Soo I love this place, The food is great and I like that it's byob. However, my last visit here was not that great. I went with 2 of my friends and they got the crab boil and I got a crab and shrimp boil. When my friends got their food they only had 1 cluster of crab and 2 legs in the side. We all knew that wasn't equal to a pound so we asked the waiter and he let us know that the restaurant Weighs everything frozen (which isn't accurate or honest pricing procedures). Then when we got our bill (separate bills might I add) they charged at 20% percent service fee on top of our totals. No one informed us about this extra charge before we ordered and it was a complete surprise considering that we all tip. When we asked the waiter about the service fee, he told us that it was something the company was doing during the Pandemic and never took off. I wanted to wait til I came back to give this place a fair review. My time I loved everything, but we all know poor customer service can taint the taste of the food. I came back with a friend of mine and we got a great waiter who went as far as to show us the best ways to mix the seasonings. The food came out hot and fresh. They have a setup where they call you by Your name when the order is ready.(ok cool) I paid for my order and was asked My name and I gave. Here's where things turned left... The name on my receipt still had the previous customer name on it. This is such a great restaurant. Me and my friend came on a Thursday as I was sitting in my car out front waiting on her to arrive I noticed a steady flow of folks coming in and out. That's always a good sign. She finally arrived and we were immediately seated. The waitress we had was very nice and helpful since it was my first time there...but not my friend. The waitress was very patient and she explained everything to me. It's BYOB so we requested a cork screws to open our bottle of wine. We FINALLY got one and had some wine. This is my favorite place in Chicago for a seafood boil and if you get Tika as your waitress be prepared for GREAT customer service. I typically go twice a month on Tuesday or Wednesday when they have a special ($20.99 for 1/2lb crab & 1/2lb shrimp). Once you're seated the wait for your food is really quick BUT the wait for a seat is ridiculous. The longest wait has been about 90minutes and you have 10min to claim your reservation after being contacted. Recently, I've used the wait list option on Yelp and when I arrived at the specified time I still had another 30minutes to wait. We put in the notes if they had any eggs (because they're on the website but can't order them online) to call us and we'll give them more cash. I'm usually a short fused impatient person, but I literally did not even have the energy to shout, that's how exhausted I was. 1hr 20mins after I placed my order someone from the kitchen came out to tell me it'll be 15mins. I got my food 2hrs after I paid for it, no compensation, no apologies. You can't place orders over the phone, and they don't deliver, so if you're coming here to order, you have to have a lot of time to waste. The catfish was so good I placed an second order. We were seated in a timely manner and I must say the server "DJ" did an outstanding job ensuring our experience was a memorable one. Two fish is more like Two L's (Losses) in my opinion and I will tell you why. First and foremost this is one of the most over hyped restaurants. Everybody and their great grandma absolutely rave and squawk about Two fish and to be honest I was disappointed. We ordered the fried shrimp and catfish baskets with gumbo. The catfish had a good flavor and tasted fresh but the fries and gumbo were bland. The fries didn't even have salt on them. By the way if you want fries with flavor it costs more. There were way to many un flavorful fries in the box than anything which leads me to the shrimp. There were literally 5 shrimp in the box you could count them and the rest were fries. Now the food here ain't cheap so obviously you would expect more bang for your buck but that just wasn't the case. Lastly the gumbo had about Two shrimp no pun intended I actually counted only two shrimp and the gumbo wasn't bad it just wasn't really good.
