Good seafood, what little selection they have.long ago it seemed like you could get anything in the sea there. I must say what they have is very very good. Two thumbs up. read more

DiCola's Seafood holds such a special place in my heart. Every time I visited Chicago with my dad, we'd make it a point to stop here, and those memories mean so much to me. I still remember how incredibly tasty their fried shrimp was and still is. They offer multiple shrimp sizes to choose from, plus options like catfish, frog legs, and more. Everything is fried fresh to order, and I love that you can pick exactly how much you want. The seafood is flown in daily, and you can truly taste the difference. The jumbo shrimp are my personal favorite , it's so plump, juicy, and perfectly cooked every time. On top of that, the service is always friendly and welcoming. This place is not just delicious, it's nostalgic, comforting, and consistently amazing. read more

Back in the day I used to love this place , love to eat here but the last few times I have visited here the food is not the same anymore although the service is good but the food is not anymore read more

2 years later, still haven't been back!!! Not much more to say. Bad service is hard to forget.

I haven't been there in a while and I would say the size of the shrimp are a nice size. They had a jumbo for basically $30 to me the breading was a little too thick and too salty, but what would make me not go there again? NO!!!! IT'S the owner's attitude When I asked him the price, he said, if you have to ask then you can't afford it. I it was a young lady who told me what the price was and it's not that I can't afford it, but i'm not gonna play a ridiculous price for some shrimp, that's common sense .I'll never return.Don't need the attitude because I asked a question. read more

I will never spend my hard working dollars here EVER AGAIN- Terrible service from one specific person behind the counter then when I told the manager about it , he tells me he's a high school student... anddddd Does he not have any customer service skills or manners ? read more

Low quality over breaded fish and seafood. Possibly previously frozen. When weighing the food prior to cooking the food is always overweighted in the stores favor. Whatever your order is they will increase the weight in favor of the store. They will always ask is that ok? But it will never be below the weight you requested. Surly owner is difficult to deal with and needs to learn about customer service. Store is relatively clean well lit and safe. Everything is overpriced, no sales ever. Everything is cooked or raw grab and go . No ambiance just attiude. read more

Came back again delicious just delicious!!!!! Fresh, fast and reasonably priced. I got a half a pound of shrimp (which was a hefty portion over six shrimp), 1/4 pound of potato salad, their delicious tartar sauce and a huge ginger ale for $20.58! What a steal! At the register they had these cute mini Tabasco sauce! Sooo cute! I had to get it! read more

I grew up in Mt. Greenwood and have loved DiCola's as did my dad. Their fried shrimp is delicious!!!! I don't understand the odd bad reviews. Don't let them deter you as it almost did me. I just finished my fried shrimp and cole slaw and it was as wonderful as it's been for the last 45 years that I've been coming here. Even my boyfriend who does not have the nostalgic ties, really enjoyed. read more

I went to DeCola's for fried shrimp, but the shrimp was so heavily salted it was inedible. I returned the next day and spoke with the owner, who acknowledged there had been an issue with a vendor supplying the battered shrimp. He mentioned it had been a while since any complaints, but agreed to replace my order this time. However, he also stated that if I received another overly salted order, it wouldn't be replaced. I told him I wouldn't return again if that happened. Unfortunately, the replacement shrimp I was given was either undercooked or still not properly handled, and I had to throw it away. I ended up wasting both visits and the food. read more

My top seafood spot in the city. Nobody comes close. Argue with ya mama *shoulder shrug*

A new owner. He was terrible to me in the experience that I had with him! He totally embarrassed me in front of all the other customers by saying out loud that I can't afford his king crab legs. I could definitely afford them but being frugal in his store was something that he took offense to. I had gone to DiCola's since the 80's! But never had I'd been so embarrassed in any store for that matter before! I live in the far West suburbs and traveled a great distance particularly for the king crab legs to make my gumbo and jambalaya for my pops! One good thing in the bad experience that I had was that one of the workers behind the serving counter had seen and heard the owner embarrassing me. So after the owner walked away, that clerk made it his business to come to me and apologize for his boss's actions. read more

Just spoke with a Manager regarding dissatisfaction on the quality of my purchase and was told, "African Americans usually like their fish fried this way!" This is utterly disrespectful and racist especially when you have no idea who you're speaking with. Also, when asked for their name the male supervisor said he was not going to talk politics nor give me his name. Totally unsatisfied customer for over 30 years of patrogr. This business should choose wisely on who they allow to handle business and u satisfaction of their patrons. I will be filing a complaint read more

Nice Friday crowd; take a number please. I walk around to see what seafood I will enjoy today. Whitefish nuggets and jumbo shrimp. I also added potato salad and fries. It didn't take long to fry up everything. On my way home, I ate a shrimp in the car. It was so good. read more

