Fisherman's Island we have gone to twice! Great Seafood!

OMGoodness!! We've passed this station thousand of times, never knew this was there! My homemaker told us about it one day and I'm like where is that? "On the lot if the gas station right on the corner". WHAT?!?!? How did we keep missing that?? But do happy she told us because when we went the food was fresh, cooked to perfection! Not an eat in diner, menus on the walls, you can park outside and wait for the order! We've been twice since then and they still have not disappointed!!! Give it a try..... Enjoy!

Food was delicious and service was great. View was amazing. Fisherman's grotto is a great date night

1lb Tilapia dinner.. yeah right $13 plus tax

I am soooo done. First things first, the quoted wait time is a complete lie (quoted 10 minutes, actual wait time 40 minutes). Ok let's move past that, prices have sky rocketed (normal almost everywhere), but the portion sizes have decreased by more than half. Almost $35 for 2 1lb tilapia dinners and just look at the portion size!!! ( I've been a customer over 5 years so I know the difference. Their explanation is that it's the same amount of food in a smaller container. Well I'm here to say that that's a complete lie. To add insult to injury on any given day only 1 half filled butter is included. In closing, less than half the original portion and almost double the price... yeah I'm done.

    Waaaaaaay more than I anticipated!

Holy moly! The amount for the cost ... the quality of the food! Parking is plentiful.... like there's nothing to knock this place for, they even have seating for waiting. This important considering some people may have back issues...just saying! Gotta have this on your list of places to frequent for steamed or baked seafood and raw Fresh seafood. Nom nom nom!!!

Still my favorite spot to get seafood when I'm in Chicago the customer service is great never really had no complaints so far.

Good as hell! I ate 2 already and I haven't opened my platter.

Over the last few years the seafood platter lane exploded in Chicago. I've been to a few places but this by far is my favorite to date!!! Over the last month or so, I think myself and my mate have been here for dinner like 5 times(....ooops!) He's not a big seafood eater and VERY hard to please. I'm not fond of the customer service or the parking lot, however neither of those cons have stopped us for coming back for mooooore. I always get the house seasoning however I have my eyes on lemon pepper or cajun seasoning for the next go around! I always order the king crab legs, I wish they gave you more :( We've tried the salmon that was pretty good, but most people always over cook salmon so whatever.lol. Next on my list of seafood to try is the lobster tail. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because the last time I went it had a suuuuuper faint seafood smell which we all know isn't good if it's strong but we didn't get sick and it wasn't putrid, so we aren't going to stop coming. In addition to the customer service ALWAYS falling flat. Pleeeeease try the peanut butter cookies if they have them. They are so GOT damn good! Enjoy! This spot is worth a try and may become your favorite too :)

The first 2 times I had ordered from here my food was great. My usual order is 2 #14 and #25. There aren't too many places like this on the southside. The cajun and jerk seasonings are great. The last time I came here was on a Sunday after church. I ordered my usual. My shrimp in all but one order were mushy. I don't even know why. It was so disgusting. I live 15 minutes away and didn't want to take the journey back. FYI: They accept LINK but charge $1 to cook your food. NOT a bad deal for a healthier option.

Clean and Friendly place. The young Lady who took my order was very Friendly and took her time with me Asking Questions because it was my first time there. I got the #16 I think it had 1lb of Crab, half lb od Shrimps came with corn ,Broccoli and red potatoes. With Main sauce on the side there's lemon, melted butter, Cocktail sauce( nice & Spicy) love it. Will be back to try the other Sauce they put on the Seafood. Parking was easy from parking lot or street. Enough for 2 to3 people!!

Very nice alternative to your typical fried fish and shrimp. My personal favorite are the shrimp. I have only tried the Cajun seasoning. Hard to deviate from anything that works. I always request extra seasoning. The crab legs are good as well as the talapia. I haven't tried the catfish yet, but I plan to. I didn't love the salmon. It was bland and fishy tasting. I look forward to trying the catfish. Carry out only establishment. Service has been exceptional each time I've visited. I suggest calling ahead.

#20 on the menu 2 lbs snow crab clusters.

Fisherman's Island never disappoints. They satisfy all my seafood cravings from crab legs , shrimp, lobster they have me covered and I get them with my fave house seasoning steamed with my favorite season with corn , potatoes, broccoli. The staff here is pretty friendly here as well .

