't expect the cubes to be completely sealed. Or clean. Expect them to travel and be stored in heat, cold, sun, rain and dust. Our boxes were all clean and dry but definitely collected some dust during the 3 months they were in storage (a nice option to have for $105 per cube per month). We would use UPack again if we were willing to get rid of things and pack the rest ourselves again (we learned that we are not too keen on packing). Moving things across the country is a pretty complex process so I would not schedule my life assuming that everything happens on the dot (looks like most of the bad reviews happen when people are burned by having such expectations). One thing I don't understand is why UPack does not handle the permits on behalf of the customers - it would be nice not to worry about it at all (They do print direct phone numbers for pickup and destinations which helps). To sum up, in our experience: * great support over the phone on both ends (WA and CO) * great drivers who drop off and pick up the cubes, flexibility about cube placement despite the strict T&Cs * good communication about delivery dates * useful paperwork - "moving plan", phone numbers of locations at both ends, city permit numbers, tips about packing read more

Everything was perfect. Moved from CA Bay Area to Seattle and everything went very well. All of my dealings with customer service and the guys picking up and dropping off the crates was excellent and easy going. One thing to keep in mind is this is a freight company, not a moving company, so for those complaining about broken items...you suck at packing. We had 3 relo-cubes full of stuff and everything made it without a single thing broken. It also arrived very quickly...our stuff was picked up on Thursday evening and made it to Seattle on Monday. I am sure if I had called ABF on Monday I could have got my crates delivered the same day. My only complaint was the cost of hiring a 2-man crew to help with unloading. U-pack wanted $400+ for 2 people for 2 hours. I was able to find the help I needed from the u-haul website for $130 for 2 people for 2 hours. The guys were great and powered through my stuff! For reference it was Evergreen Moving out of Tacoma...excellent movers. I would definitely use ABF again for a move...it was just a great experience from start to finish. read more

Used U-Pack for move from WA to AZ. Every aspect of the WA crew was great. Once I arrived in AZ, I called to set up delivery of cubes to my residence and was told "don't call us, we will call you when the cubes get in town." Expected a better demeanor and customer service. Once they did call, it was awkward to schedule delivery. Once cubes arrived, I unloaded in less than three hours. Called to have empty cubes picked up and it still took greater than 24 hours for that to happen. Note: the cardboard boxes I purchased from ABF / U-pack are flimsy and of poor quality, many of them became compressed and crushed in transit. The Uhaul boxes I purchased were of much better quality and sturdier. In the end, no damage to any of our belongings! The service I received in AZ was no where near as good as the service in WA. read more

My husband and I made a move from Seattle to Austin. Upack delivered and picked up the relocube in a timely manner. The relocube that was to be delivered in Austin couldn't be because the truck couldn't get into the lot to deliver said cube. This was very frustrating but they helped us get a mover to finish the delivery. I want to make special mention of Charlie at the Austin location. He was amazing! Because of the stress of the move I had a bit of a cry on the phone with him. He was so sweet and understanding. When we dropped off the lock keys at the Austin office he was there and was able to thank him for all his help. He even gave me a hug which is just what I needed. Great company to work with. Clear communication, on time delivery on both ends. They made our move as easy as a move can be. I will note that there are no tiedowns accessible inside the cube. We managed by threading through some very narrow slits in the internal bracing bars. They do make it clear that in many jurisdictions you will need a permit from your parking authority if you have your cube(s) placed in street parking. This can add hundreds of dollars to the cost, so be advised in advance. None of the above takes away from the customer service orientation and professionalism we experienced. This is a very efficient way to move long distance. We were surprised at how much can fit inside of the relocube. The process was exactly as described...simple and easy.
