Got some Mexican food in Alsip. It has lots of these restaurants around here. Las Fuentes is one of these and could be the best one. Has a basic atmosphere to it. They have the usual menu items like margaritas and tacos with somewhat authentic flavors and things. Coming here it looked much like a basic Mexican restaurant with all the typical decor and everything. It's got a bar and we sat here. There's also plenty of tables. Has about what to expect as far as what to get. It's about $11 for a mojito. The drinks are kind of pricy but not as much as the food though. It's about $16 for an entree. We got the Tacos Mexicanos. Comes with choice of proteins, including vegetarian if not wanting beef or chicken. These have queso fresco which I left off, broccoli, cauliflower, green peppers, red peppers, and tomatoes. Quite a lot. These are served with pinto beans and rice. Had some pretty filling drinks and food here. It's located on the north side of town on Pulaski. Above average experience overall - the food was great and the service was great too. It was 4 of us and each portion was a good amount of food. We ordered Skirt Steak, Camarones Diablo, Chile Rellenos, and Fried Fish. I would recommend all of those dishes ($200+ overall check). Plus they start you off with chips & salsa... brownie points for that. Definitely. Also ordered a large Watermelon Jalapeño Margarita ($44 feeds 6 small drinks), very tasty and not too bitter nor too sugary. We live pretty far from here so we wanted to give a new place a try and decided this was the spot. I would say the only part that rubbed us the wrong way was the mandatory 20%+ gratuity if you have 4 people or more. Disappointing. I stopped in with my little brother because he said he'd heard good things about it. We wanted to sample the food and have a couple of drinks. It was midday on a Friday, so the restaurant wasn't very crowded. We were greeted by a lovely waitress who also made our drinks. The space is nicely decorated and comfortable. We sat at the bar and enjoyed ourselves. Unfortunately, that's where the good times ended. The chips and salsa wasn't great either. The tacos were very disappointing. I ordered al pastor and carne asada. The steak wasn't seasoned very well, and the pork was much too dry. I had a frozen margarita, which was awful because the waitress/bartender added too much ice. I believe my brother had a mojito, which was actually pretty good. The menu is expansive, and the location is great, but the food definitely left something to be desired. Our church had a fellowship lunch. The servers were so very welcoming and warm. They seated and immediately brought out salsa and chips. The steak burrito was delicious and huge. Absolutely love Las Fuentes! One of my favorite Mexican restaurants! I usually get the quesadillas but I decided to switch it up today. I ordered the chicken chimichangas with a side of rice and beans. You get 3 in an order so I did 2 shredded chicken and 1 grilled chicken. The shredded was good but the grilled was the best! The rice and beans NEVER misses. These are the best refried beans I've had. My boyfriend ordered the Pollo Borracho and he loved it. I tasted some and it was good!! Nice and seasoned. Packed with flavor. The chips and salsa are always fresh and the salsa has a nice kick to it. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. The only thing I wish they had was the green and red sauce to add to the food. Other than that, Las Fuentes is fantastic! I've dined in and carry out and never had an issue with either. We had the best experience in the world. Our waitress, Elizabeth, was friendly and outstanding. Her attention was out of this world. Manuela, the best bartender in the world, makes the absolute best margaritas in the whole world. The only reason we left is because we had to move out of their way because they had to clean. Possibly the best Mexican restaurant on the Southside of Chicago. I lived on the Southside of the city for over 63 years and Mexican cuisine had always been favorite. We were there last Sunday night. It's previous incarnation was home to an Irish Pub (which you can see in the beautiful bar area). The place was fairly crowded but service was quick and very attentive throughout our meal. I had Camarones a La Diablo, one of favorite dishes. This was incredibly flavorful with just the right amount of heat. The sheer volume of shrimps was extraordinary. They were served with salad, rice, beans and strangely with fries swimming in the Diablo sauce. They were amazing. I've never seen this before but I know be back every time I'm on the Southside. My wife had the Chicken Faustus which she nicely shared a taste with me. She could not stop raving about her meal and particularly the seasoning on the refried beans. Just visited this fabulous spot. There were 4 of us so we over ordered to try quite a bit. We were not