1/2 pound of shrimp & medium lobster tail with lemon pepper & Cajun seasoning

I enjoyed the food from Fisherman's Island. With no traffic I can make it here in about 20 minutes & the food came out extremely quickly. There's a adjacent parking lot on the north & westside of the restaurant. Let me start off by saying the veggies were terrible. They tasted stale. That's where the negatives end. The food is cooked to perfection. This was the first seafood boil type place that gave me a cocktail sauce & it was fantastic. The medium lobster tail was on the smaller side but accompanied with the potatoes & peel & eat shrimp and corn you'll have plenty of food. This establishment was slightly cheaper than similar places but the food was still good. I opted for Cajun as well as Lemon pepper seasoning which paired well together. I'll definitely return soon & will try the jerk seasoning because I didn't realize it was an option until it was too late. After the closing of the Garfield Park location of Seafood Junction I'm dubbing this my new "seafood boil to go" spot

One of the cons of residing on the south-side of Chicago is the food. Every restaurant consist of fried foods. I'm a HUGE seafood lover never patronized Sea Food Junction etc no particular reason but I decided to try Fisherman's Island one day. THUMBS UP!!! My food was fresh, large portions, and seasoned perfect!

1 lb of snow crab legs with Cajun and house seasonings. Broccoli, corn, potatoes and extra butter

When we went in there isn't anywhere to really sit and when you walk in you wouldn't think greatness come from there but boy was I wrong. We ordered and we were told it would be about 20-30mins. So while we waited to went to a few other stores. The gentleman at the counter was very nice and friendly I was confused on what flavor I should get and I asked could I do 3 flavors and he told me what ever I want. I ordered the 1lb crab and 1/2 lb shrimp with Lemon Pepper, Old Bay and Cajun. When we received the food we checked it and it smelled so good and I didn't know it came with Corn, Potatoes and Broccoli. Once I made it home my food was warm at no fault to them just I had a few errands to run before making it home. Even being warm it was still amazing. My favorite part was the Broccoli. I could have a whole pan of that alone. But EVERYTHING was amazing. Price Point was average for Seafood and you already I want to try something new or different the next time I go because I will be back.

This black owned business has above average standing room in the waiting area, two TVs and an ATM with a good amount of seats/benches. Seems like it might've been an old chinese food joint with a few tables, but they opted for a pure takeout experience (which is unfortunately the trend nowadays.) Since it was my first time I thought I'd try both the fish and chicken combo along with the dirty rice. The total came out to be $24 with the wait being about 15 minutes. The staff overall were nice.      After leaving the place and checking the food. I realized that the combo dinner didn't contain a roll and coleslaw like advertised which was kind of disappointing. It did have the fries though. The requested lemon pepper was there, but they also seasoned the chicken/catfish with garlic powder, salt and parsley which is fine. Everything was fried hard, but not dry which creates the perfect pleasurable crunch. The chicken and fish tasted better than a lot of the restaurants in the area with the fish having a lightness to the breading that's sorely missed. Some of the chicken was weirdly tough though as if it was slightly undercooked.      Speaking of misses we have to talk about the dirty rice. Dirty rice is one of those dishes that seems like it either is absolute perfection or an abomination with no in-between. This unfortunately falls into the latter with it not only looking boring with all brown notes, but the initial taste as well as texture being an off putting creamy rancid trip to flavor hell. After a just a few bites my stomach turned which does not bode well for this dish. I have no idea what went wrong here, but it seems like it may have been sitting out too long. Even the smell was a bit rancid. At least it has a good ratio of ground beef to rice which a lot of places skimp on. They also attempted to add in some vegetables like peppers although they are barely noticeable.       Overall Surf's up is a good spot with friendly staff, decent prices, but some issues with quality. My advice is to make sure the cooking temps are correct and consistent. Definitely make sure if food is sitting idle, that it is kept at the mandatory minimum of 140 degrees farenheit to avoid it going rancid so quickly. Also, double check the orders before sending them out or edit the menu if it is outdated.

I made sure to get a half pound of each of their Crown Jewels- the smoked salmon and the smoked shrimp. I also tacked on a small side of fries with some ketchup and hot sauce. While the shrimp was fairly solid and certainly had the subtle smoky flavor present, it didn't blow me away quite like the salmon did. That was that the best smoked salmon I've ever had in my life, I just couldn't get enough of it. No idea how they possibly pack so much flavor into every single bite, but I left nothing behind. I can still smell the smoky savory flavor, and will certainly be getting the salmon every time I come back. The piping hot fries were delicious as well, especially after plopping down my meal on a bench outside in the 20 degree weather to scarf everything down at once. The quality of the fish is excellent, especially the shrimp. I think I could eat that fried shrimp every day. All the fish was perfectly fried but as much as I like catfish, I might take a pass on it in the future. The fish was beautifully meaty but the coating does nothing for the flavor of the fish and it came across as bland. To me, the smelts could have used a squeeze of lemon but that's just my taste. I'm not as good a judge of smoked fish but once again, the shrimp were outstanding, mostly due to the quality of the shrimp. I'm not as big a fan of the trout partially because I don't care for the variety of trout they use and partially because while the smoke smell is very strong, the smoke flavor isn't quite that strong. The garlic pepper salmon went over well. The flavors were well balanced and the fish was nicely moist. The store is tiny, parking may be challenging, and when they sell out of something for the day, that's that. The staff is helpful and efficient. And remember, CASH ONLY.
