This was a very different thing than I expected. I'm giving it 5 stars for what it is (rather than…read morewhat I was expecting). 1) Their wine is all from Northern California. If you're thinking you'll be trying PA wines, that is not the case. If you're wanting a change from PA wines, this is a great opportunity! 2) This is a wine tasting place in a strip mall. From the outside it's extremely unassuming... but it's well labeled, so you can be confident you're in the right place. The inside looks as you'd like: spacious, clean, room to relax. As I was sitting inside, casually doing a tasting, I completely forgot we were in a strip mall. Well-done! An added bonus of the location: there are a LOT of good food choices nearby! The prices. Yowza! I did like some of the wines, but not enough to pay for the bottle (~$40). But I enjoyed a tasting ($10 for 4 tastings) and also ordered an extra glass of wine. They have 2 fixed tasting menus to choose from. I asked to switch out one of the wines for a different one, and that wasn't a problem at all. The customer service was nice. The woman was friendly and attentive, and not obtrusive or pushy. She was there when I wanted her, but was also content to let me sit, relax, and enjoy the wine. I love the ambience. There are a lot of tables and chairs, placed nicely around so you can enjoy your own space or have a nice drink with friends without being on top of each other. A wine bar of sorts. It is nicely decorated - feels warm and welcoming.

Really, this place is just weird. We've been here 4 times now, all with local flavor deals. The…read moreambiance is nice. It's in a strip mall, but is quite large and nice inside with artwork and wine themed displays. It just seems like they are incredibly overwhelmed when we come in. I don't know if they need more staff or what. I'm going to focus more on the most recent visit. I called to make reservations (you are supposed to) and the woman who was working seemed shocked that I wanted to make same day reservations. However, she agreed. We went in and there was some sort of loud group in one of the rooms. At first she seemed very attentive to us. However, the amount of wine poured for the tastings this time was so small and that was shocking. When you get the local flavor deal, apparently you are supposed to get bigger pours (this is what she ended up telling us and what we've been told before) You also get goat cheese, crackers, etc. which are quite nice. Also, really, their wine isn't great. It's more for the experience it took us this many times to really realize it. Anyways, after the first second tasting, our server vanished for about 20ish minutes. She finally came back to give us our 3rd tasting (you get 4) and that was it for at least another 20ish minutes. All in all we spent about an hour and a half and that was because of all the wait times. Another couple came in and sat at the bar who didn't have the deal; it was obvious they were worth the attention more than us local flavor people. I really advise them to stop doing this deal. They get overwhelmed easily and I ended up feeling like I was hounding them to serve us. I wanted a glass of wine (an actual glass at the end) and my wife had to go up to the woman to ask for one for me. It was over 13.00. Not worth it... I'd rather go get a nice cocktail some place for that price. Inevitably, The local flavor deal is not even that great of a deal, particularly when you feel like you are being put on the back burner in favor of other customers. We won't be going back.

So I wanted to check it out and then I read that they have a bar in the house open to the public. The house is very cool looking from the outside. It's lit up pretty nice and there's a parking lot half a block away. When you walk in you notice it is a huge old school house like hundreds of years old. And there's a little bar set up in a corner. After you get your drink, you can find a seat somewhere in the house and enjoy your drink. There's also a little board games, a fireplace , and a piano if you choose to play it. I had a great time at this mansion. I think we had about three drinks so I got a nice little buzz on. Also, the bartender was very nice, I do not remember her name but I told her I would be writing a review and she got really happy with that. She also told me a spooky ghost story from one of the rooms in the house. I won't spoil it but it was a good story. I would definitely return to this house for a drink and possibly to stay for the weekend because it is also a bed and breakfast. Also they do a murder mystery weekend there but I did not experience that.

The murder mystery itself was the highlight, the storyline was engaging, and the actors were clearly well-trained in improv and very kind. Murder Mystery: 8/10 The room was fairly standard, what you'd expect in an old-timey house. No TV or modern extras, but there were plenty of charging outlets, which was appreciated. Room: 7/10 The food during the stay was incredibly disappointing. Most of it felt like reheated microwave meals. Breakfast included eggs, bacon (very thin, broken pieces), cubed potatoes that were oddly watery, ham slices, stale danishes, cereal cups, and a parfait option that had run out by our 9am time slot. Dinner was similar in quality. I chose the cheese ravioli, but despite being second in line, it was cold. The same watery potatoes from breakfast were served again, along with green beans. The only highlight was the coffee, which was good. Food: 2/10 Unfortunately, the parking situation is very poor. There are only 5-6 spots directly outside and a few more up the hill behind the carriage house. I was dropped off at check-in and informed staff that my boyfriend would be arriving late. I was assured there would be parking available and that staff would be present 24/7 to assist him. However, I woke up to a call from him saying he couldn't find parking. I went downstairs to get help, but no staff could be found. Not wanting to disturb other guests, I eventually gave up, and he had to park on the street in the neighborhood on top of the hill overnight. At breakfast, we were briefly told about additional parking behind the carriage house, but there was no apology or acknowledgment of the issue from the night before, nor any attempt to make it right. Parking: 1/10 The staff overall seemed inexperienced and, at times, unprofessional. While I empathize with younger staff members, there were several uncomfortable moments--such as hearing an employee joke about "killing" another staff member over a small mistake, and staff walking away mid-conversation while we were trying to ask follow-up questions. Staff: 4/10 Overall, there were some enjoyable elements, especially the murder mystery, but the experience didn't quite match the price point. With a few key improvements, this could be a much more worthwhile stay.

They stay true to their name with their decor. They were coffin shaped shelves, gothic/satanic themed wallpaper. It's all very well done. Very unique! One of the staff members came over to tell us that their beer and spirits are all from PA. This was music to our ears! We ordered a local IPA. We shared the Brussels Caesar salad. It had crispy brussels sprouts and arugula. Topped homemade crouton. Dusted with Parmesan. It was delicious! Loved this spot! Will go back the next time we're in town!

Coffin Bar is one of the more distinctive brunch spots in Lancaster, and it works better in…read moredaylight than I expected. The vibe leans goth, with a definite metal/punk edge rather than a tightly curated "theme bar" look. It's not as uniformly designed as the name might suggest, but it is interesting and cohesive enough to feel intentional. During brunch, the space is well-lit, and they keep the heavy metal/thrash/punk soundtrack going at a very low volume, exactly the right choice. It supports the aesthetic without turning brunch into a performance. The food is the reason to come. The menu is built around the seven deadly sins (Lust, Gluttony, Wrath, etc.), and everything we tried was outstanding. Between the two of us we had Lust and Gluttony, and both were excellent, high quality, well-executed, and clearly made with care. Service was solid: efficient, reasonably quick, and professional. Not overly chatty, but attentive enough that you don't feel ignored. Drinks were fine. The mimosa and Bloody Mary were exactly what you'd expect: competent and enjoyable, nothing gimmicky. Logistics are also manageable for a downtown spot. Parking exists in the area, including garages nearby, and it's a comfortable walk if you're already in the city center. Overall: a fun, slightly offbeat atmosphere paired with genuinely great brunch food. If you like a darker aesthetic but still want a bright, relaxed daytime meal, Coffin Bar is an easy recommendation.
