I chose John Volken Movers to handle the move from the home I recently sold in Des Moines. The organization helps people recover from addictions, then trains and hires them to become productive members of society.... many programs fall short of providing any evidence of lives being changed... this one does, Now about the service. Two men did the work. They arrived on time. They presented well, were professional, courteous and worked hard throughout the entire process. They carefully packed all my belongings taking time not to damage anything. Not only did they move my items with a very short turn around time but I paid extra for them to take some items to the dump for me! I cannot say enough about how impressed I was the whole process from booking the job until it was finished was worth every penny spent.. the price was fair as well... I highly recommend them read more

Had to break my apartment lease to relocate for work. I was dreading moving- it's always such a pain... but this was easily the smoothest move I've ever experienced! The JVA moving crew were meticulous in packing our belongings- it was dumping rain and they wrapped just about everything we owned to ensure it did not get wet; we didn't even have to ask, they just did their thing! And FAST. The load and unload time was extremely impressive, and the men who worked on our move- Tom, Cale, and Tyler, were so respectful and considerate- totally went above and beyond. Not a single item was broken or damaged; which is to be expected with pretty much every move. My wife was also extremely impressed with their work ethic and manners. They are great with dogs too;) Huge thank you to the John Volken Academy Movers who did our 6+ hour drive (one way!) move, and the ones on the backend who got us scheduled within a weeks time, and for an unbeatable price. read more

John Volken Academy Mover - Cale, Tyler, Myself + pup, and crew lead, Tom. Absolute studs! - Movers Near Me - Kent, Washington

Used YELP moving service search and got back a few quotes. JVA was the best quote option for what we needed and communications was clear from start to finish. We had three movers + JVA truck, they were polite, fast, and efficient (also in JVA uniforms). After the move, the JVA admin reached out for any concerns we may have, no concerns and definitely will use JVA in the future. Three movers + JVA truck, ~3hrs, total costs ~$750 (including tips). Largest items were flat screen tv, bed/mattress, desk/chairs. The movers help disassemble/reassemble the bed/frames. The truck was big so the rest of the furnitures was moved as is. No damage to any of our items post move check! read more

Fresh off a successful move with Academy Movers I called them to help move a bulky desk upstairs. The team of three showed up on time and made a first attempt to move the desk up a flight of stairs. It was too big to maneuver well. So they did some problem-solving, had the tools like a drill and took a few pieces off the desk, which made handling it a lot easier. They got it upstairs and put the desk back together as if nothing had happened. I was super impressed that they took time out to consider how to solve the problem. John had the tools and the job was done. They were prepared. They were organized. They were resourceful. I was very happy. I've used John Volken Academy movers twice in a week and I think these guys are fantastic. If you have moving needs or other related work, give these guys a call. They will not let you down! read more

Today we had three young men come help us move all our furniture from our house for a carpet install. I got to say what a pleasant surprise. They had the best work ethic. They were respectful, kind, worked as a team. After having some bad experiences lately (no shows etc), I was very happy with them. I wouldn't hesitate to use their services again, or refer them. They made a very difficult job for us, much easier. read more

I had an excellent experience with my moving team. From Connor who put together the quote (which was very reasonable) to Tristan, Logan, and Clark who loaded the truck, drove 5 1/2 hours, and unloaded the truck. They put everything where I asked for it to go, put together my furniture without a scratch and not a single broken glass or dish. They worked hard and efficiently! Great guys! Thank you again, fellas! I highly recommend this company for your next move! read more

John Volken Academy Movers - SLC team: continues to be the best movers I've ever worked with. Casey's team came in and got things done! Shawnte' was on the stairs (more than one set) assigned the worst job on the crew. He reminded me of boot camp when a private has been given pushups and the private answers back.... "Thank you drill sergeant, may I have another?" His energy never faultered. Luka was assigned to the trailer and nothing moved! Ricky and Juan were awesome. My daughter left her extra cochlear implants and instead of just packing, they brought them to me. They're too precious to just be put in a box. All through the move, they exercised thoughtfulness, discretion, diligence, and speed. For a crappy job, they all had smiles, jokes, and laughter. Very, very much appreciated. The cost is much cheaper than most and the value is priceless. Thank you Casey's team, and best of luck to you! read more