DiCola's Seafood is a very good restaurant to purchase freshly cooked seafood. I visit this business on a regular basis, and they have consistently made my food well. I typically order 2 pounds of Jumbo Shrimp and 2 fries whenever I visit. The batter on the shrimp is not overly breaded, and it is very good. The restaurant is very small, retro, and outdated. There are no tables, and this is not a dine in restaurant. They have a few chairs by the door so that patrons can wait for their fish to be freshly dropped and cooked. The store is rarely crowed, so the wait time is good. There is a large parking lot and not much traffic in the area. The customer service is average. The young, Black man working behind the counter is always pleasant and friendly. DiCola's Seafood sells a variety of food such as fish, Shrimp, frog legs, and sides like fries, coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, rice, potatoes salads, and Pasta dishes. The food is dropped and freshly cooked right in front of you. The food is sold by the pound, and they servings are plentiful. I can honestly say that I would avoid purchasing the side dishes. They do not look fresh in my opinion. One time I ate some fried rice, and I became extremely sick right after. The price of this restaurant is average to high average depending on what you order. Two orders of 1-pound shrimp, fries, and sauce will cost around 45 dollars. You do have to purchase Shrimp and Tartar Sauce on the side. In my opinion, DiCola's shrimp are way better than Lawrence's! read more

On Dec 24 Christmas Eve , I bought 2.5 lbs of raw 12-24 count shrimp, hearty price ,but it was for Christmas Eve dinner . I came home made my Shrimp dish , and each of the 6 guests complained about the iodine taste. I can't tell you how disappointing this was . Luckily we had several other seafood items bought elsewhere that turned out great . This is the second time this has happened. The fried shrimp are great . Warning , don't buy raw seafood there ! read more

Great clam chowder. Got breaded scallops cause they were out of the regular ones. I went pretty late in the day so that's my fault. The kid behind the counter offered to deep fry em, but I wanted to make rice and creamy lemon garlic sauce, so I pan seared at home. The kid kinda thought wouldn't be able to pan sear cause they were breaded. I wasn't sure if I could either but I pulled up a recipe right there. Then started backpedaling, said he wasn't really a chef. It doesn't really matter. read more

For this place to have cut there hours - there is no way the food should be below standard. The potatoes were cold, the smelts tasted fishy, and the food wasn't cooked all the way through. Straight trash. I will never go back here again. read more

I've been coming to this establishment for 30 years, this was my first time back in 10 years... I believe it's new management because they totally fell off, I see why it wasn't crowded like it used to be, seafood with skimpy and not very flavorful, but anyway thanks for the memories read more

Last night was definitely a miss. The shrimp were overcooked and perch was dry. Perhaps the oil was old.. It's really unfortunate when blacks patronize a business it begins to falter. Very sad. Today, I went to Dicolas and purchased some catfish nuggets, calamari and shrimp. I noticed the nuggets had a fishy strong taste. I took it back and and explained the taste. The manager told me that's just how catfish nuggets are and next time he won't give me a refund (of which I didn't ask for) I just thought they would've maybe chose another nugget and just fried it again to make it right. I buy them all the time so I know how they taste. He proceeded to tell me next time get filets because that's not the fish for me. I told him nuggets are my favorite. He says again you can't buy those and no more refunds, as if I had done this before. As much money as I've spent there over the years it was very sad to hear a manager take this behavior over 2 small nuggets. I gone here for the last 30 years and have never experienced the nuggets this way. His tone and behavior was very nasty and rude. I will never go there ever again and I will spread the word! read more

I had stopped going to DiCola's some years ago because the service and quality of food had declined. I went back about 2 weeks ago and had some shrimp that were so good, I went back and got more later that afternoon. As for the cleanliness, there is room for improvement. The floor on the day I went was dirty and sticky, so I would say they need to be mindful of that. Overall, cool Beverly neighborhood spot. Drop in. read more

Love this place. The fish is fresh and cooked to perfection. Plenty of sides and drinks to pick from. Fast service......you're in and out with no long wait times. read more

DiCola's has been at this spot in Beverly on the south side of Chicago for decades and you can quickly see why. If you are a fish lover, you'll want to try this place out. It is much like Lawrence's at Canal and Cermak near downtown Chicago, and Calumet Fisheries on the East side of Chicago at 95th Street on the river. DiCola's is the Beverly version of these neat places. The deal here is fresh fish and seafood. You walk in and there is a line of coolers with a selection of fresh and lightly breaded fish and seafood. You pick out what you want and how much you want, and they either wrap it up for you to take home and cook or they take it over and French fry it right there - your choice. We had our selections fried right there and then we went out in the parking lot and had a feast ... why wait? They fry your selections to a certain time, but you can ask to have it fried lightly if you don't like it too well done. We had a pound of shrimp, a filet of catfish, and some lake perch. The shrimp was 5 star stuff and the hit of the night (crisp on the outside and fresh tasting on the inside and perfectly cleaned throughout). The catfish filet was only 3 star ok (probably perfectly reasonable but much too fishy tasting). The perch was more five star stuff (could not have been fresher). And for all, the breading was nice and light - this is not beer batter stuff with a thick coating, just a thin breading. We also had some French fries and onion rings that are also done to your order ... good stuff. Inside the store they also have a ready-to-go cooler of foods that are already prepared - like salads and the like. We stayed away from this stuff. While we don't usually have a problem with already prepared, we couldn't be sure how long the food had sat in the cooler. But we could see without a doubt how fresh the fish and seafood was, so we'd recommend you stick with that. They also have a lot of sauces and the like that they sell by the bottle. Good stuff, and feel free to try that stuff. But our five stars are for the freshly fried fish and seafood - unbeatable. Service was very nice. There really are no tables to speak of to eat inside - it is pretty much cash and carry, although they do take credit cards. Try this place ... read more

I'm not sure if this place knows what Jambalaya is, there was not a speck of rice in the pint. It was very good what ever it was.