disappointed. We had the oysters special if you like oysters you'd love these! They are topped with shrimp, octopus, avocado and pico. My chili relleno was so tasty. I am not very high-maintenence and don't bother to leave bad reviews unless something is really terrible. I hate to discourage customers from small businesses but I had a really off-putting experience picking up food here. We picked up an order here the other night after lots of recommendation from my in-laws. We all love El Veneno Mariscos but this option is more affordable and has more variety besides seafood. We got a bone-in fish Nayarit style (Red Snapper I think) that to their credit was really good, and an order of Camerones Diabla. The shrimp had a strong smell like stale cigarettes that really grossed me out. I have ordered this same dish from a ton of different places and it has always been more or less the same flavor profile. (Seems that certain restaurants make this sauce differently) I really feel like this couldn't have been anything but cigarettes. The fish was great and we ate it anyway as it seemed fine and it was around $75 for this order. We aren't the type to call and hassle the employees or bring things back in, but the shrimp was thrown out. My roommate joked that maybe the cook took a smoke break midway through cooking them and went out in his apron or didn't wash his hands.. I hope that's not the case. We have been here come to this restaurant many times as it's very close. The food is very good but the wait staff the past 2 times has ruined this place for me. Our waitress today was the worst waitress I've had in 20 yrs. Literally acted like we were ruining here day just by being there! Never once checked on us, had to ask other waitresses for anything n everything! Brought a basket of chips that was less than half, obviously from another table. After asking twice, waiting 10+ min, another basket of chips came AND THEY CHARGED US $3! 2 people, $100 in food, 1 pitcher, and getting more than 1/2 a basket of chips is gonna cost you $3....? One dish should have had sour cream, "oh sorry, that'll be $3!" CHARGED US FOR FORGETTING THE SOUR CREAM! This waitress, N*talie, just took Las Fuentes off the list of places I'll go to. The bartender added "the black tax" (automatic gratuity) to my bar bill of..... $18. When questioned, the bartender remarked that "They do it to everyone, now." Upon my arrival at the register to further question my tab, I pick up and view a bar bill WITHOUT the automatic 20% gratuity added to it. Arrived at the restaurant and provided the confirmation number to pick up and was told they were not taking online orders. I explained that the order was confirmed and paid for, but they claimed to not have the capability to receive orders and that they would have to call the "corporate office" to retrieve and make the order. Inside was busy as hell, btw, so I guess the food must be good but they're so understaffed that it's chaotic. No one at the register, 3 servers running their asses off. I re-placed the order in person and waited. If I hadn't already paid I wouldn't have. The one star is not for the staff...I empathize with understaffing...but it's definitely for the poor organization of the company and the ordering system. read more

Almost all my life I've always drove past this place and finally checked it out with my good friend. Walking in, I just missed the rush hour. The hostess is nice. The ambiance is kinda of "old looking ". Maybe they will remodel in the future. I've ordered the shrimp ceviche tostada and frozen pina colada margarita and my friend ordered steak taco dinner. We also order strawberry margarita (she still celebrating her 40th birthday). The food was decent. The only downside was our waitress was rude. It seem like she had an attitude when the miscommunication was between her and my friend when the waitress brought out one taco and my friend corrected her and said she ordered 1 steak taco dinner. Also they add I believe a 18%-20% gratuity. However the food is reasonably priced. The place is a mariscos so don't be alarmed when you walk in the place has a seafood smell. Would I come back? My wife went with the crab legs, and I feel terrible that I didn't document her plate with a photo, while my daughter had a seafood pasta with a creamy white sauce and as for me, the combination (shrimp, beef, and pork) fajita with rice and beans. My wife and I had medium margaritas, she went with strawberry and I had mango, both of which were frozen. The drinks had 3 shots of tequila, but I didn't taste the alcohol, however, the waitress was kind enough to add additional shots. Not the best I've had, but the food will more than make up... Now for the dishes... The fajitas were okay, I've had better. But the crab legs may have been the best I've had - EVER!!!!! Terrible experience. First, they were not honoring the