These guys are great. 4 guys with 2 trucks moved us out of storage to our new home. They were professional, friendly, and focused on their work. I would highly recommend them to you. read more

We had moved 300 miles to get here. Now we were moving just 10 miles locally. Our relocation has been tough: getting here, finding and 'fixing' a fixer upper took 16 months. That required a lot of vendors who weren't all that great. We needed help with the big and heavy stuff for this local move. I was so happy to find Academy, not only for their reasonable price. I really liked that Academy was non profit and employs people who have gone through a meaningful life-changing program. This meant, to me, that they were not only doing this - like other companies - for profit (and who were overpriced). I felt like we would be contributing to a higher purpose. The quote was good, they were responsive, communication was clear, and the guys were super nice. They were on time, polite, efficient, and careful. I was happy to meet the gentleman I had actually spoken with on the phone (thank you Clark)! They were super with certain fragile (and heavy) pieces. And, they solved a problem with moving my large glass-top desk (I should have thought of that!), and had tools in their truck. They thoughtfully asked if the larger pieces were placed in just the right spot. In the end, Academy was one of the top 4 best hiring experiences we had in all this time - people who actually cared about doing a good honest job. I am very grateful. read more

The 3 men that moved me were polite, efficient and took care to ensure that my belongings were moved carefully. I will definitely recommend the Volken Academy Movers to anyone I know in need of movers! read more

This was a super easy experience! I got a prompt response with my inquiry, a follow-up call before the move and the guys arrived on time. They were prepared, totally experienced, respectful and efficient. No broken or damaged furniture. Would totally recommend! read more

Very professional team! I was in a situation where I was leaving a very horrible relationship. They knew nothing about it. But I had all my belongings packed and ready to go. The three gentlemen quickly and carefully loaded up the truck. Left no mess behind and nothing was damaged. I live on the 2nd floor in my new place and they effortlessly brought everything in to the proper rooms. read more

My review is for a move in May 2022 but finally catching up. Excellent movers, from the reservation to the move itself. Price was better than anywhere else. They were also the only movers willing to go from King county to Grays Harbor county. 3 movers for an apartment move to a house move. The only issue was that I have 3 tall standing lamps that weren't protected and now lean a bit to the side. read more

4 guys came over and helped us finish packing and loading our truck for our out of state move. They worked really hard and packed the truck well for the long road trip. Everything arrived in tact, except a couple of items with minor understandable damage. Couldn't have successfully moved without the great help! read more

I hired Academy Movers to move an original Peloton- no easy task. They made the move at a totally reasonable price, and did it all two days after my initial outreach. The team that showed up was friendly and helpful, and they worked with me to place the equipment exactly where I needed it. Overall would highly recommend working with them. read more

I highly recommend hiring John Volken Academy Movers. We had sudden water damage and needed to move most of our belongings into a pod in our driveway, Volken Academy responded quickly to my request for a quote and were able to get us scheduled on very short notice. The three men who came to move our belongings were very nice and incredibly efficient - they moved our entire living room, family room, office and guest bedroom furniture seamlessly fitting it into our somewhat small pod in under 2 hours. They made this whole experience much less stressful! Their prices are also some of the best I was quoted. We'll be reaching out to hire them to move all our belongings back in soon! read more

Moved a few items locally. Professional staff, reasonable quote! Was able to schedule service very quickly at a short notice (2 days) - recommend them! read more

The guys were great and did a great job moving our whole house! (Quicker than I expected) Worked hard and I didn't see them take any breaks for the whole move. Took care with wrapping and padding our stuff. Friendly and easy to talk to as well. Will definitely use again for any future moves! read more

