Twisted Soul has some of the best fusion food in the Hudson valley! It's right off Raymond Avenue near Vassar college so the vibe is youthful and hip. The decor is nice, they have local artist artwork on display and in the back display some family photos which gives it some personal touch. The restaurant is pretty narrow so you're close to other parties but it's nice. The food is wonderful, I would describe it as South American Asian fusion street food. My personal faves are the slow BBQ pork steam buns which are topped with pickled cucumbers and the BBQ pulled pork Colombian style arepas. And all the different arepas are gluten free which was s a major bonus. I've also had the rice bowls, Mac and cheeses and noodles bowls which are all tasty as well. Fried plantains are just as good as your own abuela's. Lastly they have a nice beverage menu. The have bubble teas, milkshakes, Thai drinks, fresh fruit smoothies, power smoothies, signature drinks, alcoholic drinks and street drinks. My personal favorite is pineapple mango ginger smoothie. Kind of a tight space if you plan on dining in and can get uncomfortably crowded during a rush so don't have your heart set on eating there. My favorite menu item remains to be the fried chicken noodle bowl with the peanut flavored sauce. However the flavor notes are sometimes a hit or miss. Another item I like is the sticky rice. Not too fond of some of the other items especially since I am not a pork eater but I would still come back for the 2 afore mentioned items alone. Also not a place for big portions, so definitely more of a lunch place for those of us more substantial eaters. Yummy drink selections featuring twisted lemonades, teas, bubble teas and smoothies. Food is good but it's time to start coming back from the pandemic already. NYS restaurants are permitted to resume indoor dining at 100% capacity but apparently Twisted Soul didn't get the memo. I have been to a handful of the hottest cupcake bakeries in NYC and Brooklyn but none of them compare to Twisted Souls cupcakes. It takes a little while to get your food so be prepared to be patient. OK, I love this place and I am very happy they chose to move into the Raymond Ave / ARL Business District! The food is a mix of Argentinian and Asian 'food concepts', all of them good. The menu is not hugely extensive, which i think is a good thing - there is just the right amount of diversity for the owners/staff to make excellent food every time. My favs are the corn arepas - cornmeal cakes topped with cheese and a mound of bbq pulled pork...just awesome in my opinion. The empenadas are equally good, I really enjoy the chicken ones doused with their dipping sauce. My son gobbles up the Asian dumplings. They have a very good looking salad menu, but I have not tried one yet so I can't comment. I have eaten their noodle dishes for lunch and those are very tasty as well. The prices are more than reasonable - my wife and I had a great meal there the other evening and the total came to about $20. The decor is upscale without getting in your face - it is fine to eat, relax and chat, you don't feel rushed. Rather I get the impression that the owners/staff are confident in their offering and are only too happy to share the good food with you. Revolving displays of local art adorn the walls. I had the BBQ pulled pork mac-n-cheese which was really great, and some fried plantains, where were not the twice-fried crunchy ones I like but still very good. The food there is unlike what I get anywhere else-- and I'm from NYC, so no shortage of interesting food places there. Twisted Soul has whatever you're in the mood for, whether it's noodles or empanadas or macaroni and cheese. While the place can get quite cramped (it's pretty small) and service can be slow at those crowded times, the food has been consistently great. The restaurant is also great for sweet drinks (bubble tea! One of the only places I know of in the area that serves it) and desserts (creative cupcakes). I got shrimp dumplings (SLOWLY going vegan lol), a Thai iced tea and the tofu noodle boal with udon noodles. My husband and I stopped in here today for dinner while traveling in Poughkeepsie. My first impression was that the restaurant was clean and well staffed, though they don't have a hostess who asks you whether you'd like to sit or not. You have to get a menu, order, and then tell them if you're eating in or dining out. It's a bit strange, but it doesn't really detract from the experience. The menu was pretty expansive and contained a variety of noodle bowls, rice bowls, empanadas, steamed buns, and salads. We noted foods with Caribbean inspired flavors, Chinese inspired flavors, Thai inspired flavors, and Malaysian inspired flavors. Of the available options we ordered: 1. Chicken Adobo Steamed Buns: These were just ok. The buns were soft and fluffy and the chicken was extremely tender, but the sauce was only sparing and there wasn't much of an adobo flavor. The pickles and scallions on top of the chicken were a nice touch but I would have liked to see more adobo sauce on these. 2. Bad-Ass Rice Bowl with Pork Cracklings: This was a great dish. It was a rice bowl served with thai chiles, cashews, dried mango, scallion, and a generous heap of pork cracklings served with what seemed to be a hoisin based sauce. It was delicious, savory, and filling. It is extremely savory, though, so we ended up splitting this between the two of us and found it to be perfectly satisfying. 3. Octopus, chickpea, and potato empanada: This was a daily special so I'm not sure how often it's available. It was delicious, though, and they served it with a tiny bottle of chimichurri sauce on the side. The chimichurri sauce was a bit more watery than we are used to but it was flavorful and complimented the flavors of the empanada quite well. I would definitely recommend getting this if it's available. 4. Yuzu Lemonade with Basil Seeds: This drink is supposed to have a pearl of some sort in it but they were out and asked us if we minded basil seeds instead. We didn't and so we opted to try it and it was delicious. The yuzu lemonade is bright and crisp and the basil seeds add a nice freshness to it. It's also not extremely sweet, which I appreciate, as I'm not a fan of overly sugary drinks. I think this one was just right. Overall we really liked this restaurant. We paid $25 for everything and considering it was enough to feed two people I think that's a great deal. Usually I am wary of places that have too many "types" of food on their menu (as my personal preference is that you focus on one type of food and perfect it so you aren't serving mediocre dishes) but I loved the items we tried from this restaurant and we will definitely be back when we are in the area! read more
