This place restored my faith in Poughkeepsie dining with a kind wonderful, wonderful employee with a child that was well-behaved great product, clean establishment cute location plenty of parking an extensive menu that I haven't seen even in New York City itself. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Not sure about the ice cream but if it's the same quality as their food, wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy. Ordered jerk chicken and rice and beans which resembled a dried up piece of rotten wood. No flavor whatsoever and on top of that was given a side of barbecue sauce. Who does that? Rice was beyond bland, asked for ox tail gravy on top and of course was too much to ask. zero jerk spice on the chicken which was completely overdone to the point of being unedible. Mac and cheese is just as bad. Must've been sitting in 2 inches of oil. DISGUSTING! On top of that service was a joke. Definitely annoyed the guy behind the counter just for ordering their food. Would've been happier paying 18 dollars for ground dirt. Do not waste your time or money! Wish I could give negative stars. read more

We went to this place for the first time. They have both soft serve and hard ice cream. We got hard ice cream. My guy usually orders vanilla but decided to order the pistachio which was full of nuts! I love bubble tea. I ordered the passion fruit tea with passion fruit bursts and mixed jellies. It was ok. Very sweet and I had a hard time getting at the jellies. If I come back, I would say less sweet and no ice. The staff is super nice tho. read more

I was able to sample the Grapenut ice-cream, the SourSop Ice-cream, Dragon Stout, the coconut Pineapple, passion fruit as well as the rum raisin flavor. I ordered my bacon cheeseburger with fries and onion rings from Sugar and OMG that was like the tastiest burger I've had and I can't remember how long. This was the first place I took my daughter for her birthday downtown ice cream safari while camping near Hyde Park. When we walked through the door, all the tables and chairs were put neatly in a corner and the were red tape marks for where to stand six feet apart. We were the only ones in the store and they had plastic barriers, masks, and gloves on. Their variety was very wide and had soft serve, homemade, and flavor burst options. The owners were very kind overall and generous with scoops. My daughter ordered the cookie dough and said it was delicious. We went to another ice cream place (hence the ice cream safari above) afterwards (the frozen caboose) and in comparison were unimpressed with the Rocky Road and Instagraham. The Rocky Road's peanuts in my daughter's scoop were soggy and the Instagraham was flavorless, but we would definitely recommend the Trash Can flavor. My daughter even said that she preferred Su'gar to the other ice cream place, wishing she had just stayed at Su'gar and gotten a bigger serving there. That is significant because my daughter LOVES ice cream and would never turn down a scoop. Overall, Su'gar was a very enjoyable experience. read more

I live over an hour from Poughkeepsie but I'd drive all the way out just for this ice cream parlor. Remarkably tasty ice cream, amazing owners, a cute little parking lot, what's not to love? The perfect place to get an after dinner dessert or just get ice cream whenever you're in the mood. And they also have hot food like burgers!