specials on the menu. Waitress was new (self reported) and stated she would need to contact the manager. Another waitress comes out, informs us they have pitchers of margaritas but again, not honoring the Monday- Wednesday special. Today is Monday. So, 2nd waitress puts the manager on speaker who again, stated she cannot honor the specials on the menu because they cannot reprint menus. Wild. So, we tell new waitress we will order "to go." Tough place to review. We have been here three times and consistency is a problem. First time our experience was 4-5 stars, second time was 3 stars, and this last time was 2 stars. It is too bad because this place could easily be 4 stars all the time. This Alsip location is one of three that operate under the Las Fuentes banner. We are not sure if this location changed chefs for the food and/or just the tequila in the drinks, but we'd swear that we were not at the same place. The food is pretty good most of the time, but our third visit was nasty. The chips were hard as rocks (unlike the first time), the tamales were warmed and nuked too many times so they did not taste fresh at all (unlike our first two visits), the Pollo Asado (chicken breast) was good but again also inconsistent from visit to visit. The margaritas were different too. The third visit we thought we'd try their special supreme margarita - $27 per half pitcher and $50 for a pitcher. We ordered the 1/2 but were served the full - and the supreme margarita was pretty much undrinkable it was so tart. We sent it back - and to Las Fuentes credit they did not charge us - and ordered a 1/2 pitcher of the regular house margarita. It was better but still off. I think the tequila they used was just a bit too low brow as it tasted better the first two visits. All in all we have had inconsistent meals at Las Fuentes. Loved it the first time and not so much the third time. On one visit we were seated by a partition behind which the waitstaff brings the used plates for cleaning and it was so noisy. You would swear they take the dishes and throw them 10 feet away into a basket - that's how noisy it was. The partition was also pretty dirty. In sum, I think the biggest problem is consistency. The food can be 5 star stuff at times, but you just don't know what you'll get on the day you walk in. The wait staff is 5 stars all the way - personable, friendly, and attentive. I've been wanting to try this place for a while and I happened to check out their website on a Tuesday where they advertised 3 dollar tacos and half priced kids meals (with a paying adult). I assumed they'd only let you get one discount but they argued with me about both and refused to give me either. To get the tacos for 3 dollars they have to be onion and cilantro only and in order to get a half priced kids meal the paying adult has to buy a full dinner. Neither one of these are in their advertisement. Also, the food is grossly overpriced and not that good. 14 dollars for 3 tacos (not a dinner - just the tacos) !! For the prices you would expect a very nice restaurant but the floor was filthy and sticky. Plus we waited for over 20 minutes for a waiter - apparently they didn't notice us (even thought the hostess brought us water and menus). I normally don't like to leave negative reviews but hopefully I can save someone the time and money. I visited Las Fuentes on May 14, 2019 for take out carry out. Upon my entry, I noticed several tables not bussed and or cleaned up. I walked up the hostess desk and advised I wanted carryout and she took my order expediently and she replied it would be about 15-20 minutes. I asked if okay to wait at bar and she replied no problem. When I approached the bar, I noticed several glasses not removed and was unsure of availability to sit. I sat on one end and then had to ask someone to clear the area. The bar person just moved the dirty glasses to another area and then asked if I wanted to place an order. I asked for a margarita. I then noticed the waitress grab a gallon container full of some yellow liquid and pour it in a glass for me. I then immediately stopped her and asked what was that? She replied margarita. I advised her that I no longer wanted that and could I have a sangria. Well, she then replied well it is already prepared as well. She then poured the sangria and placed it in front of me. After I took one sip, it tasted very sour and very sugary. I advised the waitress I did not want it as it did not taste fresh. She just looked at me and replied ok. I received my takeout order within next few minutes and I left. Upon my return home, I opened my food try and tasted the food and the soft taco shells were hard and the meat did not taste fresh. I did not read the reviews upon my visit there and read them after. I will never go there again and do not suggest others to do the same. The place is not clean and the food is not fresh. read more
