Their steak (medium rare or rare) for their hibachi is fantastic and their salmon and tuna nigiri was on tonight! Wow! The owners and staff are very nice. Don't let the strip mall ambiance fool you. All the best sushi places back home in la are in the sketchiest strip malls. read more

Hokkaido - Salmon and tuna nigiri. Melt in your mouth! - Sushi Bars Near Me - Chattanooga, Tennessee

Food was great! Exactly what I wanted and expected for the price. The service was great and very respectful staff. The restaurant is a little older on the inside, but no biggie. The only thing was I was next to a family with loud children, but that's not in the restaurants control. read more

The rolls and appetizers are generous and fresh made. Good clean atmosphere and great prices.

Located in a strip mall, nestled up next to a Dollar Tree store, they are not hard to find. There are at least three entrances into the parking lot off 58 so you should have no trouble getting there even for the first time. Parking is decent, although not great. The structure of the mall is such that Hokkaido is set back a good bit from the front of the Dollar Tree, so parking in their corner close to the entrance is limited. All parking requires crossing a traffic lane. I didn't notice any handicapped parking spaces nearby, but the lot is paved and there are no steps, so you would just need to be aware of the distance you need to travel. The entrance is decently lit and walking in you will enter a large waiting area with a few booths, the sushi station with two chairs, and a cashier counter. The main seating area is to the right and sectioned off nicely. There may also be another seating area to the left, but it was closed off with a curtain so I could not tell for sure. The kitchen is to the rear left of the waiting area, also covered with a curtain. As is typical for family-run restaurants, there were two children in the waiting area, and they used one of the booths. I used the online ordering from their web site which worked reasonably well but did not tell me how long it would take to prepare my food. I got there about 15 minutes after placing the order. There were two people in front of me, so I waited another five minutes or so before the hostess talked to me even though she saw me walk in. She said my order would be ready in a couple minutes. Total time from order to receipt was about 25 minutes. The food was packaged for travel very well. My trip home was slowed significantly due to an accident, so it was close to 45 minutes after receiving the food before I made it home. The entrees on the bottom had a piece of cardboard on top to provide a stable platform for the soup, salad, rice, etc. at the top. All was stapled into a sturdy paper bag. It was still at least lukewarm. but a quick microwave jolt warmed it up nicely. I do not think this would have been necessary without the travel delay. The hibachi chicken was good but not memorable. The chicken was cooked properly and seasoned nicely. The accompanying vegetables were still slightly crispy and the steamed rice was as expected. The General Tso's chicken was similar. The chicken pieces were cut smaller and the sauce was a bit thicker than typical. I did not think it was spicy at all, which was disappointing. Still, the flavor was good and the broccoli was crisp without being tough. The salad was typical, meaning just iceberg lettuce with a little red cabbage and a three carrot strips. The ginger dressing was good, as was the soup which had two pieces of mushroom included. Overall, I would say the food was as expected. It was certainly fine for the price, and the flavors were enjoyable, but nothing stood out above so many other Asian places. read more

It was very quiet when we walked in and they told us to sit wherever. The prices were very affordable in my opinion. The food was good , I liked the spicy shrimp roll the best. It had a very cozy feel that I liked. It's really close to my house so I'll definitely be back. read more

Hokkaido is amazing. The hibachi is great and the sushi is phenomenal! They are super kind and thorough when making and packing your order and the sushi is BEAUTIFUL!!!! They have a wide variety of options with clear lists of ingredients and don't mind if you ask for changes. I stopped by to get carry out (instead of ordering it for delivery) and they gave me a FREE GIFT???? It's a very nice standing calendar with stick nots and a QR code to order again. Always happy with their food and service. 10/10 highly recommend!!! read more

Hokkaido - This is what the sushi looked like when I opened it at home AFTER it banged around in my car - Sushi Bars Near Me - Chattanooga, Tennessee

The place is decent on the inside. I like the fish aquarium. The owners/employees are not very friendly. They also don't allow any substitutions even with an add-on charge. The food was okay. The salad was your typical Japanese said with ginger dressing. Not much lettuce! The soup that comes with the hibachi is clear soup which is only broth (LOL). We paid for the dumpling soup which was miso soup with dumplings in it. It was decent. I got the steak hibachi. They didn't give very many vegetables. I would have liked more. It seems they are stingy on the cheapest items where they could make it more appetizing. My husband got the chicken hibachi and the chicken was dry. It was pricey for what we received. For that price we can go to one of our nicer restaurants. We will go back and try the bento box at lunch. They don't serve it for dinner. It seems a lot of people like the sushi so we will try that next time as well. It is very close to home so that is convenient. It's worth giving them a try. Health score was also 99. read more

Sushi was very fresh and cold which I found pleasant and Delicious. Very reasonable price, pick 3 lunch is 12.95. Only downside is they do not offer you soup or salad option as most pick 3 I have encountered, only Miso Soup. If you like Miso Soup, this will not affect you. However, I am not a fan which is why I gave 4 stars. read more

I really enjoy the food. It's fresh, tasty, and has an air of authenticity, unlike other Asian restaurants in the area. The service was better than average. It's definitely a good choice! read more

Cost normal for this. Food was typical and nothing extraordinary, menu choices looked like they had a lot of choices. Filled the stomach but nothing I would drive a good distance for...good for local to the area. read more

Quality food and Quality service. They have never gotten my order wrong and the food is always fresh.

