After reading such rave reviews I was super excited to try two ten jack. However, maybe those reviews had set my expectations too high. We started out with the pork gyoza and spicy tuna crispy rice. The pork gyoza were fine but extremely small and nothing crazy flavor wise. The spicy tuna crispy rice was good and probably the best item we ordered although I've definitely had better other places. For entrees we got the chicken ramen, steak yakitori, and the daily maki roll. The chicken ramen was very bland. About to the point where I didn't want to finish it because it had no flavor. The steak yakitori was a little too crispy so a little burnt tasting. We couldn't finish the daily maki roll which was tuna and cucumber because the fish had an odd flavor. Overall we left still hungry because the flavors just didn't do it for us. However the service was good and our waitress was very nice just honestly shocked at how bad the food was after reading all these crazy reviews. read more

Wow! This place was wonderful. Had great service last night from a female server who advised she had been there there since opening and she knew her stuff! Had some of there flavorful craft cocktails and the popular brussel sprouts and edamame...yum! Daughter had the poke which was fresh and delicious and husband had the pork Ramen which he was thrilled with. I had the pleasure of having the burnt corn veggie Ramen which was the best! This is a story of a restaurant that has really grown on me- from a skeptical face to a five-star place. A ramen place seems like a here-today-gone-tomorrow kind of place. I remember when it was the old food court- it definitely had a 90's mall feel to it. Then I met a friend that seemed to love it for lunch. And for the ramen no less! So I went and fell in love with the brussel sprouts. Crispy, delicious brussel sprouts. And I'm a sucker for a bento box, so I always got that (lunch only, fried chicken one). It has that low lighting that you want, clean/modern feel. We kept going to lunch, and my thoughts started wandering to Two Ten Jack when I wasn't there. We arrived at 4:00 not knowing that the food would not be served till 5:00. After going for coffee elsewhere, we returned at 4:55 and they looked at us like we were a nuisance and made us wait five more minutes in the empty waiting area. I love this place. No it isn't cheap. No in some cases you don't get a lot of food. However the food you get is excellent. They will not give you a takeout box for your ramen or probably anything else since they may think you are trying to squirrel your ramen away. The reason is that ramen doesn't reheat well (they say). I have no idea because each time even though I am probably already full I stuff myself with ramen and have none left. I've tried all 4 ramens and they are all vastly different and very good. My two favorite are the spicy crab which has no broth and the tonkotsu with the pork belly in broth that I think they add cream to. Both are very rich in their own way but oh so good. Others have said it, but the crispy Brussels sprouts are probably the best I have ever had. They flash fry them and then put some kind of amazing sauce on them. You get a small bowl of them but you can share. Mom said it is best to share. The JFC (Japanese Fried Chicken) is very good. Fried chicken thighs with a dipping sauce. At least I think those were chicken thighs. A bit too tender to be white meat. You can't go wrong with any of the pork belly either. If you go with a group get the little plates and share a bit here and there. Again the food isn't cheap and the small plates really mean small plates. Like the JFC is 3 pieces. Oh and lastly though I usually am a beer person I love their cocktails on tap. I have had all 3 and thought they were all great. The place is more upscale inside. It's a good date place. It can be a bit dark in there in the evening. I have been many times and always had great service and came away stuffed and satisfied. read more

My girlfriend walked me down this creepy alley and down some stairs. I was pretty sure this was the night that she was going to murder me. As it turned out, she wasn't lying about that hidden Japanese place. We had the takoyaki(octopus hush puppies) and they were amazing. I had the chicken ramen as my entree and it was alright. Too many onions for my taste. We go back every now and then and I make sure to order my ramen with no onions and it's always fantastic. Love the atmosphere and Brussel Sprouts. A friend seriously doubted she was going to be impressed by some Brussel sprouts, but she ended up being so impressed that she wanted to go back the next day. The service here is always fantastic. We ran into a slight issue the second day, but management went above and beyond what anyone in our group expected. I would give the service from our server and the management 5 stars. Aside from the Brussel sprouts and shishito peppers though (soo delicious!!), everything has been pretty good just not really amazing, and the edamame seems to usually be overcooked. read more

Our waiter Matt was good; knowledgeable and friendly., and the service was generally solid, although some tables received hot towel service to start - we did not. Food was very disappointing. Tried a variety of sashimi, which was just OK but served too warm. The poke seasoning was overly salty. The JFC (Japanese Fried Chicken) was a bit greasy and the flavor was not good. The Sausage stuffed Shishitos were tough and the sausage filling was bland. The best (and only satisfactory) dish of the evening was the garlic noodles with crab butter. read more

I'm always ready to check out a new restaurant (as long as it's not southern/soul food or BBQ) and was excited when the opportunity came to have dinner here. The decor is trendy and modern, I liked it. We were greeted by a nice host and he was very pleasant and went along with my attempts at humor. We were seated right away with no wait (on a Friday at 8:30 PM) which was great. The menu is creative and focused on interesting items, rather than a huge list of everything and anything. We had some yakitori and small plates. I originally wanted to order ramen but the server advised that best practice and for the most positive experience I should wait until I'm ready to eat the ramen before ordering. I wanted the ramen to come with the small plates. This was good advise as I would not have been able to enjoy the ramen as I was stuffed from the small plates. We ordered pork belly, pork gyoza, crispy brussels sprouts, and some other stuff. The brussels sprouts were very good and the best brussels sprouts I have ever eaten. The server was decent, gave good guidance and is still learning the ropes. It appears that this is a chain restaurant as there is one in Nashville as well. I've been looking forward to Two Ten Jack opening for months, and am happy to say it did not disappoint. The cocktails are delicious (had the #1 and #3), the sake, whisky and beer selections are great, and the food is to die for. I've visited Japan and had 'the real deal', and I can say with certainty that Two Ten Jack exceeds all expectations I had for an Izakaya in the South. Food-wise, I tried the Seaweed Salad, Pork Gyoza, Tsukune (chicken meatball yakitori), Pork Belly yakitori, tori paitan shoyu (chicken ramen), and toi paitan shio (pork ramen). We finished dinner off with ice cream filled mochi in Green Tea, Cherry Blossom, and Cookie flavors, which were all delicious. None of the dishes diappointed-- it's great to have something other than sushi, teriyaki, and hibachi in Chattanooga. read more

