My wife and I chose to do the chef's special. It is a five course meal. We also went with the wine pairing. In total with tip it was about $300 for both of us. I feel it was a great experience and we would do so again. The server asked if we had any allergies or how adventurous we felt. We said to go for it even though my wife is reserved when trying things. The first meal was swordfish on a skewer with onion jam over greens. It was excellent. Our next course was pork tenderloin with apples. It was cooked beautifully but my wife was hesitant cause it was medium rare. She really enjoyed it after giving it a shot. Next was pasta with prawns in a spicy sauce. It was not spicy but had nice flavor and depth. The prawns were huge but the pasta was clearly home made and excellent. Next was the surprise of the night. Beef cheeks were paired with a tomato based sauce that almost felt like a mole'. It was very good. The final course was dessert and it was a vanilla pralines ice cream with... lard. It was creamy and rich. It was a great finish to the meal. I liked sitting upstairs at the bar when we got there. The main dining room is a little small but we had a nice table for two that was out of the way. The server worked really hard and was very busy. It was restaurant week and I didn't see an empty table. Our meal was long and that was what we wanted. Date nights should be special. Afterward- we checked out the speakeasy in the basement. I went with a group of friends to York Restaurant Week and ate at this restaurant. I would go back but on a less busy night (it was also First Friday). Parking was difficult and ended up using the valet, which despite the sign saying it was $5 it turned out free since we were eating in. We are downstairs the tiny restaurant, at least there was a curtain that was closed most of the time to block the cold air coming in from the front door. It was busy, crowded, and loud this Friday evening. I ordered off the Restaurant Week menu but we had the option to order off the normal menu. I ordered the Truffled Mushrooms, Sea Scallops, and Orange Cheesecake. The mushrooms were amazing served over polenta with a fried egg. My main course was the Scallops which the only difference between them and the ones on the normal menu was the number of Scallops - I had two vs the three. I found the Scallops to be too salty. The menu said the cheesecake was orange but I did not taste any orange flavor. Maybe they ran out but the server didn't say anything. To drink I had one of the signature drinks - Chandler Bing. It was similar to an old fashion and was very good. I ordered a coffee with my dessert but did not receive it. read more

We thought all the food was delicious. Nice atmosphere. We had the crispy pork belly to start, rigatoni bolognese and crab and corn fettuccine. Plus some panna cotta for dessert. Service was good, but after the first pour, I had to pour our wine throughout the meal. With a Wine Spectator Award for their list and program, service should be a bit more professional. However, I believe their entree pricing is very high, especially for York, PA. We are food people and eat in top restaurants often where the pricing is generally lower, and that includes Baltimore, DC, Pittsburgh and Philly. I mean halibut for $49, flat iron (a lower cost cut) for mid-$50s, and squab also for mid-$50s, are all just too pricey. I realize they add a starch/vegetable, but those prices are just too high. We'll probably stick to the pastas when we return. read more

As one can see by my posts my date and I focus on Lancaster PA but also other surroundings in central PA for a weekend dinner. Last Saturday we explored Tutoni's in York as it was close to a Top Gun IMAX experience. When I saw their online menu, I saw the Chefs Table which sounded like fun. Give the chef your dietary requirements and you get five courses at his discretion for $85.00 Sounded like a plan, in central PA $85.00 for two for food is a tad high but reasonable and fun. The atmosphere was pleasant as was the staff. We ordered the Chef's table and off we went. We went through the 5 courses; the food was good. Nothing was exceptional, but the dishes were unique which made for an enjoyable experience. Herein lies the problem when the bill came it was for $170 for the food. Not wanting to make a scene I paid the bill and reached out later to the management via email. I won't bore you with the details but the discrepancy was over the fact that never until I received the bill did anyone state that the cost for the food was $85.00 per person. [I suggested putting pp after the $85 for which there was no magaerial response] At $85.00 it was a reasonable, not exceptional value. At $170 it became the most expensive food price for a meal that I have paid for west of Chester County and East of Pittsburgh. My overall thought is that it is a good upscale restaurant that has priced itself out of the market, especially in York. One can find better selections. read more