We had a wonderful lunch there, sushi is extremely fresh and very tasty. This place is about an hour and 15 minutes from our home in Dayton and is 100% worth the drive. Started with Edamame and Sapporo, then had green with ginger dressing. Salad was very fresh and crisp. For our main course we shared a Crazy Tuna Roll, Double Salmon Roll, Sweet Heart Roll and a Pink Lady Roll. All were excellent of the highest quality. The Pink Lady Roll was the best of the four but only by a very small margin. WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK! :) read more

So we just moved here from a coastal city. I was nervous that we wouldn't find a good sushi place nearby. Hokkaido has been a pleasant gift! The sushi is very well made, very fresh, so tasty. When you first pull up, it's in a little strip mall with a couple nails salons and seedy bar. Don't let that dissuade you, it's totally delicious and everyone is really nice. We haven't dined in yet, because there is still this pandemic bummer happening, but we have done takeout multiple times. What a hidden tasty gem. 10/10 will eat here again. Actually, I'm ordering right now and that reminded me to write this review! read more

We had sushi delivered tonight. The food was excellent! And since it was Christmas, they threw in the cutest kitty cat key chain. We have eaten here before. We have always had a great experience. read more

good food and fast service pretty ambiance to definitely check out. . .

I got the crunchy crab rolls and the chicken hibachi rice. I'm not a fan of sushi, or any seafood for that matter, but I do like crab cakes so I decided to try the crab rolls. I was definitely not let down! It surpassed any expectation I could've made! I was beyond pleased and delighted by the flavorful food and friendly staff :) Will definitely be back! 11/10 Yelp should give you the option to give 6 starts once a month, I would have used it here. read more

Food is amazing - a step up from your usual hole in the wall restaurant & prices were very reasonable. Very clean and cozy. We will definitely be back & often! read more

I got 1 cup of fried rice for 8 bucks. Ordered a large. Can't imagine what a small would be.

Tried this place out with friends. Service was great, however we were the onky ones inside the place. Portions were very large. I had the spicy tuna roll. (Not spicy at all, and they added panko inside it which I thought was nice) will have again just needs more spice. Also tried the Steak and chicken Hibachi. They cooked my steak perfectly to medium. I was impressed with that. Meal came with Clear soup and also small iceberg salad. They provide salad dressing to add yourself and also leave bottle of white sauce on table. Missing ginger sauce and mustard sauce for Hibachi but I forgot to ask as I was so hungry. We all enjoyed it and will be back. read more

Just stayed here tonight for the first time with the wife the food was delicious all the way around from the soup to the salad to the hibachi and I also got sushi which was delicious I got the Hokkaido roll read more

food is amazing and it was quickly made, good to go to if your hungry and wanting quick and delicious takeout for relatively cheap

My wife and I had an early dinner here, the place was very clean and the service was great! My wife's dinner was steak hibachi which was very tasty, we had the pork dumplings for an appetizer, they were good (a little cool, but tasted good), I had the spicy sushi roll combo, the sushi was good but didn't come spicy as I ordered but they did bring me the standard wasabi/ginger add-ons and offered spicy mayo to go with it otherwise they would have been plain. Of course they served the customary salad to both of us and they served my wife the soup also (I had to purchase mine). So, all in all, we will give them another go later on to see if they "polish out the roughness" to get their ratings up. read more

And update we ate hibachi fromHokkaido and enjoyed it the steak was tender and the fried rice is amazing!

Four of us have eaten there twice. The portions are good with some for home . The service is prompt and courteous. The Sushi is good (California and shrimp tried) the Hibachi is a little above average with a better quality steak and lots of it. The restaurant is small and rather oddly designed with seating off to the side, favoring an entrance to a takeout counter. Very clean with a nice smell and the waitress was smiling and attentive. Got fried rice instead of white rice and the bowl was whisked away and replaced as fast as fast can be. The prices are average $10-$18 for lunch plates and $11-$25 for dinner plates. Both meals left us full with no after dinner issues. Not a place to take your prom date, out of town executive or anniversary, but a nice place for family and we will go back. read more

Sushi was very fresh and authentically rolled. They have an excellent sushi lunch special that is fairly priced! Would recommend!!!

An unassuming place in a strip mall -- delivered great service, wonderful food, and Thanksgiving memories to cherish! Large portions, great flavors, and attentive staff will certainly bring us back time and time again. The highlight of our night, however, was a young child of one of the staff flagging us down as we walked out of the restaurant to hand us a gift read more

This was the first time my husband and I ate here and we were NOT displeased at all! It was amazing and food came out really fast. We barely got to finish our salad and soup and they were already bringing our entrees! Atmosphere was quiet and cozy. Will definitely be visiting here again!! read more

Sushi tasted old and the white sauce was unusual. Will not be going back. Not my favorite place

If I could give it 2.5 I would've. Not to say that the hibachi wasn't good. They give you very large portions so it's worth the price. But the sushi was as expected. I realize you're not going to get the freshest, best sushi around in Tennessee, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. The food is comparable to your nearest hibachi. Just go there. read more
