I could not have had a better experience. These guys were GREAT! I went in for a trailer hitch. James took my car in right away and I was done in less than 45 minutes. They did not have the cargo carrier I wanted so James pointed me to one that would work on Amazon. Two days later I took the carrier back to be installed, without an appointment, Allan helped me it right away. He demonstrated how to use it and, again, out the door in less than 45 minutes. Call ahead and set up your rental.....to make it easier and quicker.....nobody is enthusiastic about helping you....they offer bad advice when it comes to following through with the picture uploading of the rental. Remember people....ALWAYS....make sure you document the vehicle condition with photos and notes....I was told not to worry about doing any of that....it was suggested that I simple tell someone when I get back that the damage was already there when I picked up....that my taking any photos was unnecessary and that everything would be fine....just go on and go sir....ummm not happening. But if you are just in need of a rental and you are smart enough not to listen to poor advice you will be fine. read more

I rented a 20' truck and a hand truck for a small project on 12/7/24. Excellent service by Valorie. She was friendly, professional and very efficient. I especially appreciated her checking me back in so quickly when I returned the truck, and offering to simply email my receipt to me to save me time. I had a situation where I needed to pick up a car chassis in San Marcos and had rented a truck and trailer from another U Haul. When I arrived at the pickup location, I discovered that the trailer was too narrow and the chassis was unable to be loaded. I was close to the Escondido U Haul so I went there and was able to swap out the trailer. Jamal was patient, professional and genuinely interested in helping me. Just got my propane cylinder refilled at this location. Drove up and the guys immediately took care of me. In and out in under 10 minutes. Price was fair, service was friendly and quick. So much better than a cylinder exchange. read more

I have rented one of their trucks before, but I really frequent U-Haul for their propane service. They almost always have trucks available, and in all types of sizes. So back to the propane...I have four tanks, and it is much more cost effective to get them refilled than to trade in the tanks. Since your tank may be "empty" due to it not releasing any more propane (for a variety of reasons), there is usually some propane still left in the tank. I have come in to fill 4 "empty" tanks and paid for 15-18 gallons of propane. Filling the tanks here saves me 25-40% instead of trading them in. If you come in Saturday morning, they will be busy. Come in during the week and you should have little to no wait, on your way back home in less than 10 minutes. Friendly and courteous staff, you even get to pay outside without having to go into the building. Last time out the staff member pointed out that my tank was going to expire in the next six months. I scheduled an online appointment to get my trailer hitch fixed as the wiring on was acting up, and I couldn't connect anything successfully. What's worse is that I had the hitch installed at a U-Haul location in San Jose, and so clearly something got messed up when it was installed. I took my car in on a whim to this shop in Escondido to have the hitch looked at. At first, the employees noticed a blown fuse, so we replaced that. After looking at it more, they suggested I make an appointment and come in to see their hitch pro, Jason. I scheduled my appointment for the next week and went in. The online scheduling with U-Haul is confusing because it makes it seem like you have to pay when you schedule the appointment, but really you are just reserving your timeslot and they need a CC number for that. Once the appointment was booked, everything was smooth sailing. The manager checked me in and Jason was able to take a look at my car within 10 minutes. It only took him 15 minutes to realize that the wiring was all messed up, and that the U-Haul location in San Jose made everything harder than they needed to. I drive a Subaru Crosstrek, and the wiring for a trailer is really simple to set up, as Jason showed me. Once Jason finished hooking up the new wiring, we tested everything with a real trailer and it worked flawlessly. I paid almost $800 to have a trailer hitch installed in my car. My appointment was for 7:30AM and was supposed to take 2 hours. When I arrived they were already working on someone's car and told me it would be another 45 minutes before they started my vehicle. Wrong! I didn't end up getting out of there until after 1 PM. Would recommend finding another location to have a hitch installed. read more

Went this morning to get 3 propane tanks filled. Was busy lot got waived around other side to park. Used a stall between 2 rentals and immediately had heavily tatted female employee block me in. While completing transaction i asked attendant to have truck moved. The female employee came over to complain insult and berate me for parking there and did park on purpose. Im standing 3 feet away as she continues to insult me. Couldn't even wait til i left. What did i do wrong. The attendant was great and stuck listening to her go on and on insulting me. Not his fault. She should not be in a customer service role. Why should i ever go back now? read more