Brought my GF here for her birthday and long story short, we won't be back. The food was the issue- So we started with the calamari, it was so salty it was like eating a salt cube. For my entree I ordered the special, which was a bone in steak that I ordered medium rare. It was served well done and chewy to say the least. My girl had the pasta and the meat sauce was good but the noodles were soaked in oil. Waitress noticed my steak and had it remade which was nice on her part. New one came out cooked appropriately but still wasn't all that good. Service was excellent but I felt terrible for our server because of all the extra attention our bad meal required. First time back in a while and all I can say is WOW!! They absolutely killed it with the new winter menu. I ordered the duck breast, and my fiancé got the sweet onion ravioli, both were absolutely to die for. I have celiac disease and the server was super knowledgeable about exactly which dishes contained gluten and which could be made gluten free. I could have almost everything on the menu!! The cocktail menu had so many one of kind drinks that you just don't find in places around here. I could tell that the wine list was put together by someone who was a sommelier or expert of some sort, it was well thought out and coherent. This place reminds me of a fine dining Italian restaurant that you'd find in a major city like Philadelphia or New York. Arguably the best dining experience in York or Harrisburg. read more

Based on other reviews I expected to really like this place but the experience left me disappointed. 1) menu is exciting (looking) but plopped on those large wood boards like a tap house which doesn't equate in my mind to fancy dining. 2) our cocktails were nice but we weren't offered any bread while we waited 3) appetizers were meh. Quail plating and fig jam just not easy to eat. Flavor was forgettable. Celery soup was nice and clean but lacked basic seasoning. 4) fettuccine cacio e Pepe I really liked. I wish the portion size was doubled. 5) dining companion had meatballs which I thought (again) lacked flavor and were largely forgettable. That's not good for an Italian place of this sort. 6) ordered bread it never came. 7) food runner left empty plates when she dropped off more food and said nothing to us. Oh some more food? Thanks LOL. 8) I always judge a restaurant by whether I would go back or recommend. In this case I wouldn't do either. Food and service (and decor) all need to be revisited. We did the drink class (rum) and it was super fun and educational. Jake really knew everything about bar tending and made the class a great time. We will definitely be going back. Afterwards he even hung around to answer some of our other miscellaneous questions about anything from gin to being a sommelier. We also ordered some tapas. They were 3/$15 and we got the Brussel sprouts, confit potatoes, and prosciutto. They all were delicious and I would eat bowls and bowls of the Brussel sprouts! I've been to Tutoni's many times and have always been impressed. The bolgenese is super flavorful and I enjoy it. If you want something so flavorful and unique, please order the potato gnocchi. It has to be one of my favorite dishes I have ever ordered anywhere. They should highly consider adding it to the permanent menu because it is just that good. I lived in the NYC area most of my life, and have been in York, PA for 4.5 years, and I have not had a bad meal here... I have not even had an average meal here. Everything is exceptional. You will not find stereotypical faux "Italian" dishes drowned in red sauce and cheese here. Pasta is homemade, ingredients are fresh, and dishes are created in such a way where you can truly taste the various flavors. Service is friendly and professional. My wife and I are at Tutoni's tonight before the Graham Nash concert. Jake, the manager, and Nick, our server, could not have been more accommodating and professional. I told them that we had been to Italy five times and that this pasta tonight was the exact same as pastas we had eaten in the old country. I would like to congratulate you... For the first time since I've been a yelper, I have finally found the one food that haunts me... The one food that makes me wish I weren't alive... The one food that makes me want to rip my stomach out of my body... The one food that should be banned from existence... It actually pains me to utter it here but I have to... (Insert gulp sound)... Black spaghetti. The name in and of itself should have had me running for the hills but I live on the edge (most of the time), so I dared to be different. But as I lie here in bed at 2:23 AM sick at the mere thought of consuming such a catastrophic fail of a meal, that dare bit me in the ass (or should I say stomach) - hard. When my friends and I asked the source of the "black," I should have ordered more of your amazingly delicious but super inflated $7 carrots... Because octopus ink should never be used in any capacity other than for scaring off its enemies... I wish it had scared me off before ordering (insert whispering voice) "black spaghetti," but it didn't... And I am paying for it with a vengeance. When I got home, I tried to mask the taste with anything I could find in my fridge - mustard, olives, peanut butter, even my $160 whiskey - but nothing worked... Alas, which is why I'm writing you this break-up letter right now. Do your patrons a favor and torch the ink-blasted noodles with gasoline and never look back. Although your black spaghetti has me wrapped up in its tentacle-death grip right now, I do have a few nice things to say about my experience at your restaurant (3 to be exact)... hence the 3 stars... 1) I totally dig your farm to table menu. But, out of curiosity, which local farm raises octopus? The farmer in the "well" perhaps? 2) I love restaurants that flaunt the very animals they slaughter on their walls. I became close friends with the sheep and goat watching my every move tonight. 3) I give your waiter, Zack, props for being a gracious and accommodating fellow. He is definitely a keeper unlike the unmentionable "Black Death..." An honorable mention goes to the frame adorning your toilet in the ladies' room. My husband and I recently had dinner at Tutoni's. After being seated, we waited 20 minutes before anyone even offered us water, let alone a drink, and that was after I flagged down the waitress. She said, "Sorry, I didn't see you there." What were we, invisible? After an hour and a half, our meals finally arrived. My husband's pasta was fine, but my salmon was both overcooked and overpriced at $45. We were very disappointed with the service and won't be returning. read more