It's been our go to fish market my entire life and it is still the best of the best. Grateful to still have it available for over 50 years.

Idk why I haven't reviewed DiCola's up until but nonetheless...this is one of two establishments which are the only ones I'd vouch for as far as fried shrimp in Chicago are concerned. Very subtle seasoning included in the breading however what's set this place & literally 1 other apart is the fact that the accompanying cocktail sauce is downright divine. Let's be honest, most fried shrimp is a dime a dozen however where most places fail me is their cocktail sauce. You order at a deli like counter & you have the option to have shrimp amongst many other options fried for you. Like most people I have no idea why they charge you for said cocktail sauce but it's literally $1 for a huge amount or like 50 cents for the small. Prices are decent imo & you can even find hard to find frying batter here. read more

Having always been a loyal patron of Lawrence's Fisheries, I was referred to Dicola's by friends. Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, shockingly I had never heard of this place. I almost always call in my orders. Got a tad concerned when advised my order wouldn't be dropped till I arrived. Nothing to worry about. Service was still fast. I enjoyed jumbo shrimp. Fresh, hot and delicious! Lawrence's has them beat on flavor, but Dicola's is absolutely delicious! So fresh! read more

My sister and I used to go Dicola's in the mid 70's. This use to be the best sea food restaurant, on the south side of Chicago. Whenever, we were near Dicolas we had to stop and grab a bite. Needless to say it was Excellent each time. Omg!!! What happened!!!! 40 plus years you go from a 5 star restaurant to a 1 star restaurant. We ordered jumbo shrimp and they were horrible. They were too salty to eat. I called Dicola's immediately to complain. I spoke to the Manager, Rocky, and his response was they don't salt on their food. And maybe he could compensate us, bring the orders back, or the next time we stopped by they could give us a slice of cheesecake. REALLY!!!! My response....NO THANK YOU. I will not be returning, you just lost 2 of your best customers. read more

I have been a customer of Dicolas for decades. I purchased some scallops that were really sandy and had a hard tiny pebbles in them. I called the next day to let the manager know and he told me to "stay away from the scallops next time" In addition, he said " did you buy 3 or 4 ?" I said no j bought 20, I spent almost $40 on scallops. My point is that the lack of customer service is horrible. I didn't want a refund just attempt to fix the issue or even apologize. I will NEVER shop there again. They lost a long time customer . read more

Bland bland bland The potato salad is flavorless mush, the tartar sauce is straight mayo-please show me where the capers or mustard or any semblance of flavor is in it! Even the deviled eggs have NO seasoning or spice or tang or flavor-just a sprinkle of bright red and undetectable paprika. Breading on fish is thick, oily, and again blaaaand. Thank god for hot sauce. This is why I eat before visiting family on the southside! read more

Top notch great seafood everything is always fresh and they will cook it for you apon request very good

Wasn't impressed. Leaves a lot to be desired. The guys working behind the fish counter were pretty rude. The quality of the shrimp is sub par. I would add that the "Jumbo Shrimp" they have looks like 40 count shrimp. Won't be going back. read more

DiCola's Seafood - Shrimp Po' Boy - Seafood Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I called this business, ahead of time to ask if they had fresh scallops, the manager said "Sure, that's what we are famous for." I get there and there is a small platter of scallops that definitely were not fresh. I traveled a long distance so I purchased them anyway, the cashier who I believe was the manger was very rude. He did not greet me or say thank you, or anything in between. He just took my money and turned his back without saying thank you, as if he did me a favor. On top of all of that, the scallops were 23 dollars a pound, previously frozen, (I don't know how many times) and full of sand. I will never patronize this place again. Don't waste your money, go to Mariano's, it's fresher and cheaper, and they are friendlier, and they know how to acknowledge a person, and say "THANK YOU" to a customer. Tip: don't order food from Dicola's...results terrible...0 rating 0 stars!!! fried rainbow trout, fried onion rings and cole slaw...all bad, everything was dry, seasonless and overly breaded, old product, not fresh and way too expensive!!! Dicola's is a big fat NO for me!!! read more

So disappointed in DiCola's. Spoke with the manager and told him my fish was overcooked, I offered to send him a photo because I live too far from his location. He told me to keep the product and return it. . I explained that I do not frequent the area much so saving the product would be futile. He insisted. I do not recommend this place: 1. Bad customer service 2. Food doesn't taste the same. I guess it's convenient (that's the 1 star I gave) read more