U-Haul - Self Storage Near Me - Escondido, California

Been here a few times over the past months and am happy with their services. Normally, they have a good selection of trucks available but you do have to call ahead. They are very professional and claim to provide military discounts but they don't. Just to be clear... Trucks are always clean and well maintained. Storage is also available with sizes ranging from 5x5 to 10x15, reasonably priced and no long term contracts required. This facility looks secure, clean and they offer climate controlled rooms. I only wish they had more parking as it is difficult to get in and out of especially during early morning visits. Afternoons are the best as there is more staff and parking. I visit often and plan to do so as long as I'm up in North County. read more

Jose was quick, efficient, and super friendly handling my contract and my check in. He was patient when he reminded me how to online inspect the vehicle. Ryan and Kevin were also just as friendly and professional. They made sure all the windows and windshield we're clean before I got in. They just finished cleaning the windows for me. I had an appointment to get a tow hitch installed here today and had a wonderful experience. The website allows for appointments from 7 am on. When I arrived at 7am I was informed that the installer did not arrive to work until 9. They apologized for the inconvenience, apparently it has been an ongoing issue to have the website reflect. It was no problem for me and I returned at 9. I was told it would be 30 mins minimum to 4 hours maximum. I was pleasantly surprised to only wait an hour. This location has wonderful, helpful, and has friendly staff. The location is clean (show room and bathroom) and stocked with just about anything you might need. 5 stars. read more

Stopped by to get propane. Took about 8 minutes for someone to come to come out but it did look like there were other customers in the store, so maybe they were understaffed. Anyway, the woman who came out was great! Even followed protocol to have me stand behind the yellow line while she filled my tank. This review is for the staff that works the checkout counter. They are so helpful and friendly. They offer great tips on what to buy for your moving needs. They are also super fast and efficient at checkout. I went in the other day and a customer in front of me forgot his wallet in the car... without missing a beat the gentleman behind the counter grabbed my order and off I was before I knew it. The time before that the woman behind the counter advised me to take an inventory of the Kit I was about to buy and it was incomplete! Had she not warned me, I would have been sad. read more

We tried to get a trailer hitch installed here. Did they bother to call and tell us they didn't have the part when we took time off work and drove in at our appointment time? No Did they bother to call and tell us 2 weeks later when they still didn't have the part (which I checked and could be ordered on-line and was in-stock)? Nope When we offered to order the part for them and bring the part with us they said ok, and we made a 3rd appointment. (1 point) Did they bother to inform us they couldn't finish that day because some other problem? No again. We made a 4th appointment. I should mention, that trying to call and get details from this place is also a joke. Every call has a 20-30 minute wait time. We resorted to driving there to ask a question. I had my tow hitch installed at this location, I purchased the warranty as well. The ground cable to attach my lights fell off while I was plugging it. I reached out to that store multiple times with no response. I had to go there personally set an appointment had my appointment change to another day without them letting me know, I went over there,I lost a lot of time. Thinking that they're going to re-wire the car, Justin tells the tech to just snippet. I use my vehicle to tow my Jetski and goes in water. At the end of the process Justin comes to me saying that I only have a month more of warranty. I told him I just got this thing installed a month and a half ago and he argues with me. I paid $500-600 for the whole process, At the beginning a month and a half ago. With warranty. Then Justin threatens me to charge me again. I told him are you the owner he said he's the guy that runs the place. It wasn't a pleasant experience I hope the owner of this place replace to me and contacts me. read more

After sending a long detailed email to corporate, Robert Turner reached out to me and refunded the service fee as well as the gas. This is the type of customer service I expect. I just wish the manager Justin could have cared a little more and actually looked into the issue rather than just saying "Its in the contract." Easy online booking, easy order modification, easy checkout and return. I chose this location because of the huge selection of trucks. I originally ordered online, but came in the day before to make a modification to my order ( changing from a 6 hour rental, to a 24 hour rental). There was no extra charge for taking it out 24 hours Vs 6. They were very accommodating. Return was easy. I was fifteen late but they didn't charge anything extra. I'd use them again. read more

I showed up after 10:00 Jeep was still on ramp, guys where in their van running it, then came out to say it will be another 30 minutes- I notice the Audi opn parked in front of the Jeep was just washed- they wash the their cars/car. It's now 4 hrs. And I'm still waiting. I still don't know about the workmanship of the hitch installation. read more