My previous experiences with TTJ would have definitely elicited a five star review. These last few visits have worried me they are slipping into an apathetic attitude. It's the little things that worry me. Like little bits of food that were not properly wiped off before seating guests. The gathering of dust on the lighting fixtures. The sushi bar that sits unused except for the disheveled pile of flatware in the case. The staff leaning around the bar watching TV while guests awaited drinks and plates. The drinks are still knock your socks off delicious. Especially the No. 3. Still my favorite. The shishito peppers with figs were really tasty, but the figs were overcooked and I prefer the stuffed pork version better. (Seriously, bring back the stuffed shishitos, please!!) They offer this riff on okonomiyaki, called okonomi-age. While the tots were delicious and very crispy, okonomiyaki is a pancake. So this "age" version is just tots with the "yaki" toppings and some overly sweet char sui. IMO, they should really reconsider this dish and offer the pancake instead...with belly slices instead of BBQ. Also on the table were two bento lunches. One karaage and one yakitori. The crispy brussels were burnt in both boxes. Black, bitter, and floating in a thin layer of oil. The rice was overcooked and there was a ton of raw cabbage in the seaweed salad. The yakitori was also burnt. Not just nice and charred...burnt. However the karaage was yummy. The gyoza was just plain steamed gyoza. I'll still return, because so far they're still making fine cocktails and I really adore the agedashi and takoyaki. Unfortunately, they've just stopped becoming the place I want to go everyday. read more

Perfect meal!! We fell in love with this restaurant. We enjoyed our food so much that there was zero interest in stopping to take a pic. We had 2 great bottles of sake, one was was a nigori and the other was Ozeki dry wave. Both were perfect compliments to the food. We really loved Every single plate, cannot pick a winner as they were all delicious. We shared pretty much everything, starting with the Crispy Brussels Sprouts and salmon & scallops nigiri. We moved on to garlic noodles and takoyaki ( octopus Hush Puppies sooooo good my eyes rolled back in my head). Then shitake, avocado, and hotate yakitori. 3 different yakitori- oh my goodness, so flipping good!! We finished with the spicy crab ramen. Incredible. I will say that it was a bit of a repeat of the garlic noodles, but with lots of spicy crab meat. The service was excellent. The ambiance was appropriate and relaxed. The restaurant is stunning in design. We couldn't be happier with our experience and look forward to eating here the next time we are in Chattanooga. read more

He convinced us to give the place a try swearing they had the best vegan ramen on the globe. Well, that is saying a lot. I am frankly not sure. But I do know it was some pretty tasty ramen. We started with a hot house sake and did the Avocado appetizer and the Shitake appetizer. Both we very good. The ramen was brought out and the noodles were very good. Broth was layered in taste and well oily and had enough unami. Not an easy task for a veggie broth but they did it. Ambience is cool. Service was spot on. Cool little spot in the basement of a shopping area in downtown Chattanooga. It looks like an old underground subway with a cool vibe. The drink menu was pretty unique with cocktails on tap and a variety of other cocktails beer and wine. The shishito peppers were delicious I highly recommend them. I had the vegetarian Ramen which was delicious, the broth was full of flavor and the corn tasted fresh and chargrilled. My associate had the miso soup and a few of the skewers. The skewers we're a little overrated with their name being in marketing on the menu. The avocado had a strange sweet mustard sauce on it with a spoon for scooping. And the cherry tomatoes were just that, just cherry tomatoes on a stick, grilled with a wasabi sauce. Overall a cool spot, my Ramen tasted amazing but I wouldn't recommend wasting your money on the skewers. read more

I surely would have rated them much higher (and even though it's silly), I might have even found their food tastier if the service had been better. It was our first visit and we were looking forward to it as it's been well received since it's opening. As usual, the sweetie and I sat at the bar. Came in about 6PM on a Friday, the bar was somewhat lively and the rest of the place was pretty empty-- they obviously hadn't gotten their Friday night rush yet. When the bartender could finally be bothered to wait on us, he came over and said "Drinks?" Um, yeah, dumb@ss, that's why we're sitting here! But really-- No talk of specials, no descriptions of what looked to be draft cocktails, nothing. Wow. The sweetie and I both ended up choosing menu cocktails. The cocktails were delivered and were pretty well done. We've been to a number of cocktail bars and these were comparable in quality. What wasn't comparable was the level of service or lack professionalism of the bartender... I was super annoyed to have to ask for food menus, make multiple requests for water, not get hot/chilled towels, not even get a coaster or beverage napkin under our drinks, have to ask for utensils... You get the point. And the point is that our bartender just wasn't particularly concerned with providing us great service. All of this being said though, we did enjoy the food we ordered. The rolls were good, but next time we're hankering for sushi in town we'll probably head to Sekisui instead. TTJ really shines on their small plates-- we were especially enthusiastic about the gyoza and Brussel sprouts. And if the sweetie says the sprouts were his favorite thing we ate that night, they must be awesome! Additionally, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that all the other people we came into contact with during our visit (from the host to food runner to bar back) were quite pleasant.
