I rented a small 4x6 storage unit here for only $40/month. It was clean and conveniently located. When I moved out, I received my deposit check of $20 in the mail a few days later. Unfortunately, I lost the check amidst all the holiday cards and have been unable to deposit it into my bank. When I called to ask if they would sent a replacement deposit check (and simply cancel the previously issued check), they told me if would cost them $15 to cancel it and I would have to PAY for it, resulting in a $5 deposit return. I thought to myself, "is this a F@*?ing joke?!?" In the alternative, I can wait 2 months and if the check hasn't cleared on their end, then they can send a replacement check.
Here's my beef: I'm all for mom and pop shops. I want to support local businesses and help the tiny economy of Arcata to thrive but when mom and pop shops can't meet the basic customer service requirements of replacing a lost check, then I would rather give my business to the bigger corps who are willing to go the extra mile for their customers. read more