Best moving experience EVER! I could rave about this moving company all day. A few things to highlight: 1. Very professional. Scheduling was easy. They were straightforward with price, and accommodating with the requested time/date. They also called the week before, and the day before, to make sure the plan was still set and to see if we had any questions. 2. They were so fast, careful, and efficient!!! I was amazed by their work in moving us out of a 4-story townhouse and into our new home. They look care with all of our items, wrapped everything for protection, and moved things so quickly but carefully as to not bump any walls or damage anything. They also offered to take shoes off with each trip in and out of the house to protect the carpet. They were above and beyond incredible. So strong too!!! 3. Three very nice men helped us move. They were kind, thoughtful, and professional. I cannot say enough good things about our experience, but can't imagine that things could have gone any better than they did. read more

The service was 5 Stars from the initial call, the visit to estimate the cost at our previous home, through the move to another city and then to the final accounting. The men were courteous, patient, helpful and just super nice guys. Even though it ended up being a long day, they stayed to rebuild furniture that needed reconstruction and moved things around until I was satisfied as to where the furniture ended up. I would highly recommend this company. read more

Not only were these guys on time they were a little early. That tells me they mean business in my book. I like their flat hourly rate, easy does it. Everything went smooth and they showed a lot of attention to detail while loading everything up. Nice guys, very professional. Will use them again when I have to move. read more

The crew was very polite and concerned with doing a good job. They worked hard and kept in mind that moving is stressful. They unloaded 3 pods at Uhaul and brought everything to our new 3rd floor condo including lots of little stuff not in boxes. Will be using them again for phase 2. read more

Wow! The best packing experience I've ever had. Three young men came on time to pack the Pod we had parked in our driveway. They were clean cut, polite, and extremely strong! We had them pack our 16' Pod and move the rest of our furniture into the garage for donation pick up. They never even used a hand truck! The packing in our Pod was perfect...utilizing every square inch by packing to the roof of the Pod. I can't recommend them enough. Their rate was $175/hour and well worth it. We'll be using them again when we need to unpack our Pod. read more

Connor made a complicated move quick and easy! Would definitely recommend these movers. Great communication and customer support.

Really helpful and flexible when I had to shift plans around a delivery they were helping me with!

The young men are very friendly and professional. The cost to move one huge L sectional and heavy tv console to new location was very reasonable. I would use their service again and would recommend. read more

Yelp quote response is fast. Movers were careful and patient. Good hourly rate, and flexible. Plan to use them again if needed.

Everything went well. Movers were friendly and conscientious. I plan to use them again.

We had a large move with some every fragile items. They sent us two trucks and four team members to help with our move. I had recently had a medical emergency and so was not fully prepared for the move. They were very kind and stepped in to help finish packing as well They were fast workers and took great care of our things. When we got to the new location they sent out more men, to get us unloaded quickly. Every team member was very kind, and a joy to work with. read more

I requested quotes from a few different companies, before deciding on John Volken. Other companies will offer you 2 movers, and the clock starts from the time they leave the office to the time they get back. Some will even double the rate as they drive from your current apartment to your new one. Not these guys. JVA Movers stood out because first - they gave the same hourly rate but for 3 movers. And they clarified that they don't double rates between locations, and the clock stops once the last box is moved into your new spot. They don't charge for their time to drive home. These guys were fast, careful, clean, and respectful from start to finish. They called the morning of to confirm they were heading over, called when they had arrived, and the whole job was finished within I think 4 hours and cost me less than what they had quoted me for an average job of my size. 10/10 would recommend. Definitely my go to from here on out. read more

They are consistently amazing, we use them at our senior community and recommend them and they always are stars! Tons of compliments from our residents. read more

