Vehicle ran fine (Truck) but everything else was a pain. So I reserved the vehicle online the day before. Then when we go in they tell me there was no reservation. Fine whatever we pay then get things done and return it. The guy checked the vehicle seemed satisfied then said we were good to go. Next day I see I got charged an additional 80$ roughly for the the vehicle I reserved. (So I did reserve it) Then I call asking what this was about I paid the day before. They tell me there was damage to the driver's side mirror. I told them the checked the truck thoroughly the day before no complaints. But suddenly they found something the next day. I told them that seemed slimy. But whatever I'm just a guy trying to get by can't really fight them. I'm just saying be cautious with these people. read more

The owner pulled the truck up said 5/8 tank when I picked it up. I got into and loaded the website with tasks to do like conform mileage, gas etc. (my mistake for not disputing that is was just barely over half). I was thinking that according to him, that was what they consider 5/8. I filled it up exactly to where it was. They then considered that half upon return, of course a different person. So I ended up spending 65$ on gas to drive 42 miles. That means I got 3.5mpg based on what I paid. They had absolutely no concerns telling me that was my problem and I should have disputed it. Will never go there again. Beware, and dispute any hesitancies whatsoever. The assistant manager said, "we do not have any type of honor system here." He then said, "we recommend you bring it back with more than the required amount." Love that they check out a vehicle saying the tank is this full but when they check it back in, not so much! read more

Got a bridge controller installed on my truck. I didn't finish until 7 PM and I dropped it off at 9 AM. When I said I couldn't make it that night since I was busy eating dinner they told me they would just park it out in the street. it's really bad neighborhood in my older truck definitely would've been broken into and stolen. The front-line workers here work very hard and are professional. I hope they make a decent wage, but they probably don't because U-haul is a rundown business, and I am sure the higher-ups make all the money and leave nothing for the hardworking font-line workers. U-haul is certainly not investing money back in to its storage facilities or moving equipment. Everything is exactly the same as it was 30-years ago. Old and worn and inefficient. Storage facilities are basically an aluminum shed. I worry about the vehicles breaking down or the trailers falling apart while driving. U-haul is an awful moving company with awful corporate policies, and they can remain awful because there is so little competition in every city for moving options. I am so tired of them asking me for the phone numbers and addresses of my other contacts. Get bent, U-haul. I reserved a storage unit when I was in San Diego. My online u-haul account showed the unit reserved. It took me 5 days to get from San Diego to Arcata/Eureka because my truck is 20-years-old, and I towed a trailer the entire way. I arrived at this u-haul, I needed to unload my stuff and get to a hotel reservation. After waiting in line, I was told there were no storage units. I was not happy and as respectfully as possible, I let U-haul know they needed to fix that right away and get me a storage unit. I had a trailer I need to drop off at U-haul, and the trailer was full of stuff I needed to put into a storage unit U-haul had told me was reserved. Don't tell me you don't have a storage unit when I am standing at the front desk after 5 days of driving. I was lucky and able to get a storage unit that day but what a nightmare. I would give zero stars if I could. Reserved a truck for 10am, got there a little after 10 and they said my truck wouldn't be there till 11. At 11 I went in and some punk kid on his cell phone said, yeah, it's not here yet. Didn't even look up from his phone. At 11:30, went back in and was told that there was a truck, but it was a one way and it would have to be dropped off in McKinleyville. Was told I could get a 20ft truck instead. I said that wouldn't work as it was too big for us to drive. I said that since my truck was an hour and a half late, couldn't I just use the one way truck and bring it back to this location. I was told no. Girl behind the counter told my girlfriend that if the one way trucks aren't dropped off at a different location then the owner wouldn't get his profit share/ dividend. Waited till almost 12 arguing with the owner Ian. I finally said I would just take the one way truck and where could I drop it off. He said, anywhere but here. Super helpful asshole. read more

