honey tabasco buttermilk fried chicken sandwich special
    Kevin L.

I'm not sure if we missed out on something magical when we opted not to endure the wait to dine at the nearby Fiddlestix. We were strapped for time due to an impending deadline on our Storm King reservation. I'd bookmarked Twins Eating House as a backup option, since it was an easy three-minute walk away. I'm so glad that I did! Surprisingly, there were a number of open tables; our duo was promptly seated at a four-top. On our way in, we also observed a substantial outdoor patio with plenty of additional seating, too. The star of our brunch was the honey Tabasco buttermilk fried chicken sandwich -- a special that day. According to our superbly on-top-of-things server, it had just been added to the menu and was selling left and right. I can appreciate why; the dish was executed flawlessly. Crunchy, craggy breading coated a perfectly tender cutlet. The savory bleu cheese sauce offered a cool and creamy counterbalance to the still-steaming chicken. And the pillowy bun held up against all of its contents. I have nothing disappointing to report about the breakfast burrito, either. A generous portion, overflowing with the works -- basically, a southwestern omelette in a fluffy wrap. Having just returned from a business trip to San Francisco, I'll admit that Twins' rendition is a pale comparison to the real deal. However, this one was generously portioned and hot sauce works wonders. We were in and out in under 45 minutes, for sure -- possibly even faster. I'm left feeling a bit befuddled about the relative number of open seats at Twins Eating House compared with Fiddlestix. They're so close to one another (perhaps no more than the equivalent of one or two NYC avenues apart). Is the experience at Fiddlestix so superior that it warrants the wait? I'm skeptical, but very willing to be proven wrong.

    Pastrami Lettuce Tomato
Looks good, but tasted like pepper and not much else.

Went into Twins on a Friday for a late lunch with my brother, and it was busy but winding down. We'd just done Storm King, so were thirsty, and I ordered an iced tea and my brother a diet coke and water. Waitress said she'd bring him the diet coke first and the water later, or else she'd have to charge him for having 2 drinks, which I thought at first was a joke, but no, he got the soda, then the water later. My iced tea also had a weird flavor to it, as though the water/ice used came from a well that needed filtration. I ordered a PLT (Pastrami Lettuce Tomato) on rye, and there were a few a couple of problems with it. First, I'm pretty sure I had the end of the Pastrami, as the sandwich tasted like pepper. It was an overpowering pepper flavor, and I am somebody who likes spicy, peppery, strong flavored foods in general. My brother took a bite, did not like, and came to the same conclusion. There were also chunks of pastrami in there, not just thin slices, which also lends me to believe it was the end bit. It also was not on rye bread which I asked for when the waitress gave me the choice of breads. Thought about returning it but was really tired and hungry by the time it came. Fries were hot and crispy, my brother liked his burger, and the portions were generous, but overall this place was not good.

The food was pretty good and the service was pretty attentive and on point, which is why I'm giving it 2 stars. Unfortunately, I will NEVER ever recommend this place due to the the male owner, Frank, I believe is his name who was exceedingly and unnecessarily RUDE. Honestly, if it wasn't for my lovely partner's insistence I would've walked out happily. Making a customer feel comfortable and relaxed while they have a meal at your restaurant should be of the highest priority, without question. HE single handedly put me in a foul mood and I've no interest of ever setting foot in this place EVER again! FOOD was good but his lack of social etiquette, aggressive tone and attitude left a rather nasty taste in my mouth! Never again! Sorry, Frank, you suck as a manager and I think people should be aware of your unsavory, RUDE behavior!? :(( Shame on YOU! Also you have no business managing a business!

The staff was genuinely welcoming, attentive, and made the entire experience even more enjoyable. Now, the food... absolutely incredible. The fluffy buttermilk pancakes were some of the best I've ever had, and the bacon syrup deserves its own standing ovation. It was rich, sweet, savory, and packed with real pieces of bacon such a unique and unforgettable combination and it had a spice to it as well what paired well with The fried chicken was perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and cooked to perfection. I've been here a few times and will just add that the food isn't amazing and is typically slow to come out (not expecting that much given that the place is small and can get crowded). Today they had no real lunch items except for soup and a few pre-made sandwiches, all egg or breakfast items even after 11. I wouldn't order the avocado toast again; while the egg was made well, the avocado was spread pretty thinly and the toast very thin and ordinary. The chicken and Waffles with Sriracha maple syrup was pretty good and the gruyere, mushroom, spinach and egg sandwich as well. I think everything is fine, including the bakery, but nothing really stands out. $10 minimum for credit cards. They close on Mondays and Tuesdays. They don't have a big lot but do have overflow parking.

The bread is fresh and just enough crunch as you bite into it. The filling is a good ratio of meats and other fixings that you have everything in every bite down to the last one! I love the menu concept of their recommended curated sandwiches and toppings, but space to build your own combination on the card provided. Genius. It's a take out spot, so perfect to order and take on a hike or find a spot outside to take in the views. There is no seating associated with the store front. A few downsides to mention... 1. I believe they opened recently but the hours are a little tough. Friday- Sunday 10-5pm hopefully that changes. 2. There are no prices anywhere on the sandwich menu or on the build your own card so it's a surprise when you get to the register and I wouldn't say that sandwiches are cheap. All in all I would highly recommend if you're in the mood for a good sandwich!

Sometimes after a…read morelong paddle on the Hudson, sometimes while showing friends around Cold Spring, and sometimes simply because it's convenient. Most recently, we grabbed two sandwiches for pickup. My opinion hasn't changed much over those visits. Claude's makes perfectly acceptable sandwiches. They're fresh, they're filling, and if you're already in the village and looking for something quick, you'll probably leave satisfied. I've never had a bad meal here. I've also never had one that made me think, "I can't wait to come back for that." That's really the theme of Claude's for me: convenience over destination. At roughly $45 for two sandwiches, I start expecting something memorable--whether that's exceptional bread, standout ingredients, creative combinations, or flawless execution. Instead, everything lands squarely in the middle. The ingredients are good. The preparation is good. The speed is generally good. It's all...good. Just not great. Living nearby also means I can't help but compare it to other local sandwich shops. If I'm looking for a dependable classic, I'd personally head to B&L Deli. If I want one of the best sandwiches in the Hudson Valley, I'll happily drive one town south to Benny's Brown Bag. Both leave a stronger impression and offer better overall value in my opinion. One thing I'd encourage is embracing customer feedback a little more openly. Every local restaurant receives honest criticism, especially in a town where you have diversity in your customers. That's not necessarily a bad thing--it's often the fastest path to becoming exceptional. Reading through responses to reviews gave me the impression that feedback is sometimes met defensively rather than viewed as an opportunity. As someone who genuinely wants independent businesses in Cold Spring to thrive, I'd rather see that energy directed towards improvement. This isn't a restaurant I'm rooting against--quite the opposite. I'd love to see Claude's become the sandwich shop people plan their trip around instead of the one they choose because it's available. Right now, it fills an important niche in the village, and there's certainly value in that. If you're visiting Cold Spring and everything else is packed, you'll likely enjoy your meal. If you're specifically chasing the best sandwich in the area, I'd suggest venturing just a little farther. Sometimes "good enough" is exactly what you need. I just think Claude's has the potential to be much more than that.