Simple needs but service was good. The crew called to let us know they were on the way and showed up exactly when scheduled. Our belongings were handled with care, the crew was professional. They even helped us move a few items down some stairs that weren't coming with us in the move. Well worth the price. Quotes from other providers were a lower hourly rate, but for only 2 movers. With 3 movers the job was done extremely quickly and ended up costing less than a cheaper provider would have been. read more

I have used this company a few times and have been very happy with them. They show up on time and do a great job. They were way less also than the other company that quoted twice the price. Definitely my go to mover. :) read more

Positives: They were very fast, friendly, prompt, and cheap. Negatives: They didn't make any effort to protect either residence or any furniture. They frequently bumped furniture into walls and doorframes leaving marks and damage. When asked specifically to take extra care with 2 antiques both pieces still ended up with fresh scratches. When given advice on the best way to move a certain piece they tried doing it their own way first which resulted in a mess and marred surfaces, then did it the suggested way since that's the only way that would work. A small note on professionalism: they were badmouthing previous customers while working. Summary: If you don't value your stuff or the residences then they are a great value and very fast. If you want things to get from A to B in the same condition they started I'd recommend paying more for better service elsewhere or wrapping all your furniture in the heavy blankets movers usually use. read more

So grateful to Matt, Will, Quinn, Chris, and whomever else is behind the scenes at John Volken Academy Movers. Moving from Baltimore to Seattle was stressful enough, when we learned from the City of Kirkland Public Works that we could not have our pods delivered, we were up a creek. Luckily JVAM responded quickly and confidently that they could unpack our household goods from the pods at the shipping terminal and deliver them to our condo. I appreciated their straight-forward billing (per hour, all the packing and tape and stuff included) and they sent three people rather than two. The logistics team was friendly and flexible. The movers, too, were friendly and professional. They jumped through the various hoops our condo HOA set up, and managed our 8-foot couch into our 1-bedroom apartment without complaint. When we inevitably have to get this couch out of this apartment, I'll be calling JVAM again to do the work. Thank you thank you thank you! read more

I contemplated writing this review, but I felt I need to warn others in case something like this happens again. During our move, our leather couch seam had ripped. We didn't make a big deal since the boys worked hard (and accidents happen during a move) and we figured we would resolve it through insurance. We even ordered pizza for the boys and tipped them at the end. When we brought it up to Cameron (manager), he gave us two options- insurance will pay us $170.40 or they will have someone repair the seam. We bought the couch for $3700+tax, so we felt repairing it was the better option. He told us they work with a repairman name Boku. After seeing pics of the damage, Boku advised us that he can re-stitch the couch but it will not be perfect. He also said that if anyone saw the couch, they would not know it's been repaired. Boku came out on scheduled day and went right to work. I was in the same room with him and he did not say anything until he was finished. Imagine my surprise when I walked across the room and saw that he had sloppily glued the seams instead of re-stitching (see pics). He told me this was the only option. When I asked him why he didn't consult with me, he refused to speak to me further and told me to take it up with Cameron since they hired him. I spoke to Cameron and sent him pics of the repair. He was also surprised that the seams had been glued and told me he was going to get back to me. After 9 days, Cameron emailed me saying there was nothing else they can do and we can reach out to the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission for further review. I was misled into thinking our couch was going to be re-stitched and it was not. Had I known they were simply going to glue the seams, I would've refused the repair. Very disappointed at their lack of responsibility for someone they chose to do the repair. Moral of the story- if there is damage, do not have them fix it and go through insurance. read more

The moving team from John Volken Academy just did an incredible job for me. First, I stopped in the furniture store late Friday afternoon to ask about their moving services. They had an opening that Monday. The team was a great bunch of guys that worked their tails off which is a testament to the work the Academy does. In addition to some of my household items, they moved a large hot tub, a pod type massage chair, a health club duty Precor elliptical, 2 safes plus a few other stupid heavy items. They are priced about the same as other movers I got ad cards in the mail from, and you are supporting a great organization that is helping guys rebuild their lives. read more