I called on Friday morning to see if I could get a tow package installed on my car. I got great service on the phone. She told me how long it would take, helped me figure out exactly what I needed, gave me options, then set up a same day appointment for me. I arrived at the agreed upon time. They installed it in exactly one hour as promised. Good customer service. I felt bad for the people who work there tho. All day barking dogs and a very loud beep every time someone opened their storage unit. Really obnoxious. And I was only there one hour. They also have Thule racks on display. When I approached the office no one was around except two guys working outside, I stepped outside see one guy moving tow trailers around, I know he had to see me, I am the only non U-Haul vehicle in the parking lot. Another guy walks and says oh I thought he was getting you. I said no, got truck and left, using the rental for two hours. Return it. I get a call the next day from Travis who is accusing me of not returning the vehicle I said yes it's in the parking lot when I pulled up your employees were leaving for the day so I dropped the keys in the slot. So many bad reviews on this place. Here's another!! Ordered a hitch and they made the appointment for 4 days later. I confirmed the day before. Show up to my appointment. NO HITCH. They can't do a damn thing. Not even sorry. They reschedule. I call to confirm. Still no parts and they reschedule again. 3rd appointment. I call to confirm parts arrived and they finally had. I say "see you at 3:30" and they had LOST my appointment!!!! I despise U-haul with every fiber in my being. I'm out time, gas, money and am only trying to get this hitch installed so I can travel home to bury my Father. NO ONE CARES!!!!! Worst customer experience of my life. The sheer stupidity is astonishing. The rudeness is appalling. These employees are heartless idiotic assholes and it goes all the way to the top of completely not caring about their customers, their broken promises or their awful reputation in the community. If you want your plans torn to bits, your money shredded and be reduced to rage tears, this is the place for you. If you want to wait on hold for 30+ minutes every single time you call, this is the place. The rental process was easy and the box truck was great. But warning: be sure to check the odometer reading against the mileage listed on the contract to make sure they match before you leave UHaul premises. I rented a box truck for a move from a house on one side of Henderson Center to a house on the other: .5 miles between houses. It is just under 6 miles each way from Uhaul to either house . So 12 miles round trip from UHaul and first house and then back again. Plus 2 miles for two trips between houses for the move. Total 14 miles. BUT, the odomoter showed we had traveled 40 miles! Although I had evidence of both addresses involved in the move, the agent on duty said he was unable to adjust it and I should have taken a picture of the odometer at start. Since they charge $1.19 per mile a discrepancy might make a real difference. read more

Moving is stressful enough and I don't need a moronic attendant to add stress to the mix especially when you are just dropping off a trailer. William was extremely friendly and helpful when we were dropping off a trailer and had problems unloading the car. Even though they were just closing and he couldn't officially check us in the system anymore, he showed us how we could do it ourselves on the app, made sure we were okay, and gave us all the time we needed. It took us 1/2 an hour, but he didn't rush us at all. Great guy, very helpful! read more

The folks that work here are friendly and try to be helpful. That's a plus. They have a lot of moving equipment and seems like a variety of trucks. Don't go there in a hurry. Their computer system seems slow and / or requires a lot of inputs of some sort, so everything takes a lot of time to process. Also, this is a very busy facility. The storage unit I'm renting appears to be mostly water tight, there is a little leaking at the entrance - roll up. So far no mildew problems. I did store all boxes off the ground with 2x4's and put a big tub of Damp Rid in the unit. I'm a bit suspicious of how secure the storage units are. There are cameras though. So, I recommend getting at least the basic insurance and make sure it covers theft. Be ware of billing. The system seems set up to make sure to collect late fees. You may get an email reminder to pay your bill, which is great. When you follow the links on the Uhaul website, the balance will say $0. and if you go into the facility and look it up, it will still say $0. The billing wont show until the ACTUAL day it is due, according to the customer service rep. So I don't know what they think people are supposed to do. They encourage you to set up autopay and will wave late fees if you do. So, they are squeezing you to set up autopay or make the billing confusing resulting in late fees. I suspect it's more of a problem with the Uhaul website, which is horribly designed, than it is the fault of this local Uhaul. Lastly, if you've driven a long way to get to the Uhaul don't expect a bathroom, stop somewhere else first. Despite these warnings, I'm pretty happy with the storage unit. read more

After an hour, a young man appeared to help me, and I was led to a filthy van. I took video of the filth snd I had the young man mark every ding, scratch and dent with a sticker. Terrible, terrible customer service! Husband rented a trailer for today because we are scheduled to bring one of our vehicles to Oregon for repair. We are leaving early morning tomorrow so there's a reason why the reservation for pick up is today between 4-5pm. Husband gets there at about 415pm and that's the only time they call him and say there are no available trailers for him because a customer/s haven't returned trailers as scheduled. The weird thing is that there were two trailers in their lot and when my husband asked them about it, they only supposedly said "we have lots of trailers but we can't give them to you." Really?! No explanation, and apparently no sincere apologies even for a fact they only actually informed him that there was not available trailers when he was already there. Not only did they screw up our timetable/schedule, we also now have to worry about our reservation for lodging in Oregon. Way to go U-haul! read more