My experience for a hitch install on a car. Made in line apt for 4.30pm. Went in (a week later) was told my apt needed to me moved as the installer was working on another vehicle and couldn't do mine today. Ok. Rescheduled for 7 am next day. Next day...go in. Another guy ahead of me has same apt time. We're told that installer doesn't come in until 10 am anyway. And my hitch wasn't even in stock yet....!! Why they didn't tell me yesterday I don't know. Asked for a refund. Woman said she didn't know how. Had to wait for manager. Who was supposed to be in but wasn't. I made my case. Woman said "you suck. Good luck with that." And walked off.... So, I'm updating my review from a couple of years ago to my recent phone experience at this location. I was looking for a 7 pin connector kit for my Toyota Tacoma, and called in on a Saturday morning about 10:30am. I selected 2 from the phone tree for customer service assistance...the phone rang at least eight times and then a female voice picked up offering to help me. I told her that I had a part number, and would like a stock check for that item. She apologized and said that she had picked up remotely and wasn't actually at the location...and that I would have to hang up, call again, and get someone in the store. I know this might help some people with online reservations, but as a local customer looking for a part that I had already sourced, I found this process tedious, and not customer oriented. So, I followed her advice and called the store back, selected 2 on the phone tree, and spoke to Justin, who told me "can you hang on a quick second" after I explained my request. The quick second turned out to be about three minutes on hold, which is a long time. Sit for three minutes doing nothing and you've lived my fun on the phone with this location. U-HAUL managers: train your employees to check back in with folks on hold, as that long of a wait breeds anger and contempt for your place of business. The good news and reason for the three star vs two star review I had intended on placing was Justin had the part in stock, and was willing to hold it for me in my office. So, three minute hold crisis (which, really is a first world problem, so not THAT big a deal) averted, and parts for my trailer project acquired. read more

Every time we come here, everyone has been friendly to us. Most recently we rented a U-Haul in AZ and was scheduled to return it to another location. I called this location to see if i can drop it off with them and they did all the legwork to change my reservation and called me back within 5 mins to confirm that it was ok. If I could give them a negative ten i would.. Becuz these guys are unreal. Talk about corporate gangsters.. I got a storage unit in july. They hand me 20 day eviction paperwork August 12. It stipulates my property will be "dsposed of" after those 20 days..instead of the usual lock customer out for non payment then auction off my property. No, this inexplicable loophole allows uhaul to simply discard all of it. Throw away, dispose of it..huh? Wtf? Im treated like a baby and put on restricted access only allowing me 30 min daily. If im there 31 they call police, which they did 3 times.. Then in early August they charge me an extra $100 cleaning fee inhibiting e from getting it all out into another unit elsewhere. Im not rich and unfortunately hafta wait until Septembers monthly deposit to rent elsewhere.. Then they forget how to count to 20 and claim my last day was Aug. 30, and then change it the 31, but law says you begin the count on the day after paperwork is served. August 13th is day 1, which means september 1 is my last or 20th day to clear unit. Which i confirmed with Nefertitti in their corporate office..then I finally find trailer and uhaul decides to add extra stipulations, new rules.. seemingly just for me. WOW. I can only access my unit on this vital last day before they throw my lifes possessions once my trailer arrives. Huh? Wtf? Why? Then they decide to add a last illegal rule which is once i start unloading my unit, I can't stop. It shouldve been by 7pm when they close. They keep pulling shady aka illegal manuevers.. Am i in America right how? Isn't this a corporation that follows and abides by American laws? I work fast n hard and get roughly 75% of it down to trailer... at least 15 full carts.. but it's alot of stuff to load as well as really hot outside, so my trailer driver decides to get some water so we both.go next door to 711. Then I head back 5 minutes later to finally finish clearing unit. Well apparently thats against their new rule.. one made ONLY for me.. because the heavy set mgr Kayla comes up and use this extra rule she just added to deny me access to the last of my unit. Their employee Mary literally slams the door shut on my head, which still hurts. Im emotional now and completely disagree with all this BS. I did alot of work and spent big money and deserve to keep my lifes possessions.... but not since uhaul invoked their new "cant stop unloading rule". Im beyond pissed as its seemingly being allowed.. But now police are being called for the fourth time and im arrested at gunpoint for being loud and emotional. I lose my fathers ashes, all my kids pictures, high school yearbooks, thousands of collectibles and a ton of my prized possessions...and these corporate gangsters got to mske up new rules as we went along just smiled as they ruined my life.