Just don't. Tutoni's is normally a very good restaurant, but it was so clear last night that they did not want to do a good job for St. Valentine's Day. Meager portions all around and some really forgettable dishes. Two tiny oysters masqueraded as an appetizer, the Walu dish was fish imitating cold mashed potatoes next to an over salted risotto. Granted, the black and white spaghetti was memorable in a good way, but they followed that up with what had to be the two most pale and dry dessert options in York. So not what you would look for on Valentine's Day. But most heinously unforgivable was the wine pairing. We had decided to upgrade to the wine pairing but it was anything but an upgrade. Why would you charge $35 for 3 overly small pours of wine? Not even served in proper wine glasses. Major fail. Point being, if you don't want to do Valentine's Day service, just don't. read more

This place is amazing! The service was wonderful, the food was ridiculously delicious and the atmosphere was fabulous! We sat in the bar at one of the high tops and Nick (the bartender for the evening) took care of us. He made our night incredibly enjoyable with his personality, his spot on recommendations, his enthusiasm, and his cocktails and mocktails :) He's an asset to the restaurant for sure. We had the burrata, sweet onion ravioli, one of the steak specials for the evening and a few of the small desserts...it all was soooooo yummy! My husband and I had a delicious meal at Tutoni's last night. From start to finish it was excellent. Hostess, our waitress, everyone so friendly, personable and helpful. We started with the cheese board, then field greens, and finally meatballs and pasta (hubby) and Gnocchi with short ribs. My only complaint--we can't go back again tonight. Excellent service and food in an enchanting atmosphere. The staff is exceptionally attentive. There's a sultry and dimly-lit dining room. It feels like you're walking into a rustic castle. But there are many modern elements that will surprise you. Some of the table tops and bar upstairs are made concrete with fig or olive leaves imprinted on them. The menu is impressive and there are some more creative dishes to choose from along with tradition Italian options. They serve seasonal dishes based on what is fresh locally. Go here for romantic, candlelit meals with finer options. Their upstairs tapas bar is very alluring and we can't wait to try it. We ordered: mussels, beet salad, carbonara and some mushroom pasta dish. I loved my goat cheese and golden beet salad. So delicious. My husband raved about his mussels and the carbonara. My mushroom, truffle pasta was very satisfying, but I'll eat a lighter option next time. It was too good to not eat, but very heavy. It came with a poached egg on top and it was quite decadent. Everything was favorable and perfectly seasoned. They make their pasta in house. It was so delicious. They even gave me a cute, free dessert for my birthday. I could choose from 4 tall shot glasses with diverse cakes, creams and mousses. I chose brownie and chocolate mousse. It was delightful. Went back two weeks later for tapas, was less impressed. Valentine's Day dinner 8:15; my wife did the wine tasting, then the server poured my glass and never filled my wife's glass. I requested butter for the bread as i don't care for olive oil, the butter was ice cold and tasteless. Not like Presidents or Echire butters. I ordered the bone in rib eye cooked medium rare. it was served between medium and well done. The calamari was excellent. The serve was un attentive. We try to patronize York restaurants, but Lancaster has so much more to offer. Back to Belvedere and or Josephines or Prime 401. York needs a lot of help in the restaurant arena. read more

No one at the front desk for over 5 minutes 3 tables that came in after us got bread we had to request it Was to share the salad had to use the bread plate because they dropped off the salads and left, when we tried to say something the waiter was off and gone. Out of fettuccine noodles so the dish that was wanted was not available, my dinner was the veal it was thin dry no kind of sauce or gravy, but the salad on top was delicious. I teased about taking it none to use a frisbee for my dog the waiter asked if I wanted to take it home I told him no veterinary bills were too expensive. Came to this place on a random Wednesday. Our sever was bad. Took him a long time to even see us for drinks. Also took him a very long time to get our orders. I think he only saw us 3 - 4 times all night. Not a big deal but it was annoying. Our appetizer, the buratta, was not very good. It was just sort of hard to eat and not a lot of crackers for two of us. Definitely not worth the money. However, our entrees were very very good. The place redeemed itself with the entree. I got the chicken gemelli and my date got the bucatini with meatballs. Both were delicious. Would definitely go back but order a different appetizer and hopefully get a different server. read more