Rented some U-boxes to be shipped to Eureka, CA. they were in u-haul's care for two weeks prior to the scheduled arrival in Eureka. we arrived in Eureka to find that the boxes still hadn't left El Cajon's facility. received a text message from the person assigned to "handle" the delay situation. she was very unhelpful and didnt have answers to anything i asked. lots of programmed responses. every person i talked to on the phone was equally unhelpful. no one had a clue what was going on or what caused the delay or why the boxes sat in the warehouse for two weeks when a delivery date had clearly been arranged. none of the different office locations within uhaul talk to each other, so no one can help unless your boxes have been transferred into that office's care, which doesnt help when the boxes are in transit and no office is "in possession" of them. the only reason i give two stars instead of one is because once the boxes got on their way, they arrived in Eureka very quickly. once the boxes arrived in Eureka, i was told they would be ready for pickup as early as 7am the next morning and that was when they scheduled the pick up for in their system. my third party moving service arrived at 8am and were told the boxes would not be ready until 10am. several of the people i talked to on the phone with uhaul just seemed in a hurry to get me off the line, or they were just a polite voice to answer the phone. if every little thing doesnt go as planned, they have no idea how to fix problems. be prepared to to do half the work for them. expect the worst and hope for the best. read more

Cannot recommend this location. The location sent me out in a truck that was cited by the CHP for ineffective turn signals and an inoperative parking brake. The complaint procedure itself is ludicrous. Eureka told me to call corporate. Corporate told me Eureka had to deal with it within 72 hours. The following is correspondence between me and the Eureka manager after I first complained to U-haul corporate. I heard nothing in response. A partial refund was issued but I find that insufficient. We had the truck you rented inspected by our mechanics and they did find that a couple of fuses had blown; after these fuses were replaced both I and my Supervisor have since driven the vehicle and the blinkers and emergency break have worked fine. As I told your desk agent in Eureka not only were there issues with the turn signals, the vent fan shut down under hard acceleration indicating there are more issues with the electrical system in that truck than a couple of blown fuses. I would expect the blown fuses are a symptom of deeper problems. Regarding the parking brake, I cannot see how replacing a couple of fuses fix a parking brake that won't hold. The CHP officer asked me to start the truck, set the brake and then take my foot off the main brake. The truck began rolling forward as if there were no parking brake at all. If that's not the test you used, I suggest you do so. I note that the truck CANNOT legally be returned to service until and unless you have the CHP inspect the brake and certify the vehicle for use. If this happens to someone else and there's an outstanding citation without resolution I would not want to be you when corporate asks you what's going on. Finally, and most importantly, I was sent out in a truck with an inoperative parking brake and a questionable electrical system that resulted in inoperative turn signals in a vehicle with limited rear visibility thus creating a danger for myself and to others on the road. Evidently your position is that as long as no one was killed we should all move along and a refund of $122.70 with only a passive non-apology ("We're sorry to hear of the difficulties you experienced with your rental" is NOT an apology) is quite sufficient to make me happy and do business with U-Haul in the future. I can tell you for sure that I will never do business with U-Haul of Eureka again and I'll be considering what kind of review to leave on Yelp pending your further reply. As far as recommending your facility I cannot do so in good conscience. I also note that you make no mention of the backup of 5 or 6 people during the time I was trying to turn the truck in because your facility is so understaffed. It is unreasonable to expect ONE employee to not only rent the trucks but to attach the hitches or brake lights and whatever else needs doing for the vehicles themselves. I've moved a lot and always go to U-haul for my moving needs, unfortunately this time was bad. Worst U-haul I've ever been to. Staff is incompetent and rude, seems like they just arrived on earth. The rental van we got had a faulty fuel tank and wouldn't take more than $8-$10 at a time on a 1400 mile trip. We received no discount, just dumb-founded stares. After yelping the address to this location and seeing the bad reviews I was a bit wary to come here, as it would be my first time towing a trailer behind my car. I'm more of a foodie and would never think to write a Yelp review about u-haul but I had such a good experience these dudes deserve some credit. Having an impressive talent for procrastination and naïveté on the art of towing, I rolled into the shop with just the hitch. Mark was able to install all the wiring right away, and afterward walked me through what he did in detail and provided some tips on maintenance and care. David helped me with the paperwork, and in addition to having a very pleasant and helpful demeanor he handled all the changes I wanted to make to my reservation seamlessly